Hello fellow artist! How about number 4?
hello! o7 'what defines your artistic style?' i HOPE there's a general animation-y-ness to my artwork. im always very happy if my artwork looks like knockoff concept art or like it could easily be animated hahaha
I try and be very thrifty with my lineart too ('why use many line when one does job') and sometimes that makes my art look very 'clean' so it's a tough balance between effortlessly ergonomic and keeping some life and charm in the piece i also really like a lot of vintage 50s / 60s illustration and design sensibilties so i think that creeps in a lot...mainly when im doing colour work (reusing very limited palettes) or prop/bg design whenever i do personal art i USUALLY use green and orange colourschemes OR purple/blue ones. I find it really hard to break out of these two schemes haha

'do you have a shameful art past?'
like every 10 year old (in the early 2000s on deviantart) i used to trace manga panels and colour them in lmao (so much one piece tracing LOL) and i used a lot of 'bases' on deviantart to make ref sheets for my crappy ocs. not sure if that's 'shameful' as learning to draw is SO tough that i think everyone references/traces/colour picks as a child or young teen in order to gain the vaguest foundation of 'knowledge' that they then can build on.
Colour picking (like recently...during photo studies) was literally how I made the power of mid-tone greys 'unlock' in my head despite being told countless times 'if you desaturate a colour it'll appear grey next to its more saturated chroma' it never clicked until I did some dirty colour picking and saw the pattern emerging countless times. 'hmm maybe those dang art books are right'

8, 10, and 13 :)
8: My favourite art I've ever done is all locked behind NDA's. I've drawn some really nice backgrounds for a show that will hopefully come ONE dayyy ;;; Otherwise...personal art...is probably this:
Tumblr media
It's quite old now but idk i just really like it...there's an interesting mixture of abstraction vs description within the piece.
If we're talking tf2 stuff it's probably this. I like the rendering style - how it feels 'rough' but rendered at the same time...and i drew some semi-nice hands for once in my life haha
Tumblr media
10: UMMM i'm very negative about my own work...I compare myself to others a lot which im my artistic red-flag lol. I did twig the other day though that I would've loved my own work when i was 16 SO I guess that's something :) I think when everything 'clicks' for me i can achieve some nice shape flows, abstraction of forms via lineart and some fun expressions 13: I already work in art! I'm a background artist for animation - currently working on a kids show for the BBC :) I've done a tiny bit of everything though including art direction, character design, art for card games, toy design etc In my past life I was also a vfx artist (mainly surfacing and lookdev). I'd love to work on a feature or game next or work as a concept artist buuut I'm happy poodling around in backgrounds for now.

see this is why I got tumblr was so I could follow awesome artists like you! also somehow this is the exact coloring style I’ve been trying to get down since I started doing digital art this year so I hope my art can look as good as yours someday :o !!!
ah thank you so much - that's really kind of you!! <3 i love colouring soooo much - it's definitely my favourite part of the process! A decade ago (RIP im old) it was really popular to take Disney colouring books and like...overly render the shit out of them. I did SO many of those as I just really really like colouring and rendering. I hate the drawing aspect really haha I wanted to study Geography at University and I always joked that my favourite part of geography were the maps / charts and 'colouring them in'....and then it clicked that I could just...do that haha
Keep at it with the digital art! o7 Study your favourite artists, films and photos! Keep your process simple and get out in nature! Nature is the best painter and has the best colours 🍀🍁🌿

hi! so, this might seem like a weird question, but i wanna start drawing characters from fandoms that i really like but i don't know how to combine that style with my own, so do you have any advice/strategies that might work? ty!! ^^ :]
It can be really tough to get started and daunting on deciding how much to be inspired art-wise by the source material or how to adapt your own art style to the source material! - Break your reference characters into basic shapes! This works really well as it allows you to not get too hung up on the style-specific details! shapes are translatable across all styles! - Doing screencap redraws can be useful if you're trying to find the characters 'voice’ in your own style. You'll have context, some nice posing / dynamics to reference and it takes a lot of the 'thinking' out of the piece so you can focus on raw drawing rather than the pressure of coming up with absolutely everything! - I think clarifying what it is about your own style that you love is key! I always call it your negotiables/non-negotiables. Is the way you draw eyes and noses killer? You love the way you construct faces? It could be a little more general ie: your use of varying shapes, lineweight or line of action! Once you've figured out your non-negotiables you can identify your negotiables! Does the fandom reference have really cool colours? There's no shame in folding that into your style! Does it have a really pleasing simple way of drawing the eyes? Incorporate that but keep the nice way that you draw ears or hands! Drawing is like have a big list of ingredients (your inspirations and references) and picking and choosing what you're going to use for each recipe (illustration...lol...okay bit of a tired metaphor but you get the idea) - Don't feel pressured to leap into a full finished illustration as your first drawing of a character! I think everyone does some secret heads-facing-left or 3/4 floating torsos in order to 'find' the character a little on the page The long of the short is that it’s practice! The more you draw, the more comfortable you'll get at combining the two and you’ll become more confident with what you see emerging on the page! hope this helps a bit! <3

have you always wanted to see me draw anything other than the same two characters i always draw? well now's your chance 😼 these are definitely biased towards the images i like to create but if you'd like a comic, a sketchpage of your character or some thumbnails from your favourite fic (etc) - dm me and we can always work something out! 🤘 i can draw ocs, fanart, animals, backgrounds, cars, furries uh anything really. these will be sfw only though!
PROCEDURE: - Message me via Tumblr DM! - Once we've both agreeded on the commission I will send an invoice (in GBP) for the full payment via PayPal - I'll show you a rough sketch so any desired changes can be made early in the process - Image will be finalised and sent to you for approval! - 1 round of edits to the final is included - any further changes may incur a cost dependent on the scope of the changes required - You'll receice the final high rez artwork (png + psd) via email or Dropbox link Thanks! <3
