current plans are somewhere along 'work on this on the backburner' due to the fact i have a national competition and stuff in jan, and that'll be a workload but i'd love to at least get a demo out by the end of the year, or failing that have the bones of one completed around that time. with work, school, & extracurriculars, hobbies are incresingly important as a distraction but by the time you get to 'em it's burnout city, baby !! if anyone's reading this send in character asks <3 might reblog a few ask lists, who knows !!

ok with ro intros out of the way (since i don't know if i'll do intros for important side characters just yet) time to bust out the brainrot. first tarot cards, then it's the flower language and you are NOT ready for the flower language

i could really go on with some of these (especially m and angel, probably achlys too) but then i'd get into hard spoiler territory and i'd rather prefer to avoid that before the game comes out

angel - the tower

UPRIGHT: Sudden change, upheaval, chaos, revelation, awakening

REVERSED: Personal transformation, fear of change, averting disaster

angel's someone who is quite literally made to embody that unpredictable future. it'd make sense that the card that resonates with them the most is the one about sudden change. while they do tend to place a lot of emphasis on that 'catastrophic change' aspect, the paths they tend to lead people down are a lot more boring than that. closer to a series of coincidences, leading to a breakthrough or a revelation or something that was 'meant to be'.

i don't know how well 'fesr of change' works with their personal thing since they're someone who pbysically can't have a sense of status quo without breaking out in hives, but there are some things that are comfortable constants. losing those woild count as fear of change, right?

achlys - death (sorry, but it fits)

UPRIGHT: Endings, change, transformation, transition

REVERSED: Resistance to change, personal transformation, inner purging

achlys is someone else i think that could fit the hierophant for very different reasons to the others, but death is their calling and thus here we are. achlys, no matter how steadfast and steady they may seem, is ultimately someone who can't stand stagnation. routine is comfortable but there's a point it corsses into bboredom and soon enough routine is outdated. times change, and they must change alongside them.

it's only fair that they get some sort of control over that sort of thing now. death usually takes a much more backseat rolee to everything, but sitting there and just watching everything happen- being content to leave them as they are just... wasn't right.

esme - the moon

UPRIGHT: Illusion, fear, anxiety, subconscious, intuition

REVERSED: Release of fear, repressed emotion, inner confusion

i think esme would work with the star as well but lack of faith and disconnect aren't quite as applicable to them. esme's a classic case of stuck between two worlds--what they know, and what they're more comfortable in. the heavens weren't the kindest to them and they carry a lot of self doubt because of that, and those jitters are very hard to shake, whether you're mortal or semi-immortal and being a glorified receptionist.

personally the moon as a celestial body has some very fun symbolism especially with some of the other stuff that's going on, reflecting the light cast at it with a much more muted glow. fun fact angels represent stars which is why the star was so close to being their card

ama - the devil

UPRIGHT: Shadow self, attachment, addiction, restriction, sexuality

REVERSED: Releasing limiting beliefs, exploring dark thoughts, detachment

i admit. this may be another one where i am doing a tiny teensy weensy bit of cheating--make the succubus the card that represents dark desires and sexuality. but hear me out ama is an unstable person. her relationships are fragile but the one thing that's been constant is her ability to bring out another side of people, and that is something that she takes immense pride in.

i'm going to be very honest i think this is a bit of a stretch but ama's other closest card was the lovers and that was a bit harder to explain but i think you. get what i mean. it was really closer to just the reversed value but i like to challenge myself and make upright and reversed fit.

vivi - the magician

UPRIGHT: Manifestation, resourcefulness, power, inspired action

REVERSED: Manipulation, poor planning, untapped talents

vivi's been described as 'ruthlessly efficient' and i think that really represents the spirit of this card when it's supposed to embody one person. she's not super manipulative, but she's got enough charisma to know what people want to hear when she needs them to do one thing or another. willing to do whatever it takes to make an extra buck, she'll use all that's available to her.

vivi's very determined but she doesn't tunnel-vision, a strength that's served her way better than you might think it has.

...i might also want to see her in a magician's outfit. i think she'd rock it.

ailbhe - the world

UPRIGHT: Completion, integration, accomplishment, travel

REVERSED: Seeking personal closure, short-cuts, delays

while as usual these are very simplistic definitions compared to the broad way this card can be interpreted, i think ailbhe fits very well with this card for a lot of reasons i can't mention but also because her whole thing is travel and self-discovery, passions reignited and all that jazz. ailbhe's not necessarily the ''most' forward-thinking, but out of everyone it's the most likely to have a reasonable plan for the future.

sure, it might not be the best way to do things if the motto is 'just keep going' but the destination and the journey are equally important and why not treat them as such? ailbhe's a very fufilled person but that doesn't mean there wasn't a lot of personal development to get there.

rahley - the hierophant

UPRIGHT: Spiritual wisdom, religious beliefs, conformity, tradition, institutions

REVERSED: Personal beliefs, freedom, challenging the status quo

i think m and rahley could very easily switch because at heart they're quite similar people but ultimately i felt that the hierophant fit rahley better, even if religious icanography is really more m's thing. rahley's very obviously someone by-the-book, someone who finds comfort in the logic and structure of the scientific world despite all fo the unknowns, because even unknowns follow some set of logic, no matter how absurd it may seem.

rahley as a person follows her own personal beliefs, at this point. structure and order are incredibly valuable to her but she wants at least a 50% share in that sort of thing. she knows what works for her best, has for a long time now. even if that's inconvenient to others, so be it.

m - the chariot

UPRIGHT: Control, willpower, success, action, determination

REVERSED: Self-discipline, opposition, lack of direction

m's always going to be a very driven person and i think as the only other resident dead person who's so intimately entangled in the story they serve as a . i guess a bastion of that sort of thing. y'know despite having passed on they're still here, still trying to help with a grin and a smile.

m's also gullible if you know what buttons to press and thus they can be incredibly frazzled behind the driver's seat. someone i knew compared them to an f1 racer, which isn't too far off. it doesn't matter how panicked the driver is, that car is going fast and you need to make a confident choice before the world makes one for you.

BLINDING STAR ...

... BRIGHT. that's really the only way to describe m, someone so infectiously cheerful that it's hard to feel anything other than shared joy or simmering annoyance. m is very much aware that they're not everyone's cup of tea but that sounds like a challenge, thank you very much and m is not into losing challenges. they weren't a national champion for absolutely nothing. and if it becomes a war of attrition m will gather up any scrap of determination they can and wear down the other side bit by bit.

... THEY seem at least a little bit disconnected from their own fate, though if you're so used to being dead there's really nothing you can do other than get used to it. they're the only other person you're around that can truly empathise with that fact, so... take what you can get, while you're here.

APPEARANCE ...

m's pretty short, 5'3-5'5 range, but the way they carry themselves makes it fairly clear how eager they were about their previous profession of 'contact sport champ'. they're lean, with pale skin almost always covered in some sort of mysterious bruising.

m has dyed lavender hair that reaches halfway down their back, tied into twin braids (fem) or just below their ears (masc). no matter how much they try to dye it, their cool black roots are coming in and that's like, not cool. they have wide icy blue eyes that seem just a little too big for their face at times.

m's partial to hoodies over crop tops and maybe a bit of fishnet, if they've got the patience to put it on in the morning. they wear a skirt and kneepads- but not a helmet or elbowpads because those are for 'people that aren't heely masters'. they wear heelys everywhere. their favourtie colours are purple and blue and it really shows, since their whole ensembe is a combination of those two, with accents of black, white and pink.

UNBRIDLED FASCINATION ...

... EVEN though she was hired to do some very specific and not-so top-secret work, rahley seems to be dead on her feet. maybe that's got some sort of impact on her bluntness and readiness to point out some mental facet of yours. that's probably wishful thinking.

... SHE'S unflinchingly curious, rahley has more than enough ability to chase down the answer to any elusive question and move on within a week. she's almost constantly holed away doing some sort of research. drag her out every once in a while. she won't thank you, but she'll be grateful nonetheless. she might say something about endorphins and seretonin. getting her talking properly, while not a hard feat, yields a usually very enlightening and productive comversation.

wiry. not overly athletic but also she very clearly does not take care of herself enough, taller around 5'9 or so. brown skin with one or two chemical burns around her hands.

rahley's eyes can really only be described as piercing. she really does look at almost everyone like they're an unseen variable, and the way the amber glints in the light makes her veer towards menacing. coupling that with long messy black hair with grey streaks (most likely due to dye, thougb stress is also probable), she's not the most approachable.

rahley dresses down a lot of the time, random shirts that haven't been washed in a week and black slacks under a white lab coat that also has questionable hygiene standards. it's honestly a wonder she hasn't tested herself for anything at this point- oh wait she has. the lab coat never gets taken off. maybe it gets changed, you can't tell.

... REST and relaxation is a very odd thing to look for in the underworld. most people tend to seek a purpose while they're down here, even if they happen to be one of the very rare tourists the underworld attracts. ailbhe takes a very laid-back approach to how it tackles anything it finds itself in the middle of. it's not one of the people hired for one reason or another, nor is it dead, but it can't really just... leave, can it? that'd be a waste of the chance to explore this place before ending up here forever.

... STILL, it's clear ailbhe is restless. she's not used to being in one place for so long, and while yes it's nice to be here with the people she loves, it does lose its lustre a bit when you're the only one not doing anything. as such, she's picked up a lot of odd jobs, from helping the mechanic as a sort of kindred spirit, to working at a very questionable shop and just acting as a slightly more corporeal tour guide when m is occupied. it's a hustle.

ailbhe's somewhere between chubby and muscular, average-ish height at 5'6, 5'8 ish. something to note about her appearance is that her left leg is a prosthetic from about halfway down the thigh, black, slightly beaten metal. her left arm also seems to ahve some pretty nasty burn scars, but they've healed fairly well.

its hair, split-dyed between dark navy and teal, is in thick locs, usually pulled up and away in a ponytail. its eyes are brown and almond-shaped.

ailbhe's clothes are made for function over fashion, so while it's common to see it in a tank top, loose-fitting pants and a bomber jacket with more pins than threads, it's just as common for the pants and jacket to be replaced with coveralls bursting with tools and saturated with oil.

TO say vivi is willing to do anything for money is a bit misleading. she'd do a lot of things for money, and she'd either find a loophole around it or do it with a dignity that makes it hard to criticise her. she's just one of those people, unflinching no matter what situations they enter into. if she's gotten that far, it's fair to say she's probably already weighed all the possibilities etc etc.

... FOR those who are into domineering women in suits vivi should be a dream come true and she knows this appeal quite intimately. she's not sugar mommy territory, but give her twenty/thirty years and you might have a different answer to that. or she'll just be at the top of some nameless fortune 500 that offshores all of their assets. it's a coinflip.

... AMA is nothing short of a menace, as plainly and simply as one can put it. she flirts relentlessly and she's not afraid to escalate that if someone seems receptive to it. whether that's an obligation she goes through to stay alive or something they enjoy seperately is a moot point when they make the most of it anyways. trying to put a name or a boundary on her existence is usually met with some variation of a bondage joke, so commern at your own risk(?).

... FUN and personal enjoyment seems to be the name of the game when ama is involved, and while saying they're a 'thrillseeker' would be a bit of an exaggeration, they wouldn't shy away from an opportunity if it presented itself. ama's here for a good time and it's already pretty solidified she'll be here for a long time. why bother getting weighed down by worries?

ama has tanned skin, around 5'3 or so. she's pretty, unfairly so, though some of that could just be how comfortable she seems with herself on the whole. or it's something to do with hr literally being a succubus. she's just got a magnetism about her.

they have silver hair that's just about chin length, which they claim is 'just long enough for pulling', and light lavender eyes that sit between purple and pink. i think they wear fun makeup but i have no clue what they'd wear.

she dresses down, usually in a band or cropped t-shirt, sweatpants etc. it's highly debatable if the band shirts are borrowed or not from their roomate. if she's in the office though you can bet she's not passing up the opportunity to wear a pencil skirt.

... WHERE does one begin on the subject of achlys? while it would be easy to assume they serve as a sort of ruler over the underworld—or at the very least, this part of the underworld, that's a little off. they hold power, but that isn't something brought about as a consequence of their birth. rather, it's a nearly palpable mixture of respect and fear. it's quite simply a coincidence that they also happen to be 'hell's poster child'.

... IN almost any situation, they're a confident and capable leader with an eye for the unexpected. standoffish is an understatement at the best of times, but they don't exactly advertise themselves as a force of personality. they're callous and uncaring at times and quietly understanding at others. if you're around them long enough to see a pattern in their behaviour it's fairly easy to expect your soul will be passing on soon enough, before any use could be made of that information.

HEAVEN-SENT ...

... ON the occasion they add pictures in dictionaries, then esme's face would be next to the defintion of 'nervous'. it's not intentional, but being a celestial being thrust into a world more than 6 feet under and then being buried under paperwork is a daunting task, to say the least. even if they were one of heaven's best or luckiest of soldiers, it would still be an uphill battle. when you lose the cosmic lottery and get pulled for a desk job in hell, there's not much you can do other than grin and bear it, is there?

... TO be a bit kinder to them, they do their work well. they're a healer at heart, and if that manifests as healing the truly gaping wound of the deficit in administrative staff, then so be it! after a string of incidents, they've been left to fend for themselves in this wasteland of paperwork. it's tough going. someone should check up on them to make sure they're not doing too much overtime.

5'1 with a lithe frame. time spent sitting at a desk job hasn't done them any favours, but esme never took well to the usual battle training. brown skin with a smattering of freckles all over their body, but mostly on their cheeks and arms. they do have a few scars here and there, but they're fairly minor.

short, messy white hair that reaches just past their chin, surrounding large heterochromatic eyes--blue and yellow. a shimmering halo floats above their head, and completing the image is a set of medium white wings, not dissimilar to those of a seagull.

tends to wear casual clothes; shirts and cardigans and flowing skirts that reach the floor.

FAITHLESS DIVINITY ...

... IF you're in the underworld long enough, there's a high chance you'll stumble across the resident wayward traveller. though their carefree manner doesn't quite betray it, their job is tirelessly righting any minor or major wrongs in whatever world needs it the most. they always return 'home' though, a fact they're not shy about admitting is just a little pathetic in their opinion.

... IT'S not often wise to follow one's heart when it leads down roads paved in destruction, but angel doesn't need to heed the writing on the wall when their judgement is sound, in the end. fate is cruel. that much is clear, and angel is the first to support that fact. claiming it's all a job is one thing, but their work never ends. and thus, their nature will never change.

tanned skin covered in a littany of more scars than one person should have, angel would cut an imposing figure if it weren't for the lacksidasical way they carry themselves. they stand at 5'7, but their shoes always add an inch or two to that.

they have bright red hair that falls to their shoulders when unbound, usually kept in a low ponytail over one shoulder, as well as upturned slate grey eyes.
