Being in love with kazuha was like living in a fairytale fantasy. He gave you butterflies, treated you like royalty and showered you with nothing but love and adoration.

He would cook up breakfast for the both of you as you prepared the plates in your shared dining room. He wrote poems, sang songs and serenaded you all day long during your rare off days of work. It made you wonder really, how did I end up with such a perfect man?

And to think that a few months ago this was your daily life - your daily routine with him. You were the perfect picture couple, an artist and his beloved muse. But when you heard him mutter his ex's name at night, you completely shattered. You thought it was going so well, you thought that he'd finally gotten over her. Sure - she was his first love, but he promised to you that you were the last. Did he not?

You haven't had the courage to confront him about it - no, not when he calls out your name ever so lovingly. As if he wasn't seeing the reflection of his first love in you.

Kazuha, how long must this go on?

You sat at the front of your porch, nearing 12 midnight. Your husband was late, again.

For the past few weeks he'd been avoiding you after you two had a fight regarding his tendencies to turn a blind eye to women openly flirting with him. Zhongli was nice, way too nice - and you knew that. It was exactly how he'd made his way inside your heart without you knowing.

But sometimes there's a limit to how nice one should be. Instead of politely shooting them down, he'd offer a small smile and walk away, pretending like he'd never heard them. And you'd think they'd be discouraged at this but no - they took it as a sign to keep going.

And you could only stand idly by, with rage and insecurities building up inside you. Zhongli expressed his intent to keep your relationship hidden so as to not distract your work life balance while in the office with him. But when you saw the way a co-worker loosened the buttons of her uniform and rubbed up against him, the damn broke and all hell broke loose.

Needless to say you got a three week suspension from HR and was ordered to work at home for the time being, with nobody to talk to and keep you company - your own intrusive thoughts began to stir up an emotion that you had never felt. Not since you got together with Zhongli, fear.

Fear of being abandoned, fear of being cast aside once he realizes that you weren't good enough for him. Fear of being shunned by the man you loved the most.

And so you wait.

You wait and wait until the sun began to rise, and you realize.

He was never coming home.

You knew that the both of you were never bound to last forever.

Really, you should've listened to your parents' when they expressed their clear distaste towards Scaramouche from the start.

"He's not good for you!"

"He can't provide for you! He ran away from home at such a young age, he'll end up nowhere!"

Those mocking words haunted him every night, like a broken record that played on and on inside his head. It was like living in his old house again, where he was suffocated and neglected. A prisoner of expectations.

So when he had first asked you to cut off contact with your parents, you were beyond bewildered and mad. You ended up screaming at him and stormed out of the house. How could he? Those people were your parents, for fucks sakes they raised and loved you! Provided you with everything, and supported you throughout the way! And he's making you cut them off because of what?

Because they don't like him? But you do! So why does it even matter? In the end it's your choice to stay with him.

But this stubborn and hard-headed attitude of yours is exactly why the two of you drifted away. You couldn't see the way your parents looked at him with scornful eyes, refusing to accept him as a part of their family. You couldn't see how they belittled him for not being able to prove anything. And whenever he tried confronting you about how he felt and how he'd been treated, you brushed it off and refused to listen. You thought it was okay if you loved him - but it wasn't.

It never was.

So he buried himself in work, aiming to rise to the top. To feel like he was finally worth something. So he could proudly stand beside you, the one who's always accepted him - even at his lowest. It wasn't that he wanted recognition from your parents, no. Right..?

Scaramouche doesn't say it. But you know it deep within your heart that it has been long since he's given up on you.
