i do think berryheart is gonna turn against splashtail. it's odd to me that none of the main characters even consider that she's been fervently against clan swapping but is suddenly completely willing to defect to the very clan she was so pressed about tigerstar investing his energy in in the first place and that she could be duping him, especially since sunbeam otherwise seemed to want to believe her mother was salvageable in some way. not to mention the book seems to think she Has A Point and is on some level deserving of the reader's sympathy lol it just would be strange to me to kill her off as a willing ally to splashtail. i think froststar is feasible, it's suspect that they've held off on giving her a suffix for this long. it's not gonna happen but i so so so desperately want curlfeather to give her a special dark forest life. i also feel like there's a chance of the prologue being from curlfeather's perspective so fingers crossed that her inner monologue isn't just "i am so evil and selfish and i hate my dumbass children" and only having affection for frostpaw right before she bites the dust or something (tangential but i noticed that when talking about frostpaw curlfeather never like, directly insults her intelligence or mocks her for being naive and gullible. she even snaps at splashtail because he called frostpaw stupid. good show of restraint considering how badly they hit you over the head with "look at how vain and eeeevil she is" in the wind prologue. don't fuck it up!) i think it would be nice if nightheart fucked off to starclan but i feel like there's a few ways the monkey's paw could curl in that regard (discourse over how unfairly cruel the fandom was to him, repeat of what happened with bristleroot where people decide nightsun was actually compelling and well written over extremely mediocre prose about their relationship [sorry for being mean but i must speak my truth], the brunt of sparkpelt's character being reduced to mourning her son and wishing she could have been a better mother, etc etc) that i would not enjoy

i feel like all three of the prominent main female characters in mapleshade's vengeance were dealt a shitty hand writing wise in their own way. obviously mapleshade goes without saying because i don't have to explain why "woman's kids die and then she starts ~hearing voices~ and becomes a murderer obsessed with revenge, also this is the backstory for the literal only major female villain in the series at this point in time" isn't great. reedshine is given no interiority and must immediately forgive her dipshit husband and take his side for the sake of substantiating the reader's sympathy for mapleshade (tangential but worth pointing out- if mapleshade was truly meant to be an unreliable narrator then there would be no need to do this!). frecklewish's whole thing is her uncontrolled grief over her dead brother making her impulsively overemotional and violent in the face of perceived betrayal, contrasted with the Poised and Reasonable men in authority around her, with recent official commentary postulating that she reacted to the death of the children she treated poorly with spiteful indifference as a result. like it's just all sooooo bad

in hindsight ashfur's memory in particular being destroyed would probably not bode well as a writing choice but man i just really wished there was more to the supposedly extraordinary and emotionally bereaving circumstances of bristlefrost's death other than not getting to see the afterlife :pensive:

look at this hypomelanistic neotenic barred tiger salamander.. i've been trying to find any pictures of other leuctistic neotenic tiger salamander specimens to compare with leucistic axolotls and this is the closest i could find (the picture of the "axolotl" on the dollar i posted is in fact a seemingly hypo/leuctistic tiger salamander larvae according to source, but i'd like to see adult neotenic individuals). i've noticed tiger salamanders always look so wide eyed compared to axolotls lol
