i really do believe i am protected. nearly every single hardship i have faced in life has made me stronger, more optimistic and leave with an even bigger heart. and if i don’t feel like that yet, i know those feelings of acceptance and peace will come in due time.

Taking an Epsom Salt bath to cleanse not only the body but the mind as well. Sometimes adding extra things to your normal practices make them feel a little more special. Really anything can be witchcraft, it's all about that intent and how it makes you feel. This bath is cleansing for me because I want it to be :)

i despise how jkr wrote divination to be inconsequential and silly
divination just is a tool that channels answers already inside you, that shows you different points of view and reality checks you.
i think that hermione would love divination like tarot actually. give me hermione pulling out the deck when harry is catastrophizing something and giving him a reading that essentially says dude youre ok youre over thinking and you are safe. She would 10000% be into bibliomancy where a book falls open and something on the page is a message.
molly weasley absolutely 100% reads all kinds of divination. tea leaves, tarot, pendulum, bibliomancy, assigns meaning to the spices that she accidentally drops, she would scry, and in anything, from the reflction of her soup or coffee to mirrors and an heirloom crystal ball.
ron would of course think these things are obvious answers to problems at hand the same way he saw the grim and knew it was bad news. he's superstitious but he's also his mothers child and her kitchen witchery would follow him forever.
give me ron using a pendulum to get the answers to homework he didn't do. give me ron reading tea leaves as a force of habit.
give me hermione and ron's acceptance of divination as real combined to minimize harry's internal suffering from overthinking and jumping to conclusions
and !! give me harry whose only connection to the wizarding world when he goes to privet drive is the innocuous mandane magic!! give me harry who pores over his deck of playing cards every night give me harry who starts looking for answers in his tea leaves and geomancy and bibliomancy and numerology and makes himself a pendulum bc no one but him would know!!
give me the marauders having tarot nights; give me sirius carrying a bag of runes that he pulls from all the time, even for mundane things; give me james doing a spread for when he'll pull lily and the cards are basically change and empathy and the tower etc and he's confused until sirius runs away and his focus shifts until he forgets about the cards
give me the tower and ten of swords coming up repeatedly for months before halloween '81 and confirming their fears and putting everyone on edge.
give me remus using divination in PoA to realize that sirius is innocent
UGH JUST GIVE ME PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND DIVINATION!!

Divination Intro
Tumblr media
Like any other school of Magick, Divination uses many different methods in order to divine esoteric knowledge, including the past, present, and possible future.
Important note: It is important to remember that, no matter the type of divinatory practices used, no single person is able to tell the future. There are always variables at play that may change your future and your destiny. Divination simple says that, should things continue as they are, this is the most likely outcome of the situation.
How does divination work?
Tumblr media
In and around all things is a flow of energy. You can think of this flow of energy as the circle of life type of thing from Lion King. “The circle of life flows through us all”, or, like water: Water particles are everywhere, even in the air we breath, and is thus constantly in motion. Same with energy. Energy makes up the very fabric of our existence, making us connected to everything around us.
Here’s a witchy secret they don’t often bother to tell you: We are connected to this energy, and this energy is connected to all things. Energy, at its base, is information.
When we tap into this energy, we are able to see the information that the energy has to give us. Different diviners use different methods of tapping into this energy, but it’s all the same.
Kinds of Divination:
By no means is this list exhaustive. As mentioned before, there are many ways in which diviners practice divination. None is better than the other, and all accomplish basically the same thing. There are a few that I have dabbled in, and a lot that I have not.
Cartomancy
Tumblr media
The most common and well known form of divination is divining using a deck of cards, most commonly tarot. Among the cards are different sets of titles and imagery that is meant to invoke some sort of reaction from your intuition. The best way to work with the tarot, oracle, or any other deck of cards is allow the cards to speak to you, and not you for it. In other words, allow there to be a natural progression as you read the tarot, instead of forcing meanings where there may be none.
Runes (Futhark)
Tumblr media
Runes are another form of divination that use ancient symbols housing esoteric wisdom to divine. According to the legends which I’ve read, the runes are Norse in origin, but the exact details of how they came to be is a mystery. It is said that they were sacred to the Norse goddess Freya, and were possibly even discovered by her. She then introduced then to Odin, the Allfather, god of war, and the greater mysteries. Odin, who became fascinated by them, hung himself in a tree to die a shamanic death, and was then reborn as Odin the Runemaster. At some point, it is rumored that Odin then gifted the runes to man.
Whatever the legends, the runes do have an energy all their own, but are not quite as easy as the tarot to read. They are symbols, ancient and unknown in origin, not pretty little colored images on a deck of cards. The best way to work with runes is to learn their general meaning, and allow them to expand their knowledge to you over time.
Scrying
Tumblr media
Scrying is another popular form of divination that uses a smooth, reflective surface in order to “See” images within the depths. Most commonly, crystal balls, black mirrors, and bowls of water are used.
This form of divination is difficult to master, and takes tremendous patience. Thus, I will not be able to go into further detail about this at present.
Osteomancy
Tumblr media
“Throwing bones” as it were. I’ve had more time to learn a little bit more about this, and I have a very basic understanding of how this form of divination works.
Osteomancy uses bones, preferably from small animals, as well as other shells, beads, and curios collective known as the “bones” thrown out onto a cloth to divine the future. Depending on where the bones land, the diviner is then able to use their meaning to paint a picture of the quarents future, past, and present.
I’ve read a few blog posts about this form, and it seems that, most commonly, osteomancers use what is known as “animism” the idea that everything has a spirit and is alive, in order to divine. While this may or may not be true, I believe that bone throwing employs the use to psychometry in order to decipher the bones.
Which brings me to my last point…
Psychometry
Psychometry is a powerful way to exercise your “Psychic muscles”, but it also takes a lot of patience to learn. Psychometry refers to the latent or inherent or learned ability to perceive residual information off of objects and/or people, usually by touch.
Psychometry is best practiced in one of two ways.
Collect various, preferably older items, such as necklaces, pocket watches, other small antiques, wood, shells, etc. Place all of the items under a cloth or under a bowl and then shuffle them around, making sure that you shuffle long enough for you to have no way of knowing where each item is. You then place your hand over the object, fell its energy, and try and divine what the object is. It’ll take time, but your accuracy will vastly improve, and you’ll find that other esoteric things come to you easily.
Find random objects such as old building bricks, signs, lampposts, antiques, etc. and place your hand on them. Close your eyes, and try to sense the object. See all of the memories that it houses within. Who did it belong to? What has it witnessed? Where did it come from? Eventually, you’ll begin to gain an understanding of the objects around you even without needing to touch them and close your eyes. Then, eventually, you’ll be able to divine a person’s past, present, and future using the same exact method, giving you yet another tool in your divinatory arsenal.
There are, of course, many MANY other methods that I missed. The ones I mentioned above are simply the ones that I personally have, so far, dabbled in. The tarot, of course, is my strongest practice, but others are working their way up there as well.
Short list of other divination practices:
Tesseomancy- Tea leaf reading
Pyromancy- Fire scrying
Lithomancy- Stone throwing
Pendulum- Divining with a heavy, pointed object on a chain
Numerology- Divining with numbers
Astrology- Divining using the stars and their alignments
Automatic writing/Drawing- Divining by closing your eyes and allowing your subconscious mind to write/draw

reminder:
tarot cards have set meanings, yes, but each deck has different depictions that change the meaning slightly (colors, images, directions, etc. can change the way it is interpreted), and your intuition should influence the reading. your first interpretation of the cards is what your gut is telling you. trust it. there are many ways to interpret any set of cards you draw, so listen to that little voice in your head. it knows best.

✨Yes/No Tarot tips✨
Tumblr media
Here are some ideas to help you answer those pesky Yes/No questions using Tarot. These are just ways that I’ve found work for me and Yes/No card interpretations that have always given me the answers I seek. Sometimes, this varies from reader to reader, so use this as a springboard to find out what works for you!
If you pull a Yes card in reverse, it could indicate a “Yes, BUT…” or a “Yes, IF…”. You’ll need to understand what each card means in reverse to determine the caveat for a reversed Yes card.
Pay attention to the positive meanings for each No card. Sometimes, things aren’t as clear cut as a simple No. Sometimes, it becomes a “No, but…” and gives you clues about how you can change your No into a Yes.
If you pull a Maybe card, you can often get a feel for your options either way by drawing additional cards to go on either side. For example: Two of Swords is a Maybe card and often represents a difficult choice between two options. You can draw two cards to set on either side of this card that represent the two choices and their pros and cons.
YES
Major Arcana: Fool, Magician, High Priestess, Emperor, Empress, Lovers, Chariot, Strength, Hermit, Star, Sun, Judgement, World
Cups: Ace, two, three, six, nine, ten, page, knight, queen, king
Pentacles: Ace, three, six, eight, nine, ten, page, knight, queen, king
Swords: Ace, page, knight
Wands: Ace, two, three, four, six, eight, page, knight, queen, king
NO
Major Arcana: Death, Devil, Tower, Moon
Cups: Five, eight
Pentacles: Four, five
Swords: Three, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten
Wands: Five, seven, ten
MAYBE
Major Arcana: Hierophant, Justice, Hanged Man, Wheel of Fortune, Temperance
Cups: Four, seven
Pentacles: Two, seven
Swords: Two, four, queen, king
Wands: Nine

Stop Learning Tarot Cards Like Flash Cards (You’re Better Than That)
One thing I’ve noticed as I’ve started teaching tarot cards to other people is that they have a tendency to think that every card has an individual meaning and it is their duty to memorize 78 complex sets of meanings before they can begin reading for others.
That’s simply not true.
It’s also incredibly inefficient and totally kneecaps you when you move on to learn another deck (and try memorizing ANOTHER 78 complex sets of meanings). Cards exist in relation to one another. Understanding those relationships lets you remember meanings quicker, better understand how cards in a spread might be connected, and give much smoother readings.
If you’re learning Tarot for the first time or looking to bush up, here’s my advice after reading cards for 10 years. Please, learn from my mistakes.  Tarot is a language
In the same way you learn letters and string them into words and then string words into sentences to communicate, tarot is a language you learn so your intuition can communicate more fully with you and others. And like a language, it’s often best to start with the phrases that you’ll use the most.
Practice: Go through your deck and pick out no more than 12 cards that are really calling to you and look up those meanings. Write them down if you’re up for it. Go through your deck and pick out no more than 12 cards that give you a feeling of unease and do the same. Notice any reoccurring symbols?
 Tarot is a story
How you understand that story may vary on your tradition, your experience level, your aims. Most standard Tarot decks follow the Fool’s Journey through the Major Arcana as he becomes more skilled and then more enlightened. A similar pattern can be seen in each of the suits. The Court Cards are less narrative in my opinion but a similar progression can be seen.
Practice: Take out each of the suits one at a time and lay them out in a row. Read the meanings of each card and see how the story progresses. Write down a summary. Do the same with each of other suits’ courts and the major arcana.
Tarot is a system
You aren’t fluent until you know the language well enough to speak smoothly and in most situations. Similarly, it takes understanding Tarot at a high level to give the best quality readings and read without a book. No card exists in isolation and just like when they show up in a reading, you must read them in relation to the rest of the spread - it helps a lot to know them in relation to the rest of the deck.
Tumblr media
Practice: Lay every card in your deck out like this (pardon my bad MSPaint job). Major Arcana up top and Court Cards off to the right and all the numbers lined up with the Fool and World left hanging. Pick one of the cards that resonated with you in the first exercise and look at how it relates to all the other cards in the deck. If it’s the 8 of Pentacles, what do the other 8′s look like and speak to? What do 8 (Strength) and 18 (the Moon) in the Major Arcana connect to it (if at all)? How does it relate to the rest of the story of the Pentacles?  Hope this helps! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Given that evidence suggests all extant forms of cartomancy began as card games and were only later adapted as tools for divination, doing readings with your Pokémon cards is really just respecting the history and traditions of the practice.

Daily reading: 8.5.21
Deck: Jane Austen
Spread: past, present, future
Question: Overall life trajectory
Meaning:
Past: 4 of cups - contemplation. As a child I spent a lot of time with myself and inside my own head and struggled with understanding the people around me, preferring to find comfort in books.
Present: 9 of swords - anxiety. I worry too much and need to take time to find the positives in my life - there’s no need for the levels of anxiety I currently experience.
Future: queen of cups - mystery. The next steps are either hidden from me or are in a direction I haven’t explored yet. There’s more routes I can take that I may find or may find me.
