Summary:
Betty had always hoped that Archie would be her soulmate. All the grown-ups talked about how the first time you kissed your soulmate, the word would explode into all the colors you hadn’t been able to see before. She dreamed of the day that would happen with Archie, the day she could look at him and know that he was supposed to be hers. But even in her youth, some part of her must have known that they weren’t destined to be together, despite their declarations of love and promises of marriage. She’d held off on kissing him as long as she could for this exact reason. When she eventually did - their lips barely brushing together while they were sitting under the sun in Archie’s backyard, the smell of Fred’s barbecue wafting over on the summer wind, the taste of strawberry lemonade fresh on Betty’s tongue - she kept her eyes squeezed shut for as long as she could afterwards. When she’d opened them, she’d been greeted with a tearful Archie, looking ever the same. He wasn’t her soulmate.
Betty struggles to find her place in the universe. Inspired by this post.
I'm way too proud of the fact that I have ruined Taylor Swift forever for a number of men. one of them was a Rep girlie. another was into folklore and Red. I once told someone that he was my Sweet Nothing and I was halfway lying because he was but only because I was in a specific and strange life situation where I felt like he was the only person who truly cared for me as a human being, but he had essentially manipulated me into believing that to be true. but regardless, all of them will spend the rest of their days living in fear, scared to hear Taylor Swift on the radio, or in a coffee shop, or in the car of a girl they're romancing.
“He lowered his head, and I felt his lips on mine. The world seemed to go silent and all I knew was the feel of his hand in mine as he drew me closer, and the warm press of his mouth.”
"Oh, it all starts with a quick look-see into someone's bag, and then it's a brisk peeka-rooni at our phone records, and before you can say "1984," the thought police are forcy-worcing you to bend and spread."
