Going to class this morning, I see many of my classmates (who are all white) are surprised that Trump became the president. They’re all sharing their theories on how it happened this way, and what have you. However, I noticed something about their commentary between each other. They aren’t terrified. They aren’t wondering what to do next. They aren’t all somber. They aren’t sad. They’re attitudes are more like, “Oh wow, Trump actually won. That shit stain lmao. At least we’ll have some more hilarious Trump memes.” I’m just realizing that, yes they may actually not like Trump. They may despise Trump, but they’re all still LAUGHING. They are laughing about this. This situation is so appalling that I don’t even feel like I will genuinely smile today at all. Like, I honestly feel like my way of life as I know it will be changing soon. I am more than terrified. I am hysterical. I literally feel less safe now. And they were still LAUGHING….like this is just another dank meme of 2016. No. This is real life. Some people may have committed suicide today from fear alone, and you’re all laughing. It shows how affected white people are by this. For most of them, today is probably just a slightly more terrible day than usual. For POC (and the LGBT community), this day marks the beginning of the apocalypse.
