In general when it comes to things that were apparently cut from Ed and Stede's scenes in s2, I often feel that I would've agreed with the decision to cut them out even if it weren't for the episodes getting cut down the way they were. A prime example is the bts photo we have of a take where Ed made his bride cake topper push over Stede's and knock it around a bit; while his anger is 100% understandable, keeping that in would've undercut the eternally gentle love Ed has for Stede. A kiss during the mermaid scene is along the same lines for me; the fact that the scene cuts before Ed can touch or kiss Stede makes their real kiss more impactful. I don't mourn that Ed tenderly touching Stede's face underwater isn't in the final cut.

However I think Stede asking if he can call Ed his boyfriend and Ed saying "actually I fucking love it" is canon to me. I wish it had stayed in the final cut. It's so important to me actually that they finally feel able to define their relationship on their own terms and it feels so easy and joyful for both of them.
