Once the flat pieces get stuck together, nobody can pry them apart again. Not even Laurel’s mama, and she’s super strong – Laurel can tell by how easily mama lifts up mom right now. Mom squeals, and mama tries to swipe the knife mom used for the broccoli, but mom’s quicker.

“You’re not using that on the Legos.” Mom tries to sound stern, but even with her back turned, Laurel can tell she’s smiling.

“Sorry, sweetheart.” Mama shrugs as she settles on the kitchen floor again, but Laurel doesn’t mind – she knows that some things are just meant to be together.
