I forgot to do my write-up for the War at Marineford Saga and Fishman Island Arc, but I'm already done with the Punk Hazard arc. I might just skip my write-ups for those arcs since I don't want to go back and re-read again. Especially since Marineford wrecks me every time.

One Piece Musings: Re-reading Sabaody Archipelago
I love Sabaody, both this arc and the return to Sabaody arc are one of my favorites. The locale is fantastical on the outside with a sinister inside. We get characters, exposition, cathartic action and a whiplash of tones between goofy and grimdark.
First off, the little beginning section with the Flying Fish Riders, the comedy here will never get old. The Duval face reveal is the best thing ever, I'm never not gonna laugh at this scene. We also get to know the Sunny a bit more with the Chicken Voyage and the super epic Gaon Cannon.
Moving on, another thing I like about this arc is how it opens us up to the wider world of piracy with the introduction of the Supernovas (soon to be the Worst Generation). I love them so much, even the ones I still don't know that much about. Speaking on future arcs, I love how Oda weaves them into the New World. Even when some of them don't get as much focus I like that they don't just disappear into a void, considering they are Luffy's rivals and, I guess, colleagues.
The Roger exposition by Rayleigh is also a great taster for the Roger flashbacks later on in the Wano arc. I especially like that we don't get a full flashback just Rayleigh telling his story. We also get introduced into the themes of classism and racism, which will both be touched more deeply in later arcs. This arc also has one of the best punch spreads against an entitled classist asshat that we have ever seen.
Luffy, Kidd and Law at the auction house was great, we get a glimpse of their devil fruits and how powerful they are against regular marines. I also loved we get another shot of Straw Hat Crew teamwork against PX-4. This arc also lets us know how unprepared the Straw Hats are for the New World, and the Supernovas that did engage with Kizaru and the Pacifistas weren't faring any better either. This ties well into the Thriller Bark arc when Moira was 'warning' them of the dangers of the New World. The Sabaody arc was the last arc that I read in tankoubon form (my library was not caught up at the time but: support your local libraries!) before switching to online and that ending with Kuma was horrific. The fact Luffy had to watch his crew disappear one by one in front of his eyes and he could do nothing at all T.T and because we had a family computer I couldn't actually catch up to One Piece as quickly and I was left in Straw Hat-less limbo for a while. Haha those were the days.
Tumblr media
This was the beginning of my Supernova/Worst Generation Trifecta. (I'm also partial to the fighting duo of Zolo and Killer but we'll get to that when I'm back in Wano)

One Piece Musings: Re-reading Thriller Bark
I got through this a lot faster than Water 7. If I did a tier list of this arc I'd place it somewhere in the middle. It's not a favorite but it's not that low either.
First off, I love the aesthetic of Thriller Bark. The Burton-esque thrill, the comedy beats, the fights and the introduction of Brook! It's all great. I love the eeriness in the introduction of Thriller Bark and the gothic architecture of it all. The zombie designs are kooky and very modern artistic Frankenstein.
When it comes to the fights my favorites are absolutely Usopp VS Perona and Straw Hats VS Oars. The other fights were good too but Usopp's fight is just peak comedy and character growth. I loved that it wasn't about strength but about mind games and bluffing. Also the body horror aspect when Perona was a specter was so creepy. We can't forget Perona's Enel face as well as the re-appearance of Sogeking. Anyway I like that this is the fight where we get Usopp's growth, especially considering the crew gets separated after Sabaody (which had no solo fights, just brawls and escaping). I think it was great as a reader to see Usopp dropping the Sogeking persona before the time skip, it shows his growth from Water 7 and is a great point in his journey to becoming a brave warrior of the sea.
Also I love a good spot of teamwork amongst the crew, it was the first time we got to see it too. Especially since it was all the crew together and not pair ups like in previous arcs. The first part of the fight without Luffy really gave everyone a chance to show their stuff. I liked seeing how everyone trusted each other and how each of them compliment and support each other, especially when they were saving each other and trying to get Oars' attention. Also that cutie Chopper scaling the giant beast to do a medical diagnosis was so good. When Luffy arrives and his Nightmare Luffy power-up runs out we can see how the crew helped prepare Oars for Luffy to land the decisive blow and it shows the crew being of one mind.
I think out of all the post-arc endings this one is my favorite. Because while it's happy and goofy just like the previous ones it's got that tinge of sadness and despair, especially since we get the Rumbar pirates' and Laboon backstory here instead of in the middle of the arc which was the usual fare. And who doesn't love Laboon? cutie as a baby but just as loveable when he's grown, the little scene with him and Crocus was really nice. The little reveal in Ace's vivre card gives that little sense of anxiety for a future plot point oof.

Look at these cuties welcoming Brook to the team :D

I'm getting that itch to read a sports manga... might do a short write-up series on that. I always get these random urges to read sports mangas for some reason. Maybe I'll try a baseball one since that's a sport that I haven't read about yet, I know my sister was pretty into Diamond no Ace but I kind of also just want to re-read Haikyu! lol

One Piece Musings: Re-reading Water 7
I thought I'd get through re-reading One Piece faster since it's my 4th (or is it 5th?) time reading it but I always get caught up enjoying the background art and other small details. Haha, I'm finally out of the Water 7 Saga and entering Thriller Bark.
Water 7 is always a roller coaster of emotions. I know this is a fan favorite saga and it's definitely one of mine as well. The mystery, suspense and drama of it all. As much as I loved the world politics my favorite part of the arc are the interpersonal relationships and politics within the crew. This arc was kind of a pivotal point for the crew dynamics as they were previously operating merely on friendship and possibly sincerity and good will. We get to see how they need respect via Usopp and Luffy and trust via Robin and crew.
Also, I'm a Frobin shipper but I only actually started shipping them during Thriller Bark because in Water 7 they were kind of paired together because of circumstances whereas Thriller Bark had them paired in a more natural way. In any case Water 7 is their 'How I Met Your Mother' story haha. I can just imagine Franky telling the tale of how he tried to escape with Robin using a fart.
I don't have much to say about this arc that hasn't been talked about in the fandom before but I just wanted to talk about how nice it was reading this arc again. On another note I've been reading this saga while also reading through @opbackgrounds to see if I missed any fun details, it's a good time.

My Fandom Journey: Manga
Yesterday I rambled about anime and today I'll be rambling about manga. How I got started what titles I've read and how I found what genres, authors and styles I liked. Again this is a broad topic so I'll get into more specific anime/manga fandoms later on.
So I started reading manga when I was maybe around 13-14, when I started high school (HS is 5 years in New Zealand). I found manga tankoubon in Borders (oof throwback). I'm not 100% certain about this but I think the first manga I picked up was either Death Note or Fruits Basket, and that was because I was familiar with the anime. So I read these manga series and realized that the original source material had way more info and subtlety compared to the animes. From there I would borrow manga from my local library in bulk (love libraries, I highly recommend).
I started with the manga that had animes that I watched. Obviously the library had a pretty limited stock at the time (it shared a bookshelf with western comics) but they had the mainstream titles. Obviously it wouldn't have a complete series so once I reached a certain point I would continue reading the manga online or wait until the library ordered the next volume. I think I only started reading online manga once I was 15ish and was a little more familiar with the internet.
My local library mostly had Tokyopop (another throwback), Madman Entertainment and Viz Media licensed titles. Eventually Kodansha would come around but initially we only had access to whatever titles Australia had access to (Madman Entertainment).
Again I ended up reading Shonen stuff first so, Bleach, Shaman King, Hunter X Hunter, Naruto (I still haven't actually finished Naruto...), Rave Master, Flame of Recca and One Piece. For Shojou titles I believe I started with Fushigi Yugi, Ceres Celestial Legend, Peach Girl, Vampire Knight (never finished this either), Nana and Honey and Clover.
The titles I listed were essentially my "starter" manga and I've read more than that at this point but when I look at the shojou manga that I read as a pre-teen and compare it to now it's very clear that my tastes have changed and I would not re-read a lot of the titles I read back then. Some examples of manga I would not re-read: Intant-teen: Just Add Nuts (This was hella weird, playing with age-gap relationships and I'm just not a fan of kids aging up in this way because their mind is still a kid!) and Absolute Boyfriend (I dunno, the android 2nd ML was kind of unique but I could not get into it). There was also that shojou about a dog that turned into a human and I am not about that life.
Moving on, this is getting kind of long. I've had a lot of phases with manga, I've read sports, romance, slice of life, supernatural, fantasy, martial arts, battle, food. I think the only genres I'm not that into are ecchi/harem, mecha and sci-fi (there are exceptions to this one). I might do separate posts on my favorite genres but I just wanted to do a little intro to my manga journey. If you've read my media consumption post you'll see what my current manga reads are.
I'll end things here, my next post will be my K-pop fandom journey so see you then.
Bye-bee~

My Fandom Journey: Anime
I thought I'd make a little series talking about my various fandoms and my journey in them. I'm starting with a broader topic of anime, getting into more specific titles at a later post. I'll do a manga one next but my initial introduction into Japanese media was anime so I'll start here. This is gonna be a long rambly post btw.
When I was in the Philippines at a young age (I wanna say around 5 or 6 years old), me and my siblings started watching Digimon Adventures first, we literally watched all the episodes up until Digimon Tamers. We did watch western cartoons as well, we were lucky enough to have Sky so we had Disney, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. One of the reasons I think I liked anime was because it wasn't as overly stylized as cartoons, human designs and characterizations weren't overly exaggerated like in Hey Arnold or Rugrats for example, not to say I didn't enjoy those cartoons because I totally did up to a certain age. Also because anime tended to have overarching storylines and arcs for the most part, compared to the episodic nature of early western cartoons, I found myself focusing more on the story and wanting to watch every episode. Honestly I remember being glued to the screen while watching Digimon and always made sure I watched every episode and if I missed one then I'd catch the re-run that they aired on the weekend (I remembered the exact airing schedule of this damn series when I was a child). Whereas when I missed an episode of Spongebob Squarepants or Courage the Cowardly Dog I'd be fine about it.
Most animes that were aimed at kids were licensed and aired on local channels like GMA and ABS-CBN and were majority dubbed in tagalog but there were a few channels that aired anime in english dub so that's how I watched anime most of the time. I am glad though that they kept the original Japanese openings and ending songs for the Tagalog dub. (I loved Hunter X Hunter's Ohayou Opening, it was seriously the best)
Majority of the imported anime to the Philippines were mostly shonen (as far as I was aware anyway) so the other animes we watched after school were Slamdunk, Medabots, Yu-gi-oh, Beyblade, Hunter X Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho, Flame of Recca and a few episodes of Rave Master and Case Closed/Detective Conan. Surprisingly we weren't that into Pokemon but we did watch majority of the early seasons (Can't remember which ones, but Brock and Misty were the entourage). I think we watched Zoids too but only a few epsiodes.
When we got a bit older but still children (I was around 9-11) we started watching animes that would be considered seinen such as Rurouni Kenshin, GetBackers, Saiyuki, Cowboy Bebop, Galaxy Angels, Ranma 1/2, and a mecha anime that for the life of me I cannot remember the title of (It might've been part of the Brave franchise??). I also occasionally watched You're Under Arrest and Lupin III. Anyway most of these were obviously more censored than the manga or original Japanese version but they were still definitely innapropriate for my age range. I still don't understand how we got away with watching Rurouni Kenshin as kids it was aired on a sky channel that wasn't aimed at kids so the violence wasn't that censored, I think it was the first subbed anime that I watched
There are also animes that I didn't really watch but I was aware of like Naruto, Dragon Ball (Sorry to the fans I never quite got into these two series), Outlaw Star, Ah My Goddess, Inuyasha, Baki the Grappler, Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura.
Side note there's also another anime that I can't remember the name of but I've been looking for it forever, It's an old sci-fi spaceship anime about a man going through a mid-life crisis and becomes isekai'd(?) into this spaceship where he plays the electric guitar to power the ship and fight. Does anyone know this anime???
After moving to New Zealand when I was 11 I got exposed to different genres outside the usual Shonen and Seinen I grew up on. My first shoujo anime was Ouran High School Host Club followed by Fruits Basket, which while they're not my favorites, they hold a special place in my heart. I do remember watching animes early morning on Sunday, I would wake up at like 6am to watch Megaman, Digimon Frontier and Tokyo Mew Mew (yeah... 4kids ver). After school they aired Yu-gi-oh GX, Shaman King,
How I watched Anime also changed from just seeing what was on TV, the internet was becoming more accessible in our family (we had dial-up at first) and there were also video rental stores as well as the usual ripped DVDs that we got from friends. There wasn't a lot of choices in rental stores but they always had a decent selection of anime films and that's how I got into Ghibli films, also I think I watched the Ghost in the Shell film and 10 Centimeters per Second. At this time I watched The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ao Hana, Hell Girl, xxxHolic, Mushishi, Death Note (early episodes), and Bleach (only until the end of Soul Soiety arc). You can kind of see from my selection here that I had a phase of mystery, supernatural anime.
I can't quite remember at around what point I transitioned to being manga only but once I came across the original source material of my favorite anime I stopped watching anime for the most part. There are notable exceptions, such as anime-only series like Psycho-pass and K, music related series like K-On! (I really wanted to hear the songs). Nowadays I'll read a manga or light novel (if translated) first then decide if it's worth it to watch the anime. I did that with Kuroko no Basket and Haikyuu! but I haven't done it recently. Basically if the anime has a manga as it's original source I'll choose that but if it's an original anime or a game-based, light novel based anime then I'll watch it.
This has been a loooong post. I'll do another one on my manga journey maybe tomorrow. This series essentially is just so I can word vomit about my fandoms because a lot of my friends don't share as many fandoms with me. If you've read until here then thanks for listening to me ramble.
Bye-bee~

Media I'm Currently Consuming
With my return to this tumblr which is focused on media reviews/fangirling I thought I'd write a post on what media I've been reading, watching and listening to lately.
In terms of comics and graphic novels, other than catching up on One Piece and Akatsuki no Yona, I've recently been pulled into the isekai and villainess genres which led me to Korean manhwas. I've read a lot recently and I'll probably post separate reviews on my favourite ones but my current reads are:
"Flirting with the Villain's Dad" by Dalseul
"Trash of the Count's Family" by PING
"Little Rabbit and the Big Bad Leopard" by Yasik and Mogin.
Concurrently to the mangas and manhwas I've also started reading light novels that I originally found the mangas/manhwas of first then transitioned to the light novels. For this I'm currently reading:
"By the Grace of the Gods" by Roy
"Housekeeping Mage from Another World" by You Fuguruma
"The Haunted Bookstore - Gateway to a Parallel Universe" by Shinobumaru
"Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill" by Ren Eguchi
In terms of TV shows... I'm behind on everything haha. I'll probably get around to the Marvel stuff but for now the only thing I've been watching is "Supernatural" which I'm restarting from the beginning (I stopped at season 11) and "Amazing Saturday" (Korean Variety Show)
No films because I haven't watched anything for the past few years... unless rewatching all off the MCU up until the end of Phase 4 counts.
For games, ever since the Nintendo 3ds store closed down I've been switching between replaying my old games like "Fire Emblem Fates" "Pokemon X" and "Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns" while also playing games I bought before the store closed like "Etrian Odyssey IV" and "Persona Q"
Since this is the first of this kind of post I'm making the format is kind of janky and I'm not sure how to end it but I just thought I'd share and maybe I'll make this a monthly series or something.

Back Again
Hmm, now how long is this sudden burst of blog posts gonna last this time?
Honestly a lot of stuff happened in my personal life so being on tumblr and blogging reviews fell by the wayside. Lately though I've been getting back into consuming my usual forms of media. So I started re-reading One Piece since I took a break from it after the end of Wano arc. I know it's a lot of chapters but I can get through it pretty quickly since I've already read it before. I'm already at Water 7 so once I reach where I've stopped I guess I'll continue from where I stopped reviewing (or at the end of the Wano arc)
I was also thinking about picking up another long manga to review, either as a blind read or a re-read. I'm thinking Gintama (which I only read like the first few arcs) or Jujutsu Kaisen. As for a K-survival show... I missed a lot of different shows so I might go back and watch/review those too.
Anyway, we'll see how this goes so watch this space.

Uni kept me busy so I didn't end up continuing my Street Woman Fighter reaction/analysis posts :(
In any case, semester is over for now so I'll probably continue soon. I have watched the whole show, I kept it playing in the background while working on assignments, but I'll have to re-watch because I don't remember much of my first impressions.

Street Woman Fighter Episode 1
Let's talk about the episode proper here. I'm just gonna go with what I thought while watching the episode.
I love how the "introductory" mission was a dance battle. The dancers got themselves warmed up for the show in a way that's more familiar to them since broadcast dancing is a little different compared to just straight up street dancing. It was savage having the dancers watch their group critiques in front of everyone, made things tense before anything even started.
Lee Jung is a cool dancer but I'm a little partial to Simeez because her dance was similar to my own personal dance style haha. Still watching that kind of hip-hop dance is definitely cool because it's something I can't do.
Gabee and Aiki was a fun battle. I do wish Gabee didn't take off her pants just because of how it disturbed her performance and lost her time. She was doing super well before that. I definitely love the humor in Aiki's dance, it doesn't come off as a comedic dance (like the ones on variety shows) because she's a good dancer. The re-match was right in Aiki's wheelhouse since she's also a Latin ballroom dancer but Gabee's ideas for the stage definitely overshadowed Aiki so I felt bad.
Yeri and Zsun was tense~! I love watching Yeri break, she's so cool, she definitely stands out being the only b-girl on the show so I'm curious how she'll do going forward with the show. Zsun is great as always. I know the audience were probably on the edge of their seats when they were both reacting to each other, especially when they were kicking and getting up close with each other. They're both experienced battle dancers so they know enough not to hurt each other. There were no big incidents in the first round of their battle because they were facing each other and Yeri wasn't hugely disturbing Zsun with big floor moves. The same can't be said with the rematch since they were both more focused on trying to get into the center to appeal to the judges. Damn Zsun was great though, that fall lead to a great booty moment.
Another intense battle followed with Zsun and Monika. I feel like Zsun was better in her previous round. I don't know if it's because I was overwhelmed by Monika's set but damn. Monika's body control was amazing. I was initially wondering what genre she'd go with since she can do so much but her song choice and movements were so good. I can't dance like that to save my life.
I love watching waacking so I was waiting for Lip J to step up or get called out. This was probably my favorite battle just because I love this dance genre. I've slowly been learning how to dance it but I'm not that good yet. Anyway you can tell that Peanut and Lip J have battled each other often because of how they reacted with each other in the battle especially during the rematch. I agree with Lip J winning though, her detail while dancing definitely made her dance look amazing and clean.
Anyway that's all for this episode I wanted to get more technical but I'm honestly not a super technical dancer so I'm kind of just going off of what I feel emotionally while watching. I'll get on to episode 2 later this week because I need to see my faves Honey J and Rihey duke it out.

Street Woman Fighter First Impressions
It's been a hot minute since I've done one of these. I'll probably do this for the whole show, which I haven't done for any of the survival shows I've been watching so far. I might do one for Girls Planet 999 but we'll see.
I'm not super familiar with South Korea's dance scene but I definitely recognize a fair amount of the dancers which was great for me, less names to try to remember lol. I'll do a quick first impression then do another post on the actual content of the episode.
La Chica seem fun, I definitely recognize them as Chungha's dancers and choreographers but I didn't really know any individual names other than Rian. They definitely have a more western/sexy feel to them with like a hint of trashiness (the good kind, if that makes sense lol).
YGX are dressed very YG. I follow YGX on insta so a lot of them are familiar and I remember Yeri from Dancing High so that was nice. They're definitely a young trendy team full of that YG swag. Also I didn't realize Lee Jung was part of Just Jerk, I knew the crew was mixed gender but I didn't recognize her.
Coca N Butter... haaa. So back in the day I was a big Purplow fan so I definitely know them but after the crew broke up I didn't really follow them on the internet as much but I knew that they made a new crew and that Zsun was doing some solo stuff. The vibe is just Girls hip-hop. They're the girl crush type for sure.
Hook, I only know Aiki to be honest. I loved her on World of Dance and I've seen her insta reels but I don't really know what kind of style the crew is going for other than hip-hop, maybe. I definitely feel that Aiki and her kids vibes because her students just seem super young but we'll see.
Holy Bang has my girl, Honey J. She's the initial reason I got into Purplow. I've loved watching her dance ever since I first saw her dancing with Jay Park then we got to see her during Hit the Stage and she even judged an episode of Dancing High. I'm just so into her. I feel a little bad because I don't remember her crew members names even though I know all their faces. It's mostly because I'm more of a fan of Honey J than I am of the crew itself.
Prowdmon again I only know their main players, Monika and Lip J. I'm more familiar with Lip J because I was in a phase and fell into a youtube rabbit hole of waacking videos. Monika definitely has like a cool mom or cool teacher vibe. The crew definitely has that we can do whatever genre vibe to them.
WayB is the one crew I know nothing about at all. Like sure I saw the articles about No:ze but that's about it. They're another young crew so I'm guessing they also have a trendy vibe but again, not super familiar with them.
WANT has one of my favourite 1million choreographers, Choi Hyojin. I love her, she's badass and sexy but she can do something soft emotional like contemporary dance as well. From what I know this crew was made for the show (correct me if I'm wrong). I recognize Emma and Moana, but I didn't know their names until I read their name tags on the show. Then there's Chaeyeon... Girl, I applaud your bravery. It's definitely different going from being an idol to focusing on just dancing and even though she's participated in a lot of survivals the atmosphere on this show is way different. I hope she grows a lot because I've been a fan since her Kpop star days.
Let's move on to the judges. What I found really funny was that the comments that were critical of the judge lineup were almost exactly the same as the comments for the World of Dance judges back when season 1 aired. People were essentially saying they need professional dancers as judges. The makeup of the judging panel is essentially the same as World of Dance as well, with Boa as the main superstar judge (Jennifer Lopez), Hwang Sang Hoon as the professional dancer judge (Derek Hough) and Taeyong as the artist with dance experience (Ne-yo). I don't mind this judge line-up, this is essentially a show for the public so if they focus the judging too much on dance technicalities the audience might not be as interested because not all of them are gonna be dancers or hardcore dance fans. I do wish they had a more structured judging criteria though, but that's my issue with all korean survival shows. I think Taeyong could've been replaced by a more experienced judge though. Taemin or Kai could've been good, or maybe Bae Young Joon, but she's a new mom so she's busy.
Anyway this show is gonna be fun since I love dance programs. I'll do a review post in a couple of days after I've finished my assignment. I might group episode 1 and 2 together.

I’m sorry for abandoning you tumblr blog!
School’s being a bitch but I’m sort of back now, I’m way behind on my One Piece posts and I want to talk kpop, specifically Kingdom, so I’ll start posting again. I think I just need to schedule myself a bit better. I’m also still debating on whether or not to post my writings here but we’ll see.

One Piece Chapter 990
AHHHHH!!! Drake!!!
Ok, so I really want to see Inuarashi and Nekomamushi’s sulong form properly. I’m hoping Oda shows at least some of their fight with Jack and not do it off-page.
Hmm, Is the 1% survival for Drake? I’m glad to see Hawkins again but I’m definitely curious to see where his loyalties lie for this battle. Like Drake said, he didn’t join by choice so maybe he’s reading the situation for now and just sticking with the Animal Pirates. He was still consulting his cards when Who’s Who showed up so I’m curious what he was trying to read.
But secrets are definitely starting to come out. I really hope we get to know what Drake’s mission actually is. What is the purpose of the SWORD special unit? Also that little Koby panel was just the most precious thing.
The chapter feels so short but that was a good cliff-hanger with Drake asking Luffy to join up. Urgh time to wait another week.

One Piece Chapter 989
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these.
I cannot believe the cover story is still going... I kinda lost interest halfway through it. Anyway on to the actual chapter.
So funny when Yamato just runs up to Momo and Shinobu claiming to be Oden. Yeesh the last few chapters have been so character-packed!
Loved how the “adults” of the crew are just disrupting Big Mom everytime. Also, typical Zoro getting lost but somehow ending up in a good place to meet Luffy and they were just so casual in front of Queen.
Full Straw Hat Crew Spread!!! To be honest I’m not a fan of Carrot for nakama so I’m kinda glad she’s not in the group shot. Nothing against her, I just see her as a temporary guest.
I can’t really comment on anything story-wise since most of the chapter is just establishing for the bigger battles that are coming up. I’m glad for the explanation on the Numbers group though.

I love this color spread.
This was such a good final chapter but I’m kinda sad that it’s over.
