The alley they had ducked into wasn't exactly the most eye-pleasing of places, but Gwen figured it would give them a good chance to catch their breath. She bent over slightly, hands on her knees, and panted in air for a few seconds before becoming suddenly aware that Miles wasn't beside her anymore.

Her brow furrowed, Gwen looked up and was startled to find him dangling from the wall in front of her, upside-down, his face mere inches from her own.

He flashed her a cheeky grin, a shaft of sunlight highlighting his skin.

"Hey."

Gwen stared at Miles for a long moment, head tilted and eyebrows slightly raised, and then before she could stop herself she was kissing him.

An oomph of surprise whooshed from his lungs, and for what felt like eternity he was completely still against her. Just as she began to worry that maybe she had misread the adoration in his eyes, he shifted slightly, web gripped in both hands, back braced against the wall.

Then, miraculously, he was kissing her back, and her hands were on either side of his face, and they were the only two people on earth, alone in a dingy New York alley.

And it was all so stupid, really, but her heart was racing, and her palms were sweaty, and she could tell he felt just as nervous as she did, and it was clear that none of their combined breathlessness was from webslinging across the city.

Gwen realized a little too late that catching her breath might not be so easy now.
