From the season 5 finale and season 6 premiere, we know that Rick’s relationship with Morty seemed to heal Rick in some way or at least distract him from his revenge plot on Prime.

So it makes a lot of sense that as soon as Morty shows less emotional investment in their relationship, Rick falls back into his obsession with Prime— like a sad sort of crutch that allows him to function (barely) after Morty’s rejection. Like always, Rick is primarily motivated by his emotions over intellect or rational thought.

It’s sad how much they mutually want love and approval from each other, but are too irreversibly haunted by trauma to expect that from the other

a beth x space beth conversation that ended up making me do a 10 page colour comic.

i think the only person space beth would ever talk 2 about their insecurities over rick's perceived choice would be beth, sure she's is over it but i dont think she ever got anyone to talk 2 anyone about it who'd REALLY get it so this is finally some catharsis for her.

Oof the recent episode was a doozy in a GOOD way. While the jokes were kind of hit or miss, the episode as a whole was a lot of fun and honestly I couldn’t stop grinning throughout. The humor is right up my alley; self aware but also gleefully silly enough in its premise to not be grating

Also the smash cut grenades bit is 10/10

I love that this episode was really earnest with its premise and that the family never scoffed at or explicitly brought attention to the fact they were doing a parody. They did seem kind of different because of their lack of self-awareness, but I don’t really mind that too much. I feel like the show hasn’t been this shamelessly playful (while being good) since season 1

……..This might be my favorite episode this season. It was bordering on sitcom-y at first but I’m loving the dynamics between the family, especially between Morty, Summer, and Rick (who adorably became the pseudo middle child).

Also I had a feeling something not-platonic would happen between Beth and Space Beth from the episode preview, but I’m glad the writers went for more of a weighty slow burn. Of course, Jerry subsequently finding out about their affair was perfect. Somehow every story beat made sense emotionally for all the characters and yeah. Yeah. I love this episode

The part of Morty that is the most emotionally cognizant is the one that didn’t go with Rick, because they realized that they could survive and live happily (happier, even) without Rick’s validation. Basically, Morty had to sacrifice his emotional compass, in turn killing the part of himself that can navigate his feelings/thoughts and get to the core of what he needs, in order to stay in his grandfather’s life.

Morty being punished for expecting more from Rick emotionally is a recurring theme throughout the show, but this time Rick directly witnesses this effect he has on Morty over the course several—albeit simulated—decades. Whether or not Rick’s admission to Marta was genuine, him keeping them alive despite that being an ultimately useless gesture indicates that this experience did effect Rick in some way.
