If two YouTubers that haven’t been “relevant” since 2013 can raise 83,000$ for Gaza, then yall can share posts about Gaza. It’s literally the least you can do.

[ID: lettering art by OP. In the center the message "free Gaza" in red text is combined with the Palestinian flag and black blocking to make a square shape. The lettering for "free Gaza" has three red drops of blood in the enclosed parts of the letters. The background of the entire thing is a light tan color. In each corner is a motif of an olive branch. On the top and bottom of the border is written "free the people free the land" in red text, and on either side of the border is written "ceasefire now! ceasefire now!" in matching text. /End ID]

For black history month, I’d like to shed some light on some of my favorite queer people of color. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈💗
Tumblr media
1). MARSHA. P JOHNSON ✨
Marsha. P Johnson was an American drag queen born August 24th 1945. Johnson was known for being a prolific queer and trans right advocate. She was also apart of the stone wall riots which sent of a wave of LGBTQ rights and protests. A quote by her:
“Darling, I want my gay rights now. I think it’s about time the gay brothers and sisters got their rights… especially the women.”
Tumblr media
2). LUCY HICKS ANDERSON.
Tumblr media
Lucy Hicks Anderson was a transgender pioneer for marriage equality. She was known as Americas first ever prominent trans women. Lucy was married to her husband, and paved the way for marriage equality. A quote by her:
“I defy any doctor in the world to prove that I am a woman.”
3). BAYARD RUSTIN.
Tumblr media
Bayard Rustin was a gay civil rights activist. He is heavily recognized as being a key part in the civil rights movement. He was a prominent gay man during the civil rights movement when there was no space to talk about lesbian and gay issues. A quote by him:
“If we desire a society of peace, then we cannot achieve such a society through violence. If we desire a society without discrimination, then we must not discriminate against anyone in the process of building this society. If we desire a society that is democratic, then democracy must become a means as well as an end.”
4). AUDRE LORDE
Tumblr media
Audre Lorde was a lesbian poet. Who made lasting contributions to feminist activism and history. Being known as a fierce advocate for queer, black, and women’s rights. Among her most notable works are “Coal” (1976), “The Black Unicorn” (1978), “The Cancer Journals” (1980) and “Zami: A New Spelling of My Name” (1982). A quote from her:
“I write for those women who do not speak, for those who do not have a voice because they were so terrified, because we are taught to respect fear more than ourselves.”
5). JAMES BALDWIN
Tumblr media
James Baldwin was a American writer and social critic. He is perhaps best known for his 1955 collection of essays, "Notes of a Native Son," and his groundbreaking 1956 novel, "Giovanni's Room," which depicts themes of homosexuality and bisexuality. Which broke social norms and showed that queer people had a place in the books they read. James spent most of his career educating people on black culture and history. And taught more people about homosexuality in a good light. A quote by him:
“Everybody’s journey is individual. If you fall in love with a boy, you fall in love with a boy. The fact that many Americans consider it a disease says more about them than it does about homosexuality.”
————————
Thank you to everyone who read this all the way through! I can’t donate money to organizations but try to do the best I can. We need to start recognizing the wonderful things that have come from the black queer community. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈💗I hope I can do a little bit to positively help.

Happy Black History Month! The thing that makes American folk music American is the interaction between Euro-American and African-American musical styles (and, it must be said, the appropriation of the latter by the former). Old-time music is often thought of as music exclusively by and for white people, but that has never been true and isn't true today. Here are some groups and artists to check out this month:
- Joe and Odell Thompson; fiddle and banjo from North Carolina, mentors to the new Carolina Chocolate Drops
- Homer Walker - clawhammer banjo player, born in WV
- Elizabeth Cotten - do I need to say more?
- Etta Baker - filigreed, intricate women's blues guitar. She also played banjo.
- The Carolina Chocolate Drops - no longer together, sadly, but one of the best stringbands of the new millenium. Check out their albums and the solo music of Chocolate Drops alums Dom Flemons, Hubby Jenkins, and Rhiannon Giddens. I especially like Dom's solo stuff and his exploration of older and neglected traditions like rhythm bones and cowboy hollers
- Jeron "Blind Boy" Paxton - incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist and one of the most charismatic performers active today

Everyone figures things outs on their own pace, take your time no matter what step you may be at in your queer journey. 💗🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ totally agree with this person
My best advice I can offer to anyone questioning their gender (or sexuality or romantic orientation); choose whatever label fits best or don’t choose one at all. You don’t have to define it if it’s too confusing or complex.
I saw a post somewhere and forgive me because I can’t quote it word for word because I forgot so I’ll paraphrase, but it basically said that labels won’t always be 100% accurate and it’s okay to choose ones that explain your experience only 25%/100, or 75%/100, it all just depends on you. And I think that’s the best advice I could’ve heard because I was questioning my sexuality and romantic orientation once again during the time I read it. The weight was lifted when I found a label that works but doesn’t describe my experience completely, it’s as close as I’ll get, and I reminded myself that that’s okay.
Sometimes labels make us feel better and it’s valid to want to have one, but remember that they don’t always have to explain what you’re feeling completely. But labels are also only tools, so if you don’t need them or can’t find one that works then don’t use them. Or just create your own if you want to be creative.
yeah!!! im gonna pin this because it sums up the exact bit of advice i always struggle to get across and it needs to be said more often.

nothing has been more important to my being queer than when i went to my first pride parade, got seperated from my group, had a panic attack about it and was sitting on the side of the road holding a tiny genderfluid flag and freaking out. then this six foot five drag queen in four inch heels appeared from literally nowhere and sat down next to me. i, this scared-shitless trans bi kid at pride for the first time, very nervously told her she looked pretty and i told her my name and that i got lost and didn't feel like i should be at pride and she held my hand and said "oh, honey, everybody deserves to be here, especially you. pride is for everybody who's ever gotten lost, who's been scared of who they are or where they are. you think we never been scared before? pride's for you, honey, because you're scared. you don't have to be proud right now, but you're gonna be one day, honey, i'm sure of it."
i found my group soon after that and i never saw that queen again but to this day i am convinced i met an angel.
so yeah. pride is for you. pride is for all of us.

I think something that is so intrinsic to the queer experience is staying up all night, reading or watching a gay love story on your phone, holding back sobs. Knowing that you could have this one day, that you could be this happy one day. But for now, you have the same four scraps of hope. And while they can be badly written, or unrealistic, and sometimes not even meant for queer eyes; they are yours. And for the night you can hold this hope in your hands and pretend that you are entitled to your own love story, outside of the screen. And you don’t have to be so afraid until the morning comes.
