My experience of bullying at school reminds me a little of Severus, a girl called me stupid, then she tried to chase me but I responded with an insult, then she started crying and went to the prefect, who forced me to apologize to whoever I met offended first.
Often the victims themselves are made to apologize in situations like this. The perpetrators future is usually seen as the thing to protect unfortunately. Iā€™m sorry you were treated such a way. I think these things help us to relate to Severus in feeling alone and discarded, or feeling like no one cares how you feel.

Anyone else think of Severus when watching The Glory? It made me feel so deeply, as a victim of severe bullying and SA I couldnā€™t help but cry as to how much I related to that the similarities between Severus and Moon Dong-eun; James Potter and Park Yeon-Jin- I was really touched and glad that they took the issue seriously and had such compassion for those who suffer such abuse. If anyone needs to talk about similar experiences anonymous is on and my ask box is always open. My big will always be a safe place for those that have suffered such abuse.

I will never get over the fact that Lily didn't even ask Severus for his side of the story for Sirius' prank / attempted murder through a uncontrollable Lupin transformed into a wolf. Lily doesn't even worry about Severus, telling him outright that he should be grateful for James' intervention, trusting people more than a version of her friend she's known since she was little. Then having the nerve to say that at least the Marauders don't use black magic... Tell me Lily, magic that isn't black magic is free from any danger ? Hanging someone upside down while smothering them with soap and pulling down their underwear in front of everyone, is that less serious just because it's not black magic ? No, but seriously... I have nothing against the fact that Lily wasn't a fountain of virtue, but in reality, she was just downright an asshole. We're talking about a girl who smiled at Severus' humiliation and took the opportunity when he insulted her, clearly without meaning it, after a horrible moment, to verbally humiliate him and give up their friendship.

That awkward moment when Dudley Dursley actually displays evidence of character growth and maturity, then James Potter supposedly did.

It continues to shock me how much the Snaters really don't know the canon.
First, Lily never rejected Severus the two of them have been best friends for years. The one pestering Lily to go out with him was James.
Second, the scene where Snape goes to Godric's Hollow doesn't exist in the book, it's just an addition in the movie to make everything more dramatic. (If we want to consider movie scenes canon then most of the accusations made don't exist since they don't happen. These people are really too confused) And then what? Or if we take the scene from the film at face value, Snape hugs the woman he loves instead of helping Harry, so what? This poor man was destroyed, can we leave him alone for two seconds to cry?

Snape != Harry
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry was sorted into the good house.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry had two best friends who always came back or never left him even when he treated them like dirt and lashed out at them.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry had adults who loved and cared about him. Even Snape who disliked him, was his personal dark guardian angel.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry almost always put Draco in his place. You can count on one hand the number of times Draco overpowered him. Harry nearly killed him once.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry's fights with Draco were usually even 3vs3. Arguably, Draco was the one outnumbered in the book 4 and 5 group assaults on the train.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry came from a wealthy family and his godfather left him even more dough. Harry was set for life.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry got to live his adult life in peace and have a wonderful family with the girl he loved.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Hermione/Ron would have hexed Draco to smithereens if Draco sexually assaulted Harry the way James did Snape. Hermione/Ron would not smile either.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry did not have to witness Hermione or Ginny get with Draco.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry always saw Hogwarts as his home and his happy place. Hogwarts is where Snape had his worst memory.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry and Draco ended the series being civil. Unlike Remus and Sirius who still had hate boners for Snape in their thirties.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Snape had to do a profession he was not suited for nor he liked for his mission. Harry was a renowned Auror respected by the wizarding world.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Harry had a surrogate family who loved him dearly and readily accepted him.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Snape was surrounded by pureblood supremacists in school as a disadvantaged mudblood half-blood.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse -
Snape never truly had a safe place where he felt loved. School and home were hell.
Snape and Harry both had bad childhoods. Snape has no excuse!

Letā€˜s talk about how Remus Lupin.
Humiliated his colleague.
Who he and his friends had already tormented for years before that.
Who was almost murdered by his friends.
The man who kept his mouth shut for years and did not tell anyone about Remus true nature.
Eventhough he almost died because of it.
The man who never receieved a single fucking apology.
Because, you know.
They were just silly teenage pranks.
Right?
Letā€˜s talk about how Remus Lupin humiliated his teenage bully victim once more as an adult by encouraging Neville to imagine him in his grandmothers clothing.
In front of the whole class.
Knowing fully well that not a day later every single student in the castle would have heard about it.
And laughed about it.
Letā€˜s talk about how fucking cruel Remus was towards Severus.
He did it deliberately.
Fully knowing what would happen.
For a laugh.
Just like in the good old days.

Haters be like ā€œSnape was just as bad, worse even than James, because he bullied students.ā€
Honestly, Snapeā€™s behaviour gets blown so out of proportion. Because other than verbal barbs and once threatening a toad, Snape didnā€™t really do anything. He didnā€™t put students in deliberate danger, didnā€™t hex students, didnā€™t assault anyone. Snape gives students detention and they have to clean. McGonagall gives students detention and they wind up in the Forbidden Forest!
One time, he threw a jar at Harry after Harry *checks notes* oh yeah, looked into Snapeā€™s memories without permission and witnessed his worst memory of being assaulted.
So no, I donā€™t want to hear the ā€œhe bullied studentsā€ argument. When in context, he was no worse than any other teacher and far worse had been done to him.

I'm very late to be jumping on the bandwagon, but I'm so confused that some people are surprised that Guillermo del Toro, a person who helped create
a film where the protagonists are sheltering in an orphanage that's run by Republican loyalists and being targeted by Francisco Franco's bombs,
a film where the antagonists are occult Nazis (and Rasputin) who want to unleash eldritch beings upon the world,
a film where the major antagonist is a sociopathic Falangist captain who is hunting the Spanish Maquis, either murders or is responsible for the deaths of most of the rest of the cast, and might just be more monstrous than the child-eating monster with eyes in its' hands,
a book trilogy and a television series where one of the major antagonists is a Nazi, we're shown the wholly unsympathetic reasons for how and why he became a Nazi, he repeatedly targets, torments and tortures one of the major protagonists because he despises him for being Jewish, and in the final act of the story the vampires take over at least North America and put all the humans in camps to be farmed,
a film where the major antagonist is a cruel Colonel in the American army in the 1960s who tortures and plans to vivisect the imprisoned Amphibian Man, and is defied and thwarted by a mute woman, a Black woman, a gay man and a Russian spy,
and now a film where the characters suffer under the Italian Fascist regime, a little boy is forcibly recruited into the army alongside other children because he'll make 'the perfect soldier' and Mussolini is outright mocked to his face,
hates fascism???
Now where did that come from?????
