Romandians

Phew! Castellio took forever, but now unto Romandi fashion!

Romandian fashion is refined and ever advancing, they strive to set new trends and evolve their fashion as fast as they can. Popular styles come and go very quickly in upper class circles but there is some consistency that can be seen in their fashion taste. One big note though, is that more modern looks are for the wealthy; lower class people have stayed stagnant in fashion choice while the rich moved far passed them.

Lower class women will wear traditional dresses and garps, often considered to be 'peasants wear'. It's all they can afford and its practical enough to do work in. Which is what they majority of the time do; work, work, work.

Middle class Romandi women have a little more wiggle room for color and slight fashionable upgrades to their ensembles. Patterned fabrics and styled fabric tucking is how they try to mimic the upper class. Instead of being so fascinated with the color white like Castelliones, Romandians prefer vibrant colors and patterns. Nice color matching ability is also seen as having very good fashion sense.

Romandian nobles change fashions like the weather, it is so difficult to stay in fashion with their trends. Everyone is trying to outdo each other and it really is like throwing things at the wall and hoping it will stick. Everyone is a trendsetter and everyone wants to be wearing the latest new thing, because Romandi was such an wealthy economic country when they used free Castellion labour; the wealthy could afford to do this. Now that the harsh forced labour deals are over, Romandian nobles lament that they cannot afford to be wasting too much money on clothes.

Now Romandi's menswear is sophisticated and also ever changing, but in much subtler ways than the women's fashion.

Lower class men share the majority same look as Castellion men since they usually share the same amount of manual labor. But since Romandian men were always paid more, they could afford some more variety in their attire. A few more coats and buttons than average Castellion fashion.

I also don't have the proper photos to covert this but the people who live in the rural areas also might tend to wear plain tunics and pants.

Middle class men have plain suits and try to come pretty close to the higher class in terms of style. Although the clothes they wear does tend to be made of cheaper materials and are often not tailored to fit them exactly. The men still dress to impress and they wear ties a lot more often, and hats.

Now, the high class men? They wear tight form fitting clothes designed to make them look slim and tall. Fine fabrics and rich patterns solidify their look, and while the photos might not reflect this; they also favor bold colors in their designs.

Jeez this took longer than I thought to finish, didn't help that people irl kept bothering me all day. 😭

So the fashion of OMWAT is very 1890's, Edwardian sort of centered. The world is a mix of slight medieval elements with the beginnings of early modernization.

Fashion also very heavily depends on which country your from and what social class you are in.

I'll start by breaking down Castellion fashion between the social classes then by men and women differences. Then I'll do the same for Romandian fashion! The main characters will have a post following shortly after this one to describe how they dress.

Castelliones

Most Castelliones go for very practical but moderately reserved sort of look, for women; the white flowy blouse with a high neck paired with long black skirts is the classic look for average city women.

The only huge difference is that clean, detailed lace is a sign of wealth in this classic look (and honestly in most other looks too, lace is a bigger deal to women in Castellio). This is also sort of a day-to-day sort of outfit and women will spin their own personal touches to it. Some, if they can afford it, will invest in having at least one simple white dress with some lace.

If you're in Castellio and live in a more rural area then you might see a few more people dressed in a traditional/charro-ish style. The rural open areas of Castellio is full of ranches and it is simply more practical to not be wearing white (Practicality is also a very big deal in Castellio). Although the rural outskirts is where you will see more color in Castellion outfits, their outfits actually tend to be more vibrant than high class Castelliones.

Now, high class Castellion women are a whole different story. The general rule of practicality for clothing is thrown out the window for their fashion sense. They dress with the idea to convey a 'refined elegance', they do this by wearing a lot of white for purity, but also to show off how clean they can keep their dress. This is where that fashion trend of lace comes in, the more beautiful handcrafted pure white lace or frills you have; the purer they think they look. They also sometimes wear more form fitting dresses, although it's a bit risky because that's usually a style for single high class women in Castellio. More drapey or loose clothes tend to be a sign of a married woman, but it's more of an unspoken rule that some people choose to ignore because it's a little outdated. Even by Castellion standards lol.

Okay, now time for the men!

Average classed men wear simple and practical clothes, brown pants with plain white shirt is the standard look. Suspenders are a bigger deal though, they were introduced into Castellion fashion by Romandi culture back when young Castellion men were forced to work in Luogo Di Pace. Young Castelliones found them more interesting that the regular belts they had so they adopted the style into their culture as those men went back home at the end of their service time.

Castellio is also a pretty warm place but if they get cold they will wear layers.

Average Castellion men look like this:

Rural men will look dress in proper rancher styles because it's practical. A lot of their clothes are hand me downs from their fathers and grandfathers, so they are more sentimental in that sense and take great care of their clothes. If it's cold? They throw on a hand woven poncho made by their wife, mom, or abuela. Also they are pretty stubborn on wearing belts rather than suspenders because they want to stick more to Castellion tradition rather than adopt anything Romandian.

Upper class menswear is a little stuck in the mid 1800s style, it's a tad outdated with its frills and puffs but they still like them. Their outfits tend to be form-fitting and with toned down colors. Unlike the pictures however, they wear their pants all the way down to their ankles not to their knees.

How would the Ro's react if we bought home a puppy that we saw on the street?

Cassandra: She likes dogs so she is good with it but she does expect you to take care and train it well. If you don't she will nag you and probably secretly trains it herself so that it's easier for you.

Valeria: Melts and squeals when she sees it, immediately starts taking care of it and giving it a bath. Starts asking you for name ideas, the puppy is now both of yours.

Tomás: Mr. 'I don't want no dog' yet is the one most attached to it like a typical grumpy father. Cuddles up with it when he thinks you're not home, says no dogs on the bed and that they belong outside; yet when there is a light wind he lets the dog right on in. Saying stuff like, "It's cold outside, I am not heartless." Within a year the dog is sleeping with you guys on the bed.

Ludovica: Prefers cats to be honest. Gives the puppy treats but does not like it when it tries to jump up on her, has maids do majority of the work for the puppy. Likes the puppy just because MC does.

Aurelio: Tells you that you can only get one pet so you better choose wisely. If you decide to keep the puppy he treats it sorta like a surrogate child, buys it luxury dog food and clothes. That dog will live better than most middle class citizens.

Elio: Does not want the dog period but tolerates it for your sake. Trains it to make it useful, like fetching newspapers and chasing off annoying people he doesn't like. The dog sleeps outside, this is non negotiable. (It is in fact, very negotiable. Just hit him with yours and the dogs puppy dog eyes at the same time, that will make this sucker fold like a house of cards)

How would the ROs take care of a drunk MC?

Cassandra: Scolds you the whole time she is dragging you home and tucking you into bed. Gives you water and gives you a lecture while she checks your temperature, keeps you awake out of fear you will blackout. The next day she talks extra loud and keeps all of the windows wide open to let the sunlight in, your hangover will not be pleasant lol. She might be upset you got drunk but takes care of you all the same.

Valeria: Makes an idiot out of you by asking you non-stop embarrassing questions in front of her brothers. Encourages you to act a fool, albeit safely, so that she can make fun of you the next day. That is your punishment for overindulging. She will sweetly take care of you during your hangover, making you her mom's hangover cure that she tends to have to make for her brothers every now and then. Still making fun of you however.

Tomás: If you got drunk with him there with you he is okay with it, sweetly guides you home and plays along with your drunk antics. Tucks you into bed and gets you munchies if you're hungry.

If you got drunk without him being with you is a whole other story. He will be very upset with you, getting drunk is dangerous already because you're not in your right mind; but it is even more dangerous when you don't have someone you trust to take care of you nearby. What if someone took advantage of you? What if you made a drunk mistake and cheated while intoxicated? All of the worst scenarios run through his head, he drags you home and leaves you to sorta take care of yourself while he broods. He will step in if you're trying to do something possibly dangerous but he won't actively take care of you. Gives you the cold shoulder during your hangover too, expect no affection until you apologize and promise not to do that again. He would happily take care of you while you're drunk if he was with you.

Ludovica: Is adorably confused on what to do. She has unfortunately seen her fair share of drunks in her life, her late husband would get drunk often and abuse her. She would try to hide when he drank and hope he would die by choking on something or by falling down the stairs while drunk. She obviously does not want any of that to happen with you, she will hover nearby with outstretched hands ready to steady you. She keeps you away from any stairs or sharp objects, makes sure you only eat soft foods and constantly asks you if your okay. She has no clue how to handle you, asks her maids for help as well; you're basically treated like a toddler when your drunk in her villa. The next day she dotes on you in your hangover pain, gets you anything you want and speaks in a hushed voice. She does politely ask you not to do this often, she worries about you.

Aurelio: To be honest, if you're drinking; he is probably also drunk too. His people already know how to manage him when he is intoxicated, that same extent of care is also extended to you. The next day when your both hungover you guys get to try and piece together what the hell happened yesterday.

Elio: Observes your drunk behavior like he is watching a wild animal and documents it thoroughly. He occasionally asks you questions on how you are feeling and why you're doing what you're currently doing. Makes snarky comments like,

"And so they take a banana from the bowl and observes it hungrily, they try to peel it but their hand-eye coordination is suboptimal due to their state of inebriation."

"They eye me in annoyance of my vocal commentary of their intoxicated antics, although they probably should have thought of that before he drank that whole bottle of wine in one sitting."

"Oh how interesting, they fail to peel the banana; so they proceed to say, and I quote 'fuck it' and proceed to bite the banana. Skin and all. How peculiar."

The day after he does fetch you whatever you ask him for, he feels bad that you don't feel too good. Tells you to maybe watch how much you drink next time. He does sort of cutely use his notes from the last time you got drunk to better help you. Memorizes what make you feel better when you hungover and prepares them in advance for the inevitable next day sickness.

How old is Mc when we start the demo? Doesn't have to be an exact age. I'm guessing 6–10-year-old at most.

Hm, you know I could have sworn I had said about seven years old somewhere in Act 1 but I can't find it. So, I guess it accidently got cut when I did one of my rewrites.

Currently; I have it set that the orphan is somewhere between 8 and 9 years old when they meet June. They do not know their own birthday or how exactly old they are themselves, all they know at this point is fully focused on survival. What their life was like before they had to fight to survive on their own is lost to them, although for context; they were only surviving on their own for maybe a max of two years.

Does selecting traumatized make us touch-averse from the rest of the game? If no,can we have special people that we are okay touching like mother and the one of the ROs?

When you have the traumatized trait you have all of the other phobia traits active. If you spend some of your freetime moments working through your trauma with the traveler then you lose a phobia trait, one by one through time.

So in short yes, you can lose the phobia of touch through time if you want. Otherwise you can also chose to only lose the touch averseness with select people, exactly with mother and your selected RO. Also with traveler if you choose the option to see them as an older sibling or mentor later.

Yup, you romance anyone regardless of gender, you just get some unique dialouge/experiences with some RO's when your the same gender as them. Tomás and Ludovica are the 'more straight' RO's but can have gay panic with a same sex MC lol.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question to ask or has already been answered, but can secret characters also qualify as secret ROs? Or will it only be in the next books? Or are they simply just essential characters in the plot?

Not a foolish question at all, I am still mulling over if I want to make this a trilogy like I originally planned. I am still not set on a final decision so I'll just say what I originally planned them to be.

The secret characters have HEAVY influence on the story later on and there a hidden things you can do to raise your affinity with them throughout book 1. If your affinity if high enough with one of them by the start of a huge story decision, you unlock a special ability and story path.

New RO's would only be a thing if I make a book two on this story. I have a few written out but I am unsure if I will use them for OMWAT. I have another story I would like to write but I am trying not to focus too much on that side project since I really want to finish this one with what little free time I have to work on it. 😭

A question: Replaying now, in act two, I have some options greyed out, and I'm not sure why. Basically I couldn't be emotional when it's revealed that the horse is owned by mother (so I choose angry instead). And later I couldn't apologize for it.

I don't know if I just forgot and it was always like this. Or if he has to do with the gender of the MC (mine was male). But it was surprising, since being so early in the game is unexpected to have unavailable choices that don't seem to have any sort of obvious reason to be unavailable.

I hope I wasn't too rude by asking this. Maybe I just didn't get something. I just wanted to make sure. Of course, don't overexert yourself, since you must be busy with everything going on.

If I am not mistaken you can only select emotional if you picked to be traumatized after your encounter with the baker's boys. I did this because the orphan is pretty harded to a degree when they first meet June, they only get emotional in front of others they don't know if the emotions were extreme, like they would be if they have the traumatized trait.

You can only apologize to June if you picked sardonic because the orphan insults her quite a bit, although now that I think about it... they should be able to apologize for yelling at her too.

I think I'll make that a fix into the game. Thanks for pointing this out to me! 💙

As I should, I'd like to thank you for the update. However, now I have an issue of my own.

Since we can now choose our name... I'm in a crisis trying to choose one that makes sense with the world. Now, the orphan is living in a town in Romandi. Which would mean I should use an Italian inspired name (ideally). But, from what Miss June says, we probably aren't from either of the countries. And her identity also brings an interesting point (since both Evangeline and June suggest a French/English naming convention). So, now I'm in absolute confusion and dismay. Which happens all the time, honestly, when having to choose a name.

So, unless it reveals too much of the story. What kind of naming convention should I have in mind if I want to choose a name that makes sense for the orphan? I guess I could go with a Romandi styled name (Italian) if I headcannon that the name was given by the town. But I still would prefer to be sure, if possible.

Hehe, I love the thought your putting into this!

I leave the orphans identity vague so anyone can immerse themselves into the story, the orphan can come from any racial/cultural background and the story still makes sense.

I might suggest that if you to play a particular hyper realistic origin headcanon for MC then an italian or spanish inspired name might make a bit more sense story wise since Lugo Di Pace is supposed to be a culturally mixed place but I left the window of interpretation wide for this very reason.

So feel free to make any name you like! 💙

Mini Update!

Sorry for the long absence! 😭

I just got a new job and I am currently taking CS college classes at the same time so my writing time has been severely impacted but I was able to squeeze out a small update.

-New Additions-

Word count is now at: 33k words.

The orphan’s name can now be added.

Fleshed out some dialouge options, so there is more to read in Act 3 and a bit in Act 2.

Changed June’s lullaby to an a better fitting song.

The arrival to Santuario is done. It’s honestly more of the orphan’s first impressions, the deep dive into their life their will be in chapter 1.

Act 3 of the prologue is done and I have decided to include the orphans development years into chapter one so stay tuned for that.

Sorry it’s not as much as I’d like but I promise I am still working on it when I can!

Mother's reaction to an mc declaring their love and that when they grow up they'll protect mother forever

Mother:

She smiles and feels her heart beat so strongly, it feels like it's ready to burst out of her chest. This is just too cute.

"Oh my treasure, my darling little one." she places both her hands over her heart and her eyes feel a little misty.

"I appreciate that so much more than you'll ever know, but you don't ever have to worry about me. I want you to grow up big and strong enough that you can make your own family and home anywhere you want!"

She leans over and pulls you into a tight, warm hug, "I will always love you, no matter what happens. And I pray that whatever might happen, that you'll still love me too..."

Man, that dialogue with June reminds me a lot of the relationship between Daniel Johnston and his mother in his song "Poor You." Johnston's circumstances are very different but it definitely hits on a similar sadness.

Oh man that's interesting!

I just listened to that song right now and it really gives me a vibe of MC and June's relationship, mixed with June's own dynamic with her mother. I have never heard that song before but it really did speak to me in terms of how those two relationships sort of parallel with each other a lot more than I originally thought.

I know I still have to comb back through the inn scene eventually and add more of what I call "meat" dialouge but I think I am also going to add a good chunk of dialouge pertaining to this idea.

"Hm, I mean; I have always wanted to go rock climbing! I know that's not typically something that most guys around here would think is something safe for girls to do. But have you seen my arms?"

She giggles as she rolls up her sleeve and flexes the muscles on her arms, "Rolling dough day-in and day-out has left me well off enough, I would think!"
