God there's something about the idea that Hector was wearing Achilles's old armor when he faced him to die. when Achilles saw Hector he saw a mirror of himself, and he knew exactly where to aim

#ough #fun fact when we read this part in my Ancient Greek class I was Uncomfy #cuz it’s like really graphic in the text #Achilles stabs Hektor in the throat not enough to kill him immediately #but enough that Hektor can still speak #and it grossed me out #there are a lot of deaths in The Iliad but a lot of them are random soldiers #but the text takes the time to say ‘this was this guy from this place’ #and you realize that they had an entire life and probably a family back home #the iliad #history #mythology
