Monster Mash Day One

So I almost forgot about the monster mash event but managed to do this little piece for day one, I had fun, I love these boys. @op-pirate-fleet are hosting the event!

Mild Marco x Ace SFW Prompt: Jack o' lanterns Word Count: 602

“What are you doing with those?” Ace asked as he walked towards the older pirates, Thatch laughed as he cut the top off the large orange pumpkin, rolling up his sleeve, digging his hand into the pulp and guts, yanking out a large handful and dumping into a bowl.

“Pumpkins?” the chef asked, Ace shrugged.

“Pumpkins, sure” He nodded hands in his pockets as he eyed them up, he hadn’t really seen many other traditions when he was growing up, he knew about Halloween and how it could be celebrated, he used to tell his brothers ghost stories after all.

“Basically, you cut n’ gut these, cut out a face and put a candle in it at night” Thatch passed a completely empty one to Marco who wiped down the front with a rag, getting a knife to roughly trace a design.

“Why?” Ace sat down next to the doctor, watching how the blond focused on his work, tip of his tongue poking out in concentration, he leaned on his hand waiting to see the result.

“Fun yoi”

“Fun?”

“I’ll gut this one and birdbrain will help you, you’ll see, fun”The 4th division commander chuckled as he once again sunk his knife into the large orange vegetable.

“I didn’t know you could draw” Ace said watching as Marco started to etch out the jack o’ lanterns eyes.

“Are we not looking at the same thing? I can’t yoi” Marco chuckled, somehow feeling proud the younger pirate was impressed with his basic art skills.

“Here” Thatch passed another empty one down the line, Marco took it and handed it to Ace, passing him another small knife.

“Don’t cut all the way inside, not yet, this is just the planning stage” Marco instructed, watching as Ace squinted back at him, clicking his tongue as he glanced between what Marco was doing, the big goofy smile and the triangle nose and then to his blank canvas.

Thatch finished one for himself joining the other two, for a few minutes there was a comfortable silence between the three men, just the sound of each knife scoring the surface of the pumpkins. Ace put down his knife and turned the pumpkin to face Marco and Thatch.

“Like this?”

“That… that’s pretty damn good freckles…” Thatch blinked, looking at the planning stages of Ace’s versus his and Marco’s. Thankful it wasn’t a contest, maybe Ace had beginners’ luck, the chef scolded himself for underestimating the younger pirate.

“Right! now you get the bigger knife and poke through” Thatch said taking the reins, Ace watching, seeing how the chef cut around the shapes, pulling out a large chunk, the pumpkin now had a large grinning mouth.

“Alright, I can do that” Ace nodded, taking up his own tools, working on his project. Once again everyone focused on their work, it was nice getting to spend some down time together.

“Well, I think you can tell who has the talent and who ah, better luck next year” Izou smirked when all the candles were lit and the three jack o’ lanterns sat in all their glory.

“I think we did a good job” Thatch crossed his arms and stared at the pumpkins, seeing how his and Marco’s looked like a child had gotten on board and made a very bad attempt.

“I’m proud of us all yoi” Marco placed an arm around Ace’s shoulder and smiled “You did great firefly”

Ace mumbled, still not used to compliments, watching the flames inside the pumpkin’s mouths flicker, he was glad the darkness hid the slight blush across his freckled cheeks.

The event was made with character x character in mind, but seeing as we never specifically said no to character x OC or character x reader, we'll accept those entries as well.

We'll make sure to make our FAQ and rules more clear for future events.

With 4 prompts a day, everyone should be able to find something interesting. Lets go over our monsters. Or are they just Halloween costumes? That's completely up to you!

The undead: this mostly speaks for itself - zombies, vampires, ghouls... anything neither living nor dead

The beasts: monsters and creatures that don't have a fully humanoid shape (sometimes or all the time) - werewolves, were-creatures, shifters, harpies... we can't think of all of them, but we're sure you know some more!

The spirits: beings without a solid form - ghosts, apparitions, spirits of any kind... is that a ghost or just Chopper covered in a white sheet with holes cut out? we'll never know.

The Monster Mash: technically a free day where you can write any monster or creature you can think of, whether or not they were in any of the groups from days 1-3. Halloween is the center of this event so it stands to reason that this day is a playground for everyone to do whatever they want (as long as there's some monsters involved).

What's the bonus day 5? It's a little prompt for anyone who wants to do the aftermath of whatever their Halloween is going to look like. Whether it's a massive hangover after an epic Halloween party or finally seeing the sun rise after surviving a monstrous night, this is the day you can write a little extra.

This is a lot of prompts per day, do all entries need to have all 4? They do not! We decided to give 4 prompts per day (monster, location, detail, and something traditional for Halloween) so we can give participants as much freedom and inspiration as possible. This means you can do just one prompt or you can combine two, three, or all four. We wanted to cover both the fantasy supernatural aspect and a modern wholesome Halloween experience so there's room for both horror and cuteness.

The AO3 collection and our tag will be posted soon, the closer we get to posting. As always, we're here if you have any questions!

It's been a while since our OP Bingo ended and we've been working on figuring out the next event.

Before making any official announcements about what's next, we just wanted to share the Twitter account we made so our events can cover both platforms!

You can find us HERE if you're more used to Twitter.

Tumblr will remain our main archive, since the post length isn't as limited, but we will be retweeting any entries on Twitter as well.

For now we'd just like to set the Twitter up and spread the word a bit before we announce our next project :)

At this time, we are still not considering running a Discord server for these events.

[Writer spotlight] Bingo! (no.2) Lerya

Next time I'll take the time to see who I'm making food for... [rated M] Ace/Marco, Thatch&Izou

Thatch was moving in with Izou, and had asked Ace to move into his old appartment with his older brother. After all, Marco worked too long shifts at the hospital and needed someone to live with him so he had actual food instead of only take out. Meanwhile, Ace needed a place to stay now that he had secured himself a spot at the Grand Line City firebrigade.

I wish I told you, instead of getting hurt [rated M] Marco/Ace

Going on a mission together was a mistake, getting stuck in a closet together only made it worse - worse enough that both of them assumed the worst about the whole situation. Luckily both of them have a support system that make them see sense in all of this.

At least we're together again [rated M] Luffy&Strawhat Pirates, Luffy & Ace & Sabo (major character death)

I ripped my heart out writing this role reversal, where it is Ace that loses his memories, and Sabo that gets executed at Marine Ford. I tried to give it a happy ending, but I'm not sure I succeeded.

Luffy had no idea what he wanted to do with his life, both his brothers had plans for the future and acted on them.

But he had no idea what he wanted, until he finds a sad man looking at a building set for demolishion, and buys it, renovates it, and makes it his own - Thousand Sunny cafe.

Meeting the right people at the right time lets him know he made the right choice and helps him find his path in life anyway.

I want to stay, but I'm scared... [rated M] Marco/Ace

One morning Ace wakes up somewhere entirely else then where he fell asleep. This wouldn't be that much of a deal, until he recognized just where he woke up, as well as Sabo telling him of how you switched with your soulmate at one point after meeting them. He really didn't need another reason to stay on the Moby Dick, especially not a soulmate that was a permanent feature there, he was after all sure he wouldn't be allowed to stay when they found out THAT.

Missing you, hurts so much [rated T] Luffy & Ace & Sabo (major character death)

A character study of what would have gone through the minds of Ace, Luffy and Sabo, just after Marineford. With one dead, one terrible injured and one only just remembering what he's lost, all the while two of them think their two brothers are dead.

And suddenly I realised, I love you. [rated T] Koala/Sabo

When Koala walked into the kitchen, dressed in nothing but her PJ's, clutching a cup of coffee, Sabo suddenly realised she was the most beautiful person he knew - and subsequently realised he had been in love with her, for A VERY LONG TIME. Que him trying to tell her, without actually telling her (because what could go wrong there).
