“[Regina being a lesbian] was always my interpretation of it, still is my interpretation of it. It might not be other people’s, and I truly don’t care. It’s mine, and that’s how I feel.” - Reneé Rapp

Even Mean Girls Cry // Regina George
Summary: After hooking up with Regina for a year, you finally get to see her vulnerable side after The Plastics reject her at lunch.
Possible warnings: light swearing, bullying, and Regina being Regina
Pairing: Regina George x gender!neutral reader (readers gender literally isn’t mentioned)
A/n: first fic of 2024!! I love Reneé’s Regina so feel free to send me any ideas or thoughts about her
Tumblr media
Regina George wasn’t a good person. It was evident ever since the first grade when she told everyone that Peter Howell peed himself after she spilled apple juice on him. So, you did your best to avoid her, and her ever changing minions, every day as you grew up. When you reached high school, Regina’s antics became more frequent and hurtful. By the end of your freshman year, she had at least one embarrassing piece of information on everyone in school, yourself included.
Your streak of successfully avoiding Regina came to an end after winter break during your sophomore year. Ms. Norbury asked you to be Regina’s Intermediate Math tutor since you had the highest grades in your Algebra 2 class. You were hesitant to accept the opportunity considering Regina’s reputation, but you knew tutoring would look great on your college application. You accepted Ms. Norbury’s request and so started your relationship with Regina George.
At first, she sat across from you in the empty cafeteria after school, chomping loudly on her gum and texting a thousand words a minute. Her behavior continued every day that week and by Friday, you’d had enough.
“Regina, stop wasting my time and pay attention.” You finally snapped after she blew an obnoxiously large pink bubble with her gum. Regina’s eyes slowly rose from her phone screen to you.
“What did you just say to me?” Her eyes resting on you instantly made you lose the confidence you just had.
“Oh-I…I meant you should pay attention. I’m trying to teach you, so you don’t fail your next algebra test.” You smiled nervously as Regina’s gaze dug further into you. After a few more moments of intense staring, the blonde let out a scoff.
“You know, you’re actually kind of cute.” Her blue eyes looked you over, this time in a more flirtatious way. You felt like a lamb dangling over a hungry mountain lion.
“Thanks.” You nervously looked away and rubbed the back of your neck in an attempt to get any relief from Regina’s presence.
“So, you agree? You think you’re cute.”
“Umm…I mean, I don’t really know.” Regina’s smile softened and she looked at you as if you were a lost puppy. Without warning, the blonde stood up and made her way to your side of the table. She sat down in the seat beside you and scooted as close as she possibly could, causing your face to warm and your heart to beat faster.
“Have you ever kissed anyone, Y/n?” Regina questioned with her pointer and middle finger dancing on your thigh. Your throat went dry at the mention of the one thing you were embarrassed of. In a school full of hormonal teenagers, you were truly the only one who hadn’t kissed anyone yet. You were kicking yourself for accidentally telling Karen the sensitive information during a bonfire last year.
“You know the answer, Regina.” You said with a defeated exhale. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at Regina, instead, you kept your eyes glued to the table. Suddenly, the two fingers that danced on your thigh were placed gently under your chin, forcing you to look at the blonde beside you. Her eyes were kinder, and her smile was still soft, making you feel less embarrassed.
“It’s okay, you don’t need to be embarrassed.” You didn’t say anything, instead, you softly smiled and took in Regina’s features. You had never noticed how pretty her eyes were or how full her lips were.
“Do you want to kiss me, Y/n?” Regina’s eyebrows lifted with the question. Without even thinking, you blurted out the answer.
“Yes.” You swore for a moment Regina began to blush as she pushed a few stray hairs away from her face.
“Okay. Close your eyes.”
You did as you were told. For a moment, you were worried it was all just a prank, but when you felt Regina’s lips press against yours, you knew it had to be real. You did your best to reciprocate the kiss, causing Regina to let out a small moan, which caused your stomach to flip about ten times. Suddenly, you felt Regina’s hands find your neck and her perfectly manicured nails rested on the nape of your neck, effectively pulling you in deeper.
The sound of a door slamming shut caused both of you to pull away quickly. You couldn’t help but stare at Regina with a bewildered look, seriously questioning if the kiss happened.
“Wow, you're a pretty good kisser, Nerd.”
“T-Thanks. You’re good too.” You sputtered with the most nervous tone you had ever heard from yourself. The blonde laughed before running her fingers along the edge of her lips to wipe away any smeared lip gloss.
“I know.”  The two of you sat in silence for what felt like hours before Regina spoke up.
“So, I’ll see you on Monday then.” She quickly stood up and gathered her things as if nothing had happened.
“I’ll see you on Monday.” You echoed, wiping Regina’s cherry flavored lip gloss off your lips.
“Bye, Nerd.”
“Bye, Regina.”
Almost a full year later and your hookups with Regina were still going strong. In fact, ever since Cady Heron started causing drama between the girls, you had been spending all of eighth period in the back seat of Regina’s Jeep, making out like it was your last moments on earth. Not to mention, secretly hooking up with the queen bee of North Shore gave you a major confidence boost that even Regina noticed. Your relationship had even gone to the next level: texting each other about things that didn’t involve when and where to hookup.
You were sitting in Trigonometry when your phone pinged. You quickly checked it, not wanting to risk Ms. Norbury confiscating it. It wasn’t much of a surprise to see that Regina had texted you.
RG: Sweatpants are the only things that fit me right now
Y/n: So?
RG: So? Jesus Y/n. I can’t wear sweatpants to lunch!
Y/n: Because of the stupid rules YOU made?
RG: They aren’t stupid
Y/n: I’m sure it’ll be fine. The girls will understand
“Y/n, care to share with that class what on your phone is so important that you’re missing out on practice test questions?”
“No. Sorry, Ms. Norbury. It won’t happen again.”
“Good. Now, as I was saying…” You watched Ms. Norbury turn to write something on the board and quickly sent another text to Regina.
Y/n: Just got called out by Norbury for texting you. Hope you’re happy
You went the rest of class without hearing from Regina. In fact, you went most of the day without hearing from her. It was a little weird, but you knew she had a lot going on and it wasn’t like you needed constant communication with each other.
When lunch came around, it was the same old same old. You sat down with some of your other tutor friends and talked about your day. As Daisy Smith talked about her failed attempt to teach Karen about fractions, you saw Regina walk towards The Plastics. True to her word, she wore gray sweatpants that grabbed your, and several others, attention. You didn’t eye Regina for long, not wanting anyone to accuse you of being a creep or being in love with her. You looked down at your lunch only for the room to suddenly go quiet.
“You can’t sit with us!” Gretchen’s voice echoed through the silent room. No one dared to even gasp as Regina fired back.
“Sweatpants are all that fit me right now.” Even though you couldn’t see her face, you could tell Regina was talking through gritted teeth.
“What do you think, Cady?” Gretchen asked, her voice once again echoing through the room.
“Sorry, Regina. Rules are rules.” Seeing the sly look on Cady’s face made you want to march over to her and smash a tray of food in her face. You knew that would lead to a suspension, so you made a mental note to figure out some way to get back at Cady that wouldn’t result in a week off school.
“Fine.”
Regina turned around to see every eye in that room on her. You could tell by the look on her face that for once, she hated the attention. Not a single person in that room moved to make room for Regina as she walked down the aisle.
“Daisy, scoot down.” You quickly nudged the redhead to make room for Regina.
“Regina, you can sit with us.” You offered, eyes slightly full of hope that she would accept the offer and somehow make the situation better.
“I’m not sitting with you losers.” She spat out as she stormed past your table.
“What a bitch.” Glenn Coco scoffed. Your blood boiled at Glenn’s comment, but you knew you had to play it cool to avoid any suspicion.
“Guys, I forgot my math book in Ms. Norbury’s. I’m going to grab it really quick.”
You quickly got up from the table, leaving your tray behind, and stormed off to find Regina. You searched her usual hangout spots, the maintenance room and the girl’s locker room in the gym. When you didn’t find her in either place, you made your way to the only other place she could be, the parking lot.
Sure enough, as you approached her Jeep, you saw Regina sitting in the passenger seat. Even from far away, you could tell she was crying. Cautiously, you approached the car and tapped on her window. The blonde’s head instantly shot up, revealing her red eyes and mascara stained cheeks. You had never seen Regina cry before, and the sight actually shocked you to your core. Without saying a word, you walked over to the driver’s side and climbed in.
“What are you doing?” Regina questioned through sniffles as you put the car in reverse and pulled out of the parking spot.
“I’m taking you home.” Your hands gripped the steering wheel a little tighter when you noticed a picture of Regina, Karen, and Gretchen resting on her dashboard as you drove out of the parking lot.
“I don’t need you to take me home.” Regina tried to use her usual venomous tone, but it came out shaky and pitiful.
“I don’t care if you need me to. I want to take you home. That was fucking ridiculous.”
After a few minutes of silence, you looked over to see tears still rolling down Regina’s face. Based on how her bottom lip was quivering, you knew Regina really needed to cry. You carefully reached your right hand over to Regina and grabbed her hand.
“It’s okay to cry. They tried to humiliate you in front of the whole school. You don’t have to hide it from me.” You squeezed Regina’s hand, which caused her to quickly pull her hand away.
“I am not crying because of those bitches. I’m crying because all I can wear is sweatpants and my mascara is ruined.” That time Regina was able to spit out her usual venom. While her tone would intimidate most people, it let you know Regina was going to be okay.
“Those are still valid reasons to cry.” You said matter-of-factly. You felt Regina’s eyes land on you again, causing you to glance over at her.
“Why are you so nice to me all the time?”
“Because I’m a nice person.” You shrugged, not wanting to give away your true feelings for Regina.
“I think it’s because you like me.”
“And what if I did?” You replied without missing a beat. Once again, you were kicking yourself for not thinking before you spoke.
“I’d have to give you a makeover. I can’t date anyone who dresses like that.”
“What’s wrong with the way I dress?”
“Nothing, if you’re going for a grocery store clerk.” You scoffed and acted offended by Regina’s words, which made the blonde crack a smile.
“I do not dress like a grocery store clerk.”
You both chuckled as you pulled up to the George's home. You instantly took note that Mrs. George’s car was missing from the driveway.
“Do you want to come in? My mom isn’t home.” Regina looked at you with hopeful eyes. Not wanting to leave Regina alone after a traumatic event, you decided that it would be a good idea for you to stick around for a little while longer.
“Yeah, I’ll come in for a little bit.”
You turned off the car and let Regina take the lead into her home. The second the front door closed behind you, Regina took your hand and led you up to her room.
“Shoes off and get on the bed.” The blonde commanded.
“Regina, I don’t think we should-”
“Relax, Nerd. I just want you to hold me and tell me I’m pretty.”
You quickly kicked your shoes off and lied down on the right side of the bed. Once you were comfortable, Regina joined you. Within seconds, her head found a comfortable spot on your chest, resting between your jaw and collarbone. Her hand found its way down to your stomach and balled the fabric of your shirt into her hand. After Regina was comfortable, you snaked your arm around her and held her close. You couldn’t help but look down at the blonde with a smile. When she wasn’t ruining people’s lives, Regina was actually kind of sweet.
“Hey, Regina?”
“What, Nerd?”
“You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.”
“Yeah, I know.” You could feel Regina’s smirk against your neck, which only made you fall a little harder for her.
You laid there, holding the blonde like your life depended on it. Your mind couldn’t help but wonder about finally telling Regina how you felt about her. It seemed like a good idea, especially after a hard day, but the thought of losing her stopped you. So, you just let Regina George, the meanest girl in North Shore, sleep on your chest while you held her close.

monsters on film
synopsis: you ask janis to help with a project
pairing: janis imi'ike x reader
words: 2.1k+
A/N - just trying to spark the urge to write again. i pretty much gave up on this but figured I would share it anyway
WARNING - swearing
Tumblr media
a heavy sigh slips into the early, surprisingly chilly, spring air as you wait rather impatiently at the edge of the tree line. time embarrassingly ticking on. you check the time. she was late. maybe she just was not coming. it had been a last-minute invite. or maybe she had just said yes so you would leave her alone. you swallow that little pang of disappointment. you could still get some interesting shots out here even if she didn't show up.
"hey," adrenaline spikes as you turn sharply. she backs up a little just as startled. "sorry,"
Janis 'imi'ike. local Northshore art freak. usually found drawing or more so sewing. you share an art class so you knew each other but weren't particularly close. you liked watching her work though. it's interesting to watch the cogs turn in her head. "it's okay," you offer a smile.
"so why did you wanna meet?" they wonder.
"I need help with an assignment," a photography assignment to be exact. you needed an excuse to talk to her and when your friend suggested asking Janis to help, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to hang out with her. janis made no apparent to hide her feelings on her face.
"Oh," she hummed. "homework? I thought we were gonna do something fun. Why are we all the way out here then? couldn't we do this at school?" Janis wonders, drifting past you and towards the treeline. "do I look like the outdoorsy type to you?" your eyes follow her. a pit forming in your stomach. maybe this was a bad idea. janis 'imi'ike was far from the outdoorsy type. that's not why you invited her.
"not really,"
"so?" she glances back at you.
you shrug. you're not exactly the outdoorsy type either but you like it out here. it's always so peaceful. "it's for my photography class."
"I don't know much about photography like," Janis admits. "I've fucked about making short films but nothing serious."
a light sparks behind your eyes but it quickly dims; you had a million questions that you were too shy to ask. "I wanna take pictures of you," you clarify. a bark of laughter before she realises you're serious.
"oh shit, why?" her brow furrows. you're not really sure what to say to that. you didn't really want to admit you just needed an excuse to hang out with them so you shrug. they shrug too before heading into the woods. you pull your camera from the backpack and start following her. your approach to photography was merely based on instinct. you took pictures when it felt right. you could apply every trick in the book but that would never guarantee anything good. at least if you work on your own drive then you get something out of it. "just know if you're gonna murder me and take pictures of the body, Damian knows I was meeting you" You're not really sure what to say to that. janis just continues walking, kicking up multicoloured leaves as they go. After a moment they continue. "are we just gonna walk around the woods? do I need to like pose or anything?"
you like that she has come around to the idea of being your model enough to ask questions. "kinda but you don't need to pose. it's not that kind of photoshoot I'm just gonna take pictures when it feels right."
"hmm alright," you fall into silence. it feels a little awkward. small talk had never been your strong suit. "you don't talk much huh?" she comments after a moment; it makes your stomach churn. she was correct but did she need to point it out?
"I'm just nervous," you shrug. she slows until you're walking side by side.
"why? do I make you nervous?" you glance at her just in time to notice the smirk spreading on her lips but as she turns to you and your eyes meet, you quickly look away. "you're the one who randomly invited me to wander around the woods, if anyone should be nervous it should be me,"
you swallow hard. "uh, I'm sorry... I was thinking we should head to the well."
a huff of a laugh. "the well?"
"there's like an old well around here, near this creepy old shack."
"a creepy old shack and an abandoned well? you sure this isn't a murder plot?" she teases. it just makes your stomach sink further. you needed to get over this if you were gonna take at least one decent picture never mind a whole assignment worth. "lead the way then," they insist with a flourish of their hands. there was a fifty chance that you were gonna get lost. janis had been the one to lead up until this point so your positioning was off. you're so anxious the universe will probably do anything to make you look worse. and frankly, even on a good day, you've managed to get all turned around. but still, you lead the charge and the other explores with what little freedom is allowed.
the shack was a small building constructed of now rotting wood. it had two small boarded-up windows. you had never been inside. you pretty much avoided the place altogether. nothing good can come from a creepy old shack. "are we almost there?" Janis calls from further down the hill. "we've been walking for ages." it had not been that long probably more like twenty minutes but admittedly you were leading her uphill. when she reaches you, a hand slaps against your shoulder almost making you drop your camera. heat also rushes to your cheeks.
"It's just up ahead," you explain, pointing towards the building through the trees. the well isn't far from the shack.
"oh shit," the girl breezes past you and continues the journey. you follow behind. Take your camera out and hold it up. watching the other through the lens. but as she looks back with a smile, you lower it. offering a small smile. She waits for you beside the old building. "how longs has this been here?" you just shrug. "what's inside?" you shrug again. "you've never been in?" they ask as they walk up the porch steps. they lean towards one of the windows to see inside. "can we?"
"We can't," you fire back. you knew better than to go into some creepy building in the woods. there's no telling who or what lives in there and you would rather not risk it.
"why?"
"we're not supposed to," the other girl just rolls her eyes.
"nobody is around. who's gonna tell?" the wood creaks as you walk up onto the porch to join her. you didn't know how old this place was once but it looked like it could cave in at any moment. there was no way it was even safe on the porch.
"come on." as she reaches for the handle you grab her shoulder.
"don't," you insist. "please," she seems surprised but it quickly fades as she reaches for your hand. the contact makes blush and you pull your hand away. "sorry, I didn't mean to..." You turn away and step back down. "sorry."
"It's fine," she replies. "you good?" you nod a little. the girl comes up behind you. hesitates for a moment like she's contemplating before speaking up again. "so where's the well?"
"uh right, the well,"
"We don't have to go if you don't want to," they respond.
"It's not much further. just up the hill and left." you look at them. offer a smile which they return.
"let's go," you watch them walk away. feeling embarrassed. feeling awkward. you take a picture of Janis as she weaves between a couple of trees and follow along.
a stone well sits crumbling at the top of the low-rise hill. it was in better condition than the shack for sure. you capture the moment Janis spots it and rushes ahead. and again as she leans over the edge to look down. "how deep is it?"
"not sure," you shrug. "Deep enough that you can't see the bottom." you place your bag on the ledge before looking over into the darkness.
"what do you reckon is at the bottom?" there's a mischievous glint in her eyes as she looks at you. you hold up the camera and she is quick to look away. you take a picture anyway.
"Timmy," her brow furrows.
"it was a joke sorry. old reference."
"Oh, she makes jokes now?" Janis teases. "cute."
"do you reckon people have fallen down there? what if there's like bodies and shit?"
"you seem excited about the bodies,"
"I mean no obviously that's bad but do you reckon?"
"maybe," you shrug. "we'd never know,"
"Exactly!" they respond. "could be anything. like secret tunnels and shit." Janis pushes back and starts rushing around the small clearing. your brow furrows but you snap a picture.
"what are you doing?"
"looking for something to throw down," they bend down and pick up a rock before rushing back over. the hold it got a moment and then let it go. you stare at her as she stares down.
"uh," she holds up her hand to shush you and continues staring. you kick the ground awkwardly and look around. guess she was waiting for a sound.
"I brought coins," you explain.
"did you hear that?" Janis looks to you. you shake your head. "what are the coins for?"
"I always toss one in. Pray nothing ever comes out."
"never took you for the superstitious type," Janis hums. "you think the gate to hell is down there or something,"
"I'm picturing a creature of some kind,"
"What kind of creature?" they ask, she turns to face you. pushing herself up to sit on the ledge. your stomach turns but less because she's focused on you and more on the fear that she could fall in. You'd have no way to help.
"I dunno. just like this giant shadow creature. pitch black from head to toe, can't distinguish any part of its body except for when it bares its teeth. and it has like these sharp yellow eyes."
"a shadow creature," Janis repeats. "quite the imagination."
"you never know," you insist.
"Can I have a coin?"
"Sure, grab my bag from beside you," the girl turns recklessly looking for the bag and knocks it backwards. the ledge is big enough that it doesn't fall in but the fact it was unzipped and Janis grabbed the bottom meant a lot of the contents slipped out and into the darknesses "holy shit." you rush to the edge but it's too late. the girl picks up your bag more carefully this time. holding it out. you practically snatch it from her, looking inside. all your film. gone. fuck. you had your last assignment in there and it was tomorrow. you drop the bag and go back to staring down the well.
"fuck,"
"was that important?"
"only all my photos and backup film."
"do you have them saved to like the cloud or something?"
"I mostly shoot on physical film- fuck."
"I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to, I-"
"It's okay,"
"no, it's not." Janis insists.
"it was an accident. I didn't realise I left it open."
"Sorry,"
"It's fine," you sigh softly backing away. "do you still want a coin?" you pick your bag up. at least your camera wasn't in there.
"do you wanna leave?" Janis suggests. you shake your head.
"I still need some pictures." you root through the backpack, unzipping the back pocket to collect a coin. "here."
she takes it slowly. it's clear the atmosphere has changed once again. and just when you started feeling more comfortable.
it's Friday. you have art today. you haven't spoken to Janis since that evening. it's only been two days though. you know she feels bad but you can't deal with it. you're too stressed about the pictures you lost. you walk in and take your usual spot around the table.
"hey," Janis takes the spot beside you. normally James sat there. "can we talk?"
"We don't need to," you insist. "it's fine."
"I feel like you're mad at me," Janis comments. "and I'd rather talk it out than have you avoid me."
"I'm not mad at you," you reply. "I'm just... stressed."
"what are you gonna do?"
"I explained the situation but I only got a three-day extension. so I have to do the entire thing again over the weekend."
"I'm sorry,"
"please stop apologising,"
"but it was my fault,"
"it was an accident," you express. "it's just as much my fault so let's just... move on."
"Are you free over the weekend?"
"no, I have homework to do. where are you not listening?"
"other than that?"
"I'm not gonna have time for anything else,"
"let me help you- it's the least I can do."
"you don't have to do that,"
"I want to, please?"
you shrug. "fine. whatever. you can help."

Tumblr media
Regina George had made fun of nearly everyone at school. No one was immune to her relentless teasing, that’s just the way it was at North Shore - so why was it that she had never seemed to target you before? You didn’t seem to mind it at all. In a way, it made you feel special.
The first incident of this type of treatment started when you had been walking rather quickly down a hallway to your next class. You had gotten so carried away studying in the library, that you hadn’t heard the bell ring. This led to you rushing to get to math class, not paying much attention to your surroundings. In the next step, you had felt yourself crash into someone in front of you. Judging from the way surrounding voices became hushed and the way you felt as though the halls had eyes all of a sudden, you could have guessed who it was without even looking at them. It was Regina George. In that moment, as you realised the identity of the girl who towered over you, you had braced yourself for an onslaught of insults. Yet they never came. Instead, upon meeting her gaze, you had seen her eyes soften, followed by her giving you an almost apologetic smile. But, before you could utter your own apology to her, she had already disappeared into the sea of students.
You had imagined that moment to have been a one-time thing. Maybe she was in a really good mood that day - anything to brush off her strange behaviour. But then came the second incident, where you had been heading into the cafeteria to grab some lunch and sit with your usual group of friends. As you had entered the cafeteria, you could already hear Regina’s voice loud enough, making her usual scathing comments about people as they walked past her table. Talking about their appearance, their clothes, or their hair - how trashy they looked. Once again, as you made your way past the table where the plastics were seated, you had mentally prepared yourself for whatever nasty comment would inevitably leave Regina’s mouth. Yet, when she had spotted your nervous gaze on her, all she did in return was smirk. You could’ve sworn she had given a subtle wink at you too, but with your racing thoughts, it was hard not to focus on simply making it past her as quickly as possible.
It was twice now, that you had escaped Regina’s infamous wrath. Which had left you wondering the reasons why - not that you were complaining.
It was actually nice not having to worry about being the target of Regina’s verbal attacks. So, within the next few days, you had grown the confidence to gift her warm smiles whenever you would catch her eye on you.
Then came the following week in the class that both you and Regina happened to share. As usual, you walked in and took a seat right in the corner, tucked away from everyone, ready to daydream your way through the hour. You had spotted Regina surrounded by Gretchen and Karen, chatting and giggling, while the teacher droned on about whatever chapter the class would be asked to read for next week’s quiz. You were finding it a little hard to focus on your own thoughts, as you kept feeling Regina’s gaze on you every so often. She was making it incredibly subtle – but not subtle enough.
What broke you out of your daydream was when the teacher seemed to have had enough of the chatter from the plastics, as she had suddenly ordered Regina and Gretchen to switch seats with other students. The worst part about this wasn’t that your daydreaming was interrupted, but that the student Regina was made to switch seats with, happened to be the student sitting next to you. You watched as she had rolled her eyes in the process of making her way over to the space next to you. She feigned indifference, as though sitting next to you wasn’t a big deal.
She had been waiting for a chance all week to finally get closer to you.
You can feel Regina’s presence next to you as you steal a glance at her before attempting to keep your focus towards the front. You seemed to be succeeding for a short while until, in your peripheral vision, you notice Regina drop her pencil. It rolls towards your desk. You have no time to wonder if it’s intentional or not before you feel her lean towards you, brushing her arm against yours as she reaches to pick it back up. This slight touch causes a flutter in your stomach, which you tried to hide by remaining stoic. Though as she rose back up, instead of returning back to her own space, she leaned in close, her lips next to your ear.
“What’re you doing after school, pretty girl?”
Her voice, low and confident, sent a small shiver down your spine. As she moved backwards you felt her eyes boring into you, in an intense yet nervous manner. Caught slightly off guard, you hesitated, wondering how you should respond…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This first interaction accelerated the relationship between you and Regina. You began to grow very close and she was making it much more obvious to people at school that you were hers. You would often go over to her house, sometimes accompanied by Gretchen and Karen, sometimes alone. Nothing romantic had happened between the two of you, yet some strange tension always lingered whenever you were around each other. You hadn’t bothered to question it; you were simply enjoying being placed on a pedestal in Regina’s eyes. Though, some of her passing comments would trigger that same flutter in your stomach as the first time she had spoken to you.
In the same class, a few weeks later, you had walked in to take your usual seat. You then watched as Regina struts in and makes her way towards the student who had decided to sit next to you. In the next moment, you saw them scamper away as Regina had ordered them to move.
“It’s nice to see that pretty little face of yours light up whenever I come around”
She whispered in sultry tone, as she settled into her seat. Until she had spoken those words, you hadn’t noticed the shy smile you had been sporting in response to her making the effort just to sit next to you. The remainder of the hour passed by uneventful.
The bell, which signified the lunch period, finally rang. This meant the majority of the class had packed up and left within a minute or so, leaving you completely alone with Regina. The tension that was always present between the two of you, seemed to fill the room once again. Once you had packed your things, you got out of your seat, ready to follow the rest of your classmates to the cafeteria – yet your plans were interrupted after you sensed Regina leave her seat behind you. You felt a hand catch yours which caused you to spin around to see why she was holding you back.
“Regina, I’m so hungry I’m about to ravage the next edible thing I see. What’s up?” You questioned her, with a sense of urgency knowing you were losing your chance to be first in the lunch line.
“Quit whining pretty girl, I just wanted you alone. I haven’t stopped thinking about you allll day.” The tone of her voice practically made you melt in front of her. It was hard to resist her after the treatment she had given you these past few weeks. From the touch of her hand to her soft voice, you had almost forgotten why you were in such a rush to leave the room. Though, now you were alone, you did have one question that had been playing on your mind from the day she started treating you differently. Until this moment you hadn’t realised how much the shared tension had been getting to you.
“Hmm All day?” You fell silent for a moment, hesitating, before continuing “and how do I know this isn’t all a joke, huh? Out of all the people in this school G, why me? What makes me so different from the others?”  You spoke in a curious tone, though remaining flirty. Judging from her break in eye contact, she hadn’t expected you to question her intentions here, of all places. After a moment, she thought of an idea on how to reassure you, whilst still maintaining the tone of the exchange. She stood tall in front of you, pulling you toward her, gripping either side of your waist now. She looked down at you slightly, moving from your eyes to your lips, then back your eyes again. With the corners of her mouth raised, she replied in a low voice,
“You know what I think of most people in this school? I don't. The only person I ever think about is you. I want to show you exactly what sets you apart from the rest…”  Without allowing you time to respond, she leaned her face down, attempting to meet your lips with her own…
“GUYS HURRY UP, IT’S FRIDAY WHICH MEANS THEY’RE DOING CHEESY FRIES.”
Karen’s voice echoed across the room, causing the two of you to jump apart, startled by the sudden interruption. Being lost in the shared moment, neither of you had heard her come rushing back into the classroom to find you. You felt your face grow red hot and saw Regina clearly sharing the same level of embarrassment. After exchanging an awkward glance, Regina gripped your hand once more and led you towards the door, a mix of excitement and frustration left hanging between you both.

Bass pounded in your ears. Flashing lights blinded your vision into dancing spots you tried to blink away. You squeezed past bodies and a few stools to reach the bar. Why you agreed to come out on a Friday night, you didn’t know. Crowds weren’t really your thing.
The bartender checked your ID and took your drink order. A simple Malibu with orange juice and grenadine—your comfort drink. You stayed close to the bar and sipped on your cocktail as your gaze swept the floor looking for her.
She hadn’t left your mind since running into her at the coffee shop. You mulled over what to do for the next week. Part of you wanted to throw her card out and put it all behind you while the other part yearned to see her again. All of your feelings resurfaced and muddled together—including the ones you’d found she reciprocated.
Her statuesque figure finally sauntered past the bouncer to enter the club. She still walked like she owned the place, like wherever she went was her domain—like an apex predator. She paused and scanned the dance floor before spotting you sitting at the bar.
You lifted your hand in a small wave to make sure she saw you. She grinned, and you swore it was genuine excitement from the way her eyes crinkled at the corners and the sparkle in her eye when she got close enough to see.
“You made it,” she said before greeting the bartender by name. She ordered a strawberry margarita without having to show her ID for verification of her age.
They probably knew her. Everybody in Evanston knew Regina George.
You gave a small smile. “I made it,” you repeated. “Wasn’t sure if I was going to, to be honest.”
“I wouldn’t have blamed you if you stood me up.”
Regina slid onto the stool next to yours. It still felt strange to you, hanging out with your high school bully. You still found yourself on edge like it was all just a ruse and she was just waiting for the right moment to pounce. Even if she did appear to be sincere, the fear lingered in the back of your mind.
She turned towards you. “So, catch me up,” she said. “What have you been doing the past five years?”
You kept your story short and simple. You glanced over your higher education and your new job, how you finally had a place of your own, and how you had broken up with your boyfriend just within the last couple of months.
“Oh.” For a moment, you swore you could see a glimmer of disappointment, but it was swiftly masked with a laugh. “Yeah, boys are awful. They can never appreciate what’s right in front of them.”
“Yeah…” You couldn’t tell if she meant that as a compliment or just a general statement. Even after all these years, she was still hard to read. She’d been an expert at hiding her true intentions five years ago—there was no reason for you to think she’d lost that talent.
Regina touched your arm briefly. “Still, I’m sorry to hear that. It must have been hard for you.”
Trying to ignore the way your skin tingled beneath her hand, you shook your head. “No. I mean, not exactly. I cared for him, but…” You paused briefly to think of how to put it into words. “It just didn’t feel right, you know? We weren’t meant to be together.”
“Yeah, I know what you mean.” She sighed a bit in exaggeration, holding her head up with her palm. “I had my first girlfriend a couple years ago. Met her in New York. It was the same thing. She just wasn’t… It just didn’t work out,” she said.
She just wasn’t you.
You chuckled a bit and finished off the last of your drink. “Relationships suck,” you complained.
“Not if you find the right person.”
Her eyes stared into yours like she could see down to your deepest thoughts and darkest desires. Heat bloomed in your cheeks. You turned back to the bar and cleared your throat, calling the bartender over for another drink.
Regina smiled as you shied away from her advances. She could read you like a book—you were flattered that she was complimenting you. At the same time, you were still unsure about her, still had your guard up. The liquor would help take the walls down. Her goal wasn’t to get you drunk, but she did want you to feel more comfortable around her.
Your name fell from her lips like golden honey. You were almost appalled at how appealing it sounded to your ear and the way your body reacted. You turned back to her warily, trying desperately not to let it show on your face.
“I know this probably doesn’t mean much coming from me right now,” she said gently, “but you look beautiful tonight—you always have.”
A chuckle awkwardly burst its way out of you before you could think of a more appropriate response. “I look like a troll next to you, Regina,” you said. “I mean, look at me. I’m not anything special—not like you.”
You didn’t mean to say that last part out loud. The cocktail in your hand suddenly became much more interesting as you swirled your straw around the colorful liquor.
Regina huffed a laugh. “I’m not special,” she denied. “I’m just like any other mean girl who peaked in high school.”
“Mean girls don’t go out of their way to apologize.” You looked up at her through your lashes. “You’ve grown a lot, Regina. Me…” Sighing, you trailed off and took a sip of your drink before continuing. “I’m your typical victim-type who can’t move past stuff that happened when we were stupid teenagers,” you said.
She looked like she wanted to say something. Instead, she sighed and ordered two new drinks—one for her and one for you—when you both ended up finishing your current ones at the same time. Her eyes drifted over to the dance floor before she turned back to you with renewed energy.
“We should go dance.”
“Hell no,” you laughed, shaking your head. “I’m not gonna embarrass myself like that.”
“Oh, come on, babe. Everyone’s drinking, nobody cares. Trust me, you’ll be fine.”
Your heart fluttered when she called you that. You were certain it had just slipped out and that she didn’t realize what she had said. But you wanted to hear it more—you wanted her to say it again.
The straw found purchase between your lips as you tried to drown out the growing allure radiating from Regina George. Your head was beginning to lighten the more liquor you consumed. Normally you didn’t drink so fast, but your nerves were on fire and you wanted to quell the flames.
Regina groaned. “Then will you do some shots with me? Just a few,” she clarified when you gave her a look. “I just think it’ll help you relax and allow yourself to have a good time.”
She pouted, pursing her berry-colored lips out playfully. You tried standing your ground but ended up groaning in defeat. She grinned when you reluctantly agreed to the shots and flagged down the bartender.
As it went, one shot turned into three, and you were feeling pretty good. The spirits no longer burned your throat and just warmed you up like a furnace from your stomach. You could definitely feel the effect—you loved it. Your head swam pleasantly and you no longer felt like Regina was out to get you or that you had to walk on eggshells around her.
Maybe you should have started drinking in high school.
Regina and you threw back another Vegas Bomb drop shot. A grin worked its way to your face as you then finished off what was left of your double-shot tequila sunrise in a single gulp.
The blonde at your side laughed and moved the glass away from you before you knocked it over. “Let’s slow down a bit, baby. I want you to remember tonight.”
“I’m still not dancing.” You pointed a finger at her.
She waved down the bartender for two waters. “I actually have something else in mind,” she said, “but you need to sober up a bit first.”
“I’m plenty sober.”
“You just did three shots, baby. It’s time for some water.”
Your teeth dug into your bottom lip. Maybe you weren’t completely sober, because as soon as the thought skittered across your mind, you blurted, “I like when you call me that.”
Regina raised a brow. Her lips pulled into a sly smirk as your eyes traveled there. You wanted to know how they would feel against your own. They looked like they’d be soft. Maybe they’d taste like the berry they’re colored after, or maybe there would be some sugar lingering from the lemon drop.
She shifted, and you quickly snapped your gaze back up. Maybe you were more under the influence than you thought. You took a long sip of water to help clear your head.
Her hand landed on your thigh. You nearly choked on your water at the touch. Your eyes glanced from her hand to her face. She watched you intently with a dark gleam in her eyes that stoked a small flame in your belly. You bit back a small noise at the overwhelming sensation.
“I need you to drink the water, baby,” she said, leaning in so her sweet breath hit your face, “because I don’t want us to feel like I’m taking advantage of you.”
“You’re not.”
Slowly you raised your hand until your fingertips grazed her cheek. Her skin felt supple against yours, just as smooth and soft as you’d imagined it would be. She kept her eyes on you, watching carefully, not wanting to make a move that might potentially scare you off.
You sucked in a breath. “I’m sober enough to know what I want,” you murmured, “but tipsy enough to finally go through with it.”
Regina pressed forward until her lips fell onto yours. The kiss electrified your nerves. You slid your hand into her hair, wrapping your fingers at the roots to hold her close. A low noise came from the back of her throat before she made herself pull away—she wouldn’t have been able to stop if she didn’t.
“How do you feel?” Her gentle voice prompted you to open your eyes.
You let out an airy laugh. “Like I just lived out a childhood fantasy.”
Regina smiled and pulled away. Her hand remained on your thigh as she took a sip of her water. You followed suit, unable to downplay the elation gripping your heart. You’d been wanting to know what that would feel like for almost ten years. Now that you had, you had to laugh at yourself for being one of the oldest cliches.
You were in love with your high school bully.
