“I witnessed my friend Amber Heard go through the most devastating period of her life as her marriage ended last year. What I saw was not what the rest of the world saw. I simply could not fathom the level of vitriol and aggression that was aimed at her by paparazzi and online trolls—and how that almost broke her spirit. As a photographer there are times when I have to decide if it’s appropriate to invade a moment with my camera. This was one of those times. I shot this photograph in Amber’s apartment, where she was with the small group of women who’d been by her side during the chaos, just after she learned that her divorce had finally been settled. It was a moment of joy, relief, and sadness all in one.” - Amanda de Cadenet (Glamour magazine)

idk man the onlyfans comment is getting to me
in WHAT world do victims of domestic violence demand the sexual subjugation of their abusers? literally this is just men (AND WOMEN WHO CHOOSE MEN) celebrating the legal right of men to sexually torture and subjugate and humiliate women... by demanding the further sexual subjugation and humiliation of a woman who has already been through it.
anyone who says they're celebrating victims of domestic violence is just straight up lying

An organization I like to donate to is the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women, the only org in the US that works to defend victims of domestic violence who have been charged with crimes, usually for harming their abusers in self-defense, “failing to protect” their children in dv situations or “kidnapping” their children while fleeing violence. Thinking about them as we’re thinking about legal retaliation against domestic violence victims!

Besides the misogyny I feel like the key reason why you don't see female gender non conformity celebrated in popular culture/media the same way we're starting to see male gender non conformity celebrated is that it's not profitable or marketable... you can't exactly sell a lack of makeup and shaving products to women whereas selling all that femininity shit to men opens up a whole new demographic to make money off of

why do people think that decriminalizing prostitution and making it just like any other job will lead to like, rich, free, happy, independent, safe, healthy women instead of like… amazon operating brothels as miserable as its warehouses

Do I really need to add anything to this? If you still think porn is pro women and empowering then you’re delusional.

Up to 61% of bisexual women experience domestic violence, more than any other group. The number one reason for not seeking help is fear no one will believe them. After that, number two is the fear that they will face judgement around biphobic stereotypes like promiscuity and mental illness.
So nice of the world to prove us right.

amber heard finally gathering enough courage and strength to leave her abusive husband who is a very well regarded, powerful man was so incredibly brave.
to manage to unwillingly sit in a courtroom next to him, listening to his lies for 6 straight weeks. was so incredibly brave.
and i hope she knows that. she is so far beyond what the words strong and brave can even describe.
she literally faced “global humiliation” just as johnny said because she was strong. because she was brave. and left him.
i hope she can see and lean on the supports she has. because i can’t even imagine how damaging this is to her own mental health.

‘Men Always Win’: Survivors ‘Sickened’ by the Amber Heard Verdict (EJ Dickson, Rolling Stone, June 01 2022)
“She says the fact that the trial was broadcast and livestreamed for hundreds of thousands of people to consume as entertainment on a daily basis will continue to inflict damage even after the verdict.
“This could have been stopped weeks ago by the courts system,” she says.
Other experts on domestic abuse have been horrified watching the methods that are traditionally employed to discredit survivors — such as diagnosing them with a mental illness —
wielded on a global stage, with Dr. Shannon Curry, a clinical and forensic psychologist who testified on Depp’s behalf, diagnosing Heard, whom she has never treated, with borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder, inaccurately linking these conditions to physical abuse.
“I hear from women in the U.K., Canada. All the lawyers use the same tactics — they position them as hysterical, as gold-diggers, malicious, out for revenge, emotionally unstable, as having personality disorders,” says Taylor.
“It provides a model of discrediting the woman.” The Depp verdict, she says, will only make such tactics more common in a courtroom setting. (…)
By the time the culture in general comes to terms with the damage wrought by the trial and its coverage, it may be too late.
Heard may one day get the redemption arc afforded to previously villainized celebrity women, but it will likely be long after thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of women are silenced as the result of the verdict against her.
And survivors must deal with the implications attached to the verdict: that women who come forward against powerful men may not only not be believed, but actively punished.
“I’m sickened. This is a gag in the mouths of victims who were just beginning to speak,” Meghan said immediately after the verdict came in.
“I want to scream. I want to vomit. I want tear down every courthouse brick by brick because there is no justice to be had in our system of laws. [This] all sounds dramatic I suppose.
But when [Heard] wrote she felt the wrath of our culture, Depp took it as a personal challenge.””

The hypersexualized image of teens in film and television and the fact that teen porn is extremely popular and the fact that there’s a definite push to normalize men pursuing teenage girls are all interconnected and all related to the renormalization of pedophilia.

I seriously don’t understand the cognitive dissonance and mental gymnastics progressive people do to defend porn. Like, the big majority of them will fully recognize the affect media has on society. If you say something like “the lack of fat women on TV creates unrealistic expectations on women”, most will nod along. If you say “always portraying gay people dying by the end of a show will factor in the isolating feeling of lesbians and gays”, they’ll agree. But if you say “porn makes society see women as sex objects that exist exclusively for male pleasure” suddenly it doesn’t make sense? Suddenly porn is something completely apart and separated from consumed media and somehow impossible of influencing anyone? The same logic can not be applied because… what? 🤔
