Vanish Castle
First NES style thing I've made in a long time. This is music to accompany an outing into a castle that sometimes exists and does not other times.

My favorite post on the entire internet.
so my apartment building got a notice board to post fire alarm tests and maintenance announcements and such. the building is pretty well-maintained, so we rarely get notices. the board is big and grey and to think it would be empty like that 99% of the time was a bland boring sin i just couldn't bear, so i vandalized the corner of its empty canvas with a teeny tiny Guy
and within a few days, there was a sudden addition from my one of my neighbors along with a Bunch of thumbtacks. this was an unexpected, but welcome surprise!
well there was still so much space, i figured i'd add another crumb to the art hoard. i'd been playing genshin that day so i drew my favorite grandpa
and like clockwork, new art manifested!! this person is gonna grow to be a great artist i know it. the detail in those stones? hell yeah that's cool.
we're two weeks into it. more neighbors have joined in with their artwork. who knew there were so many artists in my building?? we're onto somethin great here i just know it.

I was hanging out with my friends, when I said "Carol of the bears" instead of "Carol of the bells".
This then happened:

I was moving things around a hard drive and found this song! It was made for a game I was making back in 2021, set in a dystopian world. It would be used in the back alleyway (effectively the town to buy stuff) and your hideout (where you would get your jobs and set up your loadout).

As a user of GM, I can't not reblog this! Go grab GM!
GameMaker is Now Free!
Here's a cool thing: GameMaker is now free for non-commercial, non-console use, and all its asset bundles are free! They've also introduced a one-time free aimed at replacing their current subscription model.
Also, while they're being vague about it right now they've hinted that they might be working toward some open source progress as well, which is very cool!
So if you've ever wanted to give GameMaker a shot and try out a new engine, now you can!

"Monument"
A couple of years ago, I put together a little album of Cave Story-esque music.
The description for this one read:
"When a human dies, a monument is created in memory of them. They looked... like this right??"

There's a jam that started around the time I made my itch account. It ends at the end of the year and you bet I'm going to make an entry for it.
EDIT: Well, I just learned the voting period is over 70 years long. I'm not sure what the motivation behind that is, but that is so weird and kind of hilarious.

LD54 - EXTRA?
OK so full confession, I haven't been doing well lately and LD seems overly stressful on top of some other things going on in my life right now. I might pick this up again next weekend, finish it and submit it for extra.
EDIT: A key take away for when I made SQUIK, was that taking my time and prioritizing self-care and only working on the game when I could, made it like 100000 times better than I had anticipated. After doing like, 5 in quick succession, I don't think it's a bad idea to take it easy on this one.
EDIT 2: Might find another jam for this one, finish it another time. Being totally honest, expecting something like an LD entry in that time with how I felt later last month and at the start of this one wasn't reasonable and I didn't want to force something that I wasn't going to like working on or playing in the end.
I lost my mom last year and it still hurts. It's nice to have a creative outlet but it's important to know your limits and to not hurt yourself and burn out. I'm going to work on something with a bit more of a deliberate pace for a bit. Just embrace the process at a speed I can handle right now.
Jams ain't going anywhere, I can catch up later.
