My child is turning 5 this year. He’s autistic and needs significant assistance. If a shooter were to walk into his school one day, I’m not 100% certain he would understand he was in lethal danger. I’m not 100% he would understand he needs to run or hide. This thought keeps me up at night, fills me with a kind of cold fear I can’t begin to describe. And the possibility of it happening is increasing every year as gun violence in schools becomes more and more common.

This should have ended 20 years ago after Columbine High. We absolutely cannot tolerate a second generation of increasing gun violence in our schools. We cannot tolerate the wholesale, mass murder of children. We cannot continue to pretend that this is a problem that is too complicated to be solved.

It’s not complicated, and every second our politicians and corporations hold us hostage, they are ensuring that more of our children are killed in cold blood.
