Simple Abundance Sunday
Sarah Ban Breathnach quotes Jo March, "Christmas won't be Christmas without presents." Jo and her sisters take the Christmas that was not Christmas because they did not have the money for presents and visited a family who was even poorer and in poor health. I am not like that. Few of us are; but fortunately, there are good and decent people in the realm of fiction.
Sarah Ban Breathnach had an interesting take on Mary the mother of God. She said that she was selfless and did not have an ego. Otherwise, she would have told God no. She may have been without selfishness, arrogance, and ego; but the Magnificat shows a pretty feisty lady who talks about the rich being sent empty away. My family has means. I always have an appetite for both money and food. I know the Bible is inerrant and infallible, but I hope that verse does not apply to me.
Breathnach says that the gifts brought to us by the baby Jesus are forgiveness and second chances. His voice in my head says to only pray for my enemies' punishment when kneeling in front of His cross. He was punished so that hopefully we would not have to be. Hopefully, we shall all choose love over vengeance but leave any necessary vengeance to Him. I love you, Elizabeth and Anna Rose. Merry Christmas.

All shall be well,
And all shall be well,
And all manner of things shall be well.

Morning and Evening on Thanksgiving
In the morning devotional, Spurgeon breaks down the varied and manifold ways we have fellowship with Jesus. Here they are in a list:
**We share the same loves.
**We share the same desires.
**We suffer together.
**We share the same labors.
**We share the same joys.
**We revel in His glory.
Both we and Jesus love people: both saints and sinners.
Spurgeon called the work that He has given us to do and its actual execution our "meat and drink." I have thought of Jesus as the bread of life because He calls Himself that. Like bread, He is sweet and savory without being cloying and saccharine. Like bread He is satisfying. Like bread, He is a staple. He is not a little side dish, appetizer, or desert; He is a major part of the diet. But I never thought of the work He gives us to do as being food, as being filling and satisfying, as being essential for life, as being deeply pleasurable. I guess my attitude needs to change. If I view a chore as a delicious meal, I might give more out of it and get more out of it.
In the evening devotional, he states "Rest no longer satisfied with our dwarfish attainments..."
Apparently, I should stop resting on my nonexistent laurels and get to work. I probably shan't. But at least Spurgeon gave me good advice.

Simple Abundance Sunday
Dear Sisters,Once upon a time, I was talking to my voices, who may have been my neighbors messing with me through the wall, and one of them accused me of being drunk.  I said I was not drunk and I also was not sober.  Well then what are you? they wanted to know.  I consulted some dictionaries.  I consulted some thesauri.  "I am life besotted." I announced.  Life besotted people are infatuated with the beauty and joy of life.  Life besotted people are silly and drunk on their own stupidity.  Normal tasks are a challenge.  I used to be a member of this tribe and still am on its outskirts.  Members of this tribe need help.  We do not care if it comes from strangers.  Sarah Ban Breathnach spoke in her stirring meditation about the importance of being kind and helpful to strangers.  I have been dependent on the kindness of strangers my whole life.  I have been dependent on the kindness of many people my whole life.
The Epistle reading this week spoke about the importance of not being drunk or asleep but of being awake: alert, watchful, aware, woke.  I used to be good at being life besotted.  I used to be good at being drunk.  I am terrible at being wakeful, vigilant, alert, and woke.  I consume cup after cup of coffee in search of that state of being that I probably shan't ever have.  We shall see.
Go happy,
Lauren
