Hi! super excited for this event, its just around the corner!

Treating week sounds so fun btw. will definitely be participating.

2 Questions:

'Unlike the main event, a treat doesn’t have to be exactly 100 words long.' <- so does this mean we could write anywhere between 150 words to 2000? or is 2000 a bit extreme for this event

If i didn't want my prompt to go on the treating list, but i wanted to fill out someone elses, would that be okay? or would i have to opt into the treat list to treat someone else?

(really sorry if any of these questions are really obvious/already answered!)

As for your questions, a treat should be either 100, 200 or 300 words exactly. So, either a drabble, or a double or triple variant. 

Additionally, you do not have to opt into the treat list to create a treat! The excel sheet will be posted on the blog and accessible by anyone.

i really like the treating week idea i think this whole thing is such a cool concept i’m so excited !!! just wondering, 1) how often will it be held and 2) for treating week, there isn’t a theoretical limit so technically i could write 1k words right? Thank you!

Hi! 

As for now, this event is a one-off thing. This might change depending on the amount of interest and other similar factors. For now, the exchange (not counting pinch hits) will be over on 26th of May, while treating week will be over on 2nd of June. However, we are planning on keeping the excel sheet up indefinitely, meaning if you want to tag someone with a drabble based on their prompts after the final date, there’s nothing stopping you, we just won’t reblog it. 

As for word limit, please write 100, 200, or 300 words only. 200 words should be tagged double drabble, while 300 should be tagged triple drabble.

Treating week

Surprise! We will be doing a treating week!

Since this is a drabble event, each person will write and receive exactly 100 words. That’s not a lot, so we decided to do something for those overeager souls who can’t get enough of writing.

On the signup form, there will be a question asking about whether or not you wish to opt into treating week. Selecting yes means the ‘Receiving a gift’ part of your sign up form will be added to a public excel sheet for people to see, and maybe even write about! You don’t have to opt into receiving to create a treat - the excel sheet will be posted on this blog for all to access. That also means that if you’ve missed your chance to sign up, you can still participate by making a treat!

Treat week will run from 27th of May until 2nd of June!

Unlike the main event, a treat doesn’t have to be exactly 100 words long. For treats you’re allowed to go wild and write as many as 200 or even 300 words of fanfiction. Just remember to tag it as double or triple drabble respectively!

The event rules apply to treats as well.

Question! If we make multiple gifts, are we allowed to make multiple chapters of one story as long as they’re each 100 words?

Question: you say assignments are sent out on the 24th, and creation and posting period begins on the 25-26th. Is there a cut off date for when assignments HAVE to be in?

Drabbles are pretty short so i can't assume they'd take too long, but was just wondering! thank you :D

Im only in one mcyt fandom, and I’m worried that I’ll get a prompt that I can’t write well due to missing knowledge. Is there going to be anything to prevent that or will I need to get the prompt reassigned?

Hello! This ask took us a while to answer, as we thought we’d have a bit more time to discuss the matter. Unless there is no other person with a sign up matching your own, you will get an assignment that at the very least matches the fandom you’ve signed up for. If there somehow are no matches, we will reach out to you in DMs and discuss from there. As to giftee reassignment, if you dislike the prompt you’ve received, you have 12 hours to let us know you would like to switch it up. With that said, do not get attached to your assignment until an announcement is posted saying that everyone has been assigned their giftees - we might reach out to you with an offer to switch with someone who decided to reject their assignment. You can, of course, say no! We will then move on to the next person with the closest match. We hope this answers your question, but please send us an ask or a DM if there’s any need for clarification!

Will I be able to post on ao3 anonymously?

Hello! Yes, you can post your work anonymously to AO3, but we do require you to post a link to that work on Tumblr, tagging both this blog and your giftee. It does not have to be your main blog, just one you check up on often enough to see any messages we might send your way. Hope this answers your question!

What are we working with here? As in is it strictly characters? (rpf allowed? personas?) Shipping allowed? Any characters/cc's banned? Any other restrictions?

(difference between c! cc! & persona using bbh:

c! - strictly from dsmp or qsmp cannon - has all the trauma/unique traits from those contiunities

cc! - rpf, real life irl bbh who throws knives and goes on teamspeak with his friends

personas - a sort of inbetween, frequently is a demon or demon with a human form, basically if you wrote about the manhunts or mcc or just in a mc world that isn't necessarily lore based that bbh would be classified as 'persona')

Hi! First things first, shipping is allowed! There will be a question about whether or not you would like to create/request a gift that includes shipping on the signup. The only constraints are no nsfw for this event, and don’t write about anything your giftee says they wouldn’t like. 

As for restrictions on characters, we’re allowing all MCYT c!’s but have to ask that you stay away from cc!’s. Any MCYT characters are fair game, content creators themselves are banned. Personas as you’ve described them here, fictional characters that are not strictly based off of any set lore, are also fine! 

Anything else regarding creation guidelines should, theoretically, be mentioned in the intro post. If not, don’t hesitate to reach out!

MCYT Drabble Exchange: Overview and Rules

Do you like writing? Do you like Minecraft youtubers? Do you, perhaps, like writing about Minecraft youtubers? Well, we do too! Only problem is, we often stay up late wagging our fists at a half-finished document, cursing the fact that writing is hard, life is busy and there's just not enough time in the day to sit down and make a good fic. Well, if you’re looking for a quick little block people centered writing challenge, then boy, do we have just the mini-event for you!

Welcome everyone to the 2024 (first ever!) MCYT Drabble Exchange!

TIMELINE: May 6th - sign ups open May 17th - sign ups close May 24th - all assignments sent May 25-26th - creation and posting period May 26th 11:59pm BST - posting period ends [What time is it for me?] May 27th-June 2nd - treating week

RULES: 1. As per Tumblr and AO3 TOS, you must be over 13 to participate. 2. You agree to create a work of exactly 100 words by the given deadline, or contact a mod on Tumblr for your giftee to be reassigned. 3. You agree to abide by your giftee’s DNW. 4. Your work must focus on at least one requested character, but can include non requested characters. 5. All works must be MCYT-centric. 6. This is a 13+ exchange, there is no NSFW allowed. This applies to sexual content as well as extreme (e-rated) gore. 7. Make your gift in good faith - something that you think your giftee would like. 8. All violent/dark/triggering topics must be tagged appropriately. 9. No AI generated content.

POSTING: You can post your work to Tumblr or AO3, we don’t mind either! We do however require you make a Tumblr post tagging both this blog and your giftee. We have an AO3 Collection! Works posted to the collection might take a while to show up, so please don’t panic if you don't see yours! They need to be manually accepted.

So, what is a drabble?  A drabble is a written work made up of exactly 100 words. Typically viewed as a challenge, drabbles are often meant to test a writer’s skill in brevity, seeing how efficiently they can communicate emotions or ideas through such tight restrictions. For this event, we are using this unique format to bring the joy of MCYT into the world! Think, how would a lighthearted interaction between Tubbo and Tommy play out? How many insults could Grian hurl at Jimmy? How much emotion can you squeeze out of QSMP Jaiden if you’ve only got her in your little writer hands for 100 words? For this event, we encourage you to be creative, try some new things, and most importantly, have fun!   (To get a feel of what you’re working with, keep in mind that the previous paragraph has a word count of 120, twenty words over your limit!)

Are violent/triggering topics allowed? As MCYT content can often include violence, character death, murder games, and other such themes, we do allow them. However those are opt-in - if your giftee hasn’t asked for it, then don’t write it. If you do end up writing about these topics, make sure to tag appropriately! 

What if I can’t finish on time? Contact us on this blog as soon as possible! A pinch hit will be sent out, and your giftee will be reassigned. If you do endup requesting a pinch hit, you will still get your own gift!

How will the matches be made? After the sign ups are done, the event mods will match everyone to ensure everyone gets to write what they signed up for! Once matches are made, you will receive your assignment via Tumblr DMs.

Can I make more than one gift? Of course! As long as it complies with your giftee’s requests you’re welcome to write as many drabbles as your heart desires!
