2024 mar 12 // I’m a member of the Vintage & Collage Club and for this month’s project the theme was Library Pockets. This was really fun to play around with and so I made two library pockets with cards, I even made a cover to hold the pockets (bought the cover, a digital printable, from VibeofVintage at Ko-Fi).
And so here it is:

Hey FOLKS! Can we talk about that magical moment when Alma walked into the scene at the hotel in Phantom Thread? I mean, seriously, Vicky Krieps has this warmth about her that's downright enchanting! That smile of hers is like a burst of sunshine, and I totally get why Reynolds was taken with her.
Am I the only one who found myself completely charmed by Alma's introduction? That smile of hers just lights up the whole room, and I couldn't help but be drawn in. It's like she brought a ray of sunshine into Reynolds' meticulous world.
There's something about the way Vicky Krieps portrays Alma that feels so genuine and like she's sharing a piece of sunshine with the audience. Did anyone else feel this way? I can't be the only one who was smitten by her charm?!!!

“It’s a lot to take in, and Krieps gives a performance so emotionally responsive and minutely detailed that we can see Alma arriving at one crushing realization — she’s the latest model of many — before settling just as quickly into steely determination. Reynolds may be fitting her for a specific role, but he, too, will soon know how it feels to be whittled down to size.”

A Surprising Crush: Brian Gleeson in Phantom Thread
Hey Tumblr fam! Just finished watching Phantom Thread and, whoa, what a ride! Can we just take a moment to appreciate every detail of that masterpiece? 🎥✨ But let's talk about a particular moment that caught me off guard – when Reynolds got sick and they brought in Dr. Robert Hardy.
Now, maybe it's just me, but does anyone else think he looked oddly familiar? 🤔 And dare I say… attractive? Yep, I totally went there. But here's the kicker: turns out, Dr. Hardy is played by none other than Brian Gleeson! 🤯
Hold up, rewind. Brian Gleeson? The same guy who had me in stitches as Frank in "Frank of Ireland"? I couldn't believe it! Seeing him all clean-shaven and serious in Phantom Thread was a total game-changer. Talk about a versatile actor, am I right? 🙌
But let's get real for a sec – can we just appreciate how good he looked in that role? Like, really good. It's like seeing him in a whole new light! Props to the makeup and costume team for that transformation.
So, confession time: despite knowing it's Brian Gleeson, I couldn't shake off the feeling of finding Dr. Hardy oddly attractive. And hey, I'm not the only one, right? Let me know if anyone else had a similar revelation! 😅
Have you ever had a similar experience with an actor playing a completely different role? Share your thoughts! 💭

Sequel to: ASCENT - Defying Desire (ODD WOMEN Series) a 3AM update - SEVEN
A/N: In this chapter, we explore Henry's remarkable capabilities as a shrewd strategic executive and master manipulator.  Henry's effectiveness in achieving his goals is undeniable.  However, as the story unfolds, we also witness a satisfying wave of regret and realization washing over Henry.
Defying Desire
SEVEN
In a posh townhouse nestled within the city's bustling streets, Henry found himself lost in a sea of thoughts. The sleek and masculine interior of his abode mirrored his refined taste and style. With a glass of whisky in hand, he lounged in a plush chair, his mind consumed by memories of Sage. Regret weighed heavily on him as he replayed their past together. He had made a big mistake by ending their relationship, and now he longed to make things right.
Tumblr media
The room was dimly lit, casting shadows across his face as he took a sip of the amber liquid. Thoughts of Sage overwhelmed him, igniting a fire in his heart. He couldn't help but recall the passion they once shared, longing to feel her touch and reconnect with her on a deep level.
Although the board members were impressed by his strategic partnership with the app, it was Sage who held the key to his happiness. The business stuff seemed less important compared to the prospect of having her back in his life.
Lost in his thoughts, Henry grew more determined. He knew pursuing a former lover who had blocked all communication was risky, but it only fueled his desire to win Sage back. It became a challenge, a chance to prove that their love was worth fighting for.
In his mind, he pictured their reunion—a spark of electric chemistry reigniting between them. Every touch and whispered word would carry the weight of their shared history. Henry yearned to apologize for the past, to show Sage how much he regretted his actions and convince her that he had truly changed.
As the whisky burned his throat, matching the fire inside him, Henry realized he had to tread carefully. He couldn't just rush back into Sage's life; he had to find a way to break through her barriers.
The strategic partnership with the app offered him an opportunity to reach out to Sage, to discuss the collaboration and the impact it could have on their lives. Ideas swirled in Henry's mind on how to subtly reconnect, to show Sage that his feelings were still strong.
With determination, he set his glass down and stood up. Walking towards the window, he admired the twinkling city lights. A steely resolve emanated from him as he silently promised himself to make things right. He would find a way to win back Sage's trust and reignite their once-burning flame.
Late into the night, Henry's excitement grew. The strategic partnership had opened a door, and now he had to face the challenges ahead. Every passing moment fueled his determination to execute his plan flawlessly and prove to Sage that their love was worth any risk or sacrifice.
In the solitude of his luxurious townhouse, Henry felt a renewed sense of purpose. The whisky coursing through his veins emboldened him, driving his pursuit of his desires. The calculated move he made during the board meeting went beyond business—it was a way to bring Sage back into his arms, where she truly belonged.
----------
Kieran sat across from Sage in the cozy afternoon lounge, their teacups steaming gently on the table. The delightful aroma of freshly baked desserts, coffee, and tea filled the air, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The red brick walls and brown wooden accents gave the place a touch of dark academia aesthetic, adding to its charm.
As Kieran recounted the events of the boardroom meeting, Sage listened attentively. She had already shared with him the fact that Henry was her ex-boyfriend, so Kieran was familiar with their history. Their friendship and collaboration had allowed for open and honest conversations between them.
Sage's eyes met Kieran's, a mix of curiosity and concern reflecting in her gaze. She knew the potential conflict of interest arising from Kieran acquiring her app for his own company while also being associated with the Havel Group as a non-executive director. The situation had taken an unexpected turn with Henry's objection and proposal to buy the app or form a partnership.
Setting her teacup down gently on the table, Sage leaned forward, her voice filled with a blend of sincerity and determination. "Kieran, I never expected this to become so complicated. I appreciate your support in acquiring my app, but I also understand the concerns raised by Henry and the board."
Sage leaned forward, her eyes fixed on Kieran's, her voice filled with urgency. "Kieran, please, if there's any way you can ensure that the app doesn't end up in Henry's possession, I would be forever grateful. I have a suspicion that he's trying to use this as a way to force me to communicate with him again, and I can't allow that to happen. I've blocked him from all my channels for a reason, and I want to maintain my distance. I know it might sound presumptuous, but I've known Henry for a long time, and I can't shake the feeling that he's trying to manipulate the situation to his advantage."
Kieran nodded, understanding the gravity of Sage's words. "Sage, I trust your instincts, and I know you have a deep understanding of Henry's character. We shouldn't underestimate his determination and the lengths he might go to achieve his goals. Rest assured, I'll do everything in my power to keep the app out of his hands and protect you from any unwanted interactions.”
Sage's shoulders relaxed, a sense of relief washing over her. She appreciated Kieran's support and belief in her judgment. "Thank you, Kieran. It means a lot to have someone who understands and stands by me."
----------
As Kieran's Rolls Royce pulled up in front of the office building at Canary Wharf, Sage's attention shifted from the familiar surroundings to the task at hand. Stepping out of the car with purpose, she strode alongside Kieran towards the elevator, her mind focused on the upcoming boardroom meeting.
Navigating the bustling lobby with ease, Sage's determination propelled her forward. She had been to this building before, familiar with its polished halls and bustling energy. Canary Wharf was not uncharted territory for her.
Entering the elevator, Sage exchanged a knowing glance with Kieran, their shared determination palpable. They had meticulously prepared for this moment, ensuring their presentation was strong and persuasive. The ride up to the designated floor was filled with a sense of anticipation, their focus honed on making a compelling case.
As the elevator doors opened, Sage was greeted by Simon, Henry's older brother and the leader of the Havel Group. A warm smile spread across Simon's face as he approached her, enveloping her in a genuine hug. "Sage, it's so good to see you. How have you been?" he asked, a touch of surprise in his voice. "I didn't realize you were behind this app until today"
Sage returned the hug, appreciating the warmth and genuine concern from Henry's brother. "Thank you, Simon," she replied with a soft smile. "I've been well”
As they walked down the corridor towards the boardroom, Simon expressed his eagerness to hear Sage's explanation about the app. He emphasized the importance of her addressing the board directly to ensure a clear understanding of the app's purpose and its compatibility with the Havel Group's businesses.
Entering the boardroom, Sage took her seat at the table, surrounded by the familiar faces of the board members. Among them were Henry's brothers, who held executive positions within the Havel Group. As she looked around, she noticed their smiles of recognition, accompanied by a warmth that conveyed a sense of familiarity and fondness.
Sage met their gazes, returning their smiles with a nod of acknowledgement. Despite the complexities of her past with Henry, it seemed that his brothers still held a level of respect and appreciation for her. It was a reassuring reminder that she had made a positive impression on them during her time with Henry.
With unwavering conviction, Sage highlighted the app's potential to revolutionize the industry and create new opportunities for growth. She stressed that by allowing Kieran's company to maintain ownership and control over the app, it would be able to flourish independently, fostering innovation and agility.
Furthermore, Sage outlined the potential risks and challenges that could arise from integrating the app into the Havel Group. She emphasized the importance of preserving the app's brand identity and user experience, which could be compromised if it became just another division of the conglomerate.
Drawing upon her own experiences as the app's creator and the deep understanding she had gained from working closely with Kieran, Sage eloquently expressed her belief that the best path forward was to allow Kieran's company to continue nurturing and developing the app independently. She emphasized that this would ensure the app's continued success and allow it to reach its full potential.
As Sage concluded her presentation, there was a moment of contemplative silence in the boardroom. The board members exchanged glances, processing the weight of Sage's arguments. Her passion and persuasive delivery had made an impact, causing them to rethink the initial assumption of absorbing the app into the Havel Group.
Henry's voice broke the silence, his tone brimming with confidence. "I understand Sage's concerns, but I believe we should view this app as an incredible asset for the Havel Group," he proclaimed, capturing the attention of the board members.
Henry proceeded to outline his vision for incorporating the app into the company, highlighting the potential benefits it could bring. He argued that by embracing the app's community platform, the Havel Group could expand its offerings, attract new customers, and enhance its overall retail experience.
Sage's heart sank as she listened to Henry's counterarguments. She knew that her app was not meant to compete with the Havel Group's existing retail business. It served as a platform for individuals to buy and sell a wide range of items and services, catering to a different market segment altogether.
Summoning her courage, Sage raised her hand, signaling her desire to respond. All eyes turned back to her, awaiting her rebuttal.
"Sage," Henry interjected, his voice laced with concern and authority, "I appreciate your dedication to the app, but I genuinely believe that it can thrive within the Havel Group. We can leverage our brand reputation and resources to take it to new heights."
Sage locked eyes with Henry, firm in her convictions. "Henry, I understand your perspective, but it's important to recognize that my app doesn't pose a direct threat to the Havel Group's retail business. It operates in a different space, empowering individuals to engage in peer-to-peer transactions and services."
She continued, eloquently explaining the potential risks of integrating the app into the Havel Group. "By aligning the app with a luxury-focused brand, we run the risk of diluting its unique identity. Users value the app for its inclusive nature and its ability to cater to a wide range of needs and budgets. Merging it with the Havel Group could compromise that appeal."
Sage went on to emphasize the importance of maintaining the app's independent image and allowing it to grow organically within its own niche. She painted a vivid picture of how integration could blur its purpose and alienate its loyal user base.
As Sage finished speaking, a charged silence filled the boardroom. The board members exchanged contemplative glances, grappling with the decision at hand. They now had to weigh the allure of Henry's proposal against Sage's compelling arguments for preserving the app's integrity and unique market positioning
The boardroom fell into a hushed pause as the members took a break to deliberate on the weighty decision before them. Sensing the tension in the room, Kieran rose from his seat, gesturing for Sage to join him outside. They stepped out into the hallway, the sound of their footsteps echoing softly.
Sage looked at Kieran, a mix of hope and concern in her eyes. "Kieran, if the board decides to go with the Havel Group, is there any way you can ensure that the app doesn't end up in Henry's hands? I know we have a partnership on the table, but I worry about the consequences if he gains control over it. As a non-executive director, do you have the power or influence to prevent that? Also, I mentioned before, I have a suspicion that he's using this situation to manipulate me into communicating with him again, and I can't allow that to happen. I've blocked him from all my channels for a reason, and I want to maintain my distance."
He took a reassuring step closer, his voice filled with determination. "I get it, Sage. I'll do everything I can to prevent the app from falling into Henry's hands. I may not have full control, but I'll use my influence and connections to find a solution. You won't be forced into any unwanted communication. I'll prioritize your well-being and protect the app's vision."
Sage felt relieved, a small smile forming on her face. "Thank you, Kieran. I trust you to do your best. Let's present our case with strength, and no matter what happens, we'll find a way to keep the app with someone who respects its purpose and my boundaries."
Encouraged by their shared determination, they returned to the boardroom, ready to make their final stand.
----------
As the discussion resumed, the board members deliberated on the future of the app. After careful consideration, they reached a consensus—the Havel Group would acquire the app from Kieran at a substantial price as compensation for his company's efforts and resources invested in its development.
Sage listened to the decision, her heart pounding with mixed emotions. On one hand, she was relieved that the app would not fall into Henry's hands, ensuring her continued distance from him. However, as she contemplated the outcome, a tinge of sadness washed over her. It wasn't the prospect of parting ways with the app itself that saddened her, but rather the possibility of not working closely with Kieran in integrating the app with his company.
Over time, Sage had formed a strong bond with Kieran, appreciating his dedication, support, and shared vision for the app. They had become a formidable team, and the idea of not collaborating further with him felt like a missed opportunity. Their partnership had propelled the app's success, and the thought of not continuing that journey together left a void in her heart.
As she processed these emotions, Sage reminded herself of the bigger picture. The decision to join forces with the Havel Group brought numerous advantages and opportunities for growth. She understood that this collaboration would open doors to new resources, expertise, and a larger user base. It was a chance to take the app to new heights and make an even greater impact.
Still, she couldn't help but feel a sense of loss mingled with anticipation. It was a bittersweet realization that change was inevitable, and that she would have to adapt to a new dynamic. But deep down, Sage held onto the hope that her journey with Kieran and the app was merely taking a different path—one that would lead to even greater achievements and fulfillment.
Kieran turned to Sage, his expression a mix of understanding and resolve. Sensing the weight of the decision, he guided her to a quiet corner of the boardroom, away from the prying eyes and eager voices.
"Sage," Kieran began, his tone gentle yet resolute, "they've agreed to buy the app from me at a high price. It's a significant compensation, and it ensures that the app won't be under Henry's control. I believe this is the best course of action to protect your boundaries and the app's integrity. What do you think?"
Sage looked into Kieran's eyes, appreciating his concern and the trust he had placed in her. Her mind raced with thoughts and emotions, torn between holding onto something she had poured her heart into and the need to protect herself from Henry's influence.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes for a moment, gathering her thoughts. When she opened them, a sense of clarity washed over her. She knew deep down that Kieran's proposal was the practical and wise choice.
"Kieran," Sage said, her voice steady, "If you believe this is the best way forward, then I trust your judgment. Let's proceed with the sale and ensure that the app continues to thrive under new ownership. I understand the importance of protecting myself and the app's integrity."
Kieran nodded, a hint of relief in his eyes. and then he took her hand in his, offering a reassuring squeeze.  "Sage, I want to reiterate my promise to you. I will go above and beyond to protect you from any unwanted interactions with Henry," he declared, his voice filled with resolve. "I understand how important maintaining your boundaries is, and I'll do everything within my power to ensure your safety and well-being."
Sage felt a rush of gratitude and relief wash over her, knowing that Kieran was resolute in his pledge to shield her from any discomfort. She appreciated his genuine concern and the weight of his words, knowing that he truly had her best interests at heart.
A small smile tugged at the corners of Sage's lips as she met Kieran's gaze, her eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and trust. "Thank you, Kieran," she replied, her voice soft yet filled with appreciation.
Returning to the boardroom, Kieran and Sage took their seats, their minds still processing the weight of the decision that had just been made. The air was filled with anticipation as Simon Havel, the chairman of the Havel Group, stood up once again, commanding everyone's attention.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Simon began, his voice commanding yet filled with warmth, "I want to express my gratitude to Kieran and Sage for their willingness to work with us on this matter. We recognize the value of the app and the expertise that Sage brings to the table."
He turned his gaze towards Sage, his eyes conveying a sense of respect and admiration. "Sage, we would like to offer you a position as a consultant, working closely with a team from the Havel Group. Your role will be crucial in ensuring a seamless transition as the app is integrated into our operations."
Simon paused for a moment, allowing his words to sink in. "Rest assured, Sage, you will be compensated generously for your contributions, both as the app's designer and developer, and as a valuable consultant during this process. Your expertise and insights will be invaluable in ensuring the success of the app within the Havel Group."
Sage listened intently, a mix of emotions swirling within her. The opportunity to continue working with the app, even in a different capacity, excited her. It meant she could still contribute to its growth and see her creation flourish. At the same time, she felt a sense of validation in being recognized for her skills and expertise.
She glanced at Kieran, a silent acknowledgement passing between them. This was the best outcome they could have hoped for—a way to protect the app's integrity and her own boundaries while still staying involved in its journey.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Sage turned her attention back to Simon. "Thank you, Simon. I appreciate the offer and the opportunity to continue working with the app. I’ll do my very best to ensure a smooth transition, and support the apps integration into Havel group"
Simon nodded, a smile playing on his lips. "Excellent. We look forward to having you on board, Sage. Let's work together to make this a mutually beneficial partnership."
As the meeting continued, discussions shifted towards the logistical aspects of the app's transfer and the collaborative efforts that would be required to integrate it successfully.
As the discussions in the boardroom delved into the intricate details of the app's transfer, Henry's mind churned with a mix of ambition and determination. A cunning smile played at the corners of his lips, a telltale sign of the strategizing taking place within.
His gaze repeatedly drifted towards Sage, an unmistakable glint of longing and mischief hidden behind his eyes. Unbeknownst to Sage, Henry couldn't help but steal glances, his mind silently concocting plans on how to once again bring the project under his control.
While the room buzzed with logistical considerations, Henry's attention remained fixated on Sage. Memories of their shared past danced at the edges of his consciousness, fueling his desire to reconnect with her on both a personal and professional level.
However, as the discussion continued, Henry knew he had to bide his time. The Havel Group's acquisition of the app had set the stage for his eventual involvement, but he had to tread carefully to win back Sage's trust. He understood the importance of patience and subtlety, realizing that rushing in would only risk pushing her further away.
And so, with a mask of professionalism and a heart brimming with hidden intentions, Henry kept his glances fleeting, concealing his true motives for now. The allure of Sage and the potential of reclaiming the project were challenges he relished, and he was determined to seize the opportunity when the time was right.
Unbeknownst to Sage, a subtle dance of calculated maneuvers had begun, as Henry plotted his next move in the intricate game of winning her back.
Careful not to reveal his true intentions, Henry maintained a facade of cooperation and enthusiasm during the discussions. He skillfully inserted comments and suggestions that subtly positioned him as the ideal candidate to oversee the app's integration. His past accomplishments within the Havel Group and his familiarity with its operations served as a compelling argument for why he should take charge.
In private, Henry planned further, contemplating the steps necessary to win over the key decision-makers. He identified the individuals whose support he needed and crafted tailored approaches to sway them to his side. With every move, he carefully maneuvered, weaving a web of influence and manipulation to ensure that the app would fall into his hands.
--------
After the initial board meeting, Kieran and Simon Havel quickly arranged another meeting to introduce Aria Hayes as the new director for the app project. Two days later, everyone gathered in the boardroom, feeling a mix of anticipation and curiosity.
Simon Havel entered the room with a confident stride, followed closely by a poised and determined Aria Hayes. Sage's eyes met Aria's, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of reassurance and respect emanating from the new director.
"Thank you all for joining us today," Simon began, his voice carrying a tone of significance. "As we discussed in our previous meeting, we have appointed Aria Hayes to oversee the app project. Aria brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role, and we believe she is the ideal candidate to guide the project forward."
Aria smiled at the team, her eyes filled with determination. "Hey, everyone! I'm really excited to be here. I've seen what you've accomplished so far, and I can't wait to work with all of you to take this app to the next level."
Kieran stepped forward, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "I've had the pleasure of working with Aria before, and let me tell you, she's a good manager. With her in charge, you’re in good hands."
Sage felt a wave of relief. She spoke up, her voice genuine and appreciative. "Thank you, Aria. It means a lot to have you on board. I'm confident that together, we'll make this app a huge success."
With the introductions done, the team left the boardroom, feeling motivated. Unbeknownst to them, Henry had been silently observing, waiting for his moment to make his move.
----------
Under Aria's capable leadership, the team meetings and integration of the app progressed smoothly. Her management style impressed the team, earning their respect and trust. They worked together seamlessly, addressing any challenges that arose.
Sage, still involved in the project's integration, visited the office twice a week to ensure everything was on track and manage her part. The team collaborated closely, discussing and implementing new features and upgrades that would enhance the app's value for the next update.
One evening, the team decided to have a casual dinner at the office. They ordered takeout and gathered around a long table, enjoying the meal together. Laughter filled the room as they shared stories and celebrated their progress. The camaraderie among the team members was evident, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
Unbeknownst to them, Henry, driven by his own hidden agenda, had been covertly observing their interactions. From a distance, he watched as they enjoyed their dinner, unaware of the plans he was formulating in the shadows. His gaze lingered on Sage, his mind filled with manipulative schemes to disrupt and seize control of the project.
----------
As Sage gathered the empty takeout containers into a trash bag, she realized she was the last one left in the meeting room. Aria had been called for an urgent online meeting and had hurriedly left, not noticing the time. The rest of the team had promised to take turns cleaning up, but Sage insisted it was no trouble and encouraged Aria to attend her meeting.
Carrying the bag of trash, Sage made her way towards the pantry. The office was now eerily quiet, with only a few executives scattered about, engrossed in their work. Unbeknownst to her, Henry was among them, lurking in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to make his move.
As Sage entered the pantry, she was momentarily startled to find Henry standing there, seemingly by chance. A sense of unease washed over her, but she maintained her composure, reminding herself to stay vigilant. She had learned to trust her instincts when it came to Henry's intentions.
"Henry," Sage greeted him with a polite nod, keeping a safe distance. "What brings you here?"
Henry took a sip from his tea cup, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Ah, Sage, my dear. I work here, remember?" he replied with a hint of playfulness in his voice.
Sage raised an eyebrow, not easily swayed by his charm. "Yes, Henry, I'm aware of that. I meant, what specifically brings you to the pantry at this moment?"
Henry chuckled, a twinkle in his eyes. "Well, Sage, it's a rather revolutionary concept I discovered. They call it 'taking a break.' A remarkable practice that involves momentarily escaping the clutches of work to indulge in some tea and solitude."
Sage arched an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "Tea in the pantry, Henry? That's an interesting choice."
Henry leaned against the pantry shelves, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Ah, the pantry, the perfect spot for a break! It's where we escape from work for a moment, sip some tea, and grab a snack. You see, Sage, that's what the pantry is all about."
Sage chuckled, realizing the straightforwardness of Henry's response. "You're right, Henry. The pantry is meant for taking a breather and enjoying a refreshment."
Henry raised his tea cup, emphasizing his point. "Exactly! It's a place of respite where tea and snacks become our allies against stress. So, here I am, embracing the true purpose of the pantry."
Sage nodded, a smile on her face. "Well, in that case, I won't disturb your break any longer. Enjoy your time in the pantry, Henry."
Henry smirked, taking another sip of his tea. "Thank you, Sage. And remember, when you need a break, the pantry is always waiting for you.”
With a nod and a friendly smile, Sage left the pantry, amused by Henry's direct reminder of the pantry's true purpose as a space for snacks and taking breaks.
----------
After a long and exhausting day at work, Sage decides to treat herself to a well-deserved drink at a nearby upscale bar. She enters the establishment, appreciating the sophisticated ambiance and cozy atmosphere. She finds a comfortable booth and settles in, ordering a refreshing Magners cider and a couple of light beers, including a Stella Artois.
As she sips her drink, her mind drifts to thoughts of her work progress and the desire to eventually move on from the Havel Group. Lost in her contemplation, Sage is suddenly pulled out of her reverie by the appearance of Henry, who takes a seat across from her at the booth. She looks up, her expression shifting to one of cautious defensiveness.
Her guard up, Sage questions Henry's presence. "What are you doing here, Henry?" she asks, a touch of suspicion lacing her words.
Henry leans back, a casual smile on his face. "Ah, Sage, what a delightful surprise. Just enjoying my usual haunt, as it happens to be nearby," he replies, his tone laced with nonchalance.
Sage's eyes narrow slightly, not fully convinced by his explanation. "Your usual haunt, huh? Funny how we seem to keep running into each other."
Henry raises an eyebrow, his expression shifting to a more matter-of-fact demeanor. "Yes, Sage, quite intriguing indeed. You see, this particular establishment happens to be the nearest pub to our workplace. It's merely a matter of proximity and practicality."
Sage's mind acknowledges the sense in Henry's explanation, but a hint of doubt still lingers. She can't help but feel there may be more to his presence than mere coincidence. The way he effortlessly rationalizes it leaves her speechless.
As Sage takes a sip from her pint, contemplating her next move, Henry suddenly reaches out to grab her car keys from the table. Startled, Sage looks at him questioningly.
"What do you think you're doing?" she asks, her tone tinged with both surprise and suspicion.
Henry shrugs, a mischievous smile forming on his lips. "I can't let you drink and drive, can I? Safety first, Sage."
Sage chuckles, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "Oh, how thoughtful of you, Henry. But let me remind you that you're here to enjoy your evening, not play the responsible driver."
Henry's smile widens, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Ah, you've got me there. I suppose I haven't started drinking yet. But don't worry, I'll hold onto your car keys just in case."
Sage stares at him for a moment, a mix of amusement and disbelief crossing her face. "Fine, if it makes you feel better. You can have my car keys. Just promise not to drive my car into any mischief, Henry."
Henry raises his hand, as if taking an oath. "I solemnly swear not to drive your car into any mischief, Sage. Your keys are safe with me."
With a smile and a shake of her head, Sage finishes her pint in one go and stands up. "Well, in that case, enjoy your evening, Henry. Don't get into too much trouble."
Henry grins, holding up Sage's car keys triumphantly. "No promises, Sage. Have a good night!"
As Sage walks away, she can't help but chuckle at the absurdity of the situation. Henry's playful antics always manage to catch her off guard.
Inside the pub, Henry watches Sage through the window glass, expecting her to put up a fight for her car keys. However, to his surprise, she doesn't. Instead, she calmly walks away, leaving him puzzled.
Curiosity gets the better of him as he continues to observe her. His eyes widen in disbelief when he sees Sage walk to her car and retrieve a spare set of keys from her bag. She effortlessly unlocks the car, and a realization dawns upon Henry. His assumption was correct all along.
A surge of urgency fills Henry as he realizes he needs to act quickly. He springs into action, his mind racing to catch up with the situation unfolding before him. He rushes out of the pub, determined to catch up with Sage before she drives away.
From the corner of her eye, Sage notices Henry's hurried departure from the pub. A mischievous smile tugs at the corners of her lips as she believes she has outsmarted him. With a sense of satisfaction, she locks the car doors using the interior locking mechanism and starts the engine, ready to drive off.
As Henry reaches the car, he notices Sage's smile and her deliberate ignorance of his presence. Undeterred, he knocks on the window, gesturing for her to open the door. Sage maintains her playful demeanor, continuing to smile and pretending not to hear him.
Little does Sage know, she has forgotten one crucial detail. Henry holds her other set of car keys in his hand. With a smirk on his face, he presses the unlock button on the key, sending a signal to Sage's car. To her surprise, she hears the familiar sound of the car doors unlocking.
Her triumphant expression quickly fades into a sigh of defeat as Henry opens the passenger door and smoothly slides into the passenger seat. Sage glances at him, a mixture of annoyance and amusement in her eyes. It seems her attempt to outmaneuver him has once again fallen short. Sage lets out a sigh, a mix of exasperation and amusement. "You always find a way, don't you, Henry?"
Sage lets out a tired sigh, leaning against her steering wheel as she looks at Henry, who is sitting comfortably in the passenger seat with a mischievous grin on his face. She raises an eyebrow and asks, "Alright, Henry, what do you want now?"
Henry's playful expression softens, replaced by a more serious demeanor. "Sage, all I want is for you to be safe. You've had a few pints, and it's not a good idea to drive in that state. Let me give you a ride home."
Sage lets out another sigh, her voice tinged with frustration. "Henry, if I were to give you what you want, sleep with you? would you finally leave me alone? Is that all this is about?"
Henry's expression turns somber as he registers her words, a mixture of hurt and longing in his eyes. "Sage, it's not just about that. I know I've made mistakes, but I want more than just a physical connection with you. I want you back in my life, not just as a passing flame , but to rebuild what we had. I want you back in every way possible."
Sage's chuckle escapes her lips, laced with a mixture of bitterness and understanding. She looks directly into Henry's eyes, her gaze unwavering. "You know, Henry, when I visited Thailand a few weeks back, I went to the temple to meet with an old sixth form classmate who was serving as a monk at that time. In the serene halls of a temple, he shared profound wisdom with me."
Henry leans in closer, captivated by Sage's story and the depth of her emotions.
Sage's voice quivers with a newfound clarity, the weight of her words hanging heavily in the air. "He told me something that struck me to my core, Henry. He said, 'Before you tear yourself apart, take a piercing look at those you choose to keep close.' And in that moment, the truth unfolded before me like a devastating revelation. Henry... in that moment, I realized that you were a significant part of the pain and insecurity I experienced."
Henry's face pales as the impact of Sage's words hits him with full force. The realization dawns on him, a crushing weight settling upon his shoulders. He reaches out, his voice choked with regret. "Sage, I never meant to be the source of your pain. I never wanted to be the cause of your insecurity."
Sage's eyes glisten with unshed tears, a mix of sadness and resignation etched across her face. "But you were, Henry. You were the one who held the power to shatter my confidence and break my spirit.”  She pauses, her gaze piercing through him. " Yes you never cheated on me, but you tried to mold me into what you wanted, Henry. And when I refused to yield, you resorted to manipulative tactics to get me to do your bidding. You enjoyed making me jealous, playing with my emotions. And I can't bear to be caught in that web of uncertainty any longer. "
Her words hang in the air, the weight of truth finally spoken. Sage waits, hoping that her words will finally penetrate the layers of Henry's self-serving facade and make him realize the impact of his actions.
Henry's eyes widen as the weight of his actions sinks in. His lips part, searching for the right words to defend himself, but they fail him. He realizes now the damage he has caused, the pain he has inflicted, not through physical betrayal, but through emotional manipulation.
"I never meant for it to go this far, Sage," Henry finally manages to whisper, his voice laced with regret. "I thought I could keep you close by doing what I do, but I do see now how misguided and hurtful it was."
Sage's eyes shimmer with a mix of sadness and frustration. "Henry, love should never be a game. It should never be about making someone feel inadequate or insecure. It should be about trust, respect, and building each other up. I deserve better than this constant cycle of manipulation."
In that moment, the realization of their toxic dance settles upon them, a bittersweet recognition that they can no longer continue down this destructive path.
Sage's voice quivers as she takes a deep breath, her emotions palpable. "Henry... I've let you go, just like you wanted before. It's time for you to do the same for me." Her words hang in the air, heavy with finality and a tinge of sadness.
Henry's heart sinks at the realization of his own role in their breakup. The memory of that conversation, when he asked for the separation and suggested they explore other possibilities, resurfaces with a pang of regret. He never anticipated the depth of his feelings and the void that would consume him in her absence.
Henry's heart sinks at the thought of losing her. Memories of their shared adventures, the moments of joy and connection they once had flood his mind. He remembers the worry that consumed him when she embarked on her dangerous expedition to the summit of Mount Everest, how he yearned for her safety and well-being. The months without her presence, her deliberate blocking of him in every channel, had been excruciatingly difficult.
He buried himself in work, trying to distract himself from the void she left behind. He sought solace in the allure of freedom, parties, and the temporary flings with other women. But as time passed, the emptiness grew, and he realized that he couldn't let her go. Not without a fight.
Henry's voice cracks as he tries to articulate the depth of his regret. " I... I never expected it to be like this. I never realized how much I would miss you, how much I need you in my life. Please, give me another chance. I've learned my lesson in the hardest way possible. I've come to realize that I never wanted anyone else. It's always been you, even when I couldn't see it clearly. Please, don't give up on us just yet."
Sage gazes at him, torn between the pain of the past and the lingering love she still holds for him. She sees the sincerity in his eyes, the genuine remorse etched on his face. A part of her yearns to believe in the possibility of redemption and growth.
But another part of her fears the cycle repeating, the old patterns resurfacing. She takes a moment to collect herself, her voice soft but resolute. "Henry, I appreciate your honesty and the growth you've shown in recognizing your mistakes. But love is not just about the depth of feelings; it's about compatibility, trust, and mutual respect. The patterns that emerged in our relationship showed me that our needs and desires were not aligning. I don't need you to change who you are, but I do need a relationship that fulfills me in the ways I deserve."
She pauses, searching for the right words to convey her innermost sentiments. "I felt used, like a toy being played with, manipulated to fulfill your desires. And love should never make one feel that way. I don't want to resent you or view you as an enemy. Instead, I want to find a way to love you from afar, to wish you all the best, and to move forward in my own journey without holding onto the pain and resentment that clouded our relationship."
"Henry, I do care about you, and a part of me will always cherish what we shared. But I also know that I deserve a love that uplifts me and allows me to be my authentic self. And I hope you can find the same for yourself."
Henry's world shatters as Sage's words sink in. He realizes, with a heavy heart, that he has been madly in love with her all this time, but it's a realization that comes too late. The depth of his feelings for her hits him like a wave of regret, and he can't bear the thought of a life without her.
His voice quivers as he bares his soul, "Sage, I have to confess... I've been in love with you all along. Losing you has made me see how much I truly need you in my life."
His eyes glisten with unshed tears as he continues, his voice filled with raw vulnerability,  "I can't change what has happened, and I can't undo the mistakes I've made. But if you can find it in your heart to give us another chance, I promise to spend every moment making it right. "
Henry leans in closer, his voice barely above a whisper, "I know I messed up, and I can't guarantee that I won't stumble again. But if you're willing, I'll love you with everything I have. I'll be devoted to you, I -”
Sage's looks away, heart aches as she witnesses the raw vulnerability in Henry's words and expression. Part of her longs to give in, to believe in the possibility of a renewed love. But her obstinacy remains resolute, a shield protecting her wounded heart.
She avoids meeting his gaze, her eyes fixed on the unmoving scenery outside the car. The weight of silence fills the space between them, the unspoken  tension hanging heavy in the air. Sage takes a deep breath, gathering her strength.
"Henry," she says softly, her voice tinged with a mix of sadness and determination,  "Could please return my spare car keys," Without another word, Sage extends her hand, silently asking for her car keys back.
Henry's face falls, a mixture of resignation and heartache evident in his eyes. He reluctantly retrieves the spare car keys from his pocket, placing them in her outstretched hand. Their fingers brush briefly, a lingering touch that carries a world of unsaid emotions.
"Sage," Henry says, his voice filled with genuine worry, "I can't let you drive in this state. It's not safe. Let me take you home."
Sage chuckles weakly, shaking her head. "Have I not made myself clear, Henry? I appreciate your concern, but I'll manage. Please respect my decision."
Understanding dawns in Henry's eyes as he recognizes the importance of honoring her wishes. Reluctantly, he retracts the spare car keys, realizing that pushing her further would only cause more harm. He reaches for his phone instead.
"I may not have given up, Sage," Henry says quietly, his voice filled with a mix of determination and concern, "but what matters most to me right now is your safety. I'll call my personal chauffeur to drive you home in your car. Please accept this gesture, for your own well-being."
Sage looks at him, her expression softened by his genuine care. After a brief moment of consideration, she nods in agreement. Henry swiftly makes the call,  providing the necessary instructions to his chauffeur, and within minutes, his chauffeur arrives.
As the chauffeur approaches, Henry and Sage gets out her car. He opens the door of the passenger seat behind for her, a small gesture of care, and motioned for her to take the passenger seat in the back. Without a word, Sage gets in, her gaze fixed straight ahead.
Henry's heart breaks as he watches her retreat into the car, knowing that he must let her go for now. However, a flicker of hope remains within him, refusing to extinguish. He hasn't given up yet. As the chauffeur takes his position in the driver's seat and starts the engine, Henry's eyes meet Sage's.
Henry leans in, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder, his voice laced with unspoken longing. "Please take care, Sage," Henry says softly, his eyes locked with hers,
Sage offers him a faint smile, a mix of gratitude and sadness. "Thank you, Henry," she says, her voice filled with a touch of vulnerability. "I appreciate your concern."
Henry watches, his heart heavy with emotions, as the car begins to pull away. His gaze lingers on Sage until her car disappears into the distance.
A/N: In this chapter, we get to see just how determined and strong-willed Sage is. Her unwavering resolve and shining backbone leave us in awe of her character. And let's not forget about Henry! It's quite satisfying to witness him finally realizing his biggest mistake. But hey, I know some of you might be thinking, "Why can't she just forgive him already?" Well, I'm all for a good life lesson here. We want Henry to truly learn from his errors and grow as a person, don't we? Remember, regret can be a tough pill to swallow, but it plays a crucial part in Henry's personal journey. Let's keep rooting for both of them, knowing that growth and redemption often come hand in hand.

Defying Desire
SIX
"So you were professionally-zoned," Charles remarks, unable to contain his frustration as he brings up Sage, his father's recent date that he met a week ago when he dropped by their old home.
Kieran's face reddens slightly as he tries to find the right words. "Well... you see, I couldn't just let that app slip through my fingers, and I..."
Vi interrupts with an exasperated sigh, her voice filled with both seriousness and humor. "Da, seriously? You couldn't resist talking business with someone you were interested in? You should have been whispering sweet nothings, not analyzing profit margins!"
Auryn, trying to make sense of the situation, raises an eyebrow and looks at his older brother. "Wait, hold on. Are you telling me you actually started dating someone? And this is how it went down?"
Vi, still frustrated with her father's tendency to mix business with romance, seizes the opportunity to remind him of a past dating blunder. Her voice carries a mischievous tone as she says, "And what about Ms. Ingrid Hawkes, Da? Remember how you let her slip through your fingers? It was the same story. Instead of wooing her, you were too busy talking shop. You've got a thing for these clever, capable women, but can't seem to close the deal!"
The table erupts into laughter, the tension dissipating with each chuckle. Kieran, his face still slightly flushed, joins in the mirth, realizing the comical predicament he found himself in.
Vi's voice turned serious, "Da, I have to wonder, are you intentionally seeking out girlfriends who have a tendency to shoot you? Is it some sort of bizarre criteria you have for a successful relationship? 'Must be capable of wielding a firearm and willing to use it if things go wrong.' Is that what you're looking for?" She paused for a moment, "Maybe you should consider revising your dating checklist, just a thought."
Charles and Auryn erupted into laughter, their shoulders shaking as they recalled the infamous incident of Kieran getting shot during his time as the Section Chief at an government intelligence agency. While it had been a frightening and serious ordeal back then, the passage of time had allowed the family to find humor in the situation. Now, they couldn't resist teasing Kieran about it, sharing exaggerated versions of the story and playfully imitating his shocked expression. It had become a lighthearted inside joke within the family.
Kieran raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Well, Vi, I suppose I have a unique taste in women. After all, nothing says 'relationship material' like someone who's willing to shoot me in the name of love." He shrugged, a wry smile playing on his lips.
Vi raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Dad, I think it's time you give up on finding a girlfriend who's like your ex. Let's aim for someone who designs beautiful things instead of designing dangerous missions. Trust me, it'll save us from any unexpected explosions during family dinners," she quipped, earning a round of laughter from her brother and uncle.
Kieran chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Vi, my darling, I've had my Let's just say I've learned my lesson. From now on, I'm on the lookout for someone who is more 'designer dress' than 'secret agent attire.' No more bullets, just beauty!" He grinned, adding a wink for dramatic effect.
The family burst into laughter, their amusement echoing through the restaurant. Vi couldn't help but roll her eyes playfully at her father's quip. Charles erupted into uncontrollable giggles, almost causing him to spill his drink. Even Auryn, typically composed, couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head
Charles chimed in with a mischievous grin. "Hey, Da, don't give up just yet, You can still break free from the professional-zone. Take her on a romantic date, show her a side of you that's not all business. It's time to switch gears and make your move!"
Auryn, with his dark blond hair catching the light, leaned forward inquisitively. "So, Kieran, spill the beans. What's the deal with this app and the woman you're into? I'm dying to know what's got you so hooked."
Charles, always tech-savvy, grabbed his phone and began furiously typing. "Alright, let me do some detective work here. Give me a sec... Ah, got it!" He paused for a moment, his eyes widening in recognition. "Hold on a second. This is that community app everyone's been raving about, right? It's got a huge following and people seem to love it."
The rest of the family leaned in, their curiosity getting the better of them. They exchanged glances, excitement brewing as they realized the significance of the app and its connection to Kieran's romantic interest. The conversation veered off into a lively discussion about the app's practicality and the woman who brought it to life.
Auryn's curiosity got the better of him, and he couldn't help but ask, "Hey, Kieran, do you have a picture of her? I'm dying to see what she looks like."
Kieran shrugged, a sheepish smile spreading across his face. "Actually, I don't have a picture of her. We've been so engrossed in conversations and getting to know each other that we haven't really taken any pictures together."
Auryn's eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait, you're interested in her, and you don't even have a picture? How can you not have a picture, Kieran? That's like, the first thing you do!"
Vi chimed in, playfully scolding her father. "Honestly, Da, I thought you were better than this. How can you be interested in someone and not have a single picture to show? You're slacking, my friend."
Meanwhile, Charles, ever the resourceful one, simply tapped away on his phone, his fingers dancing across the screen. "No worries, guys. I've got this. Let me just work my magic and find out everything there is to know about her."
As Charles delved deeper into his online search, his eyes widened with excitement. He discovered Sage's designer profile, showcasing an artsy black and white photo of her. The image portrayed her beauty and creativity in an enchanting way. Without wasting a second, Charles eagerly showed the photo to his sister and uncle.
Vi's jaw dropped in awe as she admired Sage's stunning image. "Wow, she's gorgeous! Da, you really know how to pick 'em!"
Auryn, on the other hand, had a different reaction. His eyes widened in surprise as he recognized Sage. "Wait! That's Sage Lennox," he exclaimed, unable to contain his astonishment.
Kieran looked at his younger brother in confusion. "How do you know her, Auryn?"
Auryn's eyes widen, and he fumbles for words before finally admitting, "Well, we actually had a certificate class together at UAL." His voice trails off, and there's a hint of nostalgia in his tone, suggesting a deeper connection.
Vi, sensing her uncle's hidden feelings, grins mischievously. "Oh, Uncle Auryn had a secret crush, didn't you?"
Auryn's cheeks turn a shade of pink as he tries to deflect the attention. "It was just a passing fancy. We were both focused on our studies, and nothing more."
But his frustration quickly surfaces, and he adds with a hint of annoyance, "Although, I have to say, it was frustrating to see how Sage was being treated back then. I witnessed a few heated arguments between her and that Henry Havel,” (A/N: I actually changed their surnames a bit)
Vi, always quick to pick up on the dynamics, teases him with a mischievous smile. "Oh, Uncle Auryn, your jealousy is showing!"
Charles, intrigued by the mention of Henry Havel, asks curiously, "Who is this Henry Havel?"  His tone carries a hint of skepticism  "What does this man even have that would make a beautiful woman like Sage put up with him?"
Kieran, being a non-executive director at the same company Henry works in, answers with a knowing smile. "Henry Havel is one of the executive directors for Havel Group, a conglomerate in the industry. I've crossed paths with him a few times during my work there. He is actually from the branch family of the Havels. While his grandfather founded Havel Group, he is not the heir to the conglomerate. But he holds a significant position as an executive director in the company."  Charles raises an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "So, he's not the main heir, but he still has influence within the family business. I wonder what qualities or connections he possesses to capture Sage's attention."
Kieran, who is familiar with Henry's reputation, chuckles and nudges his son playfully. "Well, Henry is a capable guy, but why don't you go find out for yourself? Look up Henry Havel and see what you can dig up. I have a feeling you might be surprised."
Vi, unable to resist her curiosity, leans over to take a peek at the screen. However, instead of a mischievous grin, her expression softens with a hint of sadness. "Yep, he looks like trouble! No wonder Sage fell for him."
As Vi's words hang in the air, Auryn's eyes narrow slightly, and a trace of jealousy tugs at his heart. He clears his throat, trying to mask his emotions. "Well, I'm sure Sage saw something in him that others didn't. People can be drawn to different qualities, after all.
Kieran, adds. "It's not uncommon for people to be attracted to charm and charisma, my dear. Unfortunately, Henry is a looker too. The good news is, she is no longer in that relationship" Auryn nods sadly, agreeing with what his brother said. "Yes, and you just had to be the one to capture her attention. I can't believe you let her slip away." scolding his brother.
Vi notices her uncle's wistful look and pokes him playfully. "Oh, come on, Uncle Auryn! You're an award-winning designer with those gorgeous blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. You've got your own set of qualities that can make hearts flutter."
Charles joins in, teasingly nudging his uncle. "That's right, Uncle. Don't underestimate yourself. You're quite the catch."
Auryn looks at his nieces and nephew, a mix of amusement and mock seriousness on his face. " Are you suggesting that I should become your father's arch-nemesis in matters of the heart?  But sorry, my dear ones, I prefer to maintain my position as the beloved and oh-so-cool uncle.”
Kieran joins in the teasing with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Oh, Auryn, don't worry. I'm not threatened by you becoming my romantic rival. I think I can handle a little friendly competition."
Auryn chuckles, shaking his head. "You're quite confident, aren't you? But remember, if you don't make a move to win her back soon, I’ll really go after her myself”
Vi and Charles exchange mischievous glances, sensing the playful rivalry between their father and uncle. They raise their fists in the air and cheer, "Fight, fight, fight! Da vs Uncle!!"
Auryn raises an eyebrow, feigning offense. He rolls his eyes at their antics but can't help but smile. "Alright, alright, settle down, you two. Let's not turn this into a full-blown competition. I was just teasing your father." "
Kieran joins in the banter, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "Indeed, let the best man win, may the odds be ever in your favor, Auryn."
Auryn raises an eyebrow, his expression a mix of disbelief and amusement. "You too, Kieran? Seriously? I can't believe I'm being challenged by my own brother. This is getting out of hand."
Auryn's initial surprise quickly turns into laughter as he joins his brother Kieran in their shared amusement. They both chuckle, their laughter echoing in the room.
----------
Henry sat in his private office, engrossed in the stack of documents spread out on his desk. The room was filled with an air of focused determination as he meticulously reviewed each page. Suddenly, he sensed a presence and looked up, finding his secretary standing in the doorway.
The secretary, a young woman with a professional demeanor, couldn't help but steal a quick glance at Henry. His striking looks and undeniable charm were hard to ignore. Henry, accustomed to the effect he had on people, simply offered her a polite smile before returning his attention to the documents.  Despite his reputation as a charmer, when it came to work, Henry made sure to maintain a focused and professional environment.
Unfazed by his good looks, the secretary maintained her composure and approached Henry's desk. She held a file in her hands, ready to assist him with any tasks he required. Her admiration for his appearance didn't overshadow her focus on her job.
Henry looked up, meeting her gaze, and nodded appreciatively. "Thank you, Lydia. Please place those documents on my desk. I'll review them shortly."
Lydia, displaying a level of professionalism that matched her poise, smoothly placed the file on Henry's desk. She stood confidently, ready to address any further instructions or inquiries.
As Henry skimmed through the documents, his eyes widened with surprise. Among the papers, he noticed a file bearing the logo of Sage's app. Memories of their past and the recent encounter with Sage and Kieran resurfaced in his mind. “Lydia? can you tell me more about this?”
Lydia, maintaining her professional demeanor, nodded and spoke in a composed tone. "Certainly, Mr. Havel. The app in question has been recently acquired by one of our non-executive directors, Kieran Sorenson. He saw potential in it and decided to make the acquisition for his own company."
A week ago, outside the lounge bar, Henry had caught sight of Sage and Kieran together, their easy camaraderie and connection evident. It had stirred a mix of surprise, jealousy, and regret within him. Now, with the knowledge that Kieran had acquired Sage's app, a sense of rivalry ignited within Henry.
The knowledge that Kieran had acquired Sage's app further intensified Henry's drive to prove himself superior, both in business and in matters of the heart. He couldn't let Kieran's success with the app go unchallenged.
Realizing the importance of the matter, Henry knew he had to bring it to the attention of the board. With a cold smile, Henry looked up at Lydia. "Lydia, inform me immediately when the next board meeting is scheduled. I have an important matter to discuss with the directors."
Lydia, sensing the shift in Henry's demeanor, nodded briskly. "Of course, Mr. Henry. I will ensure you are promptly informed of the board meeting arrangements."
With a calculated glint in his eyes, Henry turned his attention back to the file. He would seize this opportunity to outmaneuver Kieran and bring the app into the hands of Havel Group.  He saw the acquisition of the app as a strategic move to bring Sage back into his life. With careful planning, he intended to smoothly transition the app to Havel Group, using the opportunity to reconnect with Sage on both professional and personal levels. Henry's calculated approach as an executive director would allow him to leverage his charm and unwavering pursuit, ensuring a chance to rewrite their story together.
----------
Kieran, dressed in a sharp dark blue suit, entered the meeting room with a file in hand. As he stepped inside, he found the executives and directors engaged in casual conversation, setting a relaxed atmosphere before the formal meeting.
With a friendly smile, Kieran greeted his colleagues one by one, exchanging pleasantries and brief updates. The room buzzed with anticipation, knowing that an important discussion was about to take place.
"Good morning, everyone," Kieran said, his voice carrying a confident yet warm tone. "I hope you all had a productive morning so far."
The executives reciprocated the greeting, some nodding in acknowledgment, while others engaged in small talk.
As the room quieted down, Simon, the esteemed leader of the Havel Group, stood up and addressed the gathered executives.
"Good morning, everyone," Simon began, his voice carrying authority and respect. "Today, we have an important topic to discuss: the recent acquisition made by our non-executive director, Kieran Sorenson."
All eyes turned to Kieran, who sat confidently, ready to present his case.
Simon continued, "Kieran, we appreciate your entrepreneurial endeavors and your role as a non-executive director. While this acquisition was made for your own company, it is important for us to understand the nature of the app and its potential impact on the market."
Kieran nodded, understanding the purpose of the meeting and the need to provide transparency regarding the app acquisition. He took a moment to collect his thoughts and then began to present a comprehensive overview of the app, highlighting its potential benefits, market opportunities, and how it could contribute to the growth of his own company.
As Kieran spoke, Henry, with a calculated glint in his eyes, listened intently. He saw the potential of the app as not just a standalone venture but as a means to undermine Kieran and regain his connection with Sage, his ex-girlfriend and the app's designer.
With every passing slide, Henry's mind raced, devising a plan to outmaneuver Kieran and bring the app into the hands of Havel Group. He saw the acquisition of the app as a strategic move to assert dominance and challenge Kieran.
Henry, leaned back in his chair, a subtle smile playing on his lips. As Kieran confidently presented the app's features and market potential, Henry's mind raced with thoughts of how he could undermine his rival.
"Thank you, Kieran, for the overview. It's evident that your acquisition holds promise," Henry began, his tone calculated and deliberate. "However, I couldn't help but notice the striking resemblance between your app's features and our own successful online retail division."
An undercurrent of concern rippled through the room as Henry continued, pointing out the potential conflicts of interest that such an acquisition might bring. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding their existing operations and partnerships.
Kieran maintained his composure, though a flicker of worry crossed his eyes. He understood that Henry had a valid point.
Undeterred, Henry pressed on, his voice carrying an air of authority. "Before making any decisions, I propose that we thoroughly evaluate the strategic alignment and potential synergies. We must prioritize the growth and stability of the Havel Group above all else."
The board members exchanged wary glances, recognizing the weight of Henry's words. His calculated attack had successfully cast a shadow of doubt over Kieran's acquisition.
With a self-satisfied expression, Henry leaned forward, locking eyes with Kieran. "I trust that you understand the implications of your decision, Kieran. It is imperative that we proceed with caution and prioritize the best interests of the Havel Group."
Kieran, determined to address Henry's concerns, responded with measured words. "Henry, I understand your perspective, but let me clarify that the app is not a direct competition to our online retail division. It functions as a community platform, enabling individuals to sell their used items, offer services, and connect with potential buyers. It fosters a sense of community and facilitates peer-to-peer transactions."
Henry's confidence remained unwavering. "Kieran, I acknowledge your perspective, but let's not underestimate the impact this app can have on our online retail division. While it may not be a direct competitor, it still poses a threat. People turning to this app for buying and selling their used items means they won't be turning to our online platform."
Kieran held his ground, recognizing the need to defend his position. "Henry, we have an opportunity here to tap into a different market segment. This app is about community engagement and convenience. It can bring new customers and work alongside our existing operations."
Henry leaned back in his chair, skepticism etched on his face. "I appreciate your optimism, Kieran, but let's not overlook the potential risks. We must consider the possibility of resource diversion, customer overlap, and the need to allocate our efforts wisely."
Taking a deep breath, Kieran sought common ground. "Henry, I propose that we conduct a thorough analysis of the app's potential impact and explore ways to collaborate rather than compete. We can establish guidelines to ensure a mutually beneficial relationship between the app and our online retail division."
Henry listened intently, his mind already devising a cunning plan. Leaning forward, he sported a calculated smile on his lips.
"Kieran, I understand the potential value of this app, and I appreciate your entrepreneurial spirit," Henry began, his tone measured. "Instead of viewing this as a competition, why don't we explore a partnership? Havel Group has the resources, market reach, and expertise to help scale this app to new heights."
Kieran raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Henry's proposition. "A partnership? How would that work?"
Henry glanced at Simon, his elder brother and the leader of the Havel Group, who had been quietly observing the discussion. Sensing the strategic potential in Henry's suggestion, Simon spoke up.
"Kieran, Henry's proposal is worth considering," Simon interjected, his voice carrying a weight of authority. "The collaboration between our companies could lead to a synergy where the app can thrive while aligning with our broader business objectives."
Kieran turned his attention to Simon, his curiosity piqued. "Simon, I appreciate your perspective. But how can we ensure that the app's unique community-focused approach remains intact within the partnership?"
Simon nodded, understanding Kieran's concerns. "Kieran, we value the app's core values and its connection with its user base. We can establish a joint committee consisting of representatives from both our companies to oversee the partnership. This committee will work together to define and safeguard the app's unique identity while leveraging the resources and expertise that Havel Group brings to the table."
Kieran contemplated the proposal, weighing the potential benefits against his initial reservations. "If we can find common ground and maintain the app's integrity, then a partnership could be a viable path forward."
Simon extended his hand towards Kieran, signifying their agreement. "Let's explore this further, Kieran. I believe there is immense potential in joining forces and charting a new course together."
As Kieran shook Simon's hand, Henry observed with a mixture of satisfaction and anticipation. The board's support for his proposition indicated that his calculated approach was paying off. The path to a strategic partnership was now open, and Henry's plan to bring the app into the hands of Havel Group and reconnect with Sage seemed within reach.

FIVE
Sage paced back and forth in her living room, her mind consumed with regret. The events of the evening replayed in her thoughts, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that she had made a mistake. She had let fear and uncertainty guide her actions, and now she found herself questioning her choices.
As her mind raced, a flashback took her back to the night she had spent with Kieran. They had shared a delightful evening together, filled with laughter, genuine conversation, and a connection that seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment. But when the night drew to a close, Kieran had made it clear that he wanted to date her, not rush into a physical relationship.
Sage, being the self-doubting person she was, had let her insecurities take hold. She didn't want Kieran to see her vulnerabilities, to witness her true self. And so, with a mix of cowardice and misguided intentions, she had asked Kieran's driver to drop her off in front of a townhouse a few blocks away from her actual home.
In her heart, she knew it was a foolish decision. Why had she pretended that her home was closer than it actually was? Perhaps it was her fear of being seen for who she truly was, her fear of letting someone into her life and revealing her flaws. She hadn't even given Kieran her business card or phone number, only her name.
Now, in the solitude of her home, regret gnawed at her. She realized that she might have missed an opportunity to let someone in, to explore a potential connection with a remarkable man like Kieran. The weight of her decision settled heavily upon her shoulders, and she couldn't help but wonder what could have been if she had been braver, more open to the possibilities.
But then Sage's thoughts took a sharp turn, and she couldn't help but entertain a different perspective. She reminded herself of the similarities between Kieran and some of her previous partners. They had all started off nice and charming, just like Kieran. They had charmed her, made her feel special, and convinced her to let her guard down. But as soon as they had her wrapped around their finger, things had changed.
They had taken advantage of her, using her issues against her and blaming her for their own shortcomings. Sage had endured enough heartache and pain, and she couldn't bear the thought of going through it all over again.
"No," she said defiantly, shaking her head. "I've had my fair share of manipulative men. I won't let Kieran be another one. I refuse to let myself be hurt again."
With newfound conviction, Sage made a promise to herself. She would no longer allow herself to be fooled by superficial charm or fall into the same patterns of toxic relationships. She was stronger now, more aware of her own worth, and she wouldn't settle for anything less than genuine love and respect.
As she walked through her living room, a sense of empowerment washed over her. She realized that she didn't need a man to complete her. She had her own strength, her own dreams, and her own happiness to pursue.  However, now she faced a new predicament: how to avoid Kieran?
----------
On Thursday night, Sage walked into her favorite lounge bar, relieved to see that Kieran wasn't there. She had made a mental note of the days when he usually frequented the place, trying her best to avoid any chance encounters. With a friendly smile, she greeted the bartender and ordered her usual drink along with some delectable canapés. It was a small victory, knowing she could enjoy her evening without the presence of the intriguing but potentially complicated Kieran.
Tonight, Sage had no intention of indulging in flirtatious encounters with handsome strangers. She had opted for a more understated yet elegant look, wearing a black maxi dress adorned with subtle gold jewelry. Her attire was tasteful and presentable, but it lacked the sultriness of the outfit she had worn on the day she made her bold move on Kieran. She was determined to enjoy a quiet and uneventful evening, savoring her drink and canapés in peace.
Tonight, she had no plans of flirting with handsome strangers, so she was dressed in a black maxi dress and gold jewelry. It was tasteful and presentable, exuding an air of sophistication rather than sultriness, unlike the outfit she had worn on the day she made her move on Kieran.
Sage made her way to the lounge bar and greeted the bartender, Finn. He flashed her a friendly smile as he prepared her usual drink and canapés.
"So, Sage, how did your date with Kieran go?" Finn asked curiously, his eyes twinkling with intrigue.
Sage sighed, a hint of regret in her voice. "Oh, Finn, I was a coward. I ran away."
Finn raised an eyebrow, genuinely interested. "Why on earth would you do that?"
Sage took a moment to collect her thoughts. "I don't know, Finn. It's complicated. I let my fears and insecurities get the best of me. I didn't want to let someone in, only to get hurt again."
Finn nodded empathetically, understanding the struggle all too well. "Sometimes, self-preservation kicks in, and it's hard to let down those walls. But who knows, Sage? Maybe you'll have another chance with him."
Sage chuckled softly, a tinge of skepticism in her voice. "I highly doubt it. I think I may have missed my chance. Besides, I'm not sure I'm ready to navigate those waters again."
Finn leaned against the bar, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Well, you never know what life has in store for you. Maybe fate will intervene and give you a second shot."
Sage smiled appreciatively at Finn's words. "Maybe, Finn. Maybe."
Just as Finn finished speaking, his smile grew wide, and he pointed discreetly behind Sage. "Like probably right now?!"
Sage turned around, her eyes widening in surprise. There, behind her, was Kieran, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. He sits down next to her, not breaking eye contact.
Kieran's eyes sparkled with amusement as he took a seat next to Sage. "Well, well, well, if it isn't the elusive Sage Lennox who disappeared into thin air after our incredible evening together. I must say, I didn't expect you to be a master of vanishing acts."
Sage's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she tried to muster a retort. "I... I wasn't. I just... had something urgent to attend to."
Kieran raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced. "Urgent, huh? Is that what they call running away these days?"
Sage shifted uncomfortably in her seat, a sheepish smile forming on her lips. "I wouldn't call it running away, Kieran. More like a strategic retreat."
Kieran raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise. "Ah, a strategic retreat, you say? Care to enlighten me on the grand strategy behind that?"
Sage's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she fidgeted with her drink. "I'm really sorry, Kieran. I didn't mean to run off like that. It was... um, cowardly of me."
Kieran's teasing smile softened into a gentle expression. "No need to apologize. We all have our moments of uncertainty. I hope I didn't give you the wrong impression."
Sage shook her head, her eyes filled with sincerity. "No, not at all. It's not about you. It's about me and my own fears. I didn't want to let anyone in too quickly."
“We all have our moments of uncertainty. But sometimes, taking a leap of faith can lead to something beautiful. I'd like to get to know the real you, if you're willing to give it a chance." He offers
Sage mustered up the courage to meet Kieran's gaze, her curiosity piqued. "And how exactly would you suggest we get to know each other better?"
"Well, Sage, I was thinking of inviting you to my residence. I have quite an impressive collection of books, art, sculptures, and other intriguing things I've gathered from my travels."
Sage couldn't resist the opportunity for a playful tease. She leaned in, a sly smile forming on her lips. "Oh, so you're finally trying to seduce me, huh? Inviting me over for a private tour, just the two of us?"
Kieran chuckled, catching on to her playful banter. "Oh, Sage, you have quite the imagination. I assure you, my invitation is simply for a chance to get to know you better and share some interesting experiences. No hidden agendas, I promise."
Sage's cheeks flushed slightly as she realized her assumption had taken a humorous turn. "Well, in that case, perhaps we can save the private tour for another day. You see, I happen to be in my period at the moment," she said, her voice laced with playful skepticism, "unless you happen to have a secret taste for the bloody, like Hannibal Lecter."
Kieran burst into laughter, finding her innuendo amusing. "Oh, Sage, you always know how to keep things interesting. But I assure you again, it's just a regular tour. No hidden agendas or secret tastes for the bloody."
Sage raised an eyebrow, not fully convinced. "Are you sure? Because I've seen enough movies to know that sometimes a 'regular tour' is just code for something else."
Kieran chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I understand your concern, but I genuinely meant it as a chance for us to spend time together and get to know each other better. No ulterior motives, I promise."
Sage's playful skepticism started to fade, replaced by a growing curiosity. "Well, if you insist.”
Kieran's smile widened, a mischievous glint in his eyes. " And you know what, Sage? I happen to have an abundance of gelato at my place. My daughter left for a business trip and I'm left with all these tubs. So, if you decide to join me on the tour, I'll make sure to treat you to some indulgent gelato. It's the perfect remedy for any period-induced cravings."
Sage's eyes lit up, a playful smirk on her face. "Well, Kieran, how can a girl say no to gelato? Lead the way, and let's see if your claim lives up to the hype."
Sage smiled back at Finn, the bartender, appreciating his encouragement and support. With newfound confidence and a touch of excitement, she linked her arm with Kieran's, accepting his gallant gesture.
----------
As Kieran and Sage stepped outside the lounge bar, a cool evening breeze brushed against their faces. The sight of Sage and Kieran greeting his chauffeur, standing by the open door of a sleek black Rolls Royce, immediately caught the attention of Henry, Alex, and James, who happened to be walking along the street, and was out to after a long day at work, to unwind and grab a drink at their favorite pub.
Henry's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected encounter. He hadn't expected to see her, especially not in the company of someone like Kieran.
Alex's eyes widened in recognition, and he exchanged a knowing glance with James. They both remembered seeing Sage and Kieran together at a posh restaurant just a week ago. The memory sparked a mischievous grin on their faces, as if they were privy to some hidden secret.
Henry's gaze fixated on Sage, a mixture of surprise and jealousy flickering in his eyes. He couldn't deny the pang of envy that washed over him as he observed the ease with which Kieran interacted with her. It was as if they were old friends, or perhaps even more.
Alex nudged Henry, a mischievous grin on his face. "Looks like our dear Sage has found herself quite the intriguing companion."
James placed a hand on Henry's shoulder, attempting to offer some comfort. "Mate, I know it stings, but try not to let it get to you. Sage has the right to move on, just like we do."
Henry shrugged off Alex's hand, his voice laced with bitterness. "Move on? Seems like she's found herself an upgrade, hasn't she?"
Alex let out a sigh, his tone tinged with disappointment. "Come on, Henry, don't be like that. You know Sage deserves happiness, just like anyone else. Let's not ruin our evening with jealousy. We're here to have a good time."
Henry let out a heavy sigh, a sense of regret weighing heavily on his heart. "I messed up, didn't I?”
Alex and James exchanged a knowing glance, their silence speaking volumes.
----------
As Kieran and Sage arrived at his home, Sage couldn't help but be in awe of the magnificent Georgian house that stood before her. The exterior exuded a timeless elegance, with its walls adorned in lush ivy vines, giving the impression of a residence steeped in history and charm. The ivy leaves danced gently in the breeze, creating a natural tapestry of green against the stone facade.
Tumblr media
The windows of the house boasted flower boxes overflowing with vibrant blooms, adding a touch of color and cheerfulness to the already picturesque scene. Each window seemed to tell a story, as if the house itself had a secret to share.
A round driveway adorned the front, acting as a regal centerpiece to the property. The gravel crunching beneath their feet as they made their way towards the entrance, adding a sense of grandeur to their arrival.
The hedges lining the perimeter of the property were impeccably maintained, trimmed to perfection, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail that went into every aspect of Kieran's home. They formed a natural barrier, providing privacy and a sense of sanctuary from the outside world.
As Sage's gaze wandered, she couldn't help but notice a Mercedes-Maybach parked on one side of the driveway, a symbol of luxury and refinement. And on the other side, a sleek Jaguar rested, hinting at the varied tastes and choices that Kieran had at his disposal.
The exterior of the house exuded warmth and a welcoming ambiance, with its elegant yet approachable aesthetics. It was a place that felt like home, a sanctuary away from the bustling world outside.
As Kieran opened the doors to his home, Sage was greeted by the sight of classical marbled floors that stretched out before her. The pristine white-paneled walls provided a clean canvas for the beautiful works of art that adorned them, each carefully framed and thoughtfully hung. The air was filled with a delicate fragrance from the fresh flowers that adorned various corners of the house, adding a touch of natural beauty to the already elegant space.
They entered the living room, and Sage couldn't help but notice the juxtaposition of styles that somehow harmonized perfectly. The couch, with its vibrant colors and intricate patterns, stood out boldly against the backdrop of the white-paneled walls. It was a nod to maximalism, an artful blending of different elements that created a vibrant and inviting space.
The room was adorned with shelves filled with books of various genres, a testament to Kieran's intellectual curiosity and love for knowledge. It was evident that literature and the pursuit of wisdom were valued in this household.
Tumblr media
As she glanced at a stylish console table, her attention was captivated by a silver framed photograph of a stunning woman, exuding grace and elegance. It was clear that she was Kieran's late wife, a gentle reminder of the love that had once filled these walls. Next to it were pictures of his children, their smiling faces captured in moments of celebration and achievement. Graduation photos told stories of milestones reached and dreams realized.
However, what truly caught Sage's attention was the sight of a sword, encased in a glass display. Its presence spoke of a different chapter in Kieran's life. Her curiosity got the best of her, and she couldn't help but voice her inquiry.
"You were an officer?" Sage asked, her voice filled with intrigue and respect, recognizing the significance of the symbol before her.
Kieran's eyebrows lifted in surprise as Sage's knowledge of the sword's significance became apparent. "So you know what it means?"
Sage hesitated for a moment, her curiosity getting the better of her. "Yeah..." she replied, her voice trailing off slightly.
As her gaze shifted, Sage's eyes caught sight of another item displayed on the shelf—a distinguished medal adorned with the initials GCMG, denoting the highest honors. Realization struck her like a bolt of lightning. Kieran was not just an officer; he was an actual knight.
Her eyes widened in disbelief, and she turned to face him, her expression a mix of astonishment and amusement. "Do I address you as Sir?" she blurted out, unable to contain her incredulity.
Kieran chuckled, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes. "Well, you could if you really wanted to, but I must admit, it's not a title I insist upon in everyday conversation. Kieran will do just fine."
Sage let out a nervous laugh, feeling a touch out of her element. "Alright, Kieran it is. Just know that I'm in the presence of a distinguished knight here. Quite the surprise, I must say."
Sage crossed her arms, her curiosity getting the best of her. "So, Sir Kieran, what mighty service did you perform to earn such an esteemed title?"
Kieran feigned a modest expression, his eyes sparkling mischievously. "Ah, you see, it was quite the daring quest. I battled fierce dragons, rescued damsels in distress, and single-handedly brought peace to the land..."
Sage raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. "Oh, really? And here I was thinking it had something to do with your charming wit and debonair personality."
However, she couldn't resist the temptation to keep guessing, determined to unravel the mystery behind Kieran's esteemed accolades. "Alright, Sir Kieran, let me take another shot at it. Were you perhaps a diplomat? Traversing the globe, negotiating peace treaties and solving international conflicts?"
Kieran chuckled, shaking his head. "Close, but no, my dear. Though I must admit, the thought of me in diplomatic negotiations is quite amusing."
Undeterred, Sage continued her playful guessing. "Alright, how about this? Were you a secret agent, like James Bond or Johnny English, carrying out daring missions while maintaining your impeccable sense of style and humor?"
Kieran chuckled again, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "Maybe, maybe not... hmmm... neither”
Sage's eyes widened with excitement as another idea sparked in her mind. "Wait a minute... are you perhaps the 'M' of the spy world? The one who pulls the strings and sends agents on top-secret missions?"
Kieran burst into laughter, thoroughly amused by Sage's accurate guess. "Oh, I see where you're going with this. But enough about my past for now. Let's focus on the present. How about I get you a hot pack for your comfort and maybe some gelato or ice cream? I've got a feeling it'll make you feel better." but he swiftly changed the topic, avoiding direct confirmation.
As Sage's eyes widened in realization, she couldn't contain her excitement. She followed Kieran into the kitchen, her curiosity growing stronger by the second. She leaned against the kitchen counter, eager to uncover more about his mysterious past.
"Wait, MI5 or MI6?" she blurted out, unable to contain her enthusiasm. "Tell me, tell me, tell me!"
Kieran turned to face her, a playful glint in his eyes. He paused for a moment, savoring the anticipation he had built up. Then, with a smile, he finally revealed, "Worked with both...”
Sage's eyes sparkled with a mixture of excitement and disbelief. "So you really are M?" she asked, unable to hide her astonishment.
Kieran let out a chuckle, his eyes twinkling mischievously. Ignoring her question, he turned his attention to the freezer, where an array of colorful gelato flavors awaited. He ran his fingers along the frosty glass, considering the options before him.
"Alright, Sage," he said, a playful tone in his voice. "Tell me, which gelato flavor tickles your fancy? We have pistachio, salted caramel, dark chocolate, and a special raspberry sorbet made with fresh fruits from the garden. Hmm... we also have matcha, mango, melon, vanilla, vanilla raspberry, mocha..."
Sage couldn't help but laugh at his diversion tactic, realizing he was purposefully avoiding giving a direct answer. "You're quite the master of evading questions, aren't you? But let's see... I think I'll go with the dark chocolate. Can't resist a good, rich chocolate indulgence."
Kieran nodded approvingly, his gaze lingering on Sage as if he found her choice particularly fitting. "Excellent choice," he remarked, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "Dark chocolate it is, then."
As Kieran expertly scooped two generous portions of the velvety gelato, Sage couldn't help but be captivated by his effortless grace and the air of mystery that surrounded him. Even as he handed her the ice-cold dessert, he kept his secrets close, teasing her with glimpses of his intriguing past.
As they finished their gelato, Kieran gestured toward a set of double doors leading to his study. "Shall we continue our conversation in a more comfortable setting?" he suggested, a twinkle of anticipation in his eyes.
Sage nodded eagerly, intrigued by the prospect of exploring more of Kieran's world. They entered the study, and she couldn't help but be captivated by the room's ambiance. The same elegant style that permeated the living room carried through into the study, with white-paneled walls adorned with tasteful artwork and shelves filled with carefully curated books.
Tumblr media
A plush couch adorned with an array of soft throw pillows invited them to sink into its embrace. Sage couldn't resist running her fingers along the luxurious fabric, appreciating the attention to detail that Kieran had put into every aspect of his home.
The study felt like a sanctuary, a place where ideas could be explored and dreams could take flight. It was a testament to Kieran's refined taste and his appreciation for beauty and knowledge.
They settled onto the couch, sinking into its comfort. Sage couldn't help but feel a sense of ease and intimacy in this space, as if the walls held the whispers of stories waiting to be told.
As Sage stepped further into the study, her eyes were drawn to another console table adorned with a new set of photographs. These pictures exuded an intimate and personal touch, showcasing cherished memories and tender moments.
Amongst the collection, she spotted more pictures of Kieran's children, their smiles capturing the essence of their shared laughter and affection. The images showcased the bond between siblings, the joy of family outings, and the milestones they had celebrated together. It was evident that family played a central role in Kieran's life.
But it was the small, framed portrait of his late wife that held Sage's gaze. The portrait, bathed in warm light, depicted a moment frozen in time—a loving smile, a gentle touch. It was a reminder of the deep connection they had shared, and the love that had shaped Kieran into the person he was today.
As Sage took in the sight, she felt a mix of reverence and admiration. These intimate photographs painted a more profound picture of Kieran's life and the profound impact his family had on him. They spoke of treasured moments, heartfelt memories, and the resilience of love in the face of loss.
Respecting the intimacy of these images, Sage allowed herself a moment of quiet reflection. She understood the weight of Kieran's past and the significance these photographs held in his heart. It served as a reminder of the complexities of human experiences and the stories that shaped them.
Sage took a moment to absorb the atmosphere of the study, enveloped in a sense of tranquility and comfort. She couldn't help but feel a certain reverence for the space that seemed to hold Kieran's most cherished memories.
"This place feels like a sanctuary," she remarked softly, her voice filled with appreciation. "I can understand why you wouldn't want to leave this room. It holds so much history and warmth."
Kieran smiled, his gaze sweeping across the room. "You're absolutely right," he replied, his voice tinged with nostalgia. "My children often say the same thing  whenever my they are around, they practically camp out in this study. It's become their favorite hangout spot," he said, his voice laced with affectionate humor.
"They claim it's because of the comfortable couch and the abundance of throw pillows," he continued, gesturing towards the inviting seating area. "But I suspect it's also because they know I keep a secret stash of their favorite snacks hidden in that drawer over there."
Sage laughed, delighted by the image of Kieran's children making themselves at home in his study. "So, it's not just the allure of your fascinating books and intriguing artifacts, but also the promise of tasty treats that draws them in?"
Kieran nodded, a mischievous grin on his face. "Exactly. I've come to realize that snacks hold a remarkable power of attraction, even in the midst of ancient manuscripts and treasured heirlooms."
They shared a lighthearted moment, their laughter filling the air and infusing the study with an even greater sense of warmth and familiarity. It was in these moments of playful banter that Sage discovered another layer of Kieran's charm, one that made her feel even more at ease in his presence.
For a moment, Sage's curiosity got the better of her, and she couldn't resist delving into Kieran's past. Her eyes wandered back to the console table where the picture of his late wife sat, a reminder of a love that had once been.
"You mentioned having an ex-girlfriend," she began, her voice filled with genuine curiosity. "Forgive me for prying, but... why 'ex'? I mean, look at you, Kieran. You're intelligent, intriguing, and, well, quite easy on the eyes."
Sage's curious remark about Kieran's ex-girlfriend caught his attention. He leaned back on the couch, wearing a mischievous smile, and prepared to share a story that held a hint of drama.
"Well, Sage," he began with a theatrical sigh, "let's just say that my ex-girlfriend had quite the unique way of expressing her affection. She decided to demonstrate her love by... shooting me."
Sage's eyes widened in disbelief as she tried to process his words. Her initial shock quickly turned into a mix of concern and amusement. Kieran couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction, fully aware of the absurdity of his statement.
"Now, now, don't worry," he reassured her, his voice filled with lightheartedness. "I managed to survive the encounter, although my heart might have skipped a beat or two at the time. It turns out she had a bit of a 'trigger-happy' approach to relationships."
He winked playfully at Sage, his eyes twinkling with mischief. The combination of humor and truth in his words created a unique dynamic that both surprised and intrigued her.
"But fear not," he continued, a hint of a smirk on his lips. "I'm well on my way to a full recovery—both physically and emotionally. And I've come to realize that not every woman is armed with a dangerous love like she was."
Sage couldn't help but burst into laughter at Kieran's outlandish explanation. "Shot you? Seriously, Kieran? Are you trying to pull my leg? That's one way to describe a crazy ex-girlfriend!"
Sage's disbelief transformed into a mix of shock and intrigue. She leaned in closer, her eyes fixed on Kieran. "Okay, I'll bite. How on earth did that happen?"
Kieran paused for a moment, as if reliving the memory. He then continued, his voice filled with a dramatic flair. "Well, one fateful evening, during an argument, she dramatically pulled out a water gun and declared, 'I'm about to make your heart wet with love!' Little did I know that she had secretly filled the water gun with ice-cold water."
Sage burst into laughter, unable to contain her amusement at Kieran's absurd and comical rendition of the story. "You're kidding, right? She shot you with a water gun?"
Kieran joined in her laughter, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. "Well, Sage, let's just say it was a shocking breakup in more ways than one. I guess you could say our relationship was a bit... unconventional."
Sage shook her head, still chuckling. "Unconventional is one way to put it. I must admit, Kieran, you certainly know how to keep things interesting. You have a knack for attracting the wildest stories."
Kieran chuckled, a twinkle in his eyes. "Perhaps, but let's just say it was an experience that made me appreciate the simpler, less weapon-oriented side of relationships."
As their laughter subsided, the tension lifted, and Sage realized that Kieran's lighthearted response was his way of dealing with a past that held both pain and amusement. Deep down, he knew that the truth behind his ex-girlfriend's betrayal and the gunshot was far from funny, but he also understood that revealing the seriousness of the situation might dampen the lighthearted atmosphere between them. So, he decided to keep the details hidden, allowing Sage to believe it was all part of a humorous tale.
In his mind, Kieran replayed the events that had unfolded with Q, his ex-girlfriend. The sense of betrayal and the dangerous confrontation still lingered, reminding him of the risks he had faced. It was a chapter of his life he had put behind him, but the scars, both physical and emotional, remained.
Kieran leaned forward, his eyes reflecting genuine curiosity. "So, Sage, how did you come to possess such knowledge about the world of espionage? Is it just a keen interest, or is there something more to it?"
Kieran's curiosity piqued as Sage hesitantly admitted, "Well, Kieran, my father... he was actually a part of the MI5."
Kieran's eyebrows shot up in surprise, his gaze fixed on Sage. "Really? Your father was in the MI5? That's quite impressive."
Sage paused for a moment, contemplating whether to share another detail. Finally, she continued, "And, well, one of my ex-boyfriends... he was from the SAS."
Kieran's eyes widened in surprise. "The SAS? That's quite something. You certainly have an interesting history with connections to the military and intelligence."
Sage chuckled, a mix of nostalgia and amusement in her voice. "Yes, interesting is one way to put it. Let's just say that relationship was quite intense. Almost had me jumping out of planes and scaling mountains, if you can believe it."
As Sage thought about the snippets of her past, she couldn't help but remember a particular ex-boyfriend who had been part of the SAS. The memories flooded back, tinged with a mixture of fondness and frustration. In her mind, she recalled how the relationship had been intense, almost resulting in an unexpected pregnancy, and ultimately ending abruptly when he grew weary of the commitment. It was reminiscent of her experience with Henry, another relationship that had left her feeling uncertain and hurt.
Kieran's keen perception picked up on the subtle hint in Sage's comment about her intense relationship with the ex-boyfriend from the SAS. He could sense that there was more to the story, that the relationship had been filled with tumult and emotional ups and downs.
A knowing smile played on Kieran's lips as he looked at Sage. "Ah, jumping out of planes and scaling mountains, huh? Sounds like quite the rollercoaster ride. I can only imagine the adventures and challenges you both must have faced."
As the study doors swung open, a man bearing a striking resemblance to Kieran entered, calling out to him. "Da! Da!" he exclaimed, clutching a box of ice cream in his hands. His voice carried a youthful energy that filled the room.
Kieran turned towards the entrance, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Ah, Charles, perfect timing!" he greeted his youngest son. "And yes, Sage, this is my youngest, Charles. Charles, meet Sage."
Charles beamed with excitement, his eyes lighting up as he looked at Sage. He quickly set the box of ice cream on a nearby table, his attention fully captured by the woman before him. "Woah! Hi, Sage! It's so great to meet you!"
Sage returned his greeting with a kind smile. "Hello, Charles. It's wonderful to meet you too."
Charles couldn't contain his happiness as he turned to his father. "Da, you never told me you were dating someone! This is amazing!"
Kieran chuckled, his eyes sparkling with affection for his son. "Well, Charles, it's still early days. Sage and I are just getting to know each other. But I'm glad you're happy about it."
Charles nodded eagerly, his enthusiasm bubbling over. "Oh, I'm more than happy! It's about time you found someone special, Da. And besides, I came to grab Vi's tub of ice cream before they expire. She won't be too pleased if they go to waste!"
Charles shifted slightly, a shy grin on his face. "Well, I'll leave you two to your... um, conversation. I actually have some work I need to finish, so I should head back home."
Kieran nodded, understanding his son's desire to give them some privacy. "Of course, Charles. We'll catch up later."
With a quick wave, Charles turned to leave the study, but before he disappeared through the doors, he turned back with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "Oh, and Dad, I'll make sure to tell Vi the good news! She'll be thrilled."
Kieran chuckled, appreciating his son's support. "Thank you, Charles. I appreciate it."
Charles grinned mischievously and winked at Sage before turning to leave the study. "Have fun, you two! And Dad, remember, don't keep Sage waiting too long."
And with that, Charles bid them farewell and stepped out of the study, leaving Kieran and Sage in a moment of quiet connection.
As Charles left the study, Sage couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and surprise at the interaction between Kieran and his son. She admired how Charles seemed genuinely happy for his father, even teasing him about sharing the news with Vi. It was clear that Kieran's children were supportive of their father's happiness.
Sage's admiration grew as she observed the loving and supportive relationship between Kieran and his children. The fact that he managed to balance his military career with being a dedicated single father surprised her, and she couldn't help but express her awe. "Kieran, it's truly remarkable how you handle your responsibilities as a single father alongside your previous demanding military work. Your children are so supportive of you, and it's inspiring to see the bond you share with them," she commented, her voice filled with genuine admiration.
Kieran acknowledged her comment with a nod. "Yes, we've had our fair share of ups and downs. Being a single parent while serving in the military has its challenges. But I've always done my best to be there for them, even during the toughest times. I'm grateful that my children have grown into amazing individuals who understand the sacrifices we've made as a family."
Kieran turned his attention to Sage, a curious glimmer in his eyes. "How about you, Sage? You know, it's fascinating how much you've gathered about me already. You've pieced together bits of my past, my work, and even the dramatic encounter with my ex-girlfriend. It's only fair that I get to know more about you in return."
Sage chuckled, a playful gleam in her eyes. "Fair enough, Kieran. But be warned, my life may not be as thrilling as yours. No exes shooting me, I'm afraid." She leaned back against the couch, contemplating for a moment. "Well, Kieran, where do I begin?
“What about your familial life? How was it growing up?"
Sage couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, a hint of mischief in her eyes. "Ah, my familial life," she replied, her tone lighthearted yet honest. "Well, let's just say it was a rollercoaster ride of chaos and craziness. Terrible might be an understatement, but it was definitely... interesting."
Kieran raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her response. "Interesting, you say? Care to elaborate?"
Sage took a deep breath, her gaze fixed on the window as she mustered the courage to share her past. "Well, Kieran, my childhood was... let's just say it had its fair share of challenges. My parents had a unique way of expressing their love... through an unconventional language of insults and backhanded compliments. I became their favorite sparring partner, the recipient of their creative repertoire of verbal jabs."
A wry smile tugged at the corners of her lips, as if she was finding humor in the absurdity of it all. She chuckled softly, masking the deeper pain that lay beneath the surface. "I guess you could say I developed a thick skin and a quick wit as my defense mechanisms. I became fluent in the art of comebacks, a black belt in the martial art of sarcasm."
As she glanced up at Kieran, a flicker of vulnerability passed through her eyes, hinting at the emotional toll those words had taken on her.  Kieran nodded, his expression filled with understanding. He could sense the layers of complexity that lay beneath Sage's lighthearted words, and he appreciated her ability to find humor in hard situations. It was yet another aspect of her that made him feel drawn to her.
After a brief moment of reflection, Kieran decided to lighten the mood. A mischievous grin spread across his face as he leaned forward, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Well, Sage, it seems you've mastered the art of wit and comebacks. But tell me, what do you do now? How do you make a living in this crazy world?"
Sage's eyes lit up with excitement as she leaned in, ready to share her professional endeavors. "Ah, Kieran, prepare to be amazed! I am a designer, but not just any designer. I specialize in creating... wait for it... the most bizarre and outrageous inventions you can imagine!"
Kieran's eyebrows shot up in intrigue, a playful smile playing on his lips. "Bizarre and outrageous inventions? You have my full attention. Tell me more."
Sage chuckled, delighted by his enthusiasm. "Well, you see, I design things like self-peeling bananas, solar-powered umbrellas that also make you coffee, and even a talking toaster that gives motivational speeches every morning. It's all about combining the practical with the absurd, creating inventions that bring a smile to people's faces."
Kieran burst into laughter, picturing the comical scenarios and imagining a world filled with Sage's whimsical creations. "That is absolutely brilliant, Sage! I can only imagine the joy and laughter your inventions must bring to people's lives."
Sage beamed, grateful for Kieran's appreciation. "Thank you, Kieran. It's a joy to be able to blend my creativity with humor and make a living off patents, apps, and the occasional talking toaster. It's safe to say that my inventions have become a rather... unique source of passive income."
Sage couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of her outlandish inventions, but then she shifted to a more serious tone, wanting to share the true source of her success. "But in all seriousness, Kieran, my real breakthrough came when I developed a selling platform app. It caught the attention of a venture capitalist who saw its potential and decided to acquire it."
Kieran leaned in, his interest piqued. As an angel investor, he had a keen eye for promising ventures. "Really? That's impressive, Sage. It seems like you struck gold with that app. What happened next?"
A gleam of satisfaction appeared in Sage's eyes as she continued, "Well, let's just say that selling the app opened up a world of opportunities for me. Suddenly, I found myself living in a realm of luxury I never could have imagined before. But I didn't stop there. I still have my design patents, which turned out to be quite the cash cows, and a few more app ideas that have caught the attention of potential buyers."
Kieran's curiosity grew even more, his mind buzzing with possibilities. "You have more apps up your sleeve? That's fascinating, Sage. I'd love to hear more about them. Who knows, maybe we can explore some investment opportunities together."
Sage's face lit up with excitement, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "Oh, Kieran, you're in for a wild ride! I've got app ideas that will make people's jaws drop faster than a rollercoaster ride. We're talking about apps that can predict the future hairstyle trends, an app that delivers pizza directly into your dreams, and even an app that helps you find your lost socks!”
Kieran couldn't help but chuckle at Sage's infectious enthusiasm. "Lost socks, huh? Now that's a problem worth solving!”
Sage nodded, a playful grin spreading across her face. "Absolutely! I mean, who hasn't wondered where all those missing socks disappear to? With my app, you'll never have to face a mismatched sock day again!"
They both burst into laughter, their shared sense of humor creating a lighthearted bond between them.
A/N: Hello everyone! I sincerely hope you've been enjoying the story thus far. As we delve deeper into the narrative, I wanted to address a couple of things.
Firstly, there were some significant events involving Q and Kieran from ‘DARK NIGHT’ that were mentioned earlier in the story. Initially, I had planned to create an action-packed short to fully illustrate what happened. However, I found myself struggling to proceed with that approach. Instead, I decided to provide the necessary details and insights into their experiences through this chapter. Rest assured, even though they come from a different story, they belong to the same created universe.
Secondly, I want to acknowledge that there may be grammatical errors, redundancy, or repetitiveness within the text. I apologize for any such mistakes. I will be conducting a soft editing pass to rectify these issues and ensure a smoother reading experience.
Thank you all for your support and patience. Your feedback and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated. I hope you continue to enjoy the journey as the story unfolds.

However, at this point in time, Kieran has retired from his government agency life and is now a fascinating Angel-investor.  Face Claim Cast -  Kieran Sorensen - Mads Mikkelsen
Defying Desire
FOUR
That night, Sage ventured out of her home, ready to banish Henry from her thoughts and find solace in her beloved lounge. This wasn't her first time going alone; the bar had become a sanctuary where she felt safe and understood.
As she entered the lounge, a sense of relief washed over Sage. The familiar surroundings embraced her, shielding her from the outside world. The staff, who had known her so well, greeted her with warm smiles, aware of her desire for solitude.
This is one of the particular lounge held a special place in Sage's heart. It was not only conveniently located, but it also provided a comforting atmosphere. The skilled bartenders knew her drink of choice without her needing to speak, and the carefully prepared canapes satisfied her cravings.
Surrounded by the soothing melodies and enchanting ambiance, Sage allowed herself to unwind. She cherished her own company, finding freedom in her solitude. The lounge walls seemed to whisper encouragement, urging her to let go of the memories that burdened her.
Taking her place in a favorite corner, Sage observed the interactions of fellow patrons. The lounge was a microcosm of stories, with each person seeking solace or connection in their own way. Sage hoped to momentarily divert her attention from her own emotional turmoil by surreptitiously immersing herself in the stories unfolding around her. She became an inadvertent eavesdropper, capturing snippets of conversations that fueled her curiosity and momentarily distracted her from her own thoughts.
And then, in that very moment, her eyes were drawn to him! He sat across the bar, a silver fox in a well-tailored suit, with salt-and-pepper hair that added a touch of distinguished charm to his appearance. His deep-set eyes and chiseled face exuded an irresistible allure. Sage couldn't help but notice the striking similarity between his citrine eyes and her own, a captivating blend of green and brown.
Tumblr media
A mischievous thought crossed Sage's mind. After all, she had promised herself to let loose and flirt with a handsome stranger. And who better to capture her attention than the dreamy silver fox she had often glimpsed, sipping his drink alone? It seemed like the perfect opportunity to indulge in a little harmless fun.
As Sage's eyes lingered on the handsome silver fox, she couldn't help but recall the numerous times she had noticed him before. His striking appearance and impeccable taste in drinks had always caught her attention. She had even ventured to try some of his preferred beverages in the past and found them to be delightful.
As Sage's eyes locked onto the captivating silver fox, a surge of courage coursed through her veins. This was the first time she had ever dared to make a move on a stranger, especially someone as alluring as him. Despite her introverted nature, she felt emboldened by the decision she had made earlier in the night.
Seizing the opportunity to make a move, Sage called the bartender over and discreetly instructed him to prepare a drink of her choice for the mysterious silver fox, on her tab. It was a subtle gesture, a way to capture his attention and pique his curiosity. As the bartender nodded with a knowing smile, sharing in her excitement and anticipation. Sage couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement, wondering how this playful act would unfold.
With her heart racing, Sage eagerly awaited the moment when the drink would reach the hands of the silver fox. Would he accept the gesture with a smile? Would it spark a conversation and open the door to a new connection? The possibilities swirled in her mind, and she couldn't help but smile, feeling a glimmer of hope and excitement for what lay ahead.
As Sage observed from her corner, her heart skipped a beat when the bartender approached the silver fox and presented him with the drink she had ordered. The handsome stranger seemed momentarily puzzled, his gaze scanning the room before landing on her. In a subtle gesture, the bartender discreetly gestured in Sage's direction, and the silver fox followed the cue.
Their eyes locked, and a spark of recognition ignited between them. A slow, seductive smile curved his lips, revealing a hint of intrigue. It was an unspoken invitation, a green light beckoning her to approach.
Sage's pulse quickened, and a surge of anticipation surged through her. Emboldened by the silver fox's response, she gathered her courage and gracefully made her way toward him. Each step brought her closer to the possibility of an exhilarating connection, a chance to explore the allure of the unknown.
As she neared, her heart pounded with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. The air crackled with an electric energy, drawing them together like magnets. Sage's mind raced with anticipation.
As Sage plopped down next to him, she flashed a sly grin and extended her hand, introducing herself with a mischievous charm. "Well, well, well, look who's in luck tonight! I'm Sage Lennox, the designated troublemaker of this fine establishment. They even have a plaque with my name on it!"
She leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "I've been observing your drink choices, my mysterious silver fox, and I must say, you have impeccable taste. Either you're a connoisseur or you've been spying on my drink diary. I haven't decided which is sexier yet."
She winked, her eyes twinkling with humor and audacity. "So, I thought it's high time we break the ice and share a drink. Don't worry, I won't judge you if you spill it all over your shirt. That's reserved for special occasions."
With a playful nudge and a devilish smile, Sage left him pondering the absurdity and irresistible allure of the moment. It was a bold move, fueled by liquid courage and a desire for a memorable encounter.
As he chuckled, his eyes sparkled with amusement, and he played along with Sage's playful gesture. Taking her outstretched hand, he brought it to his lips and pressed a gentle kiss upon her skin, as if playing the role of a chivalrous knight. With a twinkle in his eye, he introduced himself in a tone dripping with charm. "Ah, my lady, I am none other than Kieran Sorensen, a mere mortal captivated by your wit and audacity. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Sage couldn't help but burst into laughter, delighted by his theatrical response. The air around them seemed to crackle with a blend of humor and intrigue.
As their playful banter continued, Sage couldn't resist the urge to investigate Kieran's relationship status. With a mischievous glint in her eye, she glanced at his hand, searching for a ring. To her delight, there was none.
Sage let out a dramatic gasp. "Oh my! I don't see a ring on that finger. Are you a single man or just really good at hiding the evidence?"
Kieran's lips curled into a playful smile as he leaned in closer. "Ah, my dear Sage, I must confess. I'm a widower with two rambunctious adult children. But don't worry, I promise I won't bring any ghosts to our conversation tonight. My ex-girlfriend dumped me long ago, so you won't have to worry about any spirits haunting our budding connection."
Sage burst into laughter, the carefree sound filling the air. "Oh, Kieran, you had me worried there for a moment. I can handle exes, but I draw the line at spirits!"
Kieran joined in her laughter, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Fair enough, my lady. No ghosts or exes to spoil our night. “ he smiles charmingly.
Sage couldn't contain her mischievous grin as she leaned in closer to Kieran. "Well, Kieran, I have to admit, besides your handsome face, there's something about those salt-and-pepper locks that awakens my inner rebellious streak. And let's not forget, I have a slight case of daddy issues, which makes you the perfect target for my mischievous intentions."
Kieran's eyes widened, caught off guard by Sage's audacious proposition. He coughed, trying to regain his composure, and then chuckled nervously. "Are you not concerned that I might be Hannibal Lecter in disguise? You know, luring unsuspecting ladies with my refined palate and questionable taste in dinner companions? After all, I do enjoy a nice Chianti."
Sage burst into laughter, a mischievous glint in her eyes, and then leans in.  "Well, Mr. Silverfox, if you turn out to be the legendary Hannibal Lecter, I have a proposition for you. How about we skip the pleasantries and dive straight into the meaty part? But don't worry, I have a condition: you must ensure I have plenty of mind-blowing orgasms before you decide to take a bite. After all, as the real Hannibal Lecter would say, the meat tastes best when it's tender and tenderized. And what better way to go and meet your demise than being a tantalizing treat for your sophisticated palate?" She winks playfully, causing Kieran to almost spit out his drink in a mix of shock and amusement. He shakes his head, unable to contain his laughter at her audacious and wickedly witty proposal.
With his head resting against his palm, Kieran's gaze lingers appreciatively on Sage's stunning presence. Her petite frame and medium olive skin glows, beautifully complemented by the orange backless midi dress that showcases her tasteful and elegant style. The carefully chosen jewelry and accessories add an extra touch of charm. To him, It's undeniable—Sage is a true beauty.
Tumblr media
However, being the considerate gentleman that he is, Kieran wants to make sure that Sage's judgment is not clouded by the effects of alcohol. He looks at her, his eyes filled with sincerity, and asks, "Darling Sage, forgive me for prying, but I must inquire: How much have you indulged in the pleasures of the drink tonight?" It's important to him that their connection is built on a foundation of clarity and genuine attraction.
Playfully frustrated, Sage lets out an exaggerated sigh, accompanied by an amused eye roll. "Oh dear, Kieran, have you suddenly transformed into a law enforcement officer? Should I expect handcuffs and a breathalyzer?" She leans in closer, her tone dripping with playful sarcasm. "Or is it that you're afraid I'm seeing you as the knight in shining armor, courtesy of those alcohol-tinted lenses? Fear not, my friend, I assure you, I have 20/20 vision when it comes to handsome silver foxes like yourself."
Kieran bursts into laughter at Sage's quick-witted comeback, impressed by her sense of humor. He leans back, a wide grin on his face. "Well played, Sage, well played," he says, his voice filled with amusement. "I must admit, I do have a uniform hanging in my closet, but it's strictly for costume parties and dance-offs with the neighbors." He chuckles, enjoying their lighthearted exchange. "But don't worry, tonight I'm just a humble silver fox enjoying your delightful company, no badge required."
"Alright, Mr. Silver Fox, enough with the chit-chat. Let's cut to the chase. When are we busting out of here?!”
With a charming smile, Kieran extends his arm towards Sage, a gesture of gallantry. She glances at the bartender, who gives her a knowing wink and a heartfelt wish for good luck. Feeling a surge of excitement, she intertwines her arm with Kieran's.
-----------
Sage can't help but express her humorous frustration. "I thought we were heading straight to the bedroom, not to a fancy restaurant!" she complains, amused by the unexpected detour. As they settle into their seats in the elegant surroundings of the posh restaurant, she wonders what surprises await her in this unexpected turn of events.
With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Kieran leans back and feigns innocence. "Oh, Sage, my apologies for the confusion. You see, I thought we could start with wining and dining before we proceed to the more... intimate activities." He winks playfully, causing Sage to burst into laughter. "Don't worry, my dear, we'll get to the bedroom eventually, but let's enjoy this fancy dinner first. Consider it a teaser of what's to come!"
Sage arches an eyebrow, her voice dripping with sarcasm and playful self-deprecation. "Well, Kieran, I must say I'm flattered by this extravagant dinner. Is it because I'm so irresistible that you just had to take me to a fancy restaurant? Or is it just your way of telling me that I'm not worth a simple Netflix and chill session?" She feigns a dramatic sigh. "I mean, who needs candlelight and gourmet food when we could be munching on potato chips in our pajamas, right? But hey, I'll play along. I won't say no to some fine dining. Just don't expect me to transform into a Victoria's Secret model after dessert. I'm more of a 'dad bod' enthusiast myself." She bursts into laughter, her infectious giggles filling the air as she embraces her own playful humor.
Kieran's perceptive gaze lingers on Sage, recognizing the hints of insecurity masked behind her witty banter. He leans back slightly, his playful smile never leaving his face. "Sage, your sense of humor is a delight, but let me set the record straight. This fancy dinner has nothing to do with any perceived worthiness. It's not a test, and you certainly don't need to transform into a supermodel. You're already captivating in your own unique way. In fact, I'm here because I genuinely enjoy your company. So, let's indulge in this fine dining and allow our connection to unfold naturally. No judgments, no expectations. Just  one laugh at a time." His words bring a glimmer of comfort to Sage, melting away her insecurities and leaving room for the possibility of something truly special between them.
Sage leans in closer to Kieran, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Listen, Kieran, I need to give you fair warning. I come with a full package deal of crazy. Daddy issues, therapy sessions, meds, and a knack for becoming clingy faster than a gecko on a glass window. If you show me a bit of kindness, I might just attach myself to you like a GPS tracker. You'll find me lurking in the bushes, singing love songs under your window, or you'll find me hanging around like a persistent monkey, swinging from tree to tree of your attention.  It's not pretty, trust me." she warns.
Kieran bursts into laughter, struggling to contain his amusement at Sage's hilarious warning.  "Oh, You certainly know how to paint a vivid picture. A gecko on a glass window and a persistent monkey?  You've just described a full-blown circus act! Daddy issues, therapy sessions, and a talent for clinginess? I must admit, I've never been courted quite like this before!"  He wipes away tears of laughter from his eyes. “ But let me assure you, my dear,  your craziness only adds to your charm.  In fact, I find your honesty and quirky sense of humor rather endearing.  Just promise me one thing: no throwing bananas or sticking gecko stickers on my car, alright?"  He chuckles, his eyes sparkling with warmth. "In all seriousness, Sage, you're worth every bit of trouble. And who knows, maybe I'll surprise you with my own set of quirks. Deal?"
Sage leans in closer, a sly smile playing on her lips, a glimmer of naughtiness in her eyes. " You know, Kieran, since we're on the topic of quirks, I can't help but wonder what yours might be. What kind of quirks do you have hidden beneath that gentlemanly facade?  Are you secretly Hannibal Lecter, ready to serve me a gourmet meal? Or perhaps you have a dominant side, a closeted Dom waiting to unleash his desires?" She raises an eyebrow suggestively, her voice laced with playful innuendo.
Kieran's eyes widen in surprise, at her innuendos and chuckled. “Ah, Sage, you certainly have a wild imagination! Hannibal Lecter and a closeted Dom? Well, I must say, my culinary skills are impressive, As for my dominant side, let's just say I'm more of a master chef in the kitchen than a master of... other domains. But who knows, perhaps I have a hidden talent for taming unruly soufflés and whisking naughty batters into submission. But who knows, let's just say I have a few surprises in store for you. You'll have to wait and see, won't you?" He smirks, matching Sage's suggestive tone. “
Sage leans back in her seat, and sighs as she looks at Kieran. "Hey, Mr. Sorensen, remember when I warned you about my red flags? Well, I didn't say I didn't warn you!" She shakes her head with a playful sigh. "But here's the thing, Kieran, you're being too nice, and it's making it hard for me to stay true to my warning. So, could you dial down the kindness a bit? I've got a reputation to maintain, you know?" She chuckles and nudges him playfully, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Kieran's gaze softens as he hears her words. He reaches out, taking her hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. "Sage... I understand. I'll try to rein it in a little. Just know that my kindness comes from a genuine place. But I'll respect your boundaries. Deal?" He gives her a warm smile, reassuring her of his understanding.
Sage lets out a sigh, her voice tinged with both defeat and amusement. "You know, Kieran, I don't think I stand a chance against your kindness." She shakes her head, a playful smile on her lips.
Kieran chuckles, his laughter filling the air. "Well, Sage, it's not a competition. I'm just here to show you that you deserve kindness and affection. So, let's call it a tie, shall we?" He winks, enjoying their playful banter.
Sage's playful smile falters for a moment, a hint of vulnerability seeping into her voice. "Kieran, let's hope you're not harboring a secret alter ego as the Bipolar Bandit. I've had enough rollercoaster rides in my past relationships to last a lifetime. One minute they're so nice showering me with ‘kindness’ or declaring undying love, and the next they're out the door faster than a cat chasing a laser pointer. So, please, spare me the emotional whiplash, will you?" She flashes him a wry smile, hoping he catches the humor in her cautionary tale.
Kieran chuckles, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Sage, actions speak louder than words. And let me tell you, I've got a few surprises up my sleeve. You might just discover that I'm not as predictable as you think."
Sage raises an eyebrow, her tone dry. "So you're really bipolar, huh? Keeping me on my toes with your unpredictable nature?"
Kieran's eyes sparkle with warmth as he takes Sage's hand and raises it to his lips, planting a gentle kiss on her skin. He looks into her eyes, his voice filled with sincerity. "Sage, sometimes actions can say more than words ever could. And in this moment, I want to assure you that my intentions are genuine. Time will be the judge, and if you're willing to give me a chance, I'll show you the genuine person I am, step by step, day by day.” He gives her hand a comforting squeeze, emphasizing his sincerity.
Sage takes a deep breath, her confusion evident on her face. She looks directly into Kieran's eyes and blurts out her question without hesitation.
"Are you going to sleep with me tonight? Or are you really intending to date me? Because I can't quite figure you out, Kieran!"
Her words hang in the air, a mix of vulnerability and frustration. She awaits his response, hoping for clarity amidst the swirling emotions inside her.
Kieran meets her gaze, his eyes steady and resolute.
"I want to date you," he declares, his voice firm and filled with genuine intent.
Sage's eyes widen, caught off guard by his direct response. She locks eyes with him, the weight of his words sinking in.
"No!" she exclaims, her voice tinged with surprise.
Kieran's eyebrows shoot up in disbelief. "Why not?!" he responds, his tone filled with curiosity.
"No way!" she exclaims, feigning shock. "If I date you, that means I won't be able to sleep with you tonight? I'm a woman of efficiency, Kieran. That's way too long to wait and cruel! "
He bursts into laughter, his amusement contagious. "Oh, Sage, you never fail to amuse me. I appreciate your straightforwardness, but don't worry, I promise it'll be worth the wait.” he assures, and then winks at her.
They share a light-hearted moment, their banter creating a connection laced with humor and anticipation.
As their food and drinks arrive, Sage remains engrossed in conversation with Kieran, savoring the lightheartedness of their evening. However, her smile falters as she catches the sound of approaching voices, drawing her attention away from their intimate bubble.
Turning her gaze, Sage's eyes widen as she spots a group of individuals—Henry's friends—approaching their table. A mixture of surprise and anticipation washes over her face, and she quickly thinks on her feet, seeking a way to navigate this unexpected encounter.
Sage’s eyes dart to Kieran, a hint of worry in her gaze. She leans closer and whispers softly, "Kieran, do me a favor, would you? Act like you're absolutely enamored with me. Kiss my hand, my cheek, whatever you fancy. Just to throw them off. Consider this your official permission slip to engage in shameless acts of adoration”
Kieran's eyes widen in understanding, sensing the urgency in Sage's request. With a mischievous glint in his eyes, he nods subtly. As the group of people reaches their table, Kieran smoothly takes Sage's hand and brings it to his lips, planting a gentle kiss. The unexpected display of affection catches Henry's friends off guard, their expressions a mix of surprise and curiosity.
As the group of people reaches their table, Sage's eyes light up . "Oh, it's so wonderful to see you all!" she exclaims.
Henry's friends, James and Alex, approach Sage with warm smiles. James extends his hand for a handshake, while Alex nods in greeting. Sage reciprocates their gestures, a genuine warmth evident in her demeanor.
"James, Alex, it's been a while! How have you both been?" Sage asks, genuinely interested in their well-being.
James chuckles, giving Sage a friendly pat on the back. "Sage, always a delight. We're doing great, thanks. Didn't expect to run into you here tonight."
Alex nods in agreement, a friendly grin on his face. "You have a way of brightening up any room, Sage. It's good to see you."
Sage blushes slightly, appreciating their kind words. "You guys are too kind. Let me introduce you to my... um..."
"Date," Kieran smoothly interjects, rising from his seat and extending his hand to James and Alex.
James and Alex's eyes widen in surprise as they recognize Kieran Sorenson, the renowned Angel Investor. They exchange quick glances, their astonishment evident.
James extends his hand to shake Kieran's, a mixture of respect and surprise in his voice. "Mr. Sorensen, it's nice to see you here! We're familiar with your work in the industry. What a pleasant surprise to have you join us."
Alex nods in agreement, a polite smile on his face. "Indeed, Mr. Sorensen. It's a pleasure to meet you. We've heard a lot about your accomplishments. Sage certainly has good taste in dates." Alex winks at Sage.
Kieran accepts their greetings with a polite nod, a touch of amusement playing in his eyes. "Thank you, James and Alex. I appreciate your kind words. It's a pleasure to be here with Sage. She's a remarkable woman."
Curiosity piqued, Sage couldn't help but ask, "How do you guys know Kieran?"
James chuckles, briefly glancing at Alex. "Oh, we work in the same industry. Kieran's reputation precedes him."
Alex nods, adding, "When we saw you two together, we couldn't help but be a bit surprised. You've got quite the catch, Sage." he winks.
Sage blushes, feeling a mix of pride and embarrassment. "Well, I consider myself lucky. Thanks for the kind words, guys."
With a final exchange of pleasantries, James and Alex excuse themselves, realizing they may have interrupted a private moment. They make their way back to their own table, leaving Sage and Kieran to enjoy their quiet and intimate evening together.
----------
At their table, James and Alex couldn't help but discuss their friend Henry and the turn of events with Sage. They exchanged knowing glances, their expressions reflecting a mix of concern and curiosity.
"You know, we've told Henry multiple times that Sage was one of the best things that happened to him," James remarked, shaking his head slightly. "But he just couldn't see it."
Alex nodded in agreement, a touch of regret in his voice. "Yeah, we warned him not to mess it up. Sage is an amazing woman, and she deserves someone who appreciates her."
Their conversation shifted to the current situation. "Now she's dating Kieran Sorenson," Alex said, his tone filled with surprise. "I wonder how Henry will react when he finds out."
James let out a sigh, his concern evident. "I hope he handles it well. Sage deserves happiness, and if Kieran can provide that for her, then I'm all for it."
They continued their discussion, contemplating the possible outcomes and hoping that their friend would understand the significance of what he had lost.

A/N: Hello, everyone! I wanted to give you a heads-up that we have some steamy moments ahead. We'll be diving into the minds of our characters through flashbacks to unravel what the male lead was thinking and explore the dynamics of their past relationship. Additionally, we'll delve into the current journey of our female lead, offering insight into her thoughts and experiences.
You can read the previous chapter at;
Defying Desire - TWO
Defying Desire THREE
Henry sat at his desk, surrounded by a mountain of paperwork, when his eyes landed on a lush green plant on the windowsill. Its vibrant leaves reminded him of Sage, and memories from their first meeting flooded his mind. It was a picturesque garden reception where he first laid eyes on her.
Tumblr media
Sage effortlessly stood out in the crowd, her petite frame elevated by the graceful sway of her midi dress. The choice of her attire, unlike the revealing outfits he was accustomed to, emanated an understated allure that captivated Henry's attention. Yet, it was not merely the dress that drew him in, but the way Sage carried herself with innate poise and confidence. Amidst the bustling garden reception, she appeared serene and composed, navigating the event with an elegant grace that belied her petite stature. Every step she took, guided by her heels, seemed to exude a quiet assurance, leaving an indelible impression on Henry's memory. The way she carried herself with a quiet sensuality. Her subtle confidence and graceful movements left an indelible impression, making him yearn to uncover the layers of her enigmatic charm.
Henry remembered how Sage effortlessly engaged in conversations, her warm demeanor and infectious laughter creating an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie. She would mingle with children and other guests, leaving behind a trail of smiles. But after each interaction, she would retreat to a secluded corner, finding solace in the tranquility and indulging in the delectable offerings from the buffet tables.
It was Sage's enigmatic presence that captivated Henry. She possessed a rare ability to find comfort in solitude, her keen observation and deep understanding of human nature shining through. Their conversations, when they had them, were filled with laughter and sparked by Sage's sharp wit and unique perspectives.
Despite his attempts to move on, Sage remained a lingering thought in Henry's mind. Her deliberate removal of herself from his digital world left him frustrated and puzzled. He couldn't fathom how Sage could be content and thriving without him. The mere idea challenged his ego and ignited a curiosity that refused to subside.
While Henry continued his pursuit of fleeting pleasures and superficial experiences, he couldn't shake the notion of Sage finding fulfillment in her introverted nature. She embraced her creative pursuits, finding solace and inspiration in the beauty of her own company.
As time passed, Henry's frustration grew, and his curiosity intensified. Sage became an enigma, a puzzle he yearned to solve. He questioned whether she missed him, still thought of him, or had found solace in the arms of someone new. The thought of Sage moving on without him, finding her own happiness and fulfillment, left a lingering ache within him.
The stark contrast between their lifestyles became more apparent with each passing day. While Henry chased shallow pleasures, Sage nurtured her inner world, embracing her introverted nature. She flourished in her creative endeavors, reveling in the elegance of her solitude.
In moments of reflection, Henry began to question his own choices and actions. He realized the possibility that he had taken Sage for granted, failing to appreciate the depth and beauty she carried within her. The realization grew stronger, leaving him with a profound sense of loss for something truly extraordinary.
----------
*DREAM POV* Sage slowly opened her eyes, greeted by the soft morning light filtering through the windows. A smile spread across her face as she saw Henry lying beside her, the sheets barely covering his muscular frame. His dark, tousled hair framed his handsome face, accentuating his long lashes and adding to his irresistible charm. A warm feeling stirred within Sage, awakening her desire.
Henry's eyes fluttered open, brimming with playful mischief as they locked onto Sage's gaze. Closing the distance between them, their lips met in a passionate kiss. With a mischievous grin, he playfully murmured against her lips, "Your choice of clothes always adds an exciting touch, Sage. They can be conservative or a bit challenging to take off."
Filled with excitement, Henry decided to skip the buttoned struggle of Sage's pajama top. Instead, he focused on removing her dark blue pajama pants, eager to reveal more of her enticing form. Swiftly, he pulled them down, exposing her bare legs. In a spontaneous move, he tore off her white cotton knickers, earning a scolding from Sage. But he quickly promised to make it right by getting her a replacement. Tension filled the air as he lifted the pajama top, revealing the captivating sight of her ample bosom.
Their lips collided once more, the kiss deepening into a passionate embrace. Henry's hands explored Sage's curves, finding their way to her generous bosom. With skilled and sensual movements, he caressed and teased, evoking a symphony of moans from her lips. Waves of pleasure surged through her body, intensifying their passionate connection.
Henry's lips traced a path of tender kisses along Sage's neck, discovering the exquisitely sensitive spot that never failed to excite her. A playful nip sent pleasurable sensations coursing through her, eliciting a breathless gasp. Gradually, he descended to her ample breast, relishing every moment as his mouth explored its contours. Sage's breath quickened in response, a testament to the heightened pleasure she experienced.
Moving further, Henry's fingertips traced a tantalizing path until they reached the centre of her delicate folds that held immense pleasure. With skilled precision, he massaged Sage's core, his fingers moving in circular motions that increased her arousal. As his mouth descended, his lips and tongue lavished attention on her most sensitive spot, evoking moans of delight from Sage. Lost in the throes of pleasure, her breathing grew heavy, signaling the mounting intensity as she approached the pinnacle of ecstasy.
Henry's mouth remained devoted to Sage's core, intensifying her sensations and driving her pleasure to new heights. The intensity of his gaze locked with hers, forging an unbreakable connection that enhanced their shared experience. As their eyes met in a heated exchange, the combination of his intimate exploration and their unwavering connection heightened Sage's pleasure, leading to a breathtaking climax that left her trembling with deep fulfillment.
Sage's body convulsed with the sheer power of her climax, and an overwhelming desire to pull away surged within her. The intensity threatened to overwhelm her senses, tempting her to seek a temporary escape. However, Henry's unwavering attention and firm grip on her waist held her in place, grounding her in the moment and assuring her safety. Despite her instinctual urge, she couldn't resist being captivated by the intoxicating pleasure that coursed through her, surrendering to its irresistible allure.
With a seductive greeting, Henry whispered a sultry "Good morning" to Sage as slowly moved back up from her core and took his time on her body. His mouth continued its journey along her curves, leaving a trail of kisses in its wake. A gentle nip on her breast elicited a gasp of pleasure, and as he reached her face, he tenderly kissed her cheek. Sage's breath caught as she savored the aftermath of their passionate encounter, her body gradually regaining composure while their eyes remained locked in a scintillating connection.
*END OF DREAM*
As the rain continued to fall outside, Sage slowly woke up from her nap on the couch. She wiped away a few tears from her eyes as she wakes up from the intense dream she had just experienced. It was a memory of a passionate moment she had shared with Henry, stirring up a mix of longing and resignation within her.
Feeling a heaviness in her chest, Sage sighed and sat up from the couch. The raindrops on the windowpane caught her attention, and she found solace in these quiet moments of being alone with her thoughts. Memories of her past relationship with Henry flooded her mind, blending with the rhythmic sound of the rain. She thought about how she had always stayed true to herself, refusing to play games or pretend to be someone she wasn't.
Henry had wanted her to change her to fit his ideal, but Sage couldn't bring herself to play along. She valued being genuine and sincere above all else. As their relationship progressed, Henry discovered her vulnerabilities and insecurities, which disappointed him. He had expected her to be more enigmatic and challenging to get closer to. Sage couldn't help but feel uncertain about whether she had revealed too much too soon, questioning her own worth and wondering if she should have been more guarded.
Wiping away the last of her tears, Sage stood up from the couch, letting go of the lingering emotions from her dream. She found comfort in the gentle rain outside, its soothing sound serving as a backdrop for her introspection. Lost in her thoughts, she gazed at the raindrops falling down the windowpane, allowing herself to reflect and heal.
Sage couldn't easily forget about Henry, even though she had blocked him on social media and deleted his number from her phone. It had been months since their breakup, yet his presence still lingered in her thoughts, leaving her wondering why it was so hard to move on.
One of the reasons that made it tough was Henry's undeniable good looks. He was incredibly handsome, attractive, and charming. Sage had always considered herself lucky to have caught the eye of someone like him. The physical chemistry they shared was intense, and their intimate moments were filled with passion. Those memories kept replaying in her mind, creating a longing she couldn't easily shake off.
Sage had always tried her best to be true to herself while being with Henry. However, there were moments when she felt the need to compromise. She questioned whether she had given up too much of herself to meet his expectations and keep the relationship going. It was a struggle between staying authentic and fitting into the dynamics of their connection.
The challenges Sage faced in letting go were complex. She wondered why it was so hard to forget someone who possessed such magnetism and with whom she had shared intense physical intimacy. Despite her efforts to remove him from her life, his allure remained, making it difficult for her to fully move forward and find closure.
 ----------
*DREAM POV*
Sage's eyes fluttered open, and she was met with an intoxicating sensation as Henry's lips trailed along her neck and shoulders, sending delightful shivers down her spine. The silk spaghetti straps of her nightgown clung to her body, accentuating her curves and teasingly tempting Henry's desires. It was a deliberate choice, a compromise she had playfully made to meet Henry's yearning for more seductive attire. In this intimate memory, she fully embraced her sensuality, relishing in the profound bond she shared with Henry, their connection radiating with intensity and desire.
A smile played upon Sage's lips, as her eyes met Henry’s. The morning light illuminated the room, casting a gentle glow over their intertwined bodies beneath the sheets.  She loved how he always slept shirtless, a habit that had become a delightful familiarity between them. The sight of his chiseled, muscular frame under the sheets filled her with an irresistible longing. Bathed in the soft morning light, their connection grew stronger as they reveled in the intimate comfort of their shared space. Sage's smile spoke volumes, reflecting the deep appreciation she held for Henry's raw, natural appeal, and the undeniable attraction that bound them together.
A playful smirk formed on his lips as he teasingly remarked that her choice of the silk gown was finally a step toward something sexy, although it still fell short in his eyes. He added, his voice laced with desire, "But hey, at least it's easy to slip you out of it." His words held a touch of humor and a hint of anticipation, a reminder of their shared passion and the delight they found in exploring each other's desires. Sage couldn't help but blush and playfully retort, feeling an exhilarating mix of excitement and affection in the air.
Sage, with a quick wit and a twinkle in her eye, playfully retorted, "Well, Henry, I guess it's a good thing I didn't wear a suit of armor to bed. We wouldn't want any wardrobe malfunctions, now would we?" Her remark carried a playful charm.
Sage made a playful comment about wearing armor to bed, which hung in the air. But instead of joining in her laughter, Henry's reaction took a different turn. He couldn't help but burst into laughter, finding the idea funny yet slightly unsettling. Amidst his laughter, he said, "Oh, love, as much as I appreciate your wit, I don't think I'd be too thrilled with you wearing armor in our bed. Let's keep the medieval fantasies on hold, shall we?" Despite his continued laughter, there was a touch of genuine concern in his voice, as if the thought of Sage in armor amused and worried him at the same time. Sage understood his perspective and joined in the laughter, realizing that her clever remark had struck an unexpected chord with Henry.
As they exchanged playful banter, Henry couldn't resist the allure of Sage's lips. Each tender kiss fueled their longing, igniting a passionate fire between them. Sensing Sage's playful resistance, Henry intensified his seductive advances. He whispered intimate words into her ear, his warm breath sending shivers down her back. With every whispered promise and gentle touch, he dismantled her defenses, closing the gap between them. Sage's resistance gradually faded as the magnetic pull of their desires grew stronger.
Henry's voice took on a playful yet alluring tone as he whispered in Sage's ear, aiming to bring both laughter and desire. He couldn't help but inject a hint of cheekiness into his words, saying, "You know, my love, they say laughter is a surefire way to set the mood.”  Henry's lips skillfully traveled along Sage's neck, delivering playful nips and causing a delightful tingle to surge through her. The sensation sent a wave of pleasure coursing through her body, resulting in an exquisite display of goosebumps adorning her skin. Simultaneously, Henry felt the subtle quiver of pleasure resonating in Sage's body, intensifying his own desire.
Henry's hands stealthily ventured beneath the sheets, sliding over the silky fabric of Sage's nightgown, inching it up above her waist. Simultaneously, his other hand delicately explored beneath the neckline of her spaghetti strap nightgown, finding its way to her ample bosom. With a gentle squeeze, he evoked a surge of pleasure that pulsed through Sage's body, intertwining their desires in a moment of exquisite connection. The sheer intensity of their intimacy was palpable.
As Henry's hand travelled further down, reaching the exposed skin of Sage's core, he couldn't help but feel a flicker of annoyance. Discovering that she was still wearing cotton knickers underneath her nightgown, he playfully exclaimed, "Well, well, well, what do we have here? Cotton knickers trying to sabotage our little adventure?" He raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Sage's eyes sparkled with mischief as she met Henry's playful annoyance with a seductive smile. With a sly tone, she replied, "Oh, darling, consider them my little secret weapon, a tantalizing tease to keep you on your toes. Can't make it too easy for you now, can we?" Her words dripped with a combination of allure and playfulness, leaving Henry almost speechless.
With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Henry swiftly tore apart Sage's cotton knickers, caught up in the playful challenge. But as the fabric gave way, Sage's playful expression shifted to a hint of annoyance. "You brute! Me wear knickers, you tear knickers! Me smash!" she exclaimed with a mock scowl, playfully channeling her inner Neanderthal to humorously express her frustration. Henry couldn't help but burst into laughter, realizing the absurdity of the situation. "Oh, my cave-dwelling prowess has clearly gone too far," he chuckled, his amusement evident in his voice.
Sage's playful scowl softened into a gentle pout as she leaned closer to Henry, her voice tinged with a touch of annoyance. "You know, those might have been simple and conservative, but they were also expensive! Can you promise me a shopping spree for luxurious replacement knickers, mister?" Her words carried a playful demand, highlighting the value she had placed on her undergarments. Henry's laughter subsided as he understood the significance of her annoyance. "Consider it done, my love. I'll take you to the finest boutique and personally ensure you have the most exquisite collection of knickers," he responded, his voice filled with sincerity and a hint of mischief.
Henry's lips brushed against Sage's with a playful tenderness, a teasing caress that made her heart skip a beat. A soft laughter escaped their entwined lips, the playful energy dancing between them. But as their connection deepened, the laughter transformed into an intense longing.
Their kiss evolved into a passionate embrace, fueled by the raw desire they shared. Lips melded together, exploring each other with a hunger that grew with every passing second.
Sage could feel the undeniable presence of Henry's hard arousal pressing against her, a subtle reminder of the passion that coursed through their veins. It was an unspoken declaration of his desire, a physical manifestation of the intense connection they shared. The gentle pressure against her heightened her own anticipation, stirring a wave of desire within her.
Sage couldn't help but point out Henry's shirtless state, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "Well, well, look at you, Mr. Shirtless Wonder. Are you trying to show off those muscles of yours?" she playfully teased. "Maybe I should tear those shorts too, just to even the playing field."
Henry laughed, a twinkle of amusement in his eyes. "Oh, Sage, if you had the strength to do it, I'd be quite impressed. But I think we both know who would win in a playful clothing tearing competition," he teased, wiggling his eyebrows with a playful smirk.
Their laughter filled the room, blending with the electric tension between them. His hand glided along the curves of Sage's bosom, caressing with gentle expertise, while his other hand explored the depths of her desire, tracing delicate circles that sent waves of pleasure through her being. The nightgown, now barely clinging to her waist, revealed the captivating allure of her exposed form. His lips descended upon her, passionately claiming her bosom, igniting a fire of longing that engulfed them both in a sensual dance.
Henry skillfully maneuvered Sage onto his body, her back arching against his sculpted muscles. The contrast between his firm physique and her petite body and soft curves created an intoxicating blend of sensations. The heat radiating from his body stirred a primal longing within her.
Henry's impressive girth effortlessly slid into her, stretching her to accommodate him. The pleasure it brought surged through her core, intensifying with each movement. Meanwhile, his skilled hands explored her body, squeezing her ample breast, and skillfully rubbing her clitoris in slow and circular motions , arousing her desires. Sage's breath quickened, and soft moans escaped her lips as Henry's teeth gently grazed her neck, stirring a deep longing within her. His whispered words of love and desire added an intimate layer to their passionate connection.
With each thrust from below, and his hands caressing, massaging her body, and playing with her core, her pleasure intensified. As the sensations heightened, Sage could feel herself reaching the edge of climax. Her walls tightened around him, and in a moment of pure ecstasy, her body convulsed in a powerful release. Her toes curled, her body trembled, and Henry reveled in the overwhelming pleasure he had evoked.
After experiencing the intense waves of pleasure, Sage gently rolled off Henry, her body trembling with the aftermath of her climax. She lay on her back beside him, panting softly, her chest rising and falling with each deep breath. Henry, with a tender affection, showered her back with delicate kisses, tracing a path of adoration along her spine. The gentle touch of his lips against her skin served as a soothing balm, comforting her in the aftermath of their passionate encounter.
Sage turned around to face Henry, her chest heaving as she caught her breath. Beads of sweat glistened on her skin, and her cheeks were flushed with a rosy hue, evidence of her recent climax. She remained silent, the intensity of the experience leaving her momentarily speechless.
Henry, with a mischievous glint in his eyes, teased her playfully, reminding her that he hadn't reached his own climax yet. His voice carried a hint of anticipation as he declared, "I'm not done with you yet. It's my turn now." In her mind, Sage couldn't help but smile, knowing that there were more delicious peaks awaiting her before Henry would find his release. He had always been skilled at prolonging their pleasure, ensuring that each moment was filled with ecstasy, often making her crave for more, making her lose her mind, and this time would be no exception. *END OF DREAM POV*
As Sage woke up from the dream, tears filled her eyes, and she felt a deep sense of confusion. She wondered why she kept having these intense dreams of him and their intimate memories, but then she realized it might be due to her medication, Cipralex and Wellbutrin. Although the dreams were strong, she found comfort in the fact that her medication was helping her think clearly and lifting her out of the darkness of depression.
The lingering question persisted: How could Henry, with whom she had shared intimate moments, let her go so easily? It became clear to her that their connection may not have been as meaningful for him as it was for her. It hurt to realize that his attempts to win her back were driven by ego and familiarity rather than genuine affection. Reflecting on the past, Sage couldn't deny the pain caused by this realization. Additionally, before she left for Tibet for her Everest expedition, Henry had contacted her for a casual encounter, highlighting his superficial intentions.
A wry smile tugged at the corners of her lips and then decides "I need to get him out of my system!". She let out an exaggerated sigh, channeling her inner comedian. "Well, well," she said to herself with a playful tone, "looks like it's time for a grand adventure, even for an introvert like me!"
Feeling a surge of spontaneity, Sage made a bold decision. "I'm going out tonight!" she declared, punctuating her words with a dramatic flourish. She couldn't help but chuckle at the sheer audacity of her own declaration.
But then, she quickly reconsidered. After all, she was still an introvert at heart, and the thought of a crowded venue made her cringe a little. "Alright, alright," she admitted with a mischievous grin, "I'll compromise. I'll go to my favorite lounge bar. It's familiar, cozy, and I can be my true self there."
"And who knows," she thought, a glimmer of mischief in her eyes, "maybe tonight's the night I unleash my wit on some unsuspecting handsome stranger”.

Sage was at home, enjoying a quiet evening of eating and watching movies when her phone suddenly rang. Curiosity piqued, she picked up the call to find her cousin on the other end. A warm smile spread across her face as they exchanged greetings and caught up on each other's lives.
During their conversation, her cousin extended an invitation for a night out with their cousins and friends. They suggested going for a drink to create a fun and carefree atmosphere. Sage hesitated for a moment, her mind flooded with memories of Henry and the unease that lingered after their encounter at the jazz lounge.
With a deep breath, Sage confided in her cousin, sharing her concerns about running into Henry. She explained that she had been actively avoiding him, resorting to online grocery shopping, food delivery, and purchasing clothes and makeup from the comfort of her own home. She had created a safe haven indoors to shield herself from any potential encounters with him.
Her cousin listened attentively, understanding the weight of Sage's apprehension. They assured her that Henry wouldn't be everywhere they went and encouraged her not to let the fear of encountering him hold her back from enjoying her life and reconnecting with loved ones.
"Sage, girl, listen up!" her cousin exclaimed with a mischievous glint in their eyes. "I totally get why you're worried about bumping into Henry, but let me tell you something. Remember how quick-witted and sharp-tongued you used to be? Well, I have no doubt that you can still leave him speechless with your witty comebacks!"
Sage's laughter filled the room as she reminisced about her wit in the past. She had lost some of that fire during her relationship with Henry, but deep down, she knew it was still within her.
"You know what? You're right," Sage replied. "When is it again?"
----------
On Friday night, Sage mustered up the courage to join her cousins and friends at a lively bar and barbecue restaurant in Canary Wharf. As she approached the venue, the tantalizing aroma of sizzling meat and the sight of craft beers being served added to the inviting atmosphere.
Sage playfully scolded her cousins as she arrived, asking why they chose Canary Wharf knowing Henry worked around there. Her cousin assured her that Henry wouldn't be everywhere and encouraged her to unleash her trademark wit if she encountered him.
Sage chuckled, appreciating the support and the reminder of her own strength. With renewed determination, she joined her cousins and friends at the table, feeling joy as they cheered her arrival.
Amidst laughter and animated conversation, Sage embraced the lively atmosphere. The delectable aroma of the barbecue tantalized her senses, and the sight of craft beers heightened the excitement.
As the night unfolded, Sage relished every moment. Stories were shared, jokes were exchanged, and the warm camaraderie of the group filled the air. Her worries about Henry faded into the background as she immersed herself in the joy of the present.
The evening was a delightful blend of delicious food, laughter, and celebration. Sage's witty remarks peppered the conversations, evoking peals of laughter from her companions. Her quick wit had always been her strength, and she felt it resurface, adding a spark of liveliness to the gathering.
With a heart full of gratitude, Sage bid farewell to her cousins and friends, knowing that she had taken another step forward in reclaiming her life. As she walked away from the vibrant venue, she carried with her the memories of laughter, the taste of delicious food, and the unwavering support that reminded her she was stronger than she had ever thought possible.
As Sage stepped out of the vibrant venue, her senses were alive with the mingling scents and flavors of the evening. The lively atmosphere and the joyful moments shared with her cousins and friends had left her feeling content, but a slight buzz from the drinks reminded her of the indulgence.
In her slightly intoxicated state, Sage realized she was in no condition to drive herself home. Determined to clear her head before finding a chauffeur service, she reached into her Gucci bag and retrieved a cigarette stick she had taken from her cousin's box earlier. The familiarity of the ritual brought her a sense of comfort, she only smokes when having drunk too much,—it was a way to temporarily escape the swirling thoughts in her mind.
Sage stood there, her frustration mingling with a twinge of disappointment as her momentary escape slipped through her fingers. The irony of bumping into Henry at this very moment wasn't lost on her, and she muttered to herself, shaking her head with resignation and annoyance.
"What gives you the right to take my cigarette?" Sage protested, her voice laced with irritation, as Henry swiftly removed it from her mouth and discarded it.
Henry met her gaze with a mixture of concern and disapproval. "Sage, you know smoking isn't good for you. It's a harmful habit, and I can't just stand by and watch you harm yourself."
Sage's frustration swelled, and a mix of emotions bubbled within her. "Thanks for your concern, Henry, but I can take care of myself."
Noticing Sage clutching her car keys, Henry's concern deepened. "Sage, how much have you had to drink? It's not safe for you to drive under the influence."
Reacting decisively, Henry reached out and firmly took hold of Sage's car keys, holding them securely in his hand. "I can't let you drive in this state, Sage," he said firmly. "It's too dangerous, and I won't allow you to put yourself at risk."
Sage sighed, feeling annoyed. "Henry, that's why I was actually looking for a chauffeur service to drive my car home before I bumped into you. Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to have my car keys back."
Henry held his ground, his expression resolute. "Sage, I understand your independence, but your safety comes first. I'll make sure you get home safely. Let me take care of it."
Sage's frustration grew, mixed with a sense of indignation. "Henry, stop grabbing my things! Give me back my car keys. I appreciate your concern, but I can take care of myself."
In a sudden and unexpected move, Henry reached out and firmly grasped Sage's hand, his touch firm yet gentle. He looked into her eyes, concern evident in his voice. "Sage, where is your car? Let me drive you home. I don't want you to take any risks, especially when you've had too much to drink."
Sage's defiance flared, her independent spirit refusing to yield. She yanked her hand away from Henry's grasp, her voice laced with determination. "Henry, I appreciate your concern, but I can handle myself. I don't need your help or anyone else's. Give me back my car keys."
When Henry himself didn't give the car keys back, she attempted to walk away, frustration evident in her voice. "Fine! I'll just get replacement keys another day and call an Uber home."
Henry watched as Sage attempted to walk away, but he couldn't let her go just yet. With a determined expression, he stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "Sage, don't be so stubborn. I just want to make sure you get home safely. Where is your car?"
Sage crossed her arms, a defiant glint in her eyes. She remained silent, staring at him with unwavering determination.
A mischievous smile tugged at the corners of Henry's lips as he saw her resolve. "Well then, if you insist on being stubborn, I'll have to resort to drastic measures." He playfully threatened to carry her on his shoulder, a mix of amusement and genuine concern in his eyes.
Sage's defiance didn't waver as she challenged him, "Do your worst, Henry."
Without hesitation, Henry scooped Sage up, swinging her small body onto his shoulders, his grip secure yet gentle. He intended to take her to his car instead, to ensure her safety and get her home.
Sage protested, demanding to be put down, her voice filled with annoyance. Henry finally relented, gently lowering her back down to the ground. Annoyed yet somewhat resigned, Sage gave in and led him to her car, begrudgingly accepting his offer to drive her home.
As Henry drove them towards Sage's home, a palpable tension filled the air. Sage couldn't ignore the closeness, both physical and emotional, that this unexpected situation had brought upon them. Determined to set the record straight, she broke the silence.
"You know, Henry," Sage began, her voice firm but tinged with vulnerability, "This doesn’t change anything between us."
Henry's grip tightened slightly on the steering wheel, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. "I understand, Sage," he replied, his voice filled with a mix of regret and understanding. "I don't expect things to magically revert to how they used to be. But I can't deny that seeing you tonight, it was nice seeing you tonight, you look beautiful..."
As Henry smiled at her with his charming grin, Sage couldn't help but feel her heart flutter in response. She quickly clenched her teeth and averted her gaze, determined not to let herself be swayed. The fact that he appreciated her appearance tonight took her by surprise.  "Well, Henry, it's about time you realized the true extent of my beauty. I was starting to think you needed glasses!"
Henry chuckled, the tension between them momentarily lightening. His eyes flickered with a genuine smile as he glanced at Sage, appreciating her appearance for the first time in a long while. The dark maxi dress, the tasteful makeup that highlighted her best features, and the elegant gold jewelry that complemented her outfit—all of it contributed to an understated yet captivating look. Throughout their history, Sage had always embraced a conservative style, which Henry had previously found dull. Yet, now, after their time apart, he seemed to be valuing the modesty in her personal fashion. It made him reflect on his past preferences and question if he had been too focused on the allure of seductive women, overlooking the beauty of understated elegance. He realized that there was nothing inherently wrong with being sexy and alluring, but what had been wrong was his attempt to mold Sage into someone she wasn't.
And in that moment, Henry couldn't help but notice the allure that Sage possessed in her own unique way. It wasn't about trying to fit into society's conventional standards of seduction or sensuality—it was about embracing her individuality and allowing her natural charm to shine through. Henry realized that he had been blind to this before, too consumed by his own expectations. Now, he saw the truth: Sage had her own magnetism, a captivating quality that drew him in without conforming to any predefined notions. In that realization, a newfound appreciation for her true allure began to blossom within him.
As the car pulled up in front of Sage's townhouse, Henry turned off the engine and glanced at her. He stepped out of the car and opened the door, offering his hand to help her out.
"Thank you," Sage said, accepting his gesture and stepping onto the sidewalk. She turned to face him, her eyes meeting his.
Henry's gaze held a mixture of warmth and a hint of playfulness. "Sage, it's been a long night, and I must admit, I'm feeling quite parched. Could you do me a favor and offer me a drink? I wouldn't want to intrude, but a nightcap sounds rather tempting right now."
Sage hesitated for a moment, her mind racing with conflicting thoughts. She knew that inviting Henry into her home at this hour might stir up old emotions and lead to unpredictable outcomes. Yet, the spark between them was undeniable, and the curiosity to see where it could lead tugged at her heart.
She bit her lower lip, contemplating the invitation. "Henry, I'm not sure if it's a good idea. It's late, and I don't want, you know, things to happens."
Henry took a step closer, his eyes gleaming with genuine interest. "Sage, I understand your concerns, and I respect your boundaries. But sometimes, taking a chance is the only way to find out if something beautiful can blossom from what we share. Let's keep it light, a simple drink, and a chance to reconnect."
Sage looked into Henry's eyes, searching for sincerity and finding a glimmer of hope. She took a deep breath, her hesitation gradually fading away. "Alright, Henry. One drink."
Henry's face brightened with a charming smile. "Perfect. I promise not to overstay my welcome. Lead the way."
Together, they walked up to Sage's front door, a mixture of nervousness and anticipation hanging in the air. As Sage unlocked the door and stepped inside, she couldn't help but wonder how this unexpected turn of events would unfold. The decision to invite Henry in for a drink had the potential to reignite old flames or open up new chapters.
As Henry stepped into Sage's house, a sense of warmth and coziness enveloped him. The ambiance was inviting, with soft lighting casting a gentle glow across the room. His eyes were drawn to the fireplace, where a display of framed pictures caught his attention. It was a collection of Sage's expedition to Mount Everest.
He walked closer, studying the photographs with genuine interest. Each image revealed a different aspect of Sage's journey, from the breathtaking landscapes to the triumphant smiles of accomplishment. Henry couldn't help but feel a surge of admiration for her strength and courage.
Meanwhile, Sage bustled about in the kitchen, preparing their drinks. The clinking of glasses and the aroma of a carefully chosen beverage filled the air. As she moved with grace and purpose, Henry couldn't help but admire the sight of her, feeling a renewed appreciation for the woman she is.
Sage turned around, holding the drinks in her hands, and her eyes met Henry's. A genuine smile graced her lips, radiating happiness and contentment. It was clear that she found joy in the memories captured on display and in the life she had built for herself.
Setting the drinks down on a nearby table, Sage gestured for Henry to take a seat. "Please make yourself comfortable," she said warmly. "I hope you enjoy the drink."
As Henry took a seat and settled into the plush armchair, a wave of comfort washed over him. The familiar surroundings of Sage's home enveloped him like a warm embrace. It was a place that exuded a sense of tranquility and sanctuary, perfectly suited for an introvert seeking solace from the outside world.
The soft lighting, the carefully arranged décor, and the subtle scent of a scented candle all contributed to the cozy ambiance. It felt like stepping into a haven, where one could retreat from the chaos of the world and find solace in quiet moments of reflection.
Sage joined him, taking a seat across from Henry. She gazed at him with a softness in her eyes, as if understanding the comfort he found in her home. It was a testament to the thoughtfulness and care she put into creating a space that mirrored her own inner sanctuary.
Henry sipped his drink, feeling the warmth spread through his body. As he savored the flavor, he couldn't help but appreciate the thoughtful gesture.
As they settled into a comfortable rhythm of conversation, Sage couldn't resist seizing the opportunity to tease Henry about a long-standing assumption. With a mischievous glint in her eyes, she leaned in closer, a playful smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
"You know, Henry," Sage began, her voice dripping with mock seriousness, "I have a bone to pick with you. I heard through the grapevine that you believed I climbed Mount Everest just to get your attention."
Henry's eyes widened in mock surprise, recalling the numerous phone calls he made to her when he found out she was in Tibet. "Well, now that you mention it, I might have had a fleeting thought like that. But come on, Sage, can you blame me? You disappeared off the face of the Earth, and suddenly, there you were scaling the highest peak known to mankind!"
Sage burst into laughter, shaking her head. "Oh, Henry, you always did have a way of making things about yourself. Let me tell you the real story. I climbed Everest because I wanted to conquer a personal challenge and experience the awe-inspiring beauty of the world. And while I was up there freezing my toes off, impressing you was the last thing on my mind!"
Henry chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I suppose I should have known better. Everest is not exactly a walk in the park for attention-seeking purposes."
Sage playfully looked at him. "No, it's more like a walk in the park to freeze your fingers off and gasp for oxygen. But hey, if it makes you feel special, we can pretend that it was all for you."
They both laughed, their playful banter filling the room with warmth. The past misunderstandings were now washed away by the lightness of their conversation.
Sage raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a mischievous smile. "Oh, Henry, I must say, your ego truly knows no bounds! The thought of freezing my toes off and risking my life at high altitudes, all for the sole purpose of impressing you? Now that's what I call dedication!"
Henry couldn't help but chuckle, his laughter echoing through the room. "Well, Sage, I always knew I had a certain charm, but I never realized it could inspire such extreme feats. Maybe I should start a mountaineering school for all the admirers looking to win my heart."
Sage's eyes sparkled with mirth as she played along. "Yes, Henry's School of Extreme Romance. Step 1: Climb a treacherous mountain. Step 2: Survive freezing temperatures. Step 3: Present your frostbitten fingers as a token of love. It's foolproof!"
Henry joined in her laughter, his eyes crinkling with amusement. "Yes, they'll be trekking through blizzards and risking their lives, all in the name of love and frostbite. I should start handing out certificates for 'Most Extreme Admirer.'"
Sage wiped away a tear of mirth from her eye. "Oh, absolutely! And don't forget the 'Frozen Limb of Dedication' award. It'll be the ultimate symbol of their undying affection!"
They both dissolved into a fit of giggles, their sides aching from the sheer absurdity of their banter.
As Sage and Henry continued their lighthearted conversation, their laughter filled the room. In the midst of their animated exchange, an unexpected mishap occurred. Sage leaned in slightly to emphasize a particularly witty remark, but her hand slipped, causing her to lose her balance. In a split second, she found herself dangerously close to Henry's face, their lips brushing against each other in a gentle, accidental touch.
Time seemed to stand still for a moment as their eyes widened in surprise. Sage quickly pulled back, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "Oh! I-I'm so sorry, Henry! That was completely unintentional. It was a gravity malfunction, I swear!"
Henry, caught off guard but unable to suppress a smile, chuckled softly. "Well, I must say, Sage, that was quite the gravity malfunction. I've never been on the receiving end of such a... serendipitous accident."
As Sage regained her composure after the accidental lip brush, a flicker of uncertainty danced in her eyes. She could feel her heart tugging her towards the possibility of giving in to Henry, but she knew deep down that it wasn't the right time or the right path for them. Resolute in her decision, she took a deep breath and decided to take control of the situation.
Sage took a step back and dramatically fanned herself with her hand, her eyes widening in mock horror. "Oh no, Henry! Our accidental lip collision has set off an irreversible chain of events! We're doomed! Doomed, I tell you! As much as I enjoy your company, I'm afraid I must kindly ask you to exit the stage. The show is over!"
Henry blinked in surprise, his playful expression transforming into a mock pout. "Oh, come on, Sage! Don't kick me out just yet. I promise I won't cause any more gravity malfunctions."
Sage crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, feigning seriousness. "Oh, you're not being kicked out for the gravity malfunction. You're being kicked out for the potential consequences of said gravity malfunction. Can't have any more accidents on the agenda, you know?"
Henry let out a dramatic sigh, pretending to be crestfallen. "Fine, fine, I shall retreat gracefully. But mark my words, Sage, the gravity may have malfunctioned once, but it won't be able to resist our magnetic connection forever!"
Sage chuckled and shook her head. "Oh, Henry, always the charmer. But for now, it's time to bid adieu. The door is that way, my friend. Don't let it hit you on the way out!"
With a final exchange of playful banter, Henry made his way towards the door, a smile playing on his lips. Sage watched him go, feeling a mixture of longing and satisfaction. She closed the door behind him, leaning against it with a wistful smile. She knew she had made the right choice, even if it meant resisting the temptation for now.
A/N: Hi Everyone!
As I mentioned before, from the very beginning, my intention was to challenge the notion that the male lead should effortlessly win over the female lead's heart. Instead, I wanted our male protagonist to embark on a journey of self-reflection and growth, where he learns valuable lessons about understanding, respect, and the true meaning of love. It is through this process that he can become deserving of the female lead's affections.
Equally important was the development of our female lead. I wanted her to undergo her own personal transformation, embracing her independence, and asserting her desires and boundaries. She is not a passive character waiting to be won over, but a strong individual with her own growth trajectory.

Defying Desire ONE
Sage's friends, Lisa and Emma, sat beside her in the cozy corner of the lounge bar. It had been weeks since Sage had ventured outside, preferring the comfort of her own home and the solace of her thoughts. But tonight was different—a special occasion to celebrate her return and reconnect with her closest companions.
As the jazz band played a soulful tune in the background, Sage raised her glass of artisanal cocktail, savoring its intricate flavors. The delicate glass clinked against Lisa's and Emma's glasses, a toast to their enduring friendship and shared adventures.
With mischievous grins on their faces, Lisa and Emma couldn't resist teasing Sage about her recent travels. They playfully inquired about the souvenirs she had brought back from Tibet and Shanghai, knowing her penchant for meaningful trinkets and unique mementos.
Amidst laughter and banter, the conversation drifted to Sage's remarkable Everest expedition. Lisa and Emma marveled at her bravery and determination, their admiration evident in their eyes. They celebrated her accomplishments, raising their glasses in a toast to her indomitable spirit.
In this refined ambiance, surrounded by cherished friends, Sage felt a sense of belonging and acceptance. The lounge bar became her sanctuary, a place where she embraced her introverted nature while enjoying the company of others. It stood in stark contrast to the vibrant yet superficial nightlife that her ex, Henry, had immersed himself in.
Here, the drinks were crafted with care, the canapés were works of art, and the music resonated with soul. Sage reveled in the atmosphere—a testament to her growth and the choices she made for herself. She had found her own version of joy, one that didn't require sacrificing her authenticity.
As Sage and her friends immersed themselves in laughter and conversation, a sudden interruption disrupted the harmonious atmosphere. A waiter approached their table, carrying a tray with a carefully crafted cocktail. He set the drink in front of Sage, accompanied by a nod and a subtle gesture towards a distant figure.
Sage's gaze followed the waiter's direction, her eyes widening as she spotted Henry sitting at a nearby table, surrounded by his companions. His eyes fixed on Sage. He raised his glass in a playful salute as a greeting, a mischievous glint in his eyes. The room seemed to fade away, and the joy that had filled Sage's heart moments ago dissipated like smoke in the air.
Sage's heart skipped a beat, her thoughts swirling with a mix of emotions. She couldn't help but notice the presence of a few stunning women in Henry's group, exuding confidence and beauty. Among them, one woman in particular captured his attention, oozing an aura of sultriness and allure that stood in stark contrast to Sage's elegance.
Witnessing Henry's focus shift towards the captivating woman stirred a sense of longing and hurt within Sage. It reminded her of what they had shared and the connection they once had. Despite her efforts to move on, the sight of him with another woman ignited a pang of jealousy deep within her.
Intuitively, Sage began to suspect that Henry's actions were deliberately aimed at evoking these feelings. The thought seemed inconceivable, yet the evidence before her eyes suggested otherwise. The mischievous glint in his eyes and the calculated choice of venue left little room for doubt.
Her friends exchanged concerned glances, sensing the sudden shift in Sage's demeanor. They knew the pain she had endured and how this unexpected gesture from Henry could unravel her hard-earned peace. Emma gently reached out, placing a comforting hand on Sage's arm, silently conveying her support.
As her friends observed the unfolding scene, they couldn't help but voice their confusion. "Why here, of all places?" Lisa remarked, her voice tinged with bewilderment.
The question hung in the air, permeating the atmosphere with an unspoken understanding. Sage's perceptive friends shared in her perplexity, sensing that there was more to Henry's actions than met the eye.
Despite her friends' attempts to change the topic and engage her in lighthearted conversations, Sage struggled to divert her attention from Henry's presence. Her stolen glances toward his table revealed a scene of flirtation and laughter, a stark contrast to the emotions swirling within her.
Every glimpse of Henry's interaction with the captivating woman sent a pang of longing through Sage's heart. The desire to escape, to find solace in the privacy of a bathroom stall and release the tears welling up inside her, battled with her determination to maintain composure and appear unaffected.
Sage's friends made valiant attempts to distract her with funny stories and witty banter, unleashing their arsenal of jokes and humorous anecdotes in an effort to coax a smile back onto her face. For brief moments, she would succumb to their efforts, finding respite in laughter and camaraderie.
However, no matter how hard she tried to ignore the sight of Henry's flirtatious exchanges and infectious laughter, they inevitably seeped back into her consciousness. It was as if a magnetic force drew her gaze back to him, unraveling the facade of strength she had carefully constructed.
The conflicting emotions within Sage waged a silent battle. On one hand, she yearned to distance herself from the pain, to protect her vulnerable heart. But on the other hand, she wanted to hold her head high, to project an image of strength and resilience in the face of Henry's actions.
The struggle intensified as the evening wore on, each passing minute heightening Sage's awareness of the lingering presence of the man who had once held her heart. While her friends continued their efforts to shield her from the emotional onslaught, Sage couldn't help but feel the weight of her longing and the tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
As the announcement echoed through the lounge bar, a ripple of excitement swept through the crowd. The open mic session was about to begin, offering a chance for anyone to take the stage and showcase their talent. Lisa, always the instigator of adventure, seized the moment to encourage Sage.
With a mischievous wink, Lisa whispered, "Come on, Sage, show them what you've got. It's time to steal the spotlight." Emma, sensing the significance of this opportunity, squeezed Sage's hand gently, silently conveying her support.
Sage hesitated for a moment, her eyes involuntarily drifting towards Henry, who seemed to have already forgotten about her presence. In that moment, a surge of determination welled up within her. Deep in her heart, she yearned to respond to his manipulative move, to reclaim her power in a way that only she could.
Summoning her strength, Sage made her way to the stage with quiet confidence. Approaching the band, she requested Adele's "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)." As the lone guitar strummed its first chords, a delicate tapestry of melody filled the room, and Sage's voice, slightly lower than Adele's, resonated with emotion and authenticity.
“This was all you, none of it me” Bathed in the soft glow of the spotlight, Sage's voice blended seamlessly with the music, capturing the attention of everyone present. Each word she sang carried a quiet strength, enunciated with a hint of vulnerability, a testament to the pain she had endured. The audience’s attention was drawn to the stage
As Sage continued to sing with unwavering conviction, her voice enveloped the room, captivating the audience, including Henry and his companions. Henry's surprise and recognition were evident as his attention shifted from his companions to the stage. One of his friends nudged him, pointing towards Sage and exclaiming, "Hey... isn't that Sage! I didn't know she could sing so well."
The lone guitar gracefully transitioned into a full band accompaniment, amplifying the power and depth of Sage's performance. The music swelled, intertwining with Sage's voice, creating a tapestry of sound that resonated with the hearts of those listening.
"Send my love to your new lover, treat her better," Sage's voice soared, punctuating each word with urgency and determination. Her lyrics became a defiant declaration, a response and counterattack to Henry's manipulative actions.
In the midst of the chorus, Henry's attention was undeniably captured. His eyes widened in surprise and disbelief at the song’s message, realizing the consequences of his past actions. His friends, too, turned their gaze towards the stage, listening intently to the familiar voice that had taken them by surprise.
One of Henry's friends discreetly tapped his shoulder in a gesture of support, their eyes meeting in acknowledgment of Sage's impactful performance and the underlying message it carried. A whisper escaped his lips, "I told you not to do this..." — a quiet admission of the consequences of his manipulation.
The crowd swayed and swelled with the music, moved by the power and honesty behind Sage's voice. Some found solace in the lyrics, feeling a personal connection to the story being told. Perhaps there were women and men who had experienced similar heartbreak and found comfort in the solidarity in the song. Others reflected on their own past actions and were inspired to treat their partners with greater respect and care.
"I was too strong, you were trembling," Sage's voice carried a resolute tone, resonating with a sense of liberation. Each word channeled her frustration and disappointment, directly challenging Henry's manipulative ways.
The song became a battle cry, fearlessly exposing the imbalance of power in their past relationship. "You couldn't handle the hot heat rising, baby, I'm still rising," she sang, her voice imbued with a newfound self-assurance. It was a declaration that she had outgrown the limitations he had imposed upon her and emerged stronger than ever.
As the chorus echoed through the venue once more, the energy in the room intensified. The crowd, fully invested in the song, clapped, cheered, and swayed to the rhythm. Women and men alike resonated with the songs' message, finding inspiration in her defiance.
With each word, her voice grew stronger, filled with defiance and resolve. The band members harmonized with her, creating a powerful chorus of voices.
"I'm giving you up, I've forgiven it all, you set me free," Sage's voice soared with liberation. Each word carried a weight of finality, a declaration that she would no longer participate in the games of manipulation. It was a clear message to Henry.
“We've gotta let go of all of our ghosts We both know we ain't kids no more”
In that moment, Sage stood on the stage, basking in waves of applause and support. As the applause and cheers subsided, Sage took a deep breath, her heart overflowing with a sense of liberation and closure. With grace and poise, she took her final bow, acknowledging the audience's appreciation and their shared journey of healing.
Expressing gratitude, Sage thanked the band for their exceptional collaboration, and they reciprocated, appreciating her talent and the opportunity to create something magical together. It was a shared moment of camaraderie and artistic triumph.
Sage's gaze then drifted toward Henry and his companions. Their eyes briefly met, conveying a silent message of strength and defiance. With that, Sage tore her gaze away, refusing to let his presence dampen her spirit any longer.
Rejoining her friends Emma and Lisa, who were beaming with pride, Sage received showers of praise for her fantastic performance. With a shared understanding, they decided to leave the bar, seeking a new setting where they could continue their evening free from the lingering shadows of the past.
A/N: Hello, everyone! I wanted to share a few thoughts about the inspiration behind this series. It all started with my frustration over a book I recently read, where the female lead fell for manipulative tactics, specifically when the male lead used jealousy as a tool. Unfortunately, this is something that happens in real life too, and it can be incredibly painful.
So, I embarked on a journey to create a story where the female lead fights back, refusing to succumb to manipulation. In this series, Sage, our protagonist, takes a stand and asserts her self-worth. Through her character, I wanted to explore the strength and resilience that can be found within oneself, even in the face of heartbreak.
I hope you enjoyed this story and found it empowering. I believe it's important to challenge narratives that perpetuate unhealthy dynamics and encourage individuals to prioritize their own well-being. This series has given me the opportunity to express that sentiment.
Stay tuned for more installments, as I continue to delve deeper into Sage's journey and explore the lessons that Henry, the male lead, needs to learn.

THREE  Conclusion
Vivienne walks to the wooden dock and looked around to find a few people, taking a late afternoon swim. It wasn’t the season where there are many tourists, which explains the almost empty shore.
She hesitated to remove her skirt wrap for a while, as she felt that her bathing suit looked a little skimpy. Earlier, Mildred who claims to be her ‘stylist’, forced her to wear the swimwear. But looking around, most of the female swimmers wore a skimpier swimwear than her. With a bit of hesitation, she jumps into the cool crystal clear waters of Loch Lomond followed by a big splash, and dove underneath, before rising to the surface once more.
She let herself float, and looked at the blue sky and its white clouds. She felt relaxed and contented, no worries crossing her mind, especially painful thoughts about Tom.
She swam back and forth, near the mid part of the lake and back to the dock. When she finally grew tired of swimming, she swam back to the dock and picked up her things, before heading back to her lodge.
Upon reaching her front door, she quickly entered the room and clicked the lock closed. Proceeding to take off her wet swimwear, she stopped and when she turned around, she found an unexpected face inside her room.
“Don’t stop now... I was enjoying it...”Tom said playfully, and this made Vivienne’s brows furrow. How dare he show up here, when he was the cause of all this trouble.
“What are you doing here Tom? how the hell did you get in here?! This is a private lodge!” she demanded an answer.
“I wanted to see you and talk to you...” was his reply.
“Couldn’t this wait until I reach London?!”
“No...”
With a sigh of resignation, Vivienne opens the door, prompting him to get out. “Would you please leave my room, and wait for me in the living room? I need to bathe and change clothes!”
“Go ahead... it’s not as if I haven’t seen the rest of you...” was his cool reply.
Now Vivienne was fuming mad, how dare he turn up here, after everything he had done to her. She rubbed her forehead in frustration. “I can’t do this right now... I don’t want to listen or fight with you. I’m on this vacation to unwind, and you’re ruining it!” she sighed and looked back up at him. “You should go, I still love you Tom, but everything is different now. So... just leave.”
“You’re right,” he slowly sauntered towards her direction. “Everything is different now, but you still love me...” his mouth curved into a grin.
He leaned down and softly kissed her on the lips, whilst his hand cupped her face.
She shivered at his touch that wracked her body. She used to love the feeling that he gave her. However, things are different now. Despite that, she had never been good at turning down seduction from him, and now that he has approached her again, all of her desire for him felt like it was about to explode any moment now.
His kisses were intoxicating, and she was awash with the drunken feeling. He stopped kissing her and grabbed her hand, pulling her back into her bedroom.
She tried to protest once more, jerking her body out of his grip. But her words got caught in her throat, as he grabbed her shoulders and pushed her back against the wall.
His hands slid up her waist to have a feel of her bare skin. She gasped into his mouth, every nerve responding to him. She hadn’t been touch for months now, but it wasn’t just that.
“T-Tom...” she breathed against his lips.
“Tell me to stop, and I will, but you want this. I want this.”
“I...” she didn’t have the words to respond. She didn’t know what she wanted. Everything was so confusing. She still loves him and wants him, but she felt so conflicted.
“I’ve thought about doing this for weeks...” he kissed her neck and squeezed her arse. “I missed how you tasted, how your skin felt against mine, how it would feel like to have you again,”
His lips engulfed her lower lip and sucked on it. The sensation was too much for her as she closed her eyes and let into her emotions. Vivienne groaned slightly as she opened her mouth to give him better access. Intensifying the searing kiss.
She could feel a groan of approval from Tom, knowing that he too had missed her taste just as much as she had missed his. His hand reaches from her knee, giving it a prod, and lifted it, pushing her up against the wall.
When Tom finally broke the kiss and pulled back, he found himself breathing heavily. Vivienne watched as his chest rose and fall, as her own breath came in pants. Her lips felt tender and swollen, in the best possible way.
“Tom...” she whispered, her body still held against the wall by him. He trailed one long finger across her lips, and it felt so good to her.
She chided herself for being so weak, as her heart was dangerously close to betraying her again. Her head was screaming warning signals that were going unnoticed.
Her swimwear quickly came undone, as Tom pulls the strap down, and cupped her soft warm breast in his large hands. Rough hands pulled the rest of her swimwear down, as she wriggled out of it.
He pauses for a while and unbuttons his shirt and shrugs it off.  She looks at him admiringly before he took hold of the of her head, and pulled her to meet his mouth, for a long, slow kiss.
Tom carried Vivienne to the inviting bed, their eyes locked in a battle of desire and uncertainty. Vivienne's heart raced, torn between the hurt of the past and the lingering yearning. Tom's gentle touch sent shivers down her spine, heightening her senses.
In the dimly lit room, Tom laid Vivienne down, their connection palpable. The air was filled with a mix of their shared history and the intoxicating scent of desire. Vivienne's emotions swirled within her as Tom's hands explored her body with tender urgency.
Their bodies entwined, passion igniting. Vivienne grappled with conflicting emotions, torn between surrendering to pleasure and guarding her wounded heart. The soft brush of Tom's lips against her neck elicited a sigh of longing and apprehension. Their movements synchronized, blurring the lines between pain and pleasure, as they became lost in a whirlwind of sensations.
"I love you, Vivienne," he whispered with every deep thrust, igniting a fire within her. She yearned to reciprocate, but her voice eluded her. Tom's ardor left her body wrecked, clinging to him as he ravished her. They moved together, their bodies sliding and entangling, strands of wet hair sticking to their flushed faces. Amidst this whirlwind of desire, she lost herself, unsure if the moisture on their skin was his sweat, hers, or a sensuous fusion of their shared fantasies. The room resonated only with the rhythmic collision of their bodies. She tightened her legs around his back, urging him deeper, while his primal grunts reverberated through the air. Just as he teetered on the edge of losing control, he descended to her neck, suckling her sensitive flesh, sending intoxicating shivers down her spine.
That final act unleashed a torrent within Vivienne, propelling her over the precipice of pleasure. Ecstasy coursed through her body, her eyes rolling back, back arching, and her inner walls clenching around his slick shaft, drenched in their combined essence. Waves of pleasure rippled through her, obliterating her sense of time and self, immersing her in euphoric oblivion. For a brief moment, she forgot where she was, who lay atop her. Then, she felt him quiver, succumbing to his own release, his cry of pleasure mingling with her name. Oh, Tom, she whispered within her mind as he spilled his essence deep inside her, thrusting fervently until his body finally stilled, collapsing onto hers in a beautiful mess of passion.
They remained entwined, his face buried in her fragrant tresses, their bodies fused together. Vivienne listened as their breaths gradually steadied, matching the rhythm of their hearts. She planted tender kisses along the contours of his face, his gaze locking with her own, their eyes an interplay of stormy gray meeting azure.
"I love you too, Tom," she murmured, her voice a caress as she admired the strands of her hair cascading over his handsome countenance. He leaned in, meeting her lips in a soft, lingering kiss. The fervor of their earlier passion had dissipated, replaced by a gentler intimacy. Their lips trembled against each other, conveying a myriad of unspoken emotions. Tom rose, extending a helping hand to Vivienne. Her weakened state rendered her unable to walk, but he effortlessly lifted her, cradling her in his arms, and carried her to the sanctuary of her bathroom. With each step, desire and regret entwined within her, weaving a tapestry of longing and consequence, underscoring the weight of her decision to succumb to his seductive allure once more.
----
As the early evening cast its gentle glow upon the room, Vivienne stirred from her slumber. The memories of their passionate encounter in the bathroom and their subsequent lovemaking in the bed lingered, veiled in the intimacy of tangled sheets. Sitting up, she surveyed Tom's handsome face, framed by tousled hair, and his lean, muscular form, the sheets loosely draped around his waist. He slumbered peacefully, unaware of the conflicted emotions coursing through her.
Now fully awake, Vivienne placed her palm against her temple, a wave of regret washing over her. She acknowledged her own vulnerability, chastising herself for succumbing to his seductive allure once again. With a sigh heavy with resignation, she resolved to gather her thoughts and swiftly proceeded to the bathroom, tidying up her disheveled appearance and dressing herself.
As Vivienne moved about the room, combing her hair and delicately spraying perfume, she sensed Tom's gaze upon her. Turning her head, she caught him propping himself up on an elbow, watching her with a familiar appreciation. In that moment, she could feel the weight of their shared history and the magnetic pull between them. His disheveled dark blonde hair and sleepy yet alluring face stirred a longing within her, but she quickly averted her gaze, determined not to succumb to his irresistible allure once more.
With each passing glance, Vivienne felt a mix of conflicting emotions, an internal battle between desire and self-preservation. Though Tom's presence still held a captivating charm, she steeled herself against his seductive aura, knowing the risks that lay in giving in to their shared passion once again.
As Tom got out of bed, Vivienne was taken aback by his nakedness, causing a brief moment of surprise to course through her. He leaned in, planting a soft kiss on her cheek, a tender gesture that stirred conflicting emotions inside her. With a warm smile, he assured her that he would quickly retrieve his clothes from his room and join her shortly for dinner.
Vivienne observed as Tom gracefully moved around the room, picking up his discarded clothes from the floor. Her gaze fixated on his strong physique, the play of muscles beneath his skin, and the air of confidence he exuded. A part of her yearned to pull him back into their shared desires, but she resisted the temptation, reminding herself of the complexities that lay beneath their passionate encounters.
Determined in her resolve, Vivienne composed herself, patiently waiting for Tom's return. She took a moment to calm her racing heart and gather her thoughts, preparing for the evening ahead. While she couldn't deny the magnetic pull of his presence, she promised herself to proceed with caution, fully aware of the delicate balance between attraction and self-preservation they had come to know too well.
----------
As they settled down at the table, Tom's gaze swept over Vivienne, a renewed sense of appreciation evident in his eyes. She appeared effortlessly elegant in her simple attire, a loose-fitting turtle neck concealing the love marks he had left on her skin, causing a mischievous smirk to play upon his lips. To him, she radiated beauty in her understated fashion.
Throughout the meal, Tom showered Vivienne with affection, his actions and words expressing a deep connection between them. They shared laughter, exchanged stolen glances, and the atmosphere brimmed with the promise of more intimate moments to come. Vivienne couldn't help but be captivated by Tom's attentiveness, cherishing the warmth he emanated.
As the evening neared its end, they retreated to their respective rooms, a mix of excitement and nervousness enveloping Vivienne. She knew that future encounters awaited them, keeping the flame of passion alive. The allure of their shared desires lingered, hinting at the continuation of their intimate journey.
However, despite their intimate encounter earlier, Vivienne found her determination renewed. She resolved not to succumb to Tom's charms so easily again, even though she had been enticed by the intimacy they had rekindled. She knew she had to distance herself from him, to put their passionate encounter behind her.
The following morning, as the sun streamed through the window, a knock on Vivienne's door startled her. Tom's voice called out, inviting her for breakfast. But Vivienne, resolute in her decision, remained silent. Confused by her lack of response, Tom ventured to the lodge's office, hoping to find answers.
To his surprise, the receptionist informed him that Vivienne had checked out half an hour earlier and had left for the airport. As Tom absorbed this unexpected turn of events, the receptionist handed him a letter. It was a message penned by Vivienne, outlining her reasons for leaving and bidding him farewell.
Dear Tom,
I'm sorry for leaving so suddenly, but I couldn't ignore the disturbance it caused to the peace I had finally found within myself. The love I still hold for you lingers, but I've become cautious of the recurring cycle we seem to find ourselves in. Your sudden return and plea for reconciliation have shattered the tranquility I fought hard to achieve during our time apart.
I must prioritize the serenity I have discovered within my own soul. Trust, which has been strained between us, needs time and genuine change to be rebuilt. I cannot risk losing the progress I've made by diving back into the same patterns that led to our previous struggles.
Please understand that this decision isn't a rejection of our love, but rather a necessary step to protect my newfound inner peace. I will reach out to you when I'm ready to address our unresolved matters. Until then, let's take this time apart to reflect and grow as individuals.
Sincerely,
Vivienne
Tom stood frozen in the doorway, holding the letter tightly in his shaking hand. He felt utterly helpless, as if all his power had been stripped away. The woman he loved, Vivienne, had vanished, and it pained him deeply. The trust they once shared had shattered, and he couldn't bear the thought of her running away, no longer believing in him.
His heart ached with a profound hurt. How could she leave him like this? In the past, whenever they had a fight, Vivienne always came back to him easily, as if their love could fix everything. But this time, it was different. Her sudden departure revealed the doubts and fragility of their relationship.
The pain of her absence pierced his soul. It reminded him of the consequences of his actions and the damage they had caused. He realized that his past behavior had eroded the trust they had built, leaving Vivienne with no choice but to escape.
Tom's mind raced with confusion and remorse. He longed for her presence, her comforting touch, and the sound of her laughter. Her absence left a gaping hole that seemed impossible to fill, and he regretted the choices that had led them to this painful separation.
In that moment, Tom made a solemn promise to himself. He would confront his flaws and strive to earn back Vivienne's trust. The reality of her departure hit him hard, compelling him to face the depth of his love for her. He understood that their journey was far from over, and he was willing to fight for their connection.
With a determined look in his eyes, Tom took a deep breath, clutching the letter close to his chest. He knew he had to find a way to bridge the gap between them, to show Vivienne that he could change and grow for their love.
Stepping out into the world, his face etched with uncertainty and anguish, Tom embarked on a journey back to London. It was a mission fueled by a deep desire to find Vivienne, to make things right and rebuild the love they had lost.
His determination grew stronger with each passing moment. He yearned to find Vivienne, to look into her eyes and convey the depth of his remorse. He wanted to make amends, to show her that he was capable of change and growth. Love had a way of testing their resilience, but he was ready to face the challenges head-on.
In the depths of his heart, Tom held onto the flickering hope that they could find their way back to each other. He was ready to face the challenges, to learn from his mistakes, and to fight for the love that had once defined their existence. A/N:  I wanted to take a moment to address the ending of the story and shed some light on the choices I made. I understand that some of you may be wondering why I wrote it in the way it unfolded. Oh! it was a struggle re-writing the ending several times, but allow me to provide some insights coming to this decision.
Throughout the narrative, I wanted to depict Tom's journey of self-discovery and growth. In Chapter 1, we are introduced to a flawed character, someone who exhibits traits of being a jerk. By presenting his transformation and the challenges he faces, I aimed to show that personal growth is possible even for those who have made mistakes.
Moreover, I deliberately chose not to portray an easy reconciliation between Tom and Vivienne. It is all too common in stories for characters to easily fall back into toxic relationships, particularly after moments of intimacy. I wanted to challenge this narrative and emphasize the importance of trust, self-reflection, and personal growth before attempting to rebuild a relationship.
It is crucial to address the complexities of relationships and the need for healthy boundaries. Rushing back into a relationship without addressing the underlying issues can perpetuate a cycle of toxicity. I hope this story serves as a reminder to readers that genuine change requires introspection and effort from all parties involved.
Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I appreciate your support and understanding. OH! Don’t worry there’s a short sequel (just in a different title, of course...)  Best Regards, MSILWRITES.

(3AM) ODD Women Series - 40 days Ascent (TWO)
A/N: I’ve had this in my draft notebook for a very long time, now I’m publishing it. I hope you enjoy.  If you want to read the first one; here it is: ASCENT (ONE)
40 Days Ascent
TWO
After two weeks of climbing, Sage and her group took a much-needed break. They found a spot to rest and gazed at the cloudy skies above Everest. The sky above the mountain was filled with swirling clouds, creating a mesmerizing sight. It felt peaceful and calm, contrasting with the busy world she had left behind.
As she gazed at the cloudy skies, her mind momentarily drifted from the mountain to thoughts of Henry. It struck her that in the past two weeks of climbing, she hadn't thought much about him. The challenges and intensity of conquering Everest had consumed her every thought and energy.
But now, during a brief break, her mind wandered back to Henry. She couldn't help but wonder what he was up to, who he might be with. It made her a little sad to imagine him moving on so quickly, finding happiness with someone else. After all, Henry had always been handsome and charming.
The idea that he might have found comfort in another person while she was here pushing herself up the mountain stung a little. In the quiet of the mountains, those thoughts seemed bigger, and she felt a touch of jealousy. She was relieved that the poor signal up here prevented her from checking social media and falling into a spiral of sadness.
It gave her a break from the digital world, allowing her to fully focus on the present moment. Without the constant distractions and comparisons of social media, she could concentrate on her personal journey and the challenges ahead.
-----
As their guide announced their proximity to Camp 3, Sage braced herself for the next phase of the climb. She knew it wouldn't be easy. The terrain would be steeper, icier, and more challenging than before.
Taking a deep breath, Sage mentally prepared herself for the upcoming ascent. They would have to navigate sharp rocks and narrow ledges, testing their balance and courage. The biting cold made each step more difficult, but she remained determined.
With each stride, Sage could feel her muscles working hard. The relentless wind threatened to throw her off balance, but she focused on her breathing and heartbeat, finding comfort in their rhythm.
Occasionally, she stole glances at the breathtaking scenery around her. The mountains stretched out in all their grandeur, reminding her of the magnitude of the task at hand. Every small accomplishment brought her closer to her goal.
Finally reaching Camp 3, Sage’s body felt fatigued but her spirit remained unyielding. Rest was necessary to regain her strength for the next leg of the climb. Amidst the towering peaks, she took a moment to appreciate the beauty of her surroundings, a reminder of the challenges and rewards of her journey.
Though she knew the climb was far from over, settling into Camp 3 surrounded by fellow climbers brought her a renewed sense of purpose. She drew strength from the mountains and the support of her teammates, ready to face whatever came next.
Exhausted from the arduous climb, Sage settled into the tent, her body craving rest. She was too fatigued to bother with the discomfort of lying down, so she found herself drifting into sleep while sitting.
In the peaceful silence of the tent, her mind gradually succumbed to the realm of dreams. As her eyes closed, vivid images and sensations began to unfold. She found herself transported to a world beyond the icy slopes and jagged peaks of Everest.
Drifting deeper into her dreams, the boundaries of reality faded away, and a familiar figure emerged within the ethereal realm. In this dream world, she found herself lying in a cozy bed, wrapped in the comforting embrace of Henry. Their bodies intertwined, their whispers of affection filling the air, creating an intimate sanctuary just for the two of them.
In that moment, time seemed to stand still. Henry's fingertips traced the contours of her cheek, igniting a trail of electric sensations that surged through her entire being. His touch was gentle yet filled with desire, as if he couldn't get enough of her.
The room was filled with an intoxicating blend of passion and vulnerability. Every word he spoke was laced with affection and longing. "I love you," he whispered, his voice sending waves of pleasure cascading through her. Their connection, both physical and emotional, grew stronger with each passing second, as they reveled in the intimate moment they shared together.
But suddenly, she was abruptly pulled from the dream, as if a gust of wind had torn through the scene. The sheets around her stirred and fluttered, as if they had a life of their own, swirling and twirling in the air. The dream dissolved, leaving her disoriented and yearning for the fleeting warmth she had experienced.
In that fleeting moment between the dream and waking up, Sage was overcome by a bittersweet rush of emotions. The memory of Henry's touch lingered, while the reality of her solitary tent surrounded her. It was a stark reminder that even the most vivid dreams could slip away, leaving behind an ache and a desire to hold onto those precious moments for just a little bit longer.
As Sage emerged from her tent, she was greeted by a breathtaking sight. The vast expanse of the night sky stretched out before her, a tapestry of darkness adorned with a multitude of sparkling stars. The air at Camp 3 on Everest was crisp and pure, allowing for a remarkable clarity in the heavens above.
Sage let out a sigh, her mind drifting to Henry and the ache in her heart. The peacefulness of her surroundings brought her comfort, a respite from the tumultuous thoughts swirling within. As she reflected on her relationship with Henry, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the tranquility of this place.
She remembered the moments of tenderness and the way Henry had chosen her, despite her own doubts. Sage saw herself as an ordinary woman, always striving to enhance her appearance with clothes and makeup, hoping to feel beautiful in his eyes.
But deep down, she battled with insecurities, never fully embracing the love and attention she received. In this moment, amidst the quiet mountains, those doubts seemed to loom larger. Yet, there was a glimmer of gratitude shining through. Despite her reservations, she had experienced a profound connection and a love that had touched her soul.
As Sage gazed at the majestic landscape, she recognized that true beauty went beyond the external. It was a reminder that she, too, was deserving of love and happiness, irrespective of her perceived imperfections. And in the silence of the mountains, she found solace, allowing herself to believe in her own worth.
-----  With a heavy breath, Sage continues her arduous ascent towards the summit of Everest. The higher she climbs, the thinner the air becomes, making it increasingly challenging to breathe. Sensing the need for additional support, she reaches into her backpack and pulls out the oxygen mask, securing it tightly to her face. As she inhales the crisp, purified air, a renewed sense of energy courses through her veins, revitalizing her weary body and allowing her to push forward with greater determination.
As Sage continues her climb towards the summit, exhaustion starts to take its toll on her body. Her legs grow tired, and she begins to feel the strain. Suddenly, her foot slips on the icy surface, causing her heart to skip a beat. Reacting quickly, she plants the sharp pick of her ice axe into the frozen ground, saving herself from a dangerous fall.
With a firm grip on her pickaxe, Sage dangles in the air, her eyes fixed on the drop below. The height of the cliff sends a shiver down her spine, and she can't help but think about how close she came to a disastrous fall without her trusty tool. As her mind wanders, memories of her life in London flood back, inevitably bringing Henry to the forefront of her thoughts. Why does he have to be the one who occupies her mind in this moment of danger? She questions whether he would even give her a second thought if she lost her grip, picturing him in the arms of another woman. The realization stings, but before she can dwell on it, her companions rush to her side, pulling her away from the edge and returning her to safety.
The guide approached Sage, assessing her condition and inquiring if she felt capable of continuing or if she needed a break. Sage expressed her desire for a quick pause, feeling the need to recharge with some snacks and refreshments. The rest of the group agreed, understanding the importance of maintaining their strength and stamina for the final stretch. They found a suitable spot, taking a moment to catch their breath, replenish their energy levels, and perhaps share some lighthearted conversations to uplift their spirits. It was a brief respite, but a valuable one, allowing them to regroup and gather their determination before continuing their arduous journey towards the summit.
Energized by their brief break, the climbers pressed on, their movements purposeful and steady. The anticipation of witnessing the sunrise from the summit propelled them forward. With each step, the air grew crisper, and the surroundings became bathed in the soft glow of the approaching dawn. The sky transformed into a breathtaking tapestry of colors, as if the heavens themselves were putting on a magnificent show. Shades of orange, pink, and gold painted the horizon, casting an ethereal light over the majestic landscape. It was a sight that seemed almost surreal, a reward for their unwavering determination and resilience. As they ascended, the view became more awe-inspiring, a testament to the beauty and grandeur of nature. With the summit within reach, their hearts filled with a sense of wonder and anticipation for what awaited them at the top.
Sage's determined steps propelled her relentlessly towards the summit, oblivious to the passage of time. And then, at last, she reached the pinnacle. A rush of feelings overwhelmed her, and tears started streaming down her face. It was the result of all the hard work and training she had put in for weeks or maybe even months. The moment hit her hard, and she felt a deep connection to the stunning beauty that surrounded her. As Sage looked out from the summit, she couldn't help but be amazed. The sunrise painted the snowy peaks with a golden glow, making everything shine. The peacefulness of the scene mixed with the incredible achievement made Sage feel both humble and incredibly happy. In the midst of this incredible moment, Sage wanted to capture it forever. She wanted to take a picture that would remind her of this beautiful view and the triumphant feeling she had at the top.
She reached for her camera, eager to immortalize the sight that had moved her so deeply. But before she could click the shutter, one of the guides, offered to help. He understood the significance of this achievement and wanted to make sure Sage had the perfect photo to remember it by.
Gratefully, Sage handed her camera to him, who skillfully framed the shot, capturing her radiant smile and the awe-inspiring landscape in the background. He knew just the right angle and lighting to do justice to the moment. With a click of the camera, the image was preserved, a tangible reminder of Sage's triumphant journey.
As they celebrated their accomplishment as a group, Sage felt immense gratitude for the support and camaraderie of her companions. They congratulated her, sharing in her joy and pride. The summit photo became a cherished memento of their shared triumph, a testament to the indomitable spirit that had carried them all to the top of the world.
----------
As the group began their descent from the summit, Sage's initial excitement was tinged with a mix of fear and uncertainty. Glissading down the steep slopes brought both thrills and nerves. Would she be able to control her speed? What if something went wrong? Taking a deep breath, Sage decided to go for it. She sat on her pack and started sliding, feeling an immediate rush of adrenaline. The world around her became a blur as she picked up speed. She focused intently, trying to navigate the twists and turns, all while maintaining control. With each passing moment, Sage's confidence grew. She trusted her instincts and made quick decisions to avoid any obstacles in her path. The wind whipped against her face, adding to the exhilaration of the ride. Despite her initial fears, Sage found herself embracing the challenge. The rush of adrenaline fueled her determination. She pushed through the fear, realizing that she was capable of more than she had imagined. Finally, the glissade came to an end, and Sage couldn't help but smile with a sense of accomplishment and relief. The journey down had taken them around an hour, and she was grateful to have experienced such an exhilarating descent.
----------
After leaving the base camp, Sage quickly made her way back to Lhasa. The journey was filled with stunning views of snow-capped mountains and beautiful Tibetan villages. The winding roads offered glimpses of the vast Tibetan plateau and its serene landscapes.
As Sage traveled along the Friendship Highway, she couldn't help but be captivated by the ever-changing scenery. The majestic mountains, colorful prayer flags, and Tibetan nomads with their grazing herds created a sense of awe and wonder.
Once she arrived in Lhasa, Sage headed straight back to the luxurious St. Regis hotel, where she had left her belongings before embarking on the challenging climb. She was relieved to find that her luggage was safely stored, ready to be retrieved.
With a sense of comfort and familiarity, Sage settled back into the elegant surroundings of the hotel. The impeccable service and luxurious amenities provided a much-needed respite after her arduous journey. She unpacked her belongings and found solace in the familiar items that carried memories of her expedition.
As Sage looked out from her hotel room window, she marveled at the panoramic views of Lhasa's ancient streets and historic landmarks.
As she settled into her hotel room, she couldn't contain her excitement to relive the breathtaking moments she had captured on her journey. With her laptop in hand, she carefully retrieved her precious footage and began curating the best photographs and videos from her GoPro.
Sage settled into her hotel room at the St. Regis, eager to relive the breathtaking moments she had captured on her journey. With her laptop in hand, she sorted through her footage, selecting the best photos and videos to share.
Memories flooded back as she edited and trimmed the footage, choosing the most awe-inspiring moments. The thrill of accomplishment and the beauty of the mountains were preserved in these digital memories.
As she began uploading, Sage realized it would take longer than expected. Feeling a mix of exhaustion and anticipation, she decided to rest while her laptop continued the process.
She nestled into the plush comfort of her hotel bed, feeling the fatigue of the climb. Her mind was filled with contentment and excitement. Wrapped in soft sheets, she drifted off into a peaceful slumber, dreaming of the majestic peaks and endless possibilities.
----------
Groggy from her slumber, Sage reached for her phone and was immediately startled by the overwhelming number of missed calls she had from Henry. Over 500 missed calls, all from him. The weight of the situation sank in as she wondered what could have happened in her absence to trigger such a desperate flurry of attempts to reach her.
Her heart pounding, she quickly opened the message notifications, bracing herself for the barrage of emotions that awaited her. As she read through Henry's messages, a rollercoaster of emotions washed over her. Concern, anger, apology, and even resentment were all present in his words. Each message revealed a different facet of his feelings, shifting from worry to frustration, and eventually pleading. The sound of his voice, filled with a mix of anger and desperation, echoed in her ears as she listened to the voicemails one by one.
Sage absorbed the weight of the situation, she realized something unexpected. Henry hadn't crossed her mind since she left Camp 3 and arrived back in Lhasa. The mountain had consumed her thoughts and emotions, leaving little space for anything else. It was as if her focus on the climb had pushed Henry to the periphery of her consciousness.
She let out a tired sigh and rubbed her eyes, deciding against calling him back. She didn't want her newfound peace to be disturbed by the emotional turmoil that awaited her on the other end of the line. Resolute in her choice, Sage set her phone aside, determined to focus on her own well-being.
Still groggy and barely awake, Sage let out a yawn and absentmindedly reached for her phone, answering it without fully realizing who was on the other end. As she scratched her stomach, she mumbled a sleepy "Hello?"
To her surprise, a familiar voice crackled through the line, instantly jolting her awake. It was Henry, calling once again. The grogginess still clouding her mind, Sage listened as Henry poured out his worry and concern, expressing how scared he had been after seeing the video she had uploaded.
Henry explained that he had come across a video she had uploaded on social media. It was a clip from her GoPro that captured the terrifying moment when she slipped and almost fell off a cliff. The sight had sent him into a panic, imagining the worst possible outcome. He had been worried sick about her safety.
Sage's drowsiness began to dissipate, replaced by a mix of confusion and concern. She vaguely recalled the clip from her GoPro, the one capturing her near-fall from the cliff. She had uploaded it without thinking much about the impact it could have on others, especially Henry.
An impish grin spread across Sage's face as a mischievous idea formed in her mind. She decided to have a little fun at Henry's expense, unable to resist the temptation. With a hint of mischief in her voice, she replied, "Oh, Henry, I'm so glad you called. Guess what? I'm actually still hanging on that cliff. The Wi-Fi signal here is surprisingly strong, so I thought I'd upload the videos while I wait for help."
There was a brief moment of silence on the other end of the line, and then Henry's voice filled with a mix of disbelief and concern. "Wait, what? Are you serious? Sage, that's not funny!"
Unable to contain her laughter, Sage couldn't resist taking the prank a step further. She exclaimed, "Weee!!" as if she were playfully jumping off the cliff. Then, with a mischievous giggle, she abruptly ended the call, leaving Henry bewildered and confused on the other end.
As she lay back on the bed, a sense of satisfaction washed over Sage. She knew she had successfully messed with Henry, even if just for a moment. The thought of his puzzled expression brought a mischievous smile to her face.
Feeling a wave of contentment, Sage closed her eyes and allowed herself to drift off to sleep.
------
Still in a daze from her deep slumber, Sage's eyes fluttered open to the sight of the late afternoon sunlight filtering through the curtains. A growl from her stomach reminded her of her hunger, and she decided to indulge in some laziness and order room service for lunch.
As she lounged on the comfortable chair by the study table, the hotel staff arrived with a tray of delicious food. Sage greeted them with a grateful smile and thanked them for their service, making sure to leave a generous tip to show her appreciation. With her hunger piqued and the aroma of the freshly prepared meal filling the room, she couldn't wait to dig in.
Just as she was about to take her first bite, her phone rang, breaking the silence of the room. Absentmindedly, she picked it up, her mind still foggy from sleep and hunger.
As Sage held the phone to her ear, she recognized Henry's voice immediately. It was filled with a mix of concern and frustration, a familiar tone that she had grown accustomed to over the years. "What were you thinking, Sage?" Henry exclaimed, his voice tinged with worry. "I just saw the video from your GoPro. Glissading down those steep slopes? It's dangerous! You could have seriously hurt yourself!"
Sage couldn't contain her mischievous laughter as she responded to Henry's concern. "Oh, Henry, you won't believe it! I'm still glissading down the mountain as we speak. The mountain is just too tall, and I couldn't resist the thrill of it all. I only answered the call because the Wi-Fi signal is surprisingly strong during glissades!"
There was a momentary silence on the other end, followed by Henry's bewildered voice. "Wait, are you serious? You're still sliding down the mountain? Sage, that's not possible!"
“The slope is just too steep! Call me again when I finally reach base camp, okay?"
Sage couldn't resist the opportunity to mess with him a little longer. With a mischievous giggle, she cut the call abruptly, leaving Henry bewildered on the other end.
Chuckling to herself, Sage placed her phone aside and continued enjoying her room service lunch. The thought of Henry's reaction made her giggle even more, imagining his puzzled expression as he tried to make sense of her ongoing glissading adventure.
----------
After returning from Lhasa, Sage arrives back at Shanghai, and gathered with her friends.  They gathered around the table, enjoying the skewers and beer at the outdoor seating area. The conversation shifted to Sage's recent adventure on Everest, and her friends expressed their relief that she had made it back unharmed. They discussed the challenges she faced, but there was an underlying sense of caution and concern in their voices. While acknowledging her accomplishment, there was an unspoken understanding of the risks involved in such a daring feat. The atmosphere was a mix of relief, curiosity, and perhaps a hint of apprehension as they listened to Sage recount her journey.
As they indulged in their conversation, one of Sage's friends noticed the vibrating phone atop the table. The group's collective gaze shifted towards the caller ID, revealing that it was Henry trying to reach her once again. They exchanged knowing glances and one of them spoke up, "You don't have to answer that and ruin your evening, Sage. Let's just enjoy our time together."
With a grateful smile, Sage nodded in agreement, appreciating the understanding and support of her friends. They returned their attention to the lively atmosphere around them, savoring the moment and leaving the unanswered call to be a silent reminder of the complexities that lie beneath the surface.
-----
As Sage walked back to her hotel, feeling a bit bloated from the beers she had consumed earlier, she spotted a 24-hour convenience store nearby. Craving a fizzy drink to help soothe her stomach, she decided to step inside and find a seat where she could gather her thoughts.
Taking a seat at one of the small tables inside the convenience store, Sage reached for her phone as it buzzed once again. With a fizzy drink in hand, she answered the call, hoping to clear her mind before heading up to her room.
She listened silently as Henry's voice filled her ears, berating her for not answering his calls and accusing her of seeking attention. She could feel the frustration and worry in his words, but something within her refused to engage in an argument.
Henry's voice grew sharper as he continued his tirade. "This isn't about safety anymore, Sage. It's about your constant need for attention and thrill-seeking. You've got everyone's attention now, so can you please come back home and stop putting yourself in these dangerous situations?"
Chuckling softly, she replied, "Attention seeking, huh? Well, if I wanted your undivided attention, Henry, I could think of more dramatic ways to get it. Maybe I'll set myself on fire next time we meet."
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line, and Sage could almost hear Henry processing her response. In that moment, she realized her teasing remark might have been more provocative than intended.
"Hmm, maybe that wasn't the best example," she quickly added, trying to lighten the mood, and the alcohol playing a role.
With a mischievous glint in her eye, Sage playfully retorted, "Oh, Henry, you're like a mosquito buzzing around my adventures. But guess what? I've got my bug repellent called 'We're-No-Longer-Together' spray. Works like a charm! So, go ahead and bug off!"
She pretended to spray an imaginary can, making exaggerated gestures and sound effects. "Pssssshhh! Take that, Henry! Now you're officially repelled from interfering in my life!" The alcohol fueling her funny bone. “Don’t you have new women to pester now?”
Henry let out a heavy sigh. "Look, Sage, I know we're no longer together, but that doesn't mean I’ve stopped about you”
Sage raised an eyebrow, a hint of skepticism in her voice. "Why care? Tell me, Henry?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, and then Henry's voice softened. "I'm just worried, okay? I know I hurt you, and I can't help but feel responsible for your well-being."
A wry smile played on Sage's lips as she interrupted him. "You flatter yourself, Henry. While it's true that you've caused me pain, this trip to Everest was a dream of mine long before our relationship even started. The world doesn't revolve around you anymore, or anyone else for that matter."
Henry's plea echoed through the phone, "Then can you just come home now, please? Or do I have to come and get you myself?"
Henry's plea hung in the air, and Sage couldn't resist the opportunity to deliver a witty retort. She grinned mischievously, playing along with his suggestion. She tilted her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes, and fired back with a sly grin, "  "Oh, Henry, I'd love to see you scale Everest in a suit and tie. Just imagine the headlines: ' Man Climbs Everest to Drag Back Ex!' It would be quite the spectacle. I'll be waiting at the top of Mount Everest, sipping a margarita and enjoying the view. Just make sure to pack your climbing gear and a sense of humor! But here's the catch: you'll have to do it blindfolded and hopping on one leg. It's the only way to truly appreciate the thrill! "
As she spoke, Sage couldn't help but envision Henry's bewildered face and the sheer absurdity of the image. The thought of him attempting such a ludicrous feat sent her into a fit of laughter echoing through the convenience store. She quickly regained her composure and added, "But don't worry, Henry. If you survive the blindfolded hopping, I'll reward you with a mountain of ice cream. Deal?"
As her laughter subsided, Sage composed herself and continued, "But here's the catch, Henry. If you manage to conquer Everest blindfolded and hopping, I'll have an even bigger challenge for you. You'll have to climb back down while juggling flaming torches and reciting Shakespearean sonnets. It's the only way to truly impress me!"
"Damnit Sage, can you please take this seriously!" Henry's exasperated voice filled the air. He paused for a moment, searching for the right words. "Wait, are you drunk? You've been spewing nonsense all this time, and I can't tell if you're joking or not."
Sage burst into laughter, unable to contain her amusement at Henry's exasperation. "Drunk? Oh, Henry, if I were drunk, you'd know it! I'd be climbing Everest wearing a traffic cone on my head, or perhaps wearing a sombrero, and serenade the moon with a ukulele”
Henry sighed, his tone filled with concern. "Seriously, Sage, how much have you had to drink?"
Sage turned silent, her mind filled with a mix of emotions. She couldn't help but question Henry's sudden concern. After all, he was the one who ended their relationship, casting her aside without a second thought. Why should she still feel obligated to answer to him?
As the weight of her thoughts settled, Sage let out a sigh. She realized that it was time to assert herself and stand her ground. "Henry," she began, her voice steady but tinged with a hint of defiance, "it's not your concern anymore. You made that clear when you walked away...”
Henry's voice wavered on the other end of the line, filled with a mix of regret and vulnerability. "I told you I still care for you! I... I don't know, your absence has made me realize how important you are to me. That day, when I caught you leaving for the airport, I wanted to fix things between us."
Sage took a deep breath, mustering her strength to speak her truth. "Henry, you never truly loved or appreciated me for who I am, or accepted me fully. I can't simply forget the way you treated me and the emotional turmoil you put me through."
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line as Sage's words hung in the air. Henry's voice wavered as he responded, "Sage, I... I never realized the impact of my actions. I never meant to hurt you."
Sage let out a bittersweet chuckle. “Oh, Henry, your ability to tune out the obvious is truly remarkable. Did you have a secret portal to a parallel universe while we were together?“
"Look, Sage, can you just come home, and let's talk about it, please?" Henry pleaded, his voice filled with desperation and a glimmer of hope.
"I think... there's nothing left to talk about," Sage replied, her voice tinged with a hint of resignation. She knew Henry all too well—how quickly he could switch gears, from showing affection one moment to seeking attention from other women the next, leaving her feeling insecure. It was a cycle she couldn't bear to repeat.
With a newfound determination, Sage made a swift decision. She calmly put down the phone, imagining Henry's bewildered expression on the other end. Without hesitation, she blocked his number, removed him from all social media.
And as she contemplated whether the alcohol had indeed played a role in this absurd conversation, she couldn't help but think, "Maybe it's time to switch to herbal tea."
A/N:  I will be doing some soft editing since there might be a few grammatical errors. I hope you all enjoyed the story, even though it began with a somber and heavy tone. I tried to inject some humor towards the end to lighten the mood.

(3AM) ODD Women Series - 40 days Ascent (ONE)
A/N: This story is inspired by the film 'Edie' and my uncle who has recently ascended the Mount Everest (wooo!). I hope you'll like this one.
Also, it takes around at least 40 days or more to ascend Mount Everest (includes, stops, and short breaks). Cheers to those who got there!.
SYNOPSIS: Sage is a woman, who has given almost everything up for the man she loves, only to be dumped, and discarded at the end. Upon receiving a call to remind her of the climbing expedition to Mount Everest that she had booked a year ago and trained for the past few months, she sets off to Tibet, finally doing something for herself and starts recovering parts of her that were lost.
EDIT: PART 2 IS HERE - ASCENT (TWO)
40 Days Ascent
"Wait... what?" Sage's mouth hung agape, almost dropping her utensils on the table, upon hearing what her beau said.
"I think we should see other people..." Henry repeats, as he stared directly at her.
"Wha... why?? Did I do anything wrong? Have I not done enough? what else do you want Henry?!! I've given you all my Time and affection..." Was her tense response. His cold hard glare tried to deter her from speaking up, but she was done being treated like this.
"I feel like this is not going to work anymore... I'm sorry" he replied. His apology didn't sound like one. "You're just not the woman for me..." he added. "But I would like us to remain friends..."
Sage sat back and stared at him, and then laughed at the sudden and painful realization. How could she not have seen it from the start?! Right from the beginning of their relationship, it was clear who was in control. He had taken advantage of her vulnerability and he used that to constantly groom her to fit his ideal.
Henry looked confused, as to why she was laughing. "Sage?"
However, before he could continue, the tables were quickly overturned.
Sage gave Henry a look, her eyebrows raised and a smirk playing on her lips. "Wow, Henry, you really outdid yourself with that apology. I could practically taste the sincerity in the air." She paused, her words tinged with sarcasm, despite hurting inside. She refused to give him the satisfaction of seeing her tears.
"So, I guess I'm just not the right girl for you, huh? It's so devastating! Like, how can I resist being friends with someone who just broke my heart? Such an amazing offer!" Her voice dripped with sarcasm, emphasizing the absurdity of his request.
Without another word, Sage took a deep breath, composed herself, and turned to walk away. Henry called after her, his voice filled with confusion and regret, but she didn't look back. She had made up her mind.
-----
Sage returned home to her flat, feeling a mixture of emotions. She couldn't hold back the tears any longer and let herself cry, releasing the pain that had been building up inside. As she wiped away her tears, her phone pinged, signaling a new email. She hesitantly opened it and her eyes widened with surprise.
There it was, the email confirming her permit to climb Mount Everest—the one she had been waiting for so long. Her heart raced with excitement and determination. It made her remember that she had applied for this adventure way before Henry entered her life. Everest had always been her dream, hidden beneath the weight of their relationship.
But as she read the email, doubts, and thoughts of Henry came rushing back, trying to bring her down. Could she handle such a big challenge mentally? Would she be able to conquer the mountain while dealing with the memories of their failed love? Insecurities filled her mind, making her excitement fade away.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was a call from a friend who lived in Shanghai, China. They wanted to meet up before she embarked on her climb in Tibet. Sage saw it as a wonderful opportunity to gather strength and support from a trusted friend.
Her friend, Della, noticed the tremor in Sage's voice and sensed the hidden sorrow beneath her words. "Are you okay, Sage? It sounds like you've been crying," Della asked with concern.
Trying to hide her emotions, Sage quickly replied, "Oh, it's nothing, Della. Just going through a tough time, but don't worry about it. We can catch up when I come to Shanghai in a few weeks."
Della wasn't entirely convinced, but she respected Sage's desire to keep things private. She assured Sage that she would be there for her whenever she needed a friend.
-----
A few days later, Sage mindlessly scrolled through social media, and her heart sank as she stumbled upon pictures of Henry. There he was, looking all handsome and happy, surrounded by other girls, as if he had completely moved on. The sight was like a punch to the gut, a painful reminder of how easily he had left her behind.
Overwhelmed by emotions, Sage couldn't hold back the tears that welled up in her eyes. Hurt and betrayed, she cried, her sobs echoing through her empty apartment. The weight of her broken heart felt unbearable, leaving her eyes swollen and her spirit drained.
Exhausted from the outpouring of emotions, Sage eventually succumbed to sleep. As she drifted off, tears still glistening on her cheeks, she made a mental note to limit her time on social media. She realized that constantly checking for updates only brought more pain, a masochistic cycle she needed to break.
With her Everest expedition drawing closer, she knew she had to channel her energy into preparing for the journey ahead. The mountain called to her, its towering presence offering solace and a temporary escape from the pain that still lingered in her heart.
The thought of being in the serene and quiet embrace of the mountain, far away from the distractions of social media and the constant reminders of Henry, gave her a glimmer of hope. She saw it as a chance to escape the cycle of tears and heartache, even if just for a while.
-----
A few days before her departure for Shanghai, Sage's phone rang late at night. Startled, she glanced at the screen to see the name "Henry" flashing. Curiosity mingled with caution as she hesitated before answering the call.
"Hey... Sage," slurred Henry's voice on the other end. It was evident that he had been drinking. Sage braced herself, knowing that this call could only bring trouble.
"I've been thinking about you," Henry mumbled, his words coated with a mixture of desire and desperation. "We had something special, you know? Maybe we can have one last night together."
Sage's heart wavered for a moment, tempted by the familiarity of their past intimacy. But deep down, she knew that giving in to his request would only lead to more pain and confusion. Taking a deep breath, she mustered the strength to respond firmly.
"I'm sorry... I can't. I need to wake up early tomorrow," Sage replied, her voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside her. "I have important things to take care of."
"But it's the weekend," Henry protested, his voice laced with seduction.
"S-sorry, Henry. I just can't," she stammered, her resolve firm. With a determined click, she ended the call and powered off her phone.
Sage knew that indulging in one last night with Henry would only prolong her healing process. She needed to stay focused on her journey ahead. As the phone lay silent, she felt a mix of relief and empowerment. She had chosen herself over the lure of the past, and she knew it was the right decision.
With her phone turned off, she closed her eyes, finding solace in the quiet of the night.
----------
As Sage stood on the driveway, her luggage neatly arranged beside her, she hailed an Uber to take her to the airport. Anticipation coursed through her veins, causing her heart to beat faster as she anxiously awaited the arrival of the car. But as the Uber approached, another vehicle pulled up beside her—a car that she knew all too well. It was Henry's car.
With a mixture of shock and confusion, Henry stepped out of his car, his gaze fixed on Sage and her bags. The realization slowly dawned on him that something significant was unfolding before his eyes.
"Sage? What's happening? Why haven't you been responding to my messages?" Henry's voice revealed a blend of concern and frustration. "Where the hell are you going?!"
Determined and resolute, Sage met his gaze with unwavering strength. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she gathered her thoughts before responding firmly, her voice laced with determination. "Henry... it's no longer your concern."
Henry's eyes widened further, struggling to process her words and the resolve emanating from her. "But... but we need to talk, Sage. There are unresolved matters between us."
Sage let out a weary sigh, feeling the weight of their unfinished conversations. However, her Uber driver arrived just in time, lending a helping hand to load her luggage into the trunk. Despite Henry's attempt to hold onto her arm, the concerned Uber driver intervened.
"I believe she doesn't wish to engage in conversation right now. It's best to let her go," the driver said, their voice filled with empathy and concern.
Sage expressed her gratitude to the driver, acknowledging their understanding of the situation, before swiftly entering the waiting car. Ignoring Henry's pleas, she closed the door, shutting him out from her journey. With a nod to the driver, signaling her readiness to depart, the Uber began to pull away.
From the confines of the car, Sage watched Henry fade into the distance through the window, his bewildered expression fading into the distance.
----------
After a long and tiring 12-hour journey, Sage finally arrived in Shanghai. Exhausted but filled with anticipation, she made her way to the hotel room she had booked. The warm water of the shower washed away the weariness from her body, and the minty freshness of toothpaste brought a renewed sense of vitality.
Dressed in comfortable pajamas, she sank into the softness of the bed, feeling the weight of the day slowly fade away. The room enveloped her in a peaceful embrace, offering a moment of respite before the grand adventure that awaited her in Tibet.
As she closed her eyes, a serene smile played on her lips. In just two days, she would embark on her journey to the mountains, where she hoped to find solace and strength. But for now, she relished in the tranquility of the hotel room, cherishing this time of calm and preparation before the challenge ahead.
As the morning sun filtered through the window, Sage reluctantly woke from her slumber, dreading the reality that awaited her. With a heavy heart, she reached for her phone and absentmindedly scrolled through her social media feed. What she saw hit her like a wave of sorrow.
There, amidst the stories and posts, were glimpses of Henry's seemingly carefree life without her. Pictures of him surrounded by friends, laughter, and an endless stream of girls. They appeared to be living in a world where their shared memories had faded into insignificance.
Tears welled up in Sage's eyes as she gazed at those images, feeling the ache in her chest grow. It pained her to witness how effortlessly he moved on, as if their time together meant nothing. Each photo seemed to silently taunt her, whispering, "If you don't want to talk, fine, it's your loss."
The weight of those visuals became too much to bear, and Sage set her phone aside, allowing her tears to flow freely. It was a necessary release, a moment to acknowledge the pain and grant herself permission to heal. Deep down, she understood that dwelling on the images that showcased a life without her would only hinder her own growth.
Taking a deep breath, Sage made a conscious decision to let go of those haunting images. She wiped away her tears, determined to shift her focus back to the forthcoming adventure that awaited her.
------
In the evening, Sage reunited with her friends at a cozy skewer joint, where laughter and the aroma of delicious food filled the air. As they sat around the table, skewers in hand and glasses of beer before them, the conversation shifted towards Sage's upcoming journey. Her friends listened intently, eager to hear about her adventure to the mountains.
Curiosity sparked in their eyes as they noticed the subtle signs of Sage's emotional struggle. Her puffy eyes couldn't escape their notice. Concerned, they gently probed, asking about her well-being. With each sip of beer, Sage found herself opening up, confessing the pain and hurt caused by Henry's actions.
Her friends, true to their nature, responded with warmth and understanding. They shared anecdotes and wisdom from the old philosophers, injecting humor and wit into the conversation. Slowly but surely, Sage's laughter began to replace the heaviness that had burdened her heart.
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step... and a whole lot of snacks. Seriously, climbing Everest is like a marathon for your taste buds. So, pack those trail mix packets, energy bars, and maybe even a secret stash of chocolate. Remember, conquering the world's tallest mountain is impressive, but conquering it with a bag full of snacks? Now that's legendary!" one of them said.
"In climbing Everest, remember: Fall down seven times, stand up eight... and then take a selfie to prove you survived the fall and still look fabulous!". another said.
Amidst the laughter, one of Sage's friends jokingly scolded the person who shared the witty twist. "Hey, hey! Let's not tempt fate here! Falling down on Everest is like trying to dance with a Yeti. We want Sage to conquer the mountain, not become its personal acrobat!" The group erupted in laughter, realizing the importance of keeping the journey safe while still enjoying the humor.
Amidst the camaraderie, they captured moments of their reunion with photographs that exuded a genuine sense of friendship and support. The pictures showcased their shared enjoyment of delicious food, clinking glasses in toasts, and a joyful group picture that radiated positivity.
----------
As Henry scrolled through his social media feed, he stumbled upon a series of pictures that caught his attention. It was Sage, surrounded by friends, indulging in a delicious barbecue feast and sharing laughter. They explored the ancient structures of the city, their smiles genuine and carefree.
Something tugged at Henry's heart as he witnessed Sage's joyful moments frozen in those images. It wasn't about showing off or seeking attention; it was simply Sage embracing life and finding happiness in the simplest of moments.
And then, a realization hit him like a bolt of lightning. He now knew she had gone to Shanghai. The pieces started falling into place. The unanswered messages, her sudden departure—all made sense now.
A mix of emotions surged within Henry as he looked at those pictures. He felt a pang of regret for not realizing sooner, for not being there when she needed him. Yet, at the same time, a glimmer of hope flickered in his heart.
Seeing Sage genuinely enjoying herself without him made him question what he had let slip away. Regret mingled with a glimmer of hope, stirring emotions he had tried to bury.
For a brief moment, he allowed himself to imagine what it would be like to be a part of that scene, laughing and creating memories alongside Sage. And at that moment, he felt a pang of regret for the choices he had made and the connection he had let go.
----------
"40 days huh..." Della says, embracing Sage tightly before she enters the control station and begins her climb towards the train boarding area.
"Yes..." Sage responds, her voice tinged with nervousness. She takes a deep breath, preparing herself mentally for the train journey from Shanghai to Tibet.
"Take care of yourself, and come back, come back well!" Della says, her own anxiety evident in her voice. The gravity of the Everest expedition was not lost on either of them.
Sage nods, her determination shining through. "I will, Della. I'll give it my all and come back stronger than ever."
As Sage bids farewell to her friends, they each offer words of encouragement and heartfelt goodbyes. They share a mix of excitement and concern for her daring adventure. One of their friends was capturing the moment for his social media story, bidding Sage good luck on his posts.
Days later, as fate would have it, Henry stumbles upon the story on his own social media feed.
He watches intently as Sage enters the control station, her determined figure gradually disappearing from sight as she makes her way toward the train. A surge of concern washes over Henry, realizing the enormity of the Everest expedition and the risks involved.
Without hesitation, he springs into action, fumbling for his phone and dialing Sage's number. The phone rings, and each passing second feels like an eternity as his mind races with all the worst-case scenarios.
"Come on, pick up," Henry mutters under his breath, his heart pounding in his chest. He envisions avalanches, treacherous slopes, and unpredictable weather, each fear fueling his urgency to reach her.
But as the call goes unanswered, a sense of helplessness sets in, and the unpredictable nature of Everest gnaws at his thoughts.
----------
Sage stirred from her nap, feeling refreshed after the 5-hour journey on the comfortable first-class seat of the Bullet train that her friends had booked for her. As she arrived in Beijing, she wasted no time and made her way to the airport hotel. Exhaustion washed over her, and all she desired was a good night's sleep.
Ignoring Henry's incessant calls, Sage disconnected from the outside world and surrendered herself to the blissful embrace of slumber. The weariness from her travels had caught up with her, and she knew she needed to recharge for the adventures that awaited her in Tibet.
Wrapped in the solitude of her hotel room, she drifted off into a deep sleep, letting go of the worries and distractions that had consumed her in recent days. Tomorrow would bring a new chapter, and Sage was determined to face it with renewed strength and determination.
In the morning, still feeling groggy and half-asleep, Sage made her way to the airport lounge to have breakfast before her flight to Tibet. Absentmindedly, she answered an incoming call without checking the caller ID, not realizing it was Henry on the line.
As she approached the lounge entrance, handing her lounge pass to the hosts, the sound of Henry's voice suddenly jolted her awake. His scolding tone pierced through the haze of her fatigue, catching her off guard.
Sage winced, her head throbbing with a dull ache. She struggled to gather her thoughts and make sense of his scolding words. She knew she needed to address the situation, but at this moment, her hunger and weariness took precedence.
"Hey, Henry," she replied, her voice laced with drowsiness and a hint of annoyance. "I just woke up and I've got a pounding headache. Can we talk later? I'm about to have breakfast and catch my flight."
On the other side of the line, Henry, sitting in his apartment in London, clutched his head in frustration as Sage abruptly ended the call. He sighed deeply, feeling a mix of disappointment and concern. The sudden disconnection left him with a lingering sense of unease, unsure of how to navigate the situation.
Throughout the day, Henry tried reaching out to Sage multiple times, but each attempt was met with silence. Texts, calls, and voicemails went unanswered, further fueling his frustration. It seemed that Sage had made up her mind to thoroughly ignore him.
With the early morning light casting a soft glow, Sage boarded the flight to Lhasa, her mind still clouded with sleep. The grogginess clung to her, a reminder of the hurried morning and the countless thoughts swirling in her head. As she settled into her seat, she glanced at her phone, noticing missed calls from Henry. However, the anticipation of the journey to Tibet consumed her thoughts, and she made a conscious decision to delay any conversation until later. The hum of the aircraft and the promise of a new adventure lulled her into a state of tranquility, as she drifted into a light slumber, leaving Henry's call unanswered and the day unfolding before her.
--------
As Sage's group huddled together, discussing their route up the mountain and making important decisions, her phone suddenly rang again, breaking the concentration in the room. Absentmindedly, she answered the call, not expecting it to be anyone significant. But as she heard Henry's voice on the other end, a mixture of curiosity and apprehension swept over her.
Excusing herself from the group, Sage stepped away to find a quieter spot for their long-awaited discussion. The surroundings blurred as her focus shifted to the conversation at hand. It was a moment she had anticipated, the chance to finally address the unresolved issues between them.
"Have you lost your mind?" Henry's voice reverberated through the phone, a mix of concern and frustration evident in his tone.
Sage took a moment to collect herself, her voice steady as she responded, "Crazy? I assure you, Henry, I'm as sane as ever. Now, what's the matter?"
His words carried a weight of worry and accusation as he fired back, "You're seriously climbing Everest because of our break-up? Are you trying to put yourself in danger? Or seeking revenge? Or maybe you just want my attention? Well, congratulations, you've certainly got it now! But this is madness! Come back immediately!"
Sage couldn't help but let out a small chuckle, her voice laced with a touch of wit, "Wow, Henry, not everything I do is a ploy to get your attention. Trust me, the world doesn't revolve around you." There was a brief silence before Henry responded, his voice softer, "I still worry about you, Sage. I don't want anything bad to happen."
Sage could feel her resolve wavering as Henry's concern seeped through the phone. She took a deep breath, reminding herself of her newfound strength. "Well, whatever happens, it's really not your problem anymore, Henry. So don't worry, love. See you in 40 days, or perhaps sooner if luck is on my side... or if I manage to survive," she added with a teasing lilt in her voice. "At least for the next month or so, you won't have to endure my supposed annoyance," she quipped, lightening the moment with a touch of humor.
"Bye," Sage said playfully, letting a mischievous tone color her voice before ending the call and powering off her phone. She knew that once the climb began, communication would be a challenge, and she wanted to embrace the adventure without the distractions of technology. With a smirk on her face, she imagined Henry's reaction when he realized she would be out of reach for a while.
A/N: Alright people, I have not written in a long time, but I hope you enjoyed this one! I will be making some changes, because I probably made some mistakes here and there. I will make the next part in a while.
