as an absolute bucky barnes whore, it’s an honor to write this

you kept it a secret for a long time

rafe knew you loved the marvel movies

he was over the moon about it because he finally had someone to nerd out with

you were having a marathon, watching the movies in order

how it slipped your mind that your favorite was up next was beyond you

as it started, you and rafe chatted about the scenes and the actors

rafe saw your eyes were glued to the screen when bucky blew up fury’s car

he narrowed his eyes slightly, watching you chew on your bottom lip until the scene ended and you went back to how you were

he didn’t think much of it

you curled into his side and continued watching

you were tracing aimless patterns on rafe’s stomach under his shirt

your movements stilled when the bridge scene came on

rafe felt your breath hitch when bucky ripped the steering wheel out of the car

he watched you sit up, putting all your attention solely on the television

the smile that worked it’s way onto your face as you watched natasha and steve fight bucky made rafe pause it

“hey! what’re you doing?”

rafe sat up and stared at you

“do you have a fucking crush on the winter soldier?”

your face heated up and you looked away, trying to hide behind your hair

“you do!”

“he’s fucking hot, okay! the metal arm? the way he can fight?”

rafe huffed, puffing his chest out a bit

“i can fight”

you rolled your eyes and scoffed

“you fight kids, rafe. and you don’t use guns or knives!”

rafe opened his mouth

“so help me god if you say what i think you’re about to say i will kill you myself”

rafe closed his mouth quickly

the two of you bickered for a while

rafe couldn’t see your fascination with the assassin and quite frankly, he felt a little self conscious

“he’s a fictional character, babe! stop being jealous!”

rafe was in the bathroom, taking a pee break when you yelled to him

he was grumbling under his breath about how he wasn’t jealous

you smirked slightly, almost wanting to get him riled up further

we all know what happens when you do that

“now if sebastian stan walked up to me and asked me to run away with him, i wouldn’t say no”

you heard the sink turn off and rafe came barreling out of the bathroom

he tackled you on the bed, pining you to the mattress beneath you as you giggled

“i’m kidding!”

a/n: wrote this on the plane this afternoon, lowkey inspired by own anxiety today (sans the rafe cameron comfort) - planes aren’t supposed to be quiet!! i didn’t proofread so sorry in advance hehe

Flying wasn’t your favorite thing in the world. In all honesty, you might have a little airplane phobia. You could keep it together when everything went according to plan: when checking into your flight went smoothly, TSA was a breeze and you had an hour extra to spare as you sat at your gate.

Of course, this was not one of those times. There had been a mixup with your uber, causing you to lose half of your relax buffer time. then, there had been an issue checking in and you briefly thought you wouldn’t be allowed on the plane, but the nice customer service rep behind the desk was kind enough to explain they had accidentally let you choose a seat already occupied and simply moved your seat assignment. The real bummer was losing out on the window seat - one of the ways you were able to get over (well not quite over but through for sure) your fear was to face it, quite literally forcing yourself to look out the window as the plane took off and landed. For some reason watching the position of the airplane relative to the ground was grounding for you.

Even going through TSA had gone wrong, you’d forgotten to take your novelty bottle opener off your key ring and ended up getting pulled to the side and patted down. (It was a joke gift from your dad in the shape of a spent shotgun shell - something about a warning to any boys who might want to approach you? Who knows, you just liked it because you always had a bottle opener on you, getting you to a beer quickly when the occasion called for it).

You didn’t know if it was a blessing or a curse when you arrived at your newly assigned seat to find a tall and handsome twenty-something man in the window seat. You gulped, briefly wondering if you could pretend like you had a different assigned seat but you knew the plane was full and didn’t want that embarrassment. He must have took this as you needing help, as he stood up, mumbled a respectful ‘ma’am’ and lifted your very heavy carryon like it wasn’t full of your makeup and toiletries, a weeks worth of clothes and three pairs of shoes.

“They shouldn’t find us here,” Rafe spoke softly as he pulled you into the trees next to the beach where the kegger was happening. Rafe picked a good spot. It’s secluded and a perfect place to hide from your friends.

“Now where were we the other day?” He asked as his hand slipped behind your head to pull you closer.

“At your house or on the beach?” You brought up the last two instances where you two were rudely interrupted but you had to endure it. Rafe was a kook and you were a pogue. On this island, you’re supposed to hate each other but you don’t. You didn’t feel even an ounce of hatred for the tall blue-eyes blondie before you.

“Both,” he whispered right before you two closed your eyes and brought your lips closer to each other’s but they never made contact because you two were broke apart by people pulling you.

“Did he hurt you, y/n? Because if he did, I swear to God, I’ll-” JJ started as he looked you over to see if anything was wrong with you

“You’ll what, pogue?” Topper spat as his hands were wrapped around Rafe’s biceps.

“You don’t wanna know what I’ll do,” JJ snarled at the Thornton boy. You slipped out of JJ’s grip and turned to face him.

“Can we not fight right now?” You pleaded with him but he only returned you with a look of utter shock.

“Y/n? Did you not see what he was about to do? He was about to kiss you. How can you-”

“I wanted him to kiss me you idiot! I like him and I want him to be able to kiss me wherever we are but we have to hide because of you and the pogues and because of you and Kelce,” you shouted at JJ and Topper.

“If Sarah and John B can be together and everyone can be okay with it, why can’t it be the same for me and Rafe?” Both boys stayed silent while Rafe wore a proud grin.

“Now if you two don’t mind, I’m gonna kiss my boyfriend.” Your choice of words made Rafe’s smile grow as you waltzed over to him and planted your lips against his. The feeling was euphoric and it was even better now that y’all didn’t have to do it in private. Rafe could kiss you wherever and whenever now and he couldn’t be happier.

“You look beautiful, princess,” Rafe whispered in your ear as he passed you in the kitchen. You two were keeping your relationship a secret from everyone even your best friend who just so happened to be his sister.

“Keep it quiet, Rafe. Sarah will be down here any minute,” you warned but he wrapped his arms around you from behind and rested his head on your shoulder instead.

“What part of ‘Sarah will be down here any minute’ did you not understand?” You asked as you turned your head to meet his eye. He grinned before planted a small sweet kiss to your lips. You spun in his arms and placed your hands on either side of his face, deepening the kiss. You wanted to keep going, but the sound of footsteps coming closer to the kitchen broke you apart from him. You regretted it instantly because of the sad look on Rafe’s face but he saw your reason why when his parents walked in.

“Good morning kids,” Ward spoke tiredly as he shuffled to the fridge. Rose gave you two a weird look and a wave before she started on some coffee. Sarah trickled in a few moments later and gave you two the same weird look her step mother had just given you expect hers had a little more disgust in her twisted features.

“Rafe, get your hand off of my friend please,” she said harshly. You furrowed your brows before realizing that Rafe’s hand was on top of yours that was resting on the counter. He quickly removed it before muttering a ‘sorry’ and walking to the pantry.

Later on when Sarah left to hang out with John B, you left with her only to park a little ways down the road before you walked back to Tannyhill and snuck into Rafe’s room. When you opened his door, he glanced up at you then went back to his phone. You figured he was just busy doing something and brushed it off. When you got in and bed cuddled into his side, he didn’t wrap his arms around you and breathe in your scent like he normally does.

“You’re acting weird. What’s up?” You asked Rafe as you sat up. His sad eyes and thoughtful expression made you more worried and he sat up with you before longingly gazing into your eyes.

“I’m tired of hiding that I love you,” he pouted and didn’t even realize that he told you that he loved you for the first time.

“You what?” You questioned. His eyes widened at the realization before he spoke again.

“I love you, y/n, and I’m tired of hiding it,” he stated firmly. You leaped into his arms, an excited smile on your face.

“Then don’t. Don’t hide that you love me. I love you too,” you squealed as Rafe’s arms tightened around you.
