Regarding ‘antis’ and NoTPs

In light of the recent voltron drama, I am making this post from a sideblog as I do not wish to be involved in the discourse. That being said, I feel like there is still some misinformation going around as to what does and does not constitute as an 'anti’

First let’s talk shipping. It’s existed as long as fandom has. It’s a very personal phenomenon in which the specifics are dictated by a person’s interests, personality, past experiences, values, traumas or lack thereof, and comfort levels. With that in mind, it is impossible to take one’s personal opinions of shipping and apply it to another person.

Shipping is personal. It is extremely personal. And I can’t stress that enough. It’s a topic that is completely, unarguably subjective, with no right or wrong answers regarding what is and isn’t ok. Because it is so personal, we cannot apply our own personal experiences, traumas and comfort levels, and make assumptions on complete strangers based purely on the media they consume (child porn involving videos and photographs are exempt from this. I can’t believe I need to say that). It’s dehumanizing. It’s presumptuous. And it’s downright selfish.

Although larger mainstream content can influence reality, shipping and small scale projects just do not have that same power. Shipping harms no one, and if it does, then blocks and filters are not being used properly. The internet is a wild place. We know how it works. We know how to utilize tools to block content that triggers us. Content creators are good about tagging. They’ve done their part to help us avoid triggering content, whether we choose to complete the process is up to us.

• You can hate a type of content.

• You can hate the people who consume that content.

• You can block and refuse to interact with those people.

• You can think they’re immoral, disgusting, and wrong for liking what they do.

• You can think no one, under any circumstances, should create or consume that kind of content.

The things above do not make you an 'anti’ and this is why I am asking you to drop the label.

An anti is not just someone against certain types of content. The only thing that makes you an anti, is being compliant, encouraging or participating in harassment, stalking, antagonizing, doxxing, and abuse of fandom goers whose fandom opinions differ from your own.

If you do not think this type of behavior is acceptable, then you are not an anti. And because of the unsavory, abusive, and dangerous stunts committed by people with this label, I emplore you to ask yourself if calling yourself an anti is worth it.

Because it is not a label to be worn with pride.

anyway misogyny is bad (even if it's against cishet women!), sexuality purity is a myth, and young girls of all sexualities deserve a safe way to explore their sexuality even if you think it's icky (also lesbians NEED to stop talking over gay men idk when this started but y'all need to stay in your lane. mlm and wlw solidarity doesn't work when you keep taking control of discussions not meant for you.) So I basically tried to compile some information about the term Fujoshi, how it’s used, things in regard to BL, etc. It’s not EVERYTHING, but enough to point people into the right direction, because anti-fujoshi discourse is a load of bullshit in all reality. I hope people read this and go on to read more with the sources I provided; which by the way, special thanks to @freedom-of-fanfic and @rottenboysclub for being incredible valuable sources of information!  This is mostly done, with some formatting corrections to be made (I hate Tumblr sometimes), but if you have any questions, suggestions, etc. I’ll do my best to respond to everyone.

To Shippers:

If you get harassment in AO3 comments, REPORT THE COMMENTS. AO3 take harassment very seriously, as well as will protect your right to post your work, and anti-shippers have to learn actions have consequences. It seems AO3 operates on a three-strikes rule, so - after the first warning - the antis should learn their lesson and no longer harass other people. Report them.
