Final Project Update

I am sorry to announce that the PMP will not be continuing.

We started this project at the very beginning of the pandemic, when all of us had a lot of time suddenly available to invest in such a large passion project. But now, most of us have had to return to school or work, and we no longer have the wealth of time we started with.

If I had unlimited time and energy, I would love to take one last shot at seeing the project through to completion. Unfortunately, I am not at all in a place in my life right now where that would be possible. I believe many of the original members have also moved on to other interests, so we no longer have the team we once did.

I would like to thank the Anon who recently sent us an ask about the project status (and apologize that I didn't respond to it directly; I saw the notification, but I think tumblr ate the ask). Due to the project's informal nature, there was never any official end to it, so a post was never made to announce its discontinuation. Although I'm sure this isn't the answer you were hoping to hear, I appreciate the opportunity to offer closure on the project's status, and I'm very sorry to all of you who were excited to see the finished project.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone on the PMP team! I'm really glad I got to meet you all and to share this experience with you. You are all amazing and talented people, and I wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavours!

Project Update - May 3, 2021

So, there's good news and bad news. The good news: we are not ending the project! The less good news: we weren't able to get enough people together to have a realistic chance of completing an entire animated movie.

Our compromise is that we will be creating one of our favourite scenes, affectionately nicknamed the Campfire Scene. It includes dialogue as well as a song, and is more or less able to stand on its own without much context, so we figured it would be a good scene for us to focus on.

We'd also like to thank and congratulate everyone who applied! We look forward to meeting and working with you!

Portal Movie Project is now accepting applications for new members!

As can be expected of such a large passion project, there is frequent membership turnover, since people may find they no longer have the time or energy to commit to such a large undertaking. With this in mind, we have decided to open up applications for new project members! Details are below the cut, along with the link to apply.

Please note that our current membership is rather low, so the status of the project is uncertain. We feel it is only fair to let you know in advance that if there are not enough new members, we may have to cancel the project. Once applications close, we will make a post to let you know whether or not we will be continuing with the project, and what the next steps will be from there.

The deadline to apply is April 29th, 2021. Please note that we cannot offer any monetary compensation for participation in this project.

Basic application requirements:

You must be at least 15 years old

You must have discord and you must agree to the server rules (listed below). It is ideal if members can join discord calls, but this is not required.

The minimum time commitment is at least four hours per month, but obviously the project will take forever if that's all anyone can commit, so ideally we'd like people who can commit to several hours a few days each week.

You must be able to provide a significant contribution to one of the following teams: concept art, backgrounds, colours, scriptwriting, script editing, songwriting, song composition, singing, music production, voice acting, storyboarding, animation, or video/audio editing. Teams in bold are especially in need of new members, but there are positions available in all of these areas.

We are also looking for at least one team leader for most of these teams. Team leaders have knowledge in one of the areas listed above, but perform more leadership, motivation, and time management tasks.

Whether or not you're a team leader, we would like people who can work well with in a team, and who can typically get tasks done on their own by an established deadline.

It is also ideal if you are familiar with google drive, along with any software that may be necessary for the role(s) you are applying for.

Project Server Rules:

No bigotry (eg. homophobia, racism, transphobia, ableism, sexism, etc.)

No NSFW content (there are minors working on this project)

Try to avoid any potentially triggering topics. If they do come up, spoiler them and provide a content warning.

This project is not the place for fandom discourse. Unless it relates directly to the project, please keep discourse out of the server. Contact mods if a conflict is impacting your ability to work well with the rest of the team.

Just generally try to be respectful. There currently is not a strike system in place, and we hope that we won't have to implement one, but we will if it becomes necessary.

If you need to leave the project, please try to let us know. As this is a voluntary project, we understand if it becomes too much to take on, but it's helpful for us to know who is still on board so that we can apportion work effectively.

Movie Status Update - January 27, 2021

Hello! Progress has slowed once again now that we’re all back at school, but we’ve continued with making more character reference sheets and a few other small miscellaneous tasks. We are also starting the process of storyboarding the songs, so that will likely be our primary focus for the next few months.

How did it go?

How did it go?

RICK Well, it started with Her. The biggest, meanest AI in all of Aperture Science. Back when humans ran this place, they put Her in charge of everything. But She wanted more than that, She wanted to control those humans. And She tried to hurt ‘em every chance She got.

But it wasn’t that simple. She tricked ‘em into giving Her pure poison, for an experiment, She said. And then one day, She snapped, and let that poison fly free. Let’s just say there’s a reason you don’t find humans here anymore.

WHEATLEY Well, that’s not entirely true, there were some humans left, right? And didn’t She just test and test them? Making them solve puzzles left and right, bloody cruel if you ask me! Of course, She had to put me of all people in charge of their stasis chambers. Didn’t even tell me how to manage them, seriously. Not that it matters. None of ‘em could get through the testing, anyway. Well, I mean, except... That one.

TURRETS (Singing) There’s an old story of someone who was unfazed Passed every test, and set the central core ablaze All her traps and all her trials They couldn’t pin her down The old queen has lost her throne And someone stole her crown

But this old story ends, nobody’s seen them since Some say they left this place, some say they never did Now we’re free from her old rule And we do as we please Now all of Aperture is ours Once she was brought down to her knees

CRAIG Fact: There is now a zero percent chance of GLADOS returning. However, contrary to popular belief, we have not in fact, lost our love of doing science. Reliable sources say nine out of ten robots are bored with their current life, now that testing has been canceled indefinitely. The fact core, the superior robot by a large margin, is perfectly fine with his life. Unlike the inferior Adventure core, who is also objectively bad at singing.

WHEATLEY (Singing) So now we sit around and do nothing all day Pushing buttons, never dreaming, never getting away All of us forgotten at the bottom of a well Somebody save me quickly from this scientific hell Just let me leave But no one leaves

WHEATLEY No way! I thought I’d checked all of them! How could I have missed that? I guess it’s just my luck.

This week we continued work on the music (both main songs and general soundtrack), as well as drafting more of the script. Some background art and references are also in the works.
