My last post made me think. Emily doesn't really have anyone except her BAU friends. Like Rossi said, she doesn't have anyone except BAU team members, and she isn't close to her mom or have any siblings. I'm not someone who is pushing Emily to have a love interest in S17, but I do hope we will see her private life a little bit outside the BAU, maybe friends or something but outside her fbi circle. My girl's life is just Interpol-BAU-Interpol-BAU-FBI :((

On the first half, my mind went in different directions, and it reminds me of Meredith Grey's conversation with her therapist 🫠🫠

I think when Emily is away, he'll use those clothes she stole because they smell like her.

Aaron made a shared docs where he puts every recipe idea he randomly finds on the internet or comes across, and Emily always just sends him the link of what she wants to try because she's too lazy to open the docs, and he'll religiously add it.

Every time they try a recipe, he'll ask her and the kids to rate them, and he'll put the picture and rating in the document too.

The first thing he does every time he goes home is a loongg hug with Emily, putting his head on the crook of her neck. He'll say she has magic hugs, and the first thing Emily does is kiss him and ask what he's been doing while she was away, his voice relaxes her.

Emily loves to randomly send him links to funny videos, and Dave always teases him about making time to watch every single thing she sends, even if he's tired. He loves to know what she's up to, and sometimes when Emily sends him links out of boredom even though she knows he's busy, she's always surprised when, at night before sleep, he comments on those videos.

He loves going shopping with her, even though he hates crowds. He still waits for her, loving to see her excited over something and doing little fashion shows for him.

The more stressed he is, the more touchy he'll be. Emily never tells him, but his new tell is that he can't stop touching her when he's stressed, and he'll get agitated if she randomly leaves.

Thoughts on hotchniss being soft with each other? In an established relationship situation

I definitely think they're Soft. Everything we've seen of Hotch in a relationship shows him soft and always seeking out touch, and Emily is so tactile in general. I think they both need the reassurance of safe touch - they both have trauma all the way from childhood, so I think they both seek out that physical connection to make them feel safe. Hands in hair and on hips and on waists and just always cuddling. I think sometimes they can touch when they can't talk - cuddling for comfort before they're ready for words.

So yeah. I think they're cuddlers. I think she wears his shirts at home and he loves it, the way she looks in them and the smell of her on them. I think they like to stay touching whenever they're just sharing space, like she reads with her feet or her head in his lap...

He remembers how happy the homemade cookies and brownies made her on cases, so he bakes sometimes just to make her smile. He starts with brownies from a box mix and doesn't progress much from there but it delights her every time. They leave each other notes. She adds doodles.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think that narrative fits with Hotchniss. Emily I think is mature enough in her decision to date someone whom she has a lot of risks to begin with, and Aaron, I believe is the type of guy who can read the situation quickly and will solve the problem immediately, or he will let the relationship go, especially because Jack is involved too. I think they will consider this matter individually and together before they date each other and risk everything they've built for years

It’s funny because I actually agree with all of your points. I definitely don’t think it’d have been easy if they made hotchniss canon, which is one of the reasons why I’m glad it’s not. I can see so many issues (such as Hotch treating Emily differently) that would potentially have to be solved by Hotch stepping down or one of them switching to a different division—some major change like that that would really hinder the team dynamic. One thought I’ve been having recently is that if one of them is incapacitated for whatever reason—injury, sickness, personal matter, whatever—the other would be too, especially if they would be married. And obviously missing one agent is difficult, but to miss two and one of them is the unit chief would stilt the dynamic of the team and make solving cases harder, I think. I also don’t think Aaron would fully be able to treat Emily as just one of his subordinates after that, no matter how hard they both try.

I think both of them would try to hold back so much, because they know how complicated it would be for both of them, but they just wouldn’t be able to help it. Both of them are very professional and are very attached to their jobs because they worked so hard to get to their current positions, so they’d be very hesitant to take the first step, so much so that something almost doesn’t happen, until maybe a major incident like Doyle that would make them say fuck it, you know?

Also I would like to believe that Aaron would have learned from his mistakes with Haley and he would start putting his family first instead of work. And Emily would get it, of course; she works the same job and knows how he feels about it, but she could also help him get there. I know that for Emily, family (BAU fam, Jack, Aaron) would easily come before the job so she wouldn’t struggle with it as much as he does.

However when it comes to Jack, I think this is one of the points where Aaron wouldn’t hesitate, because (this is a headcanon for me but I consider it canon haha) Jack loves Emily so so much and she loves him so much too, he just got so attached to her and Jess after Haley. I think Jack could be a driving force in getting them together lol.

All that said, I don’t think they’d fully work in canon, unless it would be a season 12+ situation in which one of them is out of the BAU. Idk how to explain it properly but in theoretical canon it would work but in��actual canon it would be pretty difficult. I try to make my fics as realistic as possible, but in the end I am aware that they contain a little bit of silliness because there are so many things about an established relationship in the BAU that are not plausible, especially between Hotch and one of the other team members. Realistically there are lots of problems that wouldn’t slide—what if they break up? What if they have kids and they both want to stay in the BAU? What if they can’t maintain the professional boundary?—but in the end I’m just shipping them and writing fics for my silly little mental health. I can say all I want that I want them to be canon, but we all know it’d be too messy for that to happen lol. I will be content just writing them sneaking into each other’s hotel rooms and secretly holding hands under the table <3

I really hate how they forgot about the plot involving JJ's liaison work. They spent many episodes, directly and indirectly, explaining to us the importance of her job and how she filled the space where the profilers can't, completing each other. It feels like all those episodes have become null for them.

and lets talk about this:

In the earlier seasons of Criminal Minds, every person has a role,

I hate how they stopped caring about this later in the series. Don't get me wrong, I love Reid, but I hate how they overuse his genius to solve all the work (cue: lazy writing). It's like, what do the others even do then? Reid, Garcia, and a couple of police working on the ground could easily handle their jobs.

Let’s talk about how important JJ is to the team, especially in earlier seasons

In the earlier seasons of Criminal Minds, every person has a role, Reid is the brains, Garcia is the tech genius, Morgan and Elle/Emily act as the tactical team and Hotch and Rossi/Gideon act as the leaders. Everybody talks about these roles but people don’t realise how important JJ really was

JJ acted as the communications liaison between the press and police and this role is extremely important. JJ was the reason the team heard any of the cases that they did, it was her who decided what they should and shouldn’t hear. She didn’t get to go on holidays (seen end of season 1) because she had to stay behind and keep looking at cases. She had to read hundreds of horrible cases, looking at the most horrific evidence and making the decision by herself as to which ones were the most important

She then had to control the press which is extremely difficult to do during any case because the press are like pariahs; they often don’t care about the moral implications as long as the story they are selling is successful. She had the job of controlling them so that they didn’t tamper with the case, on top of everything else she had to do

Then, she was in charge of telling the families that their loved ones didn’t make it; she took the brunt of any aggression and blame that they placed and had to keep her emotions completely in check whilst this happened

Finally, on top of all of this, she had to act as a field agent when needed

She did so much yet never actually got any credit from the fans for what it is that she did. If you want to be reminded about how hard her job is, season 4 episode 7 onwards gives you a good reminder
