Introverted Intuition (Ni) vs Extroverted Intuition (Ne)
Tumblr media
All perceiving functions are Irrational, and judging functions are rational. See this post for more information.
Ne/Extroverted Intuition is Objective, meaning it makes abstract associations in the outer world and interprets external possibilities. Their perception is constantly looking for new possibilities and searching for objects of the unknown; they dislike an environment that never changes, and abandon their interests when there is no longer anything new to explore. Jung noted that Extroverted Intuitives may seem similar to Extroverted Sensors, because both these functions are orientated towards the objective reality. Based from observation he described that the Ne-types he interacted with often spoke of what appeared to be sense-perceptions, when he asked about their opinion on their own orientation of their cognition. Ne types are guided by these sensations, not because of they are interested in exploring the sensory environment as it actually is, to reach fulfillment (Se) but to try to encompass possibilities.
Jung’s quote about Ne:
“Where intuition has the priority, every ordinary situation in life seems like a closed room, which intuition has to open”.
Ni/Introverted Intuition has an subjective impression from the external world, which moves away from the external object itself and begins to realize it’s own interpretation and what ideas this has released in the mind of the Introverted Intuitive; the focus of inner possibilities. From all the functions, Ni is the most related to the unconscious perception, based from Jung’s definition, hence the “hunches” and sudden realizations discussed in MBTI descriptions. It filters the external perception of the object, just as all the introverted functions do, which makes them subjective (based on the interpretation of the individual rather than extending it’s knowledge into the external environment, which is what all the extroverted functions do. Ni is abstract impressions and the underlying symbolism taken from a physical object (Se).
As my fictional example of each intuitive function, Ne types remind me of Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad - he was constantly seeing new ideas to escape the consequences of the situation, thinking of wacky ideas such as Lazor Tag.
Ne vs Si and Rationality:

For Ni, Oogway from Kung Fu Panda:
Tumblr media
He perceives a vision of Tai Lung’s return for vengeance. When Po reaches the stadium he claims he “senses the dragon warrior is in our presence”, and thus decided it was time for the selection of the champion destined to be the dragon warrior. He is highly perceptive (Irrational), believing “there are no accidents” and other perspectives not influenced by reason (/rationality). When he “senses” his time has come, he leaves Shifu and ascends. Ni in Socionics is described as a strong sense of time, and thus is also known as “Temporal Intuition”. This is why introverted intuitives are often associated with the capability of predicting upcoming events.
Ni vs Se and Rationality:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5GCfNV9l7k
In summary: Ni is associations leading away from the objective, Ne is associations and possibilities orientated towards objective reality. Both are removed from tangible (sensory) perception when in the dominant/auxiliary perspective.

Why people mistype themselves
"MBTI" blog: You are an XXXX if you drink water. Trust me I'm an XXXX and I drink water. Reblog if you are also an XXXX and drink water :)
Everybody: OMG I do that also! Most XXXX thing to do!
People trying to type themselves: I must be an XXXX then...
Me, after 200+ notes: why

How the 2nd and 3rd function approach decisions
IXTJ (Te-Fi)
“This is what makes sense… but do I believe it’s right?”
INXP (Ne-Si)
“There are so many possibilities… but I have already tried this one”
ENXJ (Ni-Se)
“This is how things will turn out… but what do I need right now?”
IXFJ (Fe-Ti)
“This is what’s best for everyone… but is it logical for me?”
ISXP (Se-Ni)
“This is what needs to be done now… but what about the consequences?”
EXFP (Fi-Te)
“This is what matters to me… but does it make sense?”
ESXJ (Si-Ne)
“This is already tested and secure… but what if there are other possibilities?”
EXTP (Ti-Fe)
“This is what’s most logical for me… but how does it affect others?”

Cognitive Function definitions
Perception Functions:
Tumblr media
Extroverted Sensing / Se: The awareness and external observation of space and the environment. A person or an object can only be influenced in actual reality (an external perception of tangible surrounding). The goal of using force and willpower to affect people/objects in the surrounding space. Ideas are only useful if they will impact the external environment with force.
Introverted Sensing / Si: Maintaining a relaxed and stable inner state, through collecting and gathering sensory experience. Comparing past experience of sensation to the current moment. Physical external sensations that affect the internal state of an individual through a sense of comfort or routine.
Extroverted Intuition / Ne: Seeing the potential energy of a situation, and the potential of a person by identifying their strengths and attributes, thinking of various possibilities during discussion, juxtaposing the seemingly unrelated; the recombination of ideas and concepts, innovative ideas and techniques as an alternative solution, and seeing an opportunity.
Introverted Intuition / Ni: Where an event has come from and where it is going - cause and effect. Having an awareness of time and understanding the processes between external events. The focus of where events come from also leads to learning from mistakes through memory to apply to the present moment. Can sometimes have the ability to predict the consequences and outcome of a situation. This anticipation of events is disconnected from the present moment and results in an apparent inactivity.
Judgement Functions:
Tumblr media
Extroverted Thinking / Te: Directly accesses people and events from a logical perspective. Aims to be productive and strives for efficiency and usefulness. Makes rational decisions. Direction of the most logical course of action, wants to achieve a logical result through action and production.
Introverted Thinking / Ti: Has an analytical state of mind. Recognizes nonsensical flaws or mistakes from a whole logical system. The analysis of logical processes and clarification rather than gaining a productive result.
Extroverted Feeling / Fe: Gaining an sense of external emotions and the emotional atmosphere, expressing feelings and experiences outwardly and openly, using words and gestures to impact the emotional space.Feeling values are developed from the environment, can recognize shared values and may adhere to them to reach a goal.
Introverted Feeling / Fi: Can sometimes appear analytical, personal values and sentiments, the focus on feelings of the individual and this reaction to a situation, which also involves an emotional sensitivity, prefers not to express emotion outwardly and directly. how a situation adheres or conflicts with their own values, feeling values is deprived internally.

Types during Finals
ESFP: Goes on 2837382928 forms of social media in denial that finals are coming up
ESTP: Does the same as ESFP but with more coffee
ISTP: Stays up all night scrolling through Wikipedia, somehow ends up on an article for sewing
ISFP: Listens to "Bring me to Life" on repeat as they wait for someone to save them from the nothing they've become
INFP: Their textbooks and flashcards are stained with a lot of tears. It's a good thing they use waterproof pens.
ENFP: Chugs gallons of coffee and does everything except for study for finals. (Somehow they also clean their room in the process)
ENFJ: Organizes a group study session. No one attends.
INFJ: Studied beforehand. Still as sleep-deprived as the rest for some reason.
INTJ: Pulls seven all-nighters in a row, somehow survives and is still on the honor roll
INTP: On their twenty-eighth all-nighter in a row, they put a pile of textbooks under their pillow to "absorb information". It doesn't work.
ENTP: Does the same thing as ISTP but with 47297364 more tabs
ENTJ: Goes over color-coded notes before bed, soon turns desperate and resorts to all-nighters
ESTJ: Never notices when their coffee is black when sleep-deprived
ISTJ: Screams internally as they go over 2583728 pages of notes and 976 flash cards
ISFJ: Organizes a group study session via Skype, doesn't come due to extracurricular activities
ESFJ: Comes to the study session, takes screenshots of everyone's notes, cries when it's over due to the towering responsibilities

Misplaced and/or Misdirected Introverted Thinking (Ti)
By misplaced and misdirected, in this context, I’m referring to ways in which the function is conducted that obstruct one and/or others’ wellbeing and growth. Some instances may be within what would be considered as ‘unhealthy’ and ‘toxic’. The following are only a few of the ways in which the Introverted Thinking (Ti) function of a person is misplaced and/or misdirected: - Crippling perfectionism; having high standards and aiming to be and do well with them can be great as long as it’s not paralyzing and keeping from making the necessary ‘mistakes’ to change and improve where it’s needed. - Senseless fault-finding and nit-picking; focusing too much on what is wrong and losing sight of what is right (or highlighting what is wrong for no good reason and more often than necessary) can be both harmful and stagnating. - Endless questioning; questioning is important and recommendable to find and create solid foundations and constructs, but if it keeps going incessantly, it can needlessly break or impair the solidity of things. - Endless hypothesizing; hypothesizing is important and recommendable to come up with new ways to look at things and fill the gaps, but if it keeps going incessantly, it can leave no room for the facts and how things are truly like. - Destructive and unproductive battle of wits; intellectual conflict may form doorways to exploration and clarifications, but if there’s too much emphasis on proving one’s intellectual superiority and another’s intellectual inferiority, many opportunities to learn will be lost. - Insensitive and disrespectful prodding; it’s one thing to take interest in another person and participate in light teasing to get them to open up about matters, and it’s another to be pervasively insistent on getting someone to share about themselves (by pushing buttons and more) when they don’t want, need nor have to. - Dismantling and reducing to bare minimum; in exaggerated efforts to be “detached” and “impartial,” stripping objects and subjects to the point where they lose their meaning and significance. - Overvaluing intelligence and logic; believing intelligence and logic (in self and in others) are all that count and having little to no patience or appreciation for anything else not only lacks compassion - but also leads to a distorted and incomplete worldview. - Severe distrust and negativity; not that being happy-go-lucky is always that much better, but many worthwhile people and experiences can be missed (or even tainted) if there’s a strong predisposition to think the worst of them. - Projection; assuming they understand others when, in reality, they’re only attributing their own motives and intentions to others. You may recognize one or more of these in the use of Introverted Thinking (Ti), from a smaller to a larger degree. Once you become aware of these, you’re more able to replace and redirect this function in more positive and constructive ways.

I don’t believe I told anyone what to do, more like I suggested a way to make things easier for everyone, but okay. I didn’t force anyone to get into the train, but instead hoped that if they idea reasonated with enough people, it would work out, and if it didn’t, then that was that.
The exact point of this is so you can continue to tag your type in those random posts so anyone who wants to check anything written on it can check the general tag, but for us MBTI bloggers who are looking for specific points which are either informative or ‘types as ___’ or whatever related to find those post more easily. Not everyone has the time to scroll through a bunch of posts that have no use on their informative MBTI blogs just to find one post out of 20 that fits that description. Plus, even if we did have the time, it’s very tiring and it makes MBTI blogging WAY less fun.
The point wasn’t completely changing the tags of the MBTI community, but rather introducing a new set of tags aimed to filter informative/types as/etc posts that are typically seen in MBTI blogs so we can find that content more easily. Nobody has to stop using the old tags to organize their blog, the tags are not meant to affect your blog but rather affect the tumblr.com/tagged/ section. The whole point was having people use the normal MBTI tags for everything and these tags for specifics, adding them to the already existent tagging system solely when they thought it fit the profile.
This is NOT my own organization. If you go into the links section of my blog you’ll notice that none of the links in there are affected by these tags, they all use the general ones, because tagging reblogged posts affects how those tags appear in MY blog and doesn’t have any impact on the Tumblr tag. However, when I create new posts I use ^this^ set of tags so people can find them in that tumblr tag and then the normal general tags because, like everyone else, those are the ones I use for my blog.
Anyway, I feel like I’m repeating myself, but the bottom line here seems to be that you misunderstood, or maybe I just didn’t explain myself clearly enough to those who weren’t familiar with how these tag systems normally work.
Tumblr media
I don’t know about the rest of you, mbti bloggers, but I’m sick of having to scroll down through countless of personal posts on the mbti tags in order to finally find a good post. Fandoms were smart enough to create tags to track specific content for them to reblog without spending hours going down a tag, so why not implement this idea to the MBTI community? Not only will this make our blogging more effective but it will also help anyone who doesn’t have an MBTI blog but wants to access educative posts (or for those who prefer it, memes) about their type more easily. Here are the tags I’ve come up with:
mbtitag: any post of any kind (either informative or ‘types as’ ‘mtl likely’ etc) related to the mbti community
for specific types, add ‘tag’ after the type. ex: istptag
for specific functions, add ‘tag’ after the function. ex: nitag
16tag: for posts aimed at all types
mbtitheory: if post has educational purposes
mbtimisc: if post is ‘types as’ + ‘mtl likely’ + meme + any post with entertainment purposes
I hope enough people make use of this system for it to work! Please, if you do, only use these tags if suitable. If your post is personal or not aimed at the MBTI community (aka created to be either informative or reblogged) DO NOT use the tags. This is meant to make people’s blogging as fast and effective as possible.
