The Reading Rush 2020 Day 3 I watched Charlotte's Web recently and was reminded of the fact that I have not read the book it is based on in eons. The third prompt, that of reading a book that inspired a movie that you have already seen seemed to be perfect for it. The Reading Rush 2020 Day 2 For the second prompt, Read a book with a title starting with "The", I selected The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow by Katherine Woodfine, the first book in a series of middle-grade books called The Sinclair's Mysteries. I have been wanting to listen to more audiobooks from the RB Digital subscription that is part of my British Library membership. I decided to randomly select one of the audiobooks for the prompt to "Read the first book you touch" and ended up picking the second book in this series. It made sense therefore to read this one first and I am glad I did. This one conveniently covers a lot of prompts. I am using this book for the prompt to "read a book with a cover that matches your birthstone". One of my birthstones is Aquamarine and though the cover looks almost white in the photo, it is a very pretty light blue in person. My most-anticipated #readathon this year has been the second series of #Believathon. I am so thankful to Gavin of @gavgav7 for organizing such a fabulously fun readathon. It has been great reading some of my old favourites and learning about new books, many of which have become new favourites. April has been a month of fun readathons, and the last one I took part in was the #BnBClassicsReadathon hosted by @booksnbeyondbox As usual, I selected way more books than I could possibly read during the actual readathon but am going to definitely continue even after. The books I selected are 👩 Villette by Charlotte Brontë 🛶 The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare 🎶 The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux 🐰 Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll 🎩 Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll 👩‍🦰 Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery 🌍 Brave New World by Aldous Huxley . . . The books I completed out of these are Villette - I loved reading this on a kindle reader as I could translate the many French passages easily, which was very helpful as I have quite forgotten the little bit of the language that I knew ☺️. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Audible has made the Scarlett Johansson narrated version available to all on their Stories page. I enjoyed it greatly and am going to look for other audiobooks narrated by her. The Phantom of the Opera - I am in the middle of this. Having watched the 25th anniversary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's show on YouTube over the weekend, I was inspired to add this to my list. . . . Did you take part in the readathon? The career that had me most interested in the Magical Readathon hosted by G of @book_roast is that of the Mind Medic. I have to read 8 books towards it (Reading list coming next). I am also reading for two of the extra courses - Learn to Operate Locomotive Trains & Merpeople Linguistics. Oh, how overjoyed my younger self would have been... One of my ambitions when I was 7 or 8 was to be the engine driver of the Toy Train at Cubbon Park here in Bangalore. Sadly, I am quite a horrible driver of all things mechanical. This is my first time taking part in the Magical Readathon and it very apt as it is with Book 3, The Prisoner of Azkaban, that I first got acquainted with the world of Harry Potter. I discovered this reading challenge last year when I came upon the YouTube channel of the lovely G at @book_roast I was in awe of the amount of effort she put into creating not only the actual challenge but also the documents accompanying it. I decided at that time that I was definitely going to take part in the next one. I am in love with the new illustrated versions and am collecting all of them as they release. While I love the movies, somehow I find that the characters as drawn in these are closer to what I imagined them to be when I first encountered the books.
