I know the situation isn't that dire but I kinda feel like I'm at the end of my rope. if it comes to it and I can't make rent I can just move back in with mum and dad, I know I'm not going to die or anything, but I just. really don't want to have those conversations. probably just being dramatic about it but. aaaaaaaaaaaa.

You guys reblogged my post about my OCS so you asked for it >:)
Here’s Lord T. Emrys “Ducky” Montague II; also known as the unluckiest man in Faerie- sketches now and through the years.
•His original design was based on a Mandarin duck, hence the bright colors.
•His hair is composed of tiny, thin feather shafts, and move like a bird’s crest in response to his emotions. He dislikes that this gives others the ability to read him, and gels his hair down meticulously to prevent it.
•His father was a Wind Court Fae, and his mother was from the Sea Court. He was born without wings or gills, to the disappointment of both parents.
•He can’t swim, and hates the water, due to an incident in his childhood during which his mother attempted to find out if he would be able to survive in her court by holding him underwater, and almost drowned him.
•His favorite food is bread. Just plain bread.
•He enjoys mending, embroidery and creating clothes, and dreams of opening a tailor shop. This hobby remains mostly secret, as his parents and first fiancé discouraged “common work”.
•Despite being skilled with a needle, he is quite clumsy, and his disturbingly high pain tolerance often means that he overlooks injuries. His hands and arms are littered with tiny scars and burns from moments of carelessness. He is no longer allowed to operate a stove.
•He has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, and eventually becomes sober, with encouragement from his first spouse.
•He keeps a book of names from those who he has charmed into trusting him, each one a favor to be called in at any time- assurance that he’ll never end up alone.
•After he inherits his parents’ estate, he uses it to throw lavish parties that he rarely participates in; considering himself a sort of Gatsby and watching from the sidelines until finding someone gullible enough to fall for his charms.
•Despite being a massive flirt, he is usually disinterested in pursuing romantic connections, and it often takes him a long time to realize his own feelings toward a partner. He does not fall in love easily, but when he does, he falls hard. I would describe him best as demi/bi with a preference toward women, though there are exceptions (his partner in later years, Graeme, is a man)
•He hates his first name, Thaddeus, and uses the nickname “Ducky” as a method of endearing himself to people so they trust him more easily. Close friends and partners call him Emrys.
i can’t remember what else i wanted to write but i’ll add more later if i remember :)
Up next, i’ll probably post a couple doodles of his wife, Amalthea !!

The S1 Archives main staff was composed entirely of people who (at least partially) liked men. I choose to believe the OIAR will continue the trend of being equal but opposite to the Archives by having the entire S1 main staff like women.

I don’t post anything ever but I saw someone talk about Alice saying “at least it’s not both legs” and headcannoning Sam as an amputee and I’d like to put in my two cents

In all these years, I've never learned how to tag someone, so I have to come to you directly, to show you the tears on my cheeks because he's sitting so quietly, curled up, watching a world he'll never know through a tiny crack in the wall.
Thank you!
You know, it's a little odd. All of the pieces in this series are about isolation and escape--Icarus, Orpheus and Eurydice, Prometheus, and certainly the Minotaur. But A Crack in the Labyrinth came first, and more than any of the rest, it's about resignation. About having fought and scrabbled and clawed desperately and still...not having made it. Still being trapped inside, alone.
Tumblr media
And when I made it, I hadn't really intended to say anything more than that one piece, but I just couldn't leave it there. I had to give him the whole story--an innocent beginning, same as anyone. I couldn't leave the ending as it was written; I'd initially just intended to have the conclusion the myth gives him, slain by Theseus, but...if I'm going to say, "I'm the minotaur, monstrous and alone and told by the world that that is right and deserving," then I am also saying "you, who feels deeply for this, for whom this resonates, you are also the minotaur and we are monsters who deserve the ending that is written for us." And I...just can't bear to. There has to be hope.
So there is, very literally, light at the end of the labyrinth, one way or another.

Anyways, I used this song for that photoset on the clock app, but I think you would also enjoy it. Cow Boy, take us away.

ok. years have passed and we've had some distance, so i'm finally gonna take the leap of faith that tma fandom is finally ready to hear me on this. let's talk about tannins.
161 was the first tma episode i heard on early release, and i felt the bit where martin declines wine and cites tannins was pretty obvious in its implications. cool, got it, say no more.
imagine my surprise when i was one of maybe three people i saw read between the lines there, in a fandom famous for red stringing--a fandom that immediately caught the much less obvious thread of ignition sources in the same episode. i'll spell it out: alcohol is an issue for martin.
maybe it just felt obvious because addiction is a pet issue for me--as it is for jonny, who has said everything he writes is filtered through a lens of addiction. i don't know if that's due to his own experience or a loved one's, and i won't speculate; i also don't know if martin personally struggled with drinking or just avoids it for fear he would, but alcohol would fit what we know of his family. his dad walking out and his mum spiralling into bitter wallowing and verbal abuse? i'd bet one or both of them drank, yeah.
on a basic level martin tries to decline alcohol, and that alone should have raised eyebrows given what we know of martin and, again, a fandom that dissects everything. we already knew martin "K" blackwood lied about his personal life and his family in particular, especially pre-canon, which is when this flashback took place. i was shocked that everyone took his flimsy excuse at face value with no further questions.
and the excuse is flimsy. martin turns down wine by--nervously--exclaiming tannins are "a proven headache trigger!" which sounds like trivia from a magazine cover and not the words of someone who actually has headaches--and it hasn't come up before or since. jon, confused, points out that tea, a drink martin consumes to a degree that is memetic both in- and out-of-universe, also contains tannins, and martin squawks a panicked, "what?!"
if tannins are enough of a concern for martin that he knew they're in wine and so avoids it, why didn't he know they're in his drink of choice? why does he still drink tea at the time of canon, and why doesn't he struggle with constant headaches from consuming 'a proven headache trigger' day in and day out? why, indeed, would someone avoid wine and not tea?
when sasha insists martin drink he caves and agrees to 'just a drop'. i imagine him pouring it in a plant, which admittedly he could have done if tannins really were the issue. i will say that i, for one, would be less likely to falsely agree to something that makes me physically ill than to a private issue that i'd rather not be pressed on any further. this scene also establishes martin's birthday was an ice cream party instead of the more traditional visit to a pub.
also, this scene was in the first episode of the final season, as one of three flashbacks that could have been to any pre-canon event in the archives. prime narrative real estate. not really time one would waste on establishing the important character context that martin has... headaches. which never comes up before or after, even regarding the week he spent in spiral town. but you know what is pretty crucial character background...?
it felt like a no-brainer, and yet all i saw was h/c fluff about jon attending to martin's headaches. and i hate feeling bitter about disability representation. i want folks with chronic headaches to feel seen and have fluffy escapist fantasies. i don't want to be mad about people portraying a character with a disability. but, guys? you got the wrong disability. jonny sent a clear message, and it went over fandom's head.

Sometimes I think of tma verse Gerry talking about how, “It hurts. Being like this. And it’s not like any pain you can feel when you’re alive. It’s… it hurts to exist.”
And I wonder, if Jon is one of the voices trapped in the computers, if he finally understands what Gerry meant.
