head low, brows furrowed in anxious worries. he put up with mom all these years, and him. so. ' dad, if a girls hurts you, how do you tell her that, without being a bitc- a weakling to her?? '
Tumblr media
“ Katsuki? ”  it’s few and far in-between that he ever sees his son like this, head bowed low and worry evident on his face. More and more, ever since he began to grow up from a young toddler to the teenager he is now, he’s become more and more closed off to them. His anger was plain to see for everyone but the other emotions … those he kept guarded close to his chest.
Masaru supposes he can’t really fault his son for that, but it aches all the same to see him shoulder that burden on his own. Katsuki is strong, and Masaru has never doubted a day in his life that his son would grow up and make as incredible hero as he is a son. Their family may not be the most functional of them all, but they’re a family all the same, and his love for his son has never been in question. The pride he holds for him and what he’s been able to accomplish all on his own.
Katsuki has been his own biggest supporter all these years, while Masaru has quietly cheered him on from the sidelines.
He’d like to help him out this once, if he can. Bring some stability to all the chaos and tumultuous situations he’s been through this past year.
“ Well … ”  He begins, a little unsure at first. “ Honesty is the best policy. Though you seem to have that pinned down well. ”   he points it out with a good - natured, fond smile, but the look in his eyes and the way he holds himself silently tells he isn’t detracting from the weight of the situation.  “ You have to let her know. From my own experience, it’s not always intentional — you and I both know things can get heated sometimes. From both sides. ”   the look is a little more pointed this time, though very subtle and well-intentioned and not at all accusing. Just … pointing out the truth, in a way not meant to offend or insult.  “ But there’s nothing wrong with being honest, Katsuki. In fact … it’s much more difficult to be honest in that way than to lie and pretend that everything is fine. If you look at it that way, by speaking the truth, you show you’re strong in both character and heart.
And I know you, Katsuki. You’ve never been weak. Not a day in your life. ”

“Katsuki...I appreciate the inside voice, but you shouldn’t insult your mother like that. Or me, for that matter.” Or, well, anyone. But -- small steps right? His son was maturing...Slowly, but surely. It was a step in the right direction at least!

HEADCANON. in response to a question @supcrmight / @glycerveined asked me, whether or not masaru likes his quirk!!!
& i think he does!!! now that's hes had a good chunk of his life to get used to it and accept it for what it is, he does. to him his quirk is now just another part of him, it doesn't make him amazing, it doesn't change his life and open up new opportunities like katsuki's or even mitsuki's with her past modelling, but he's okay with that!! he used to want to be a hero when he was younger just like katsuki, and it used to be his dream. but he eventually ended up realizing that his quirk wasn't the strongest, and it wasn't very hero material, and that was okay. it sucked for a while but by then he'd started getting into fashion design, and realized that was the path he wanted to go down instead!!!
although his quirk does cause him some trouble sometimes, because of the acid sweat that can ignite in his palms, he has to have blotting paper or tissues on hand at all times, especially when he's working like designing new lines or fixing clothing in the studio. he's singed and ruined more than a couple of items of clothing and sketches he's made before lol oops. he's not bitter about his quirk or sad about it, and honestly, he's actually pretty proud!! proud he has the quirk he does because it gave katsuki happiness to see it when he was younger and it let him bond with katsuki too, even just for a little while, when katsuki first got his quirk and they were just fireworks like his (though still stronger because he didn't have to clap or rub his hands together).
not to mention, his quirk combined with mitsuki's is what gave katsuki his quirk. and katsuki has a powerful quirk. so yeah. masaru is pretty okay with his quirk :-)

HEADCANON.  Back when Katsuki was still small and played pretend a lot, Masaru would humor him and play villain to Katsuki’s hero, being all dramatic and extra and faking his defeat so he could see Katsuki smile and cackle in glee and victory.

HEADCANON.
When Katsuki first develops his quirk, Masaru is absolutely overjoyed. Not to say he wasn’t proud of his son and loved him beforehand, but Katsuki’s quirk is the first trait that they find out Katsuki inherited from him. The moment Katsuki’s palms started lighting up and tiny little pops and bangs of light came out of them, Masaru was yelling for Mitsuki to come, going “LOOK!!! he inherited my quirk Mitsuki!!!”
After that, Masaru ends up trying to teach Katsuki how to use his quirk at first, thinking Katsuki’s quirk is low level like his. It’s a little bit different, because it doesn’t require a force to activate the explosion, just the sweat alone seems like enough, but they’re tiny firecrackers like his. ...Until Katsuki blows something up and creates a tiny explosion, right in front of Masaru as they were playing around trying to out-do one another, and Masaru is left standing there, his mustache singed to hell. And he’s just like "....mitsuki, honey........come here for a sec?"
And that's why Masaru's mustache looks so shitty, because to this day he can’t grow it back right. :-)

head lifting off his shoulder, she turned to face him and pressed scarlet lips against his cheek. voice hushed / serene, she whispers, " you're so cute, honey."
masaru isn’t an easily flustered man. a little high strung and nervous, sure! but that comes with the job. the job being, both his professional career as a fashion designer, and his job as a father and husband to two of the amazing, incredible, wonderful … terrifying … people in his life. although that last one applied more to his wife than his son.
and he loved them. both.
and only mitsuki could fluster him. even after eighteen years of marriage, mitsuki still knew how to make every moment with her unforgettable.
he felt his face go a little warm, but instead of shying away or not knowing what to do like he had the first time they’d met and mitsuki had aggressively pursued him, masaru smiles. he gives a chuckle, soft, and turns his head to press his lips against hers before she moves too far away. “well, i suppose that is one of the reasons why you married me,” he jokes, easily, and squeezes her hand in his, nothing but fondness in his voice and gaze. “honestly. how did i get so lucky?”

another headcanon: masaru, in his sillier / more confident moments around his family, will quote vine at katsuki and go “i’m your dad, boogie woogie!” and then “i don’t know where that’s from but i am here for you son”

masaru: is trying his best

His eye twitches when he hears his father behind him, teeth gritting a bit before he speaks; quietly at first, slowly, "I said," and his voice breaks then, tone rises, eyebrows knit together in annoyance - and there's those angry hand gestures, too, nothing /violent/, just aggressive. "I'D CLEAN IT UP LATER, DAD. Just fu--" He bites his tongue before saying the word, looking around to make sure a certain lady isn't around to hear it. "/Drop it/, alright?"
“…” Masaru says nothing for a good while, knowing the signs of Katsuki’s angry outbursts, and how easy it is for him to lose his temper when bothered too much. He waits it out instead —- but he can’t help the subtle quirk of the corner of his lips at seeing his son look around (not as subtly as he thinks) to make sure his mother isn’t nearby. He’s more impressed, though — impressed, and proud – of Katsuki stopping himself and calming down. There’s a burst of pride in his chest seeing his son reign in his temper like that. Even if it is because he doesn’t want his mother to hear. It’s progress, nonetheless! He hopes.
It hasn’t escaped his notice how his son has been changing, recently. And not in a bad way, either. Not in the way he’d come home after the incident at Kamino, after his kidnapping … Neither him nor Mitsuki had known how to handle that, how to handle Katsuki’s change in behavior. But then, even that had changed. And now? Now, his son was growing up. His anger still got out of hand, but it didn’t always get the best of him.
That being said … “Katsuki,” he says, as gently and as fatherly as he can. He’s preparing himself for the volcanic eruption soon to come. One of his own doing, with three simple words. “It is later.”

is it true that whenever the love of his life tells a joke he starts laughing and goes 'you're killing me' while holding his stomach, then before saying the next sentence mitsuki is just ;dont you fucking dare' but he dares anyway and says 'i'm dad now'
masaru is the king of dad jokes, it’s true.
his favorite is ‘what’s brown and sticky?’ and hearing katsuki and mitsuki practically throw their chairs away as they get up to leave before going ‘a stick’ all self satisfied before they can escape
