A sister! Stella wanted to know who Silas’ sister was. It was interesting to see how people behaved around those that they cared about. And a fiance. That was the word for people that were going to get married but hadn’t quite gotten to the actual ceremony yet. Stella thought human weddings sounded exciting. “It sounds like you have good reasons to live here! As for us, uh, I guess different reasons for everyone. I haven’t exactly delved deep into the why, but probably job stuff. I only just moved here after doing my own thing for some years after high school. Didn’t have much going for me either, and I missed family too much. Plus I wanted to see the odd little mermaid town. But I’ll be okay up here. It’s still nice to talk to you.” Falling was still pretty daunting.
Tiktok… Stella glanced to one side thoughtfully, trying to remember if clock noises were a type of storytelling that she was familiar with. Nope. She did not know anything about that. “Yeah, sure, whatever you want!” Pumpkin spiced lattes were also a very new concept, but she liked how the phrase sounded. Pumpkin spiced lattes. Autumn wouldn’t be for some months more, right? Oh, she couldn’t wait at all. “If there were no pumpkin spiced lattes, which would you pick? But yes, I like summer best. It’s the season that feels the most freeing. All of the seasons have their interesting nuances, though.” Stella was much more interested in the rainy season than anything, but she wasn’t sure if Port Vale had one of those.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silas raised an eyebrow at her response and regarded her curiously. He didn’t know what it was about her, but he gave her a weird vibe. It wasn’t exactly bad, per se, but she did kind of strike him as rather odd. Then again, humans always made him wary. They always seemed deceptively sweet, especially in this town. “Yeah... I guess I do. I didn’t really think so at first what with us, or Siobhan rather, jumping the gun and moving to a fishing town with a mermaid fetish just because some hot dude swept her off her feet--which, mind you, I did warn her that maybe they were moving to fast, but does she listen? Of course not,” he said with a huff. “What can you do? They’re hopelessly in love or whatever. She’s lucky I’m beginning to warm up to this place,” he said with a grin.
“Well, I’m a fan of a good ol’ caramel macchiato, for sure,” he said, taking out his phone and pulling up the app. “So just be yourself, completely natural. My fans with love you,” he said, running his fingers through his hair and angling the phone along his good side while still keeping her in frame. “Hey guys! It’s ya boi. I’m here with a new resident in town. Her name is Stella, and she’s just chilling on top of this metal climbing dome thing. Pretty cool, huh? So Stella, what do you like about town so far?”

Walter was enjoying that his brain was feeling into familiar waters, and that was being so completely focused on a story that he didn’t think about much else.  As he entered the café, he had one name on his brain, and that was Silas Waters.  This name had popped up several times in the past day or so in his perusing of the news and the various locals in his search for residents in town who believed in mermaids.  He found a man of the same description he was given at a table close to the back. He ordered a coffee and croissant as to not give himself away that this man was the entire reason he came into the shop, even though he definitely was.  He found a table next to Mr. Waters, took a bite of his croissant, and turned on his casual voice.  “Excuse me,” Walter attempted to get his attention.  “Are you Silas Waters, by any chance?  I’m in town to research for an article I’m writing, and I was wondering if you could help me by answering a few questions?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was nothing like warm waffles and hot coffee in the morning. He didn’t really indulge in a lot of sweet things, but once in a while he’d treat himself to something like this. It was his day off, and he planned to stay here a while, catch up on the latest celebrity news and maybe use the cafe’s wifi to play a few games on his phone before he decided what he wanted to do that day. He had just opened up Genshin Impact when a stranger began to talk to him.
Silas wasn’t really in over his head about the fact that he had a lot of followers on Tiktok. If anything, one of the reasons why he had so many followers might be due to the fact that he looked really similar to a Kpop idol, and 2pm’s fanbase was insane when it came to things like that. It was rare for strangers to approach him in town for any other reason than to ask him about the seals or his sister, so he was a little skeptical when this man approached him out of the blue wanting to ask him a few questions. “Uh, who wants to know? What are you writing about anyway?” He asked, giving the man a once-over.

Ronan hadn’t told Seungho anything, just to show up at the restaurant and look for table eight. Thinking this was an errand in some way he hadn’t dressed up, clad in his steel toes, grease stained jeans, and flannel his stomach dropped as he realized what he was walking into as the door closed behind him. His palms immediately became sweaty once he locked eyes with Tree Boy.
Tumblr media
This was terrible. He should leave. That would be so incredibly rude and he felt his feet move before he could think about it too hard. Crossing the room, he wrung his hands together as he sat. It wasn’t the boys fault but this was about to be a miserable night. “I’m sorry.” He wasn’t even sure what he was apologizing for yet, perhaps everything pre-emptively.
Tumblr media
Maybe starting the date off with an apology was unorthodox, but Silas couldn’t help but snort rather ungracefully at how remorseful the man looked. “Sorry, I’m not trying to be rude or anything. You have nothing to apologise for. I just find it funny that you’re my date, what with me getting caught in your trap and you feeling me up before our first date,” he said with chuckle, standing up to greet him, gesturing to the seat across from him before he pulled it out.
“How are you? I don’t think I ever asked for your name. I’m Silas. It’s nice to meet you on better terms,” he said with a smile as he sat back down, leaning on the table to give him a once over. He definitely cleaned up really well.

It almost sounded like Silas thought she didn’t know what adoption was or how it all worked, the way he was explaining it, or maybe Steph was just misreading his tone, she wasn’t sure. But it felt both strange and overly cheerful and clinical at the same time. “Ahh, yeah, I know what that’s like. Though I guess Renzie and me were cousins even before he was adopted. And honestly, most of the time I forget that we aren’t siblings by blood, he is just my idiot brother and I love him. But that’s nice, that you two get along so well then. How long has it been since you guys became siblings?”
The fan question did surprise Steph, though, on a whole different level. “A fan of– I wasn’t really aware that she had fans? Sorry, I don’t really follow who makes it online and who doesn’t in here. –Well, more like nobody really makes it online from around here, at least not anyone I know of so far, so it wasn’t something I was keeping my attention on. But good for her, I guess.” How would it feel, to be a selkie and have all eyes on her? While she was trying to lay low? How did it work for Silas, since he was one of them too. Had to be.
Tumblr media
“But yeah, sorry, I wasn”t really thinking about her having fans or anything liket hat. And I obviously know she is not single, unless you have some further development about her and Xander that I haven’t heard of yet? I was just hoping I could get some insight on what kind of things she likes? Colors, food, music, all these kind of things. You see, they have time to plan the wedding now, and I was hoping to offer them the Café for some part of it, especially if it will be held during the summer.” An understandable question, she figured. Start small and build up to other things. And hope that Silas could either be lulled into a false sense of security, or just among all the random questions, he wouldn’t expect her to try to dig and slips up.
Tumblr media
He raised an eyebrow at her seemingly never-ending set of questions. For someone who was probably obsessed with trying to prove that the merfolk were real, she seemed to not know a lot of the facts. It was possible she was trying to catch him in a lie, which was highly unlikely so long as he was concerned. Like Syclla had said, she didn’t seem all that threatening, which was odd, considering she seemed to make the sirens and mermaids unnerved. Then again, Silas was more concerned about being poked and prodded for science, while they were probably terrified they’d turn into sea foam and cease to exist.
He chuckled and walked over to her. “I’m kidding, I’m the adopted one. They plucked me out of an orphanage in South Korea,” he said, wondering if she was actually being serious right now. “I’m 28 now, so we’ve been siblings for about 25 years, now,” he explained, not entirely sure where she was going with this.
“Feel free to follow us on our handles! Mine’s itsyaboisilas and Vonnie’s is siobhanana,” he said with a grin. It was always nice to get more followers when he could. He found that the more engaging he was, the more likely he could get sponsorship deals.  “Well, in that order, I’d say yellow, avocado toast, jazz, and she hates the color orange. She says it makes her hair look washed out,” he said, shrugging as he carried on sweeping. “She really likes artsy things, very particular about floral arrangements and colors. I think she mentioned she wanted her first dance to be mellow but a little bit upbeat because slow waltzes sound depressing--her words, not mine,” he said with a snort.

Silas didn’t really know what he was expecting when Siobhan convinced him to sign up for the town’s Blind Dating event, but he figured he didn’t really have anything to lose. He had a few contenders around town that he would have liked to go on a date with, but knowing the mechanics of the event, he knew he didn’t really have a say on the matter. He had gotten to the restaurant 30 minutes early, circling the block around for another 30 minutes prior just to release some of his nervous energy. He had changed his outfit 5 times and contemplated standing up his date, but he worried how that might make him look.  He felt as though a lot of eyes were already on him at any given moment, so he really didn’t want to make a big deal out of this.
He wasn’t even sure if they took his sexuality into account, and that helped to calm his nerves a bit. After all, he found it a lot easier to talk to the female population than any of the male humans. Male humans always just seemed to unnerve him for some reason. He checked the time on his phone for the 10th time and wondered if he should start a game of Pokemon Unite when he saw the Squirrel man enter the restaurant, looking around the room probably looking for his assigned table number. An uneasy feeling fell at the pit of his stomach, and he was praying to whatever was up there that he wouldn’t be going on a date with the man that saw him fall on his ass.
No such luck in the stars, apparently.

Steph couldn’t tell if he really couldn’t hear her or if he was pretending, though she couldn’t really see how pretending would help him in this case. If she wanted to talk to him, it’s not like he could keep pretending to not hear her, especially not when he already establish a certain line of communication with her beforehand. Even if it was just a few sentences.
Tumblr media
So she went along with it considering that he was telling the truth. “Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize the seals could get so loud. Yeah, I was just asking you if you were Siobhan’s brother? Cousin? I am not really fully in the know about what kind of family connection you guys have, I just know I heard something around town. I am just asking– well, I was hoping you could help me with something related to her? It’s nothing bad I promise, just a small bit of help.”
Tumblr media
He smiled at her and walked towards her. All the alarms in his head were going off, but he tried his best to keep his cool. She must be on to something if she made the trek all the way to the seal enclosure just to talk to him. “We’re siblings, yeah. It’s hard to tell since we don’t really look alike, huh? Don’t worry about it. She was adopted from a sad little village from Bulgaria, so we’re not really blood related, but she’s pretty cool. Are you a fan of hers? She seems to have a lot of those these days. She appears on a few of my Tiktoks and suddenly everyone asking is she’s single it’s insane,” he said, rolling his eyes. “If you’re looking for her, I think she’s at the Town Hall, right now.”

Silas liked to come out to the park and watch all the dogs that came to visit, trying his best to discourage himself from walking over to the shelter right now and adopting one of his own. He was pretty good at taking care of seals, and dogs were kind of like the seals of the sea, right? But he wasn’t sure if Scylla was fine with him getting a dog. Granted, she probably didn’t give two shits about him since he was just a pawn in her games. Siobhan was easily the sea witch’s favorite, but he honestly wouldn’t have minded being set up with a cute single bachelor too, if it would mean she could get a better handle of the town.
He had been rather engrossed in his thoughts, tapping away at his phone, when a lovely dog nuzzled his nose up his pant leg, leaving a generous patch of slobber in his wake. He blinked at the sign on his handle and recognized the dog. He had seen him around with the local journalist, and having learned on Tiktok that when a guide dog approached you, it was always best to check with his handler if anything was amiss. He looked around and spotted her on the bench with her phone. He approached her slowly, trying not to spook her. “Hey, I just wanted to check if you were alright? Your dog walked up to me, and I wasn’t sure if he was just playing or he wanted me to check on you,” he said sheepishly.

briellefuentes:
Starter: Open.
Location: North Star Lighthouse.
Since coming to Port Vale, Brielle found herself constantly immersed in her mission, surrounded by other people. After a month and a half had passed, she began to crave some semblance of personal space. She needed time to herself to recharge and clear her mind. This hadn’t meant that she’d lost sight of her responsibility. It was still just as important as ever, but she felt she deserved some time separate from all that where it wasn’t the one thing at the forefront of her brain.
Through a bit of research, she concluded that the best place to meditate was at the North Star Lighthouse. It was her day off from the café and she’d woken up early to travel to the area, assuming that it wouldn’t be likely for many people to be there on a Friday morning. Her assumption had been correct. When she arrived, she noticed that there weren’t many people there at all, and the few people that were there were scattered and spread apart along the beach. This was perfect. It was exactly what she needed right now.
She unpacked the bag she’d brought with her, gingerly placing a large blanket on the ground beneath her feet and sitting cross-legged on it. She then cracked open the latest book she’d checked out from the library and listened to the comforting sound of waves crashing against the shore as she picked up where she’d left off in the chapter. A sigh of relief left her lips and she felt a sense of serenity, away from all the commotion, separate from her responsibilities just for a brief moment. If someone were to approach her now, she wouldn’t turn them away. But, if so, she could only hope that their presence wouldn’t disrupt her too much and they could keep the peaceful momentum going.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silas never really understood why his future brother-in-law liked to hole himself up at the lighthouse all alone, all day. He could never be alone with his own thoughts for too long, and he’d probably go mad if he didn’t at least have someone to talk to every now and then. He had heard from around town that Moray hadn’t been quite the same when his father had died, and he only seemed to drift away further from his brother when he suddenly came back home and brought a fiancee with him out of the blue. Of course, the selkie couldn’t blame him. There was nothing like having everything you’ve ever known change abruptly without a proper explanation.
If anything, Moray was just collateral damage in the grand scheme of things, but that didn’t mean Silas didn’t go out of his way to reach out to him. Sure, he gaslighted all his theories about the existence of merfolk at Port Vale for his own safety, but otherwise he tried his best to be a good friend on top of everything. They didn’t really make the most suitable pair, but if they were going to be future in-laws, they needed to figure out how to get along one way or another.
Conveniently, Scylla had told him to scope out the lighthouse and find out everything he could about it. He hadn’t been expecting to see a mermaid all the way out here, propped on a blanket and reading a book. She seemed to be entirely engrossed in what she was reading and didn’t notice as he walked towards her. Well, there wasn’t any harm in having his fun and getting his daily dose of pissing off a merfolk, today. “Fancy seeing you here! Did you come to see the ships sail over? Hey, I was wondering if you saw the lighthouse’s keeper, today. He’s a bit of a big guy, permanent scowl on his face, maybe a bit slouchy and out of place?” He asked, arm akimbo while regarding her with a bright smile.

how sign traits manifest, when energies are focused outward vs. inward
                                                   CANCER
outward: heart-on-sleeve type of people, extremely supportive, excellent maternal instincts- the “mom” at all the parties who takes care of too-drunk friends, always looking to help others, easily teary, communicative, kind, thoughtful and excellent gift givers
inward: creative, sensitive, spiritually and karmically mature, understanding of their need to feel things fully, meditative, lovers of quiet and alone time, always seeking understanding from other people and genuinely deep connections

Silas made bartending sound a lot more interesting than it was, like he didn’t just have to take some classes and get a bartending license. “You’re asking a lot of bartender questions,” he said with an amused laugh. “Why? Are you interested in becoming one? I could teach you how to make some drinks.” There wasn’t anyone here, so there wasn’t really any harm in allowing Silas behind the bar and playing around with some cocktails. It would make the time pass by at least. “Because I’ll let you in on a deep, dark secret,” he began dramatically, making a show of checking if anyone was there before leaning in closer and lowering his voice, “everything I learned was from bartending-school.com.” With a grin he returned to his original position and nodded. “Oh, yeah. There’s Sand in the Crack, Juicy Lucy, A Short Trip to Hell, to name a few.”
Theo’s grin faltered when he asked about his father, because the answer was no, and it was something he hated admitting to. It was his fault it was like that. His dad wasn’t innocent either, but Theo was the one who ran away and never bothered to call him. “Uh–not really, no,” he answered vaguely and decided to focus on the easier part of the question, the one that didn’t make his stomach clench uncomfortably. “They don’t, especially Victoria, so it was definitely a risk, but Port Vale can’t be the same, old town forever. If they want tourists then they need a reason to bring them here. Besides, I still went with the stupid mermaid them.”
The lack of family resemblance was one of the reasons the locals were confused by their family, but not the only ones. Theo didn’t think too hard about himself, he just figured one of the siblings was adopted, and now he knew for sure it was Silas. “She definitely wanted you if she went all the way to Korea to get you,” he agreed with a quiet laugh. “I’m an only child, so I’ve never had to deal with the competitive sibling thing.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’m not an alcoholic by any stretch of the imagination, I swear. I just see those Tiktok videos where bartenders do those cool tricks while knowing all these recipes from the top of their heads. It all looks pretty amazing to me,” he said with a laugh. He looked around the bar to see if anyone might have come in while they were talking before he locked eyes with Theo again. “Really? I’d love to learn how,” he said, a little too excited for his liking as he leaned in closer to hear the secret before he leaned back and rolled his eyes at Theo’s answer. “Seriously? It’s that easy? How much did you have to pay for classes?” He asked with a dubious smirk. “Those don’t sound as obscure as sex on the beach,” he said with a laugh.
Silas pressed his lips together, wondering if he hit a sore topic. He wanted to press on further, but he figured he should just follow the locals and ask around instead. The grapevine almost always had something to say about everyone, anyway. “Oh, so you’re a risk taker then?” He said, raising an eyebrow and smiling at him teasingly. “I didn’t think anyone but the Blackmores wanted to stand up against Victoria. She seems like a force to be reckoned with,” he mused. “Well, if it makes you feel better, I quite like the ambience here. Less dingy.”
“Don’t get me wrong, I love Vonnie. She’s not the brightest bulb in the bunch, but she definitely means well. She supports me in everything I do, even my weird obsessions of the month. We’re pretty much partners in crime against the world, you know?” He said. The same script just had multiple variations to them, but they all pretty much had the same thought. In truth, he couldn’t care less about Siobhan and Scylla. “It’s a blessing and curse, really. Do you have other family in town though?”

her eyes turned cold and her face suddenly got serious. “call me sweetie one more and i will make you regret it,” lumi scolded without thinking. as soon as the words had left her mouth, she regretted it since she considered it a win for him. “you really do have a remarkable talent for always finding a way to piss me off, silas. i would be impressed if it weren’t so annoying.” lumi did not mince her words even if she probably should, after all she was forced to spend time with him regularly because of their jobs. she did not comment on his name meaning wood, not really caring to discuss the origin of her being snow. he managed to distract her from her anger by talking about the book in front of her. “yes, but it is the depressing truth,” lumi sighed and crossed her arms. “so i still have to read it.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silas chuckled and sat down beside her. “Oh, she’s feisty,” he teased as he bent down and picked up the fallen book. Silas - 1, Lumi - 0. Not that he was keeping score or anything that would be childish. “Thank you. I like to think it’s a special skill of mine,” he said with laugh as he picked up one of the books in front of her and flipped through it. “Do you though? I mean, global warming is a bit inevitable what with big factories polluting the environment with toxic fumes and pinning it on small businesses or the consumers for not doing their small part to make a difference. It’s a bit of a lost cause, don’t you think?” He asked, voicing his thoughts out loud without thinking. “It’s better to think about the things you can change,” he said.

Seungho’s hands retreated as he realized he was essentially patting down a complete stranger, regardless of his intentions. But the boy was moving and not acting hurt, so that was enough for him. Not that he would be much help either way as he wasn’t a doctor, just knowledgeable enough from having to fend for himself on various boats.
Tumblr media
The mention of a squirrel had him tilting his head, “Ruda? A red squirrel, very argumentative?” Not that Seungho could understand her when she chittered away at him, but he could tell she had very strong opinions on seemingly everything. There was a few weeks last summer where she would pelt him with acorns whenever she saw him because he had changed his curtains from off-white to blue and she didn’t approve of the colour. “Give her pancake and mozzarella cheese. Not cheddar or she will hate you.”
Tumblr media
He blinked at the stranger, wondering if he had hit his head to hard. He looked around him at the assortment of tin cans, stainless lids and plastic string. It seemed he had fallen into a trap that probably wasn’t for him, but he couldn’t be too sure. He could feel his head pound as his heart was beating a mile a minute, more from the shock of it all, than anything. “Sorry? Ruda?” He asked. It sounded like this stranger was the one with a concussion. “I--I’ll keep that in mind, thanks. That squirrel has been chucking shit on my rain gutter for ages. It’s been keeping me up at night. What were you doing, anyway? I’m sorry I fell on whatever this is.”

vera-lynns:
Silas was a tough task master. At least when it came to all this exercise. While she enjoyed his company, she would be glad when the trial membership ended and he could no longer drag her here. It would be her turn to drag him around somewhere, and wherever that somewhere ended up it wouldn’t involved any exercise. Maybe it would involved eating lots of sugar treats. Or pasta. Perhaps both.
“Thank you. If you wanna go to the pool by yourself, you can. Maybe you can convince one of the others to go with you. I’ll be abstaining from that.” Pools just seemed gross to Vera, and not just because they were full of chemicals. It was a still, contained body of water. There were no currents. And nothing lived in it, because it was full of chemicals. “Like, love, there’s really not that much different between the two.
Vera closed her water, putting it into the provided holder on the treadmill. She attempted to turn it back up to the speed she had previous been running, but she must have hit the wrong button, because it went faster than she expected. She lost her balance, finding herself sprawled on the floor on her back. “Ow. That. That’s why I don’t like exercise.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Silas was probably not the best with handling money since he quite liked novelty items and subscriptions, never giving much thought to spending his credit card. If anything, he definitely need a financial advisor. It wasn’t like he was hard for money, of course. He knew that if he had any trouble, he could always call on Scylla, and he also had a stable job and some extra income from Tiktok anyway. But he was always surprised with how much money he had left in his bank account when he actually remembered to check it. The problem with him was that unless he sent monthly reminders to get his finances in order, out of sight was really out of mind to him.
“I don’t know, it’s kind of weird to go without you,” he admitted after a huff. He wasn’t very fond of doing things alone, but he wouldn’t force Vera to do something she didn’t want to. He was pushy, but not that pushy. “When it comes to us, I definitely have to agree,” he said with a laugh. At this point, Vera was practically family to him, more than Siobhan or Scylla ever would be.
His eyes widened as he pulled out the emergency tab on the treadmill to stop his machine abruptly when he heard the crash. He hopped off and ran to her side, still a little dizzy from the sudden stop in his momentum. “Holy shit, Ver, are you alright?”  He asked, as a few people started crowding around them. He looked up and searched for one of the trainers and waved them over. He chuckled, grateful that she was still conscious. “Don’t try to get up yet. We should check for a concussion or something.”

Location: Boat dock
Open to everyone
Lena had been painting at the boat dock just a few meters away from Shore’s Boat Repair when the wind began to pick up rather suddenly. The winter weather brought grey clouds and unpredictable winds, but she’d been glad for the small window of perfect weather to paint some boats. As the siren packed up her easel and art supplies, a gust of wind blew her small canvas halfway down the row of parked boats. She quickly ran up to it but as she got closer the wind blew it just out of her reach. Then just as she thought she’d reached it again; the wind blew it off the dock completely and into the waters below. “Damn it!” She exclaimed as she knelt down and watched all her hard work become warped from the water. The canvas floated for a moment and then slowly sunk to the bottom where the murky waters hid it from her view. It had been a waste of her entire morning to painstakingly paint the smallest details of the ropes on the fishing boats to the thicker ropes that docked them to the pier. “That’s just great! What terrible luck.” Lena cried out, her hands ran through her hair, frustrated at the wind that now decided to stand still.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was something about the docks that brought silas comfort. He didn’t remember much from his childhood, but he could recall the smell of the sea, the sound of the water crashing against the shore, and the collective sound of birds chirping and sea lions barking. Winter wasn’t really his favorite seasons, but there was a specific time in the year when the season shifted from autumn to winter that was almost magical, to him. He’d never really gotten to see the change of leaves until he arrived at Port Vale, but he learned quickly that it was one of his favorite things. He decided to take a walk that morning by the docks, and he was reminded yet again how nice it would be to adopt a dog and go on morning walks together. He had been closing his eyes and enjoying the breeze when he heard someone cuss loudly before a splash followed its wake. He squinted at the water, wondering what had fallen in before he looked around for the source of the commotion. “Are you alright?” He called over, walking over to her.

Amara was doing her best to focus on all the information Silas was giving her. It felt like a whole lot all at once to take in and a lot more work than she initially expected. Keeping consistent, being good and relatable? They were words that on the surface seemed like a simple plan but in the long run, was it actually something that was manageable? “That sounds like so much work though, and so stressful too. Maybe it’s easy for humans to be relatable to each other cause they all have similar experiences but, what kind of content can we put out there? Can’t really talk about being a seal and being turned into a human by a witch. I don’t think that experience is something humans can relate to.” She replied, not intentionally trying to break down his interest in becoming an influencer, but knowing that for herself at least, it seemed like a lot more work than it was worth.
“Whoa wait, two hundred? That’s a lot of people though! Why shouldn’t you be proud? That’s like if you were just walking down the street and suddenly a crowd of two hundred people were following behind you waiting to see what you do next, that’s impressive.” she exclaimed despite how casual he was about it. She started to open up her own account that she had just made and held the phone out to him. “Here, make it two hundred and one. Pull up your accounts on everything and I’ll follow you, that way I can see what you do and get a better understanding of what I’m supposed to do.”
His idea was a good one, clever and creative but unfortunately, not exactly something that will keep him safe. He was already making a name for himself as Siobhan’s brother and Amara wouldn’t be surprised if that helped his reputation already for the people in town. So doing anything that reckless all over the internet wouldn’t end well, but at least he knew that and simply held onto the idea for himself instead of impulse posting. “Is everything on Youtube? Dance moves, marshmallow recipes, what doesn’t this thing have?” she wondered allowed as she reached into the bag and grabbed a handful of marshmallows and shoved them into her mouth.
Silas explained the different moves he was doing and Amara tried her best to mimic the different motions he was showing her. She was pretty sure she was doing them wrong, a look of confusion on her face as she attempted them but she couldn’t help laughing in amusement. She may not know what she was doing but it was kind of fun to try. “Hold on, how are you doing that you did that way too fast! I’m not a dancer, I don’t know how my body is supposed to move like that. Don’t be such a show off!”

So long as Silas enjoyed something, and he was automatically good at it, he would spend a lot of his time learning everything he could about it. He had something called his monthly obsessions. It usually only took him about a month to lose interest in something before he moved on to the next thing he would work on. That was why social media was a staple hobby of his because there was always new trends, new things to learn and new people to meet. It was rarely ever stale and highly addicting. “Oh, you’ll be surprised. I do dubs, vlogs, dance videos and videos of the seals at work. The crowd favorite seems to be my dubs and the seal videos,” he said. He had a competitive spirit, so any time someone told him how hard something was, he loved to prove them wrong.
“Two hundred doesn’t really get me a lot of sponsorships or get me verified, so I still have a lot of work to do to provide better content,” he said with a shrug, smiling when she took out her phone and handed it to him excitedly. “I’m a bit more proud of my TikTok though because I’ve got fifty-six thousand followers on there. It’s kind of humbling how people like what I do, you know? My dubs and the seal videos sort of blew up after a few months, which was really cool,” he said, pulling up his accounts on her phone and following his accounts. “Here, I’ll follow you back too,” he said, taking out his phone from his pocket pulling up his socials.
He knew full well how evil humans could be when it came to someone different. A lot of followers came with a lot of haters as well, which he didn’t mind because it only meant that he was making a name for himself at least. He usually made harmless videos that didn’t dox him or reveal much of his personal life to the internet. He made sure to look up YouTube videos on how to keep himself safe which also included subscribing to a VPN service. “I think so. I mean if it isn’t, it’s probably on Google. The internet is a magical place,” he said with a grin, sitting next to her and popping a marshmallow in his mouth.
He laughed as he watched Amara try her best to mimic him. “Sorry, sorry. I used to dance on my hind flippers for the circus, so this isn’t much different. I must say, it’s a lot easier to dance on two legs though,” he said, slowing down his steps so she could catch up. “Hey, I’m not a show off. It’s not my fault I’m a natural dancer and you just suck,” he teased, pulling her into a side hug. “I’m kidding! I’m kidding! Come on, you’ll get it eventually.”
