Ok basically everyone gets that the books Hunter and Gus get into in the newest episode are an homage to star Trek but... Can I please talk about which characters they're specifically paying homage to? Because it fucking RULES.

Though the plot description they gave is more befitting to Voyager, the characters named and DEFINITELY referencing characters from Deep Space 9.

Gus is cosplaying as "Captain Avery." The captain of Deep Space 9 is Benjamin Sisko, who's played by Avery Brooks. Sisko was basically the first time a star Trek series featured a black man as their lead- the captain.

And Hunter? He's Cosplaying as "Engineering Chief O'Bailey." Sounds a lot like Engineering Chief O'Brien from DS9. A relatively average guy...

Who is CONSTANTLY being tormented, both emotionally and physically, by the writers. Like, never gets a break.
