Just a couple of take aways from these here interwebs that have annoyed me lately.
If you can’t criticise Israel without being antisemetic, maybe your issues aren’t with Israel, and maybe you don’t give af of what’s actually happening in Palestine.
Boycotting Disney, Starbucks, McDonalds etc aren’t gonna stop a war. Y’all are daft.
Posting “I stand with” online is not activism. I can’t believe we still have to remind people of this.
If you need your fav celebrity to denounce something that’s happening politically, around the world etc, y’all are daft. Can we normalise getting celebrities to shut the fuck up about issues they don’t understand?
Hollywood is not on the left. They have never been on the left. If you think they are you have not been paying attention.
If your solution to end a war is to dismantle any nation, you’re an idiot. That’s not a solution and it doesn’t create peace. Crack open a history book ffs.
As always, every country uses propaganda tactics of one kind or another to keep their citizens in check. Let’s not attack anyone for not knowing what their country has been doing.
Don’t tell people to do their own research. Unless they know how to vet sources their research will still be biased and be based on Googles SEO and paid promotions - not on facts.
Just because someone sounds smart doesn’t mean they know what they’re talking about. I mean, can we normalise teaching critical thinking in schools
Lastly, no you probably aren’t neurodivergent no matter what ppl are diagnosing you with. Conversely being neurodivergent is not an excuse for being a dick

If today has taught me anything is that people know nothing about the British Monarchy, the role of the Monarchy in the Commonwealth and basic decency.

This is a gentle reminder that Supergirl has 2 showrunners. One the much maligned Jessica Queller who is responsible for everything from Mon-El existing to the pandemic at this point. The other Rob Rovner.
Some of you may not have heard of him. But he’s real and equally responsible for decisions made.
Ain’t it interesting how the woman is constantly held responsible for all the things people don’t like… interesting. Curious. Predictable even.

That moment when you realise you dread a show coming back, not because you hate the show (although... lbr it hasn’t been great) but because you cannot stand many of the “fans”

Let’s talk about queer rep and Supergirl
Kara/Supergirl - the entire first season was her coming out story. It directly and deliberately paralleled a queer coming out making it especially uncomfortable and egregious when Cat tried to force her to reveal herself - and later when she was punished for not coming out by someone who was meant to be a friend.
Say it wil me - no one deserves or has a right to your identity unless you want them too.
Alex: season 2 was her coming out. Woman is queer af. Why this is forgotten is beyond me. She continued to be queer when she wasn’t in a relationship, and continues to be when she isn’t kissing her girlfriend
Kelly: also queer af. The colour of her skin doesn’t change this, but has changed how people talk about the character and Azie who plays her.
Nia: Queer af. Openly and unapologetically trans. Acknowledged in her true identity even by the powers she inherited.
Brainy: coded queer af. He is coded as asexual, someone who wants to be in a relationship but doesn’t necessarily like the touching.
Maggie - queer af
Characters who are not queer.
J’onn
Winn
James
Cat
Andrea
William
Mon-El
Kara
Lena
Lucy
It’s disingenuous to suggest there isn’t any queer rep on the show, or that there is queerbaiting because your fav canon straight character isn’t queer in canon.
Attacking the writers, producers and actors by accusing them/the show of queerbaiting or homophobia is hyperbolic, blantenly incorrect and ignores the actual queer characters on the show.
Bonus observation: attacking the poc actors and writers, in addition to only attacking the female showrunner is noted. It speaks volumes.

Part of a writers assistants job is to take notes on these subjects and file them away for easy access for both new, and current writers. A lot of the minutia is hard to remember. Watching the series only helps with tone, not those particular details.
Of course many writers never access these notes because of... reasons I guess... and it means that we get some inconsistencies.
Sometimes the inconsistencies are by design too, as in they are doing a soft reset to make things more believable or to service the character or story better.
As for watching the show and noting storyline’s unfinished. You can do that, but there are often real production reasons why something are not wrapped up. Or - not every story needs a complete conclusion.
Tl;dr - the notes exist. They are painstakingly taken in every writers room. Writers assistants deserve props.
question for writers of tv shows -
i need someone to answer this question
do tv show writing teams that get hired post s1 of a show not do research of the show they get hired onto?
characters both from source material (in needed) and the previous seasons.
little continuities that should be remembered.
watch episodes to get how characters interact with one another.
plots and subplots currently going.
because after watching so many bad tv shows it honestly feels like they don’t - and i get that they have busy lives and shit but that’s your job so it feels like it’s important to do that kind of stuff?
if i ever got hired to do that kind of thing i feel like i would end up watching everything i didn’t write and writing down every storyline that wasn’t finished - as well as little things that needed to be remembered.

I have sat on posting to my fandom blog since last week because, frankly, I’d like to be positive— and there is nothing positive to be said regarding the way anti-black racism runs rampant in this fan space.
If your response to black actors sharing their pain this week is to find reasons to justify them receiving death threats, you are racist. And you are racist in the same way Amy Cooper is racist, because you are cashing in on the fact that you know interacting with white women can be a death sentence for black men, and has been for two centuries. You know this, and yet you actively police the behavior of a black actor who has played the love interest to white actresses. You play the same game as the police. You dig through the black man’s past and find reasons to excuse your verbal abuse. You ignore the fact that EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO NOT FEAR DEATH for existing in public space and say, “Well, you did these #problematic things, so maybe you deserve it a little bit.”
And you’ve done this to every. man of color. on the show.
So save your performative angry reblogging and tweeting about how you want to tear down the police force, because you yourselves police everyone around you in the whitest of ways: you alienate fans of color by denying there is any implicit racism in what you do and assume moral authority even as you dox people, harass actors’ families, throw racial slurs, make body-shaming comments, and tell black men they deserve to die for the crime of being tired of your shit.
For a show about hope, help, and compassion, it’s very telling that fans of the whitest Luthor seem to have none for anybody but themselves.

Just a reminder to those who live outside the US; we are not immune. Our societies have profited from oppressing/genocide of POC, from oppressing/genocide of our indigenous communities.
We have the ability to discuss racism in our home countries. We should be having this discussion. Just because we devoure more US media than our own does not abdicate is of the responsibility at home.
And if you haven’t heard about the oppression in your home country, do some research. It’s there, I promise you.
This is not a localised US problem. Don’t let the media, governments or education system fool you.

A quick FYI on conventions, if a guest cancels they are not paid. Do not believe the money hungry paparazzi/autograph hounds who are upset that they aren’t getting what they want from an actor.
Do not feed them attention or give them money to feed themselves either.
The reason actors cancel close to the event is because there are attempts to get them to attend. You know how sometimes you have to juggle work meetings, or social events, and you try till the last minute and realise something has gotta give?
This is why a “professional commitments pending” clause. Otherwise actors would never book an event.
You’re also not entitled to see them at one, and they are not obligated to attend
If anyone thinks Melissa is the most canceled guest in the world I know you’ve only attended or know about few conventions

What are your thoughts on what's going on in the fandom in regards to the SC claiming queerbaiting and some members of the cast speaking up against it. The different levels of vehemence against the behavior from David, Staz, Azie, and Nicole.
I got three versions of this question, so the short answer is:
This whole fake protest thing is garbage. I have watched some of these same people carry on for an entire decade and they always ship characters with the exact same faces and personalities, so let’s stop pretending this is about the uniqueness of any media involved.
What’s particularly galling here is SC fans are pulling the same bullshit they did in Season 2. S2 saw James “allies” coming out of the woodwork because Mon-El stood in the way of their wlw OTP, but the moment James was a love interest once again, the fake concern about racism disappeared. And this is happening again, only this time we have fake claims that people care about “lack of rep” for Alex, Kelly, and Nia.
Newsflash: you don’t care about representation if you’re whining about a lack of it when there isn’t a lack of it. You can’t claim queerbaiting when multiple queer characters are active, meaningful participants in the show. You’re not being cheated when the show explicitly TOLD YOU the character you so desperately want to get off fantasizing about is not ever going to hook up with the woman you’ve chosen.
Like. That’s the stupidest part. The cast and showrunners actively said this ship would never happen. Remember that???? SC stans lost their fucking minds and started trashing the show left and right after SDCC in 2017, and now are carrying on like they’ve been deceived for three years.
Tumblr media
tl;dr the cast are 100% within their rights to call this shit out, since the only thing that shuts bullies down is active pushback.

This is just a reminder that unless you watch a show by legal means, have a Nelson’s box and live in the US, boycotting a US TV show will have zero affect on its ratings.
But go off I guess.

An additional regularly scheduled reminder, some of us like the boys on the show. Please stop speaking for me and telling me, or anyone else, what we do/should like.
William is one of the boys I like.
So is James.

This is your regularly scheduled reminder that not everyone watches a show for shipping.
It’s not personal if the ship you have created and enjoyed isn’t canon.
It’s also not personal is one part of a canon ship decides to leave a show. Kidnapping is still illegal, as is slave labour.

Of course J.K Rowling is not a terf, at Christmas she’s gonna announce that Dean was a transgendered man all along, the story told us so multiple times.
She thought is was so obvious that she didn’t feel the need to tell us explicitly.
This will continue her tradition of post-publication diversity.

Dear Voters
How about we stop telling people we need to vote against someone and actually elevate choices that are good and electable.
Stop blaming the people who cannot stand either option for voting independent, instead question why the parties for the people are actually ignoring the people
The least worst choice is not actually a viable solution, as we have seen time and again
Extremism on both sides of the debate is not helpful
And ultimately we have been trading in our freedoms from security for so long it’s now second nature
Hard boarders and a rise in nationalism has been happening for decades, but has become far more prevalent in the world post 9/11
If people are genuinely shocked that conservative and right leaning parties are winning you are clearly not listening to your neighbours.
This isn’t all the fault of misinformation, since that exists on both sides, it’s far more rooted than that and it is representative of our countries values
Admit that and maybe we can work towards a change
