Whoops, spring is here and the days are longer and I am compelled to wander outside in the sunshine!
Belatedly for @severusish‘s Snaint Patrick’s Day March 12th Prompt: The Greenhouses
Lily thought the carnivorous clover were absolutely fascinating and she was beginning to formulate a plot to smuggle one home for the holidays. Cokeworth flowerbeds could use a little excitement!
Severus, for his part, appreciated that the carnivorous clover flowers were vital for Felix felicis, but he wasn’t so sure about the Devil’s Snare (only used as an ingredient for a few of the scarier love potions).  It kept trying to braid his hair.

Oh my gosh this is stunning!
Thank you for this lovely contribution to Snaint Patrick’s Day!
This is absolutely lovely.
Love the colors, Severus’s expression, the light, the detail — and the four leaf clovers of course ;).
Wonderful! And it fits the prompt perfectly 🤍💚🤍😌✨🍀

Hi Folks! 🍀
Did I actually draw something new...? It seems so ahah.
Happy St Partick's Day!🍀
I came across @severusish #snaintpatricksday tag and the prompt "Felix Felicis" (which ks the one for today, March 17th) inspired me. I know I didn't take part in any other part of the challenge, but I hope it can be considered my only contribution. ♡
I immediately thought to draw young Severus, because I obviously wanted green on my picture. Green is my favorite color, but I feel more comfortable blending it with yellow when I don't want to make something too aquatic and blueish. I had more trouble with which style I should use. At first, I wanted to make an illustration that somehow looked like the one I did last december with Severus and Lily picking flowers in the woods.
Obviously, it didn't turn exactly the way I intended. I used ink anyway, what I don't do systematically. As I'm just done coloring it, I don't know how to feel about the result just yet. Lol. Only time will tell.
I know there are a lot of parts I didn't get correctly tho. I wasn't using references for the position so...
I hope you'll like it despite its many flaws! 🍀
Why is Severus brewing Felix Felicis anyway? Does he intend to undertake some especially challenging business? (I hope it has nothing to do with Dark stuff...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ps: I made a sketch for the prompt "Ridikkulus". I didn't developp it by lack of time but maybe I'll do something out of it. ;) I didn't combine the two prompts this time, I initially wanted but it would have been too messy.

Love this as a new headcanon. And love the interpretation of the prompt! Thank you! 💚🤍✨🍀
Snaint Patrick’s Day March 11: To Be a Slytherin
@snaintpatricksday Yeah, this one’s not particularly happy either, but hopefully you headcanon their relationship as getting better. (Of course, that headcanon has its own angst [like most of Severus’ life].)
Severus meets Lucius Malfoy.
Severus was awkwardly perched on the edge of his chair, across from a tall Slytherin with long blond hair and a silver prefect’s badge. The young man lounged gracefully in his seat and smiled at Severus, who responded with a glower and hands clenched tightly in his lap.
“So you’ve a talent for potions,” the prefect said.
Severus seemed to be speaking through gritted teeth. “How many points, sir?”
The prefect held up a hand. “Now, now. I told you that was negotiable, didn’t I?”
Severus’ eyes flickered over him assessingly. “Not saying I’ll do it, but… What d'you want, then?”
There was a weary sigh. “Always so hostile. It must make fitting in so difficult for you.” A sharp glance. “Not that it was ever going to be easy for you.”
“What. Do. You. Want?”
The prefect leaned forward. “Why, to help you, of course. Isn’t that my duty as your prefect?” He smiled. “And if, as I help you, a few potions find their way my way, well, that would be convenient, wouldn’t it?”
Severus looked down and opened his hands, deliberately stretching his fingers. It looked like it took a lot of effort. “I don’t know what you mean.”
The prefect shook his head. “You’re getting eaten alive here, and we both know it,” he said bluntly, and Severus’ head snapped up. The prefect held up a hand to stop him from speaking. “If you’re doing this kind of advanced potions work at your age-” he held up a bottle “-then you might be useful to me. But only if you survive.”
Severus leaned back slightly. “I’m surviving.”
The prefect rolled his eyes. “Not in the way most of us think of it. You need help. I’m willing to accept a payment you can afford. You’re in Slytherin, you can’t be stupid enough to refuse a deal like that.”
Severus still looked wary. “What exactly are we talking here?”
“Lessons,” the blond said instantly. “I’ll rid you of those atrocious speech habits, train you how to move properly, teach you the Latin and French you lack… Basically, get you ready for polite society.” He looked at Severus and gave a theatrical shudder. “Instead of looking like something the cat dragged in. In return, you’ll brew for me. I’ll provide the ingredients, you create the masterpieces I need. Is that acceptable?”
Severus studied his face carefully. “Nothin else?”
The young man closed his eyes. “First lesson. Doubt everyone, of course, but for Merlin’s sake don’t say it outright. Not to someone with more power than you have. Think, you idiot! I could turn you in to Slughorn for illicit brewing at any moment. I could take points and leave it at that. I’m offering an ongoing relationship with benefits to both of us instead of merely demanding that you brew for me in return for my silence. What can you possibly gain by insulting me by suggesting to my face that you think I’m lying?”
Severus shrugged and considered for a long moment. Finally he nodded jerkily. “All right. I’m in.”
“Good,” the young man answered. “I really can’t have Slytherin House being associated with a complete fool. Now. Your first assignment.”

Love love love.
Snaint Patrick’s Day March 12: The Greenhouses
@snaintpatricksday Still not happy, but what can you do?
CW: smoking, reference to canonical character death
The fourth time she woke up, Pomona decided to give up. Her Hufflepuffs wouldn’t need her for the next few hours; the tea she’d given them would keep them asleep for the rest of the night, even the ones who’d been most upset by Cedric Diggory’s death. It was too bad it couldn’t do the same for her.
She headed out into the gardens. “A bit of pruning is just what I need,” she said aloud as she unlocked Greenhouse 5.
The air that wafted out smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. She opened her mouth, but stopped as she saw the dark shadow move in the corner.
He looked startlingly like the boy he’d been the first time she’d found him there, skulking as if he were still a student she could assign detention instead of a colleague. He was hunched over again, hair half-hiding his face, looking too small for his robes. The litter of cigarette butts around his feet attested to how long he’d been there.
She slid on her gloves. “Nasty habit,” she commented casually, as she always had. “I thought you’d given it up.” She hasn’t found him there for years.
“When I want your opinion-” he began, but was interrupted by hacking coughs.
Eyeing the way he doubled over, one arm wrapped around his ribs, she wondered if it would be any use to tell him to go see Poppy. But he would never take advice.
Instead, she levitated two dancing ladies over to him. He could use the extra-rich air they gave off, and it might not set his back up.
He glared but said nothing, and, satisfied, she turned to her pruning. The smell of cut leaves mingled with the smoke in a way that was almost soothing. At least she wasn’t alone.

Excellent use of the prompt — and a little angst adds spice to life! Love this. The last three sentences are so emotional.
🍀🤍🍀✨😌
Snaint Patrick’s Day March 8: Green with Envy / Jealousy
@snaintpatricksday I knew I couldn’t keep up the happy for long 😂
Severus looked across the Transfiguration classroom at Lily and told himself firmly that he was NOT jealous. How could he be jealous of someone being in Gryffindor? Lily hadn’t even wanted to go there!
But as he watched her surrounded by friends, girls who smiled at her and saved her a seat and laughed at her accent without any mockery or bite, his stomach twisted in a way he knew too well.
He stroked the green notebook she had given him on his last birthday. He was in Slytherin, he reminded himself. Just where he had always wanted to be.

Snaint-Patricks-Day Day 7: The colour green
Rating: General
Ship: None
Character: Severus Snape
Author’s note: Yeah it’s late, don’t worry I know how to read a calendar. I was busy with Uni (I still have to write that paper and I only got 4 weeks left to complete it and I actually want to be done in two and a half) but I had this in my mind for a week now so I desperately wanted to write.
Green. Severus had always had a difficult relationship with that colour. In his years as a Hogwarts student it had represented safety. The only place in the world where he truly felt safe was after all decked out in that colour. As he graduated he began to loath it. It was ever present at Deatheater revels and in the houses of his pureblood friends and brothers in crime. And so he began associating it with the evil wrongdoings he and his fellow Deatheaters were committing. After the first war the difficult relationship with the colour prevailed as it filled him with shame over the wrongful choices he had made. His opinion on the colour only changed when he woke from his coma after the final battle of the second war. In this new world, Green came to symbolise stability. And as he saw a new generation of Slytherins, one free of the prejudices of their predecessors, it even began to symbolise hope.

Amazing as always. @guljerry
February 28: Boots with buckles / Formal wear AND March 1: Four-leaf clover / shamrock
@snaintpatricksday @severusish
Narcissa said nothing about the crisscross scars on Severus’ back as he stood in front of her, mostly nude, and for that he was grateful. Instead she stewed in silent rage that a father would dare to put such horrible looking marks upon the skin of his child. She briefly considered offering Severus an expensive scar ointment she kept in her potions cupboard, but surely he could have brewed himself a potion if he had want to remove the scars. He was probably too proud for such a thing, Narcissa thought. She was careful to mind the scars as she fit the corset, in shiny red brocade, around his too-thin waist. She would call for tea after this and make sure Dobby included extra biscuits of Severus’s favorite variety- the buttery Irish shortbread biscuits shaped like shamrocks.
“Don’t slouch, lamb,” Narcissa said, instructing Severus to straighten his spine. He did so with a little crackle and sigh. “Don’t sigh. You’ll have to mind  your posture. If you want to stop being treated like a Cokeworth street urchin then you’ll have to stop acting like one. We’ve nearly gotten your speech fixed, and thank Merlin your table manners have made drastic improvement. But when the day comes that you stop walking around with that stoop in your shoulders I will be thoroughly surprised. The corset should help, though.”
“I’m not acting like anything,” Severus muttered.
“Exactly,” said Narcissa, “you’ll need to start acting like something if you wish to be something. Now, no sass from you.”
Severus snorted and she smiled at the back of his neck where his hair- freshly washed with Narcissa’s own hair concoction- parted at the nape. Of course there would always be sass from him, that was just Severus and both of them knew that was even more unlikely to change than his hunching and skulking about like a twitchy arachnid.
“I’m going to tighten the strings now,” she said.
Severus nodded.
He focused on the feel of the satiny brocade against his cool, clammy skin, and when she drew the strings tight he liked the way the bones of the corset bit into his.
“Merlin, if your waist wasn’t tiny enough before it surely is now,” she said, “Dobby?” she called and the elf popped into existence nearby.
“What is Mistress Malfoy be wanting, please?” Dobby asked, bowing so deeply his nose scraped the polished floor.
“Tea, Dobby,” said Narcissa, “extra shamrocks, dear.”
“Right away, Mistress,” he nodded towards Severus, “Master Snape,” and then popped out of sight again.
Narcissa tugged the corset strings just a bit tighter then tied them off.
When she was finished with that she picked out a pair of her boots with buckles and tall heels and handed those over to Severus after he’d dressed in a pair of Lucius’ fine black robes. They hung on his thin frame but with a twitch of her wand they adjusted themselves to fit him better. A tailor would be needed for the best fit but for now Narcissa’s magical alteration would have to do.
Severus sat down on the fainting couch and carefully did the buckles on the boots then stood.
“You’re taller than me now,” Narcissa said, “good. You’ll be a bit more imposing that way.”
“I may be short but I’m perfectly capable of looming without a pair of three inch heels to help me,” Severus said, not quite trusting how wobbly his ankles felt in them.
“I said nothing about looming,” Narcissa said, “are you a wizard, or a gargoyle?”
“Perhaps both,” Severus said.
Narcissa tutted at his self-deprecation and Dobby popped back with their tea.
Lucius would be returning come evening to take Severus with him to a very important meeting, but until then he and Narcissa would enjoy their tea, and their gossip, and Severus would enjoy the secret boost of femininity he felt with that corset drawn tightly around him.

For @severusish‘s Snaint Patrick’s Day March 1 Prompt: Four-leaf clover
They were cheating cheaters who cheated.  Nothing else, in Petunia’s opinion, could explain how they kept finding lucky four-leaf clovers over and over.  If Lily were an animal, she’d be a cheetah since she was always trying to pull a fast one!
“Hey, Tuney!”  Lily was gleeful, “I found a seven-leaf clover!”
“You didn’t either!”  Petunia snapped, “You made it do that with your stupid cheating tricks!”
“It isn’t cheating,” Severus’ voice was obnoxiously pedantic, “We’re magic, Tuna, we can make our own luck!”
“Look,” Lily added, as the clover in her hand manifested another leaf, “Now it’s a twelve-leaf clover!  That’s three-times more luck for me!”

The Shamrock pub
Severus Snape was stood at his lab desk in his office at the Max Planck Institute for Magical Research in Munich. It was a nice office with large windows and high ceilings, as was typical in this part of town. He was looking out into the unusually sunny March afternoon when someone knocked at his door.
“Come in.” He shouted
It was Michael, one of his German co-workers.
“Hi Severus, a couple of us are thinking about going out for drinks to celebrate the first day of our new colleague up in Charms research and we wanted to ask if you would maybe like to join us?”
“I don’t know, got a lot to do still. Is it okay if I join later?”
“Yeah sure, that’s totally alright. We’ll be at the Shamrock Irish pub, in Gisela Street that’s not far from here. It’s actually just down the road on the right. Okay I’ll leave you to your work then, maybe see you later?”
“Hmm.”
He spent the remainder of his day working on his latest invention and when the sun started to go down, he got ready to leave. Finding the Irish pub wasn’t difficult at all, and he arrived in front of an unassuming light blue house in the typical Munich style rather quickly. He went inside and followed down a flight of stairs to the actual barroom, a room with low ceilings and brown brick walls as well as some wood panelling. The ceiling and bar were decorated with little shamrock paperchains and the tables were decked with green tablecloths, probably because Saint Patrick’s Day was fast approaching. The room was already packed with people who were enjoying their drinks. Most people were crowded in the further back where a ping-pong table and a darts board were located. Severus looked around trying to spot his colleagues and found Michael waving at him from a corner table on the left. He walked up there quickly while starting to shed himself of his outer wear.
“Severus how nice of you to join us.” Michael smiled at him, “May I introduce you to Hermione our now research fellow in the Charms department.”
A young woman, who had previously been turned away from him turned her head around and Severus was shocked to discover non other than Hermione Granger looking up at him.
“I’m afraid an introduction won’t be necessary, Michael, Miss Granger and I already know each other.”
“Oh right of course, I sometimes forget you used to work at Hogwarts, Severus.”
“So, you’re working in our Charms department now Miss Granger?” Severus said while sitting down at the table.
“Please call me Hermione, sir.”
“Only if you call me Severus.”
“Done. And yes, I’m researching the long-term effects charms have on objects that have been under the influence of them. And I’m thinking about extending that study onto humans once I’ve made some further progress. And you, Severus, what are you researching.”
“I’m focussing on healing potions at the moment, but I have been doing miscellaneous research projects since my arrival here”
“Oh, how long have you been here exactly?”
“About four years, moved here in 1999.”
“Oh, I hadn’t realised you have been gone from Britain for so long.”
“Yeah, didn’t want to make a big fuss about it.”
They kept talking and drinking until very late in the evening. Severus really enjoyed Hermione’s company and they ended up ignoring their colleagues for most of the evening. When they got up to leave Snape approached Hermione.
“Hey, umm would you like me to walk you home? It’s quite dark already and I wouldn’t feel comfortable knowing that you’re out there alone.”
“Umm yeah sure. Do you mind if we walk trough the English Garden? I live right at the edge on the other side, and it would make for a good shortcut.”
“Oh yeah sure.”
They made their way down the street until they reached the edge of the park area where he let Hermione take the lead. While they walked Severus kept staring at Hermione the light moonlight making him realise how beautiful she had become over the years. They kept talking while they were walking and it wasn’t until they crossed one of the bridges crossing one of the little channels that flowed through the park that Hermione turned to him with quite the serious look in her face.
“Okay, umm I have a confession to make to you and I hope you won’t be mad. The reason I chose to come to Munich was you, I wanted to be near you again.”
Severus looked at her with a look of surprise and asked “Why?”
“Because I’ve fallen in love with you.”
Severus kept staring at her.
“Oh, I’ve gone and cocked everything up now, haven’t I? We were having fun as colleagues and maybe friends and now I’ve scared you.” She looked at him with despair in her eyes.
“You haven’t scared me Hermione, just surprised me really. I liked tonight and if I’m being honest, I’ve noticed you have changed. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I love you, but I surely find you attractive and who knows, maybe if we spent more time together, I could come to love you.”
“Yeah maybe. Listen, would it be totally weird if I kissed you right now?” “No, no go ahead.”
And with that Hermione planted her lips on his. It wasn’t a perfect kiss, but it was still nice. They continued standing on the small bridge for some time until they eventually continued their way to her house.
THE END
Author's note: I apologise because I realise now that the prompt word appears exactly twice in the whole text and that the whole thing has very little to do with Saint-Patrick's Day but yeah here we are. This was inspired by my parents' first meeting, though it plays out a little differently after the pub. The Max Planck Institute is a real Institution with several institutes all over Germany and we have a lot of them in Munich. But the position of the Institute in the story was actually inspired by my University. I also know I'm late but my excuse for that is, that I really doubted myself about this yesterday.

Snaint Patrick’s Day 3: Serendipity / A Lucky Break
@snaintpatricksday Look, it’s not sad! :D
This is possibly the prologue to an epistolary AU I might write someday, but on its own I think it answers the prompt pretty well. Severus meets Fleamont Potter, who recognizes his potions genius and offers him a job. This is complicated, on all sides, by Snape’s Worst Memory happening between him accepting the summer position and him actually starting. (1400 words, so it’s behind a cut.)

Snaint Patrick’s Day 1: Boots with Buckles
CW: Cognitive distortions in the face of depression and chronic illness/disability
@snaintpatricksday, I think I spoiled the mood a bit here. Thanks for letting me participate anyway!
This is a “Post Deathly Hallows, Snape Lives with lasting physical effects from Nagini’s poison” vignette. I was aiming for a classic drabble  - exactly 100 words - but ended up with a double drabble - 200 words. Close enough.
