I’m reblogging this here for anyone still following this blog who isn’t following me over at seekingthelofty yet. Please give and share if you can!
My little sister, Abby, was born the year I graduated high school and I have played a huge role in her life ever since, practically assisting in raising her.   She is nearly twelve now, incredibly intelligent and loving, and was recently diagnosed with severe depression and ADHD, and she struggl…
Alright, so… I thought I owed you guys a little more than what I wrote up on gofundme…. Under the cut for sensitive information.
For a long time now, I’ve known Abby was facing a lot of issues; I tried desperately talking to our mother about it, I tried showing her better ways to cope with Abby’s emotional changes, tried to change the language she used when speaking to her, but to no avail.  Our mom is a capable, hardworking and loving woman, but that doesn’t change the fact that despite how much we love one another, my relationship with her is often toxic.  This is even worse for my sister for various reasons that I’m not wholly comfortable explaining.
They fight often and they fight hard and it’s obviously taking its toll on both of them, but much worse on my sister.  Late last year, when my sister in law was cleaning out Abby’s bedroom, we found a series of suicide notes written by Abby to me, my brother, our mom, and the family as a whole.  I don’t know what they said, as they seemed to disappear as quickly as my brother told me about them.  We tried to talk to Abby about it, but she refused to say anything to either one of us.  We didn’t forget about it, but all we could do was let it go.
And so it went on.  Their relationship carried on the same way, of course.  Nothing extreme came up again until just this past weekend.  My sister was already at my apartment with my roommate awaiting my return from work and she was supposed to stay the night with me again.  Just fifteen minutes before the end of my shift, my roommate texts me that Abby can’t stay.  Apparently Abby had been texting a friend of hers and told her friend that she had several sleeping pills with her and she was going to take them all at once.  The friend was upset and told her parents, who then called our mom.  My roommate confiscated both her phone - to see if the texts were real - and the medication.
I tried calling mom too, and I told her that this was a cause for alarm, that she needed to get her help NOW. Our brother had to see a psychologist and psychiatrist when he was a teenager, and here these issues were manifesting worse and worse in Abby so… I tried to tell her that it was time to stop being angry and to start getting scared, because we were going to lose one of the most precious people in both our lives if we didn’t do something about it.
Finally this week, she took Abby to see a psychologist, who diagnosed her with severe depression and ADHD and warned our mom to lock up all medications and weapons in the house, because Abby might give into a drastic impulse.
To say I’m terrified is an understatement.  And I know taking her to one concert is not a “fix”, it’s certainly not a “cure” if there is one for terrible sicknesses like this, but it might help.  It might keep the monsters at bay a little longer to know she has something like this to look forward to.  I appreciate anything and everything anyone can do, even if it’s as simple as a signal boost.  Any little bit will help.  Thank you.

Join Team Transcendentals for the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen, August 2 - 9.
So I know that this is super last minute as there is only one day left to register but Charlie and I have decided to participate in Misha Collin’s GISHWHES this year and it would be super awesome if some of our friends from tumblr would join our team.
From the GISHWHES Website:
"GISHWHES, obviously, is an acronym: The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. GISHWHES is difficult to pronounce and even more difficult to explain. It truly is the greatest scavenger hunt the world has ever seen. In 2012 it shattered two Guinness World Records: one for the largest scavenger hunt ever, with more than 14,000 participants from 69 countries and the second, for the most pledges to commit a Random Act of Kindness. We accomplished over 93,000 pledges in 94 countries! Last year we broke two more Guinness World Records: (1) the longest chain of safety pins – over 43,000 safety pins  creating a chain almost 2 kilometers long; and (2) we achieved the most hugs worldwide in 1 week – 108,121!
But that really doesn’t help explain what it is, now does it?
It’s basically a “game” where we present the players from all over the planet a long list of items to accomplish. Then people collectively in their respective teams divvy up and pursue these items, making incredible crazy art, performing wild things in public, and partaking in heart-warming community service projects. They receive “points” for every item they accomplish. To Join the Hunt just register on this website. You are then offered the opportunity to join as an individual, create a team (and invite others to join you) or join an existing team (if you think you may know someone else who’s participating). MANY people join as individuals. If you do join as an individual, at the end of registration we will assign 14 other teammates to your team from all over the world. You can also invite friends and even gift their registration fee. Teams will be a total of 15 players. If by the time registration ends, you have not filled your team to 15, we will assign others to your team.  This year the hunt will run for 7 days commencing on August 2 when we post THE LIST on the website. The list will include hundreds of items or actions that must be made, found or accomplished, and then photographed or filmed and uploaded to youtube or imgur with the link to the content submitted on our website. It sounds complicated but the Hunt website is easy to navigate and use.
Many of the participants claimed it was a life-changing experience that either pulled them out of their shell and completely changed their lives, or drove them insane.
Previous years’ items have ranged from “random kindness items” like “Take a picture of you hugging a War Veteran” or “…giving coats to a homeless shelter” to sublime items like “Take a picture of a stormtrooper cleaning a pool next to a sunbather” or “create a 2-foot tall seagull made entirely from sanitary napkins.” Whichever team receives the most points by scavenging the most items (quality counts!), will win an all-expense-paid trip to somewhere incredible.
Last year, the 15 members of winning team Vatican Cameos joined Misha Collins (the creator of GISHWHES) on a secret island near Vancouver, Canada. They rode a chartered seaplane and enjoyed a séance and a special Viking-related surprise…
Join us!”
This year’s prize is a trip to “King’s Landing” in Croatia and a pirate cruise headed up by Captain Misha Collins.
Registration is only $18.98 and all the proceeds go to charity. Participants can join any team regardless of location and it would be really cool if some of you would join us.
This is my first year participating and I’m super excited about it. Feel free to spread this around and invite your friends.
Just click the link to be taken to the registration page where you can find all the information including rules and regulations.

New blog is up and live. I'll probably leave this one up until Friday and periodically reblog this post so that anyone who wants to continue to follow me can see it but after that I'll be deleting this blog and it's side blogs and using seekingthelofty.
