Sad Headcanon Time!

Sonic doesn't like being around Gemerl.

It's nothing Gemerl did, really. Sonic's remarkably good at forgiving people that tried to kill him. Their eight or so fights over the course of the First Shattered World Crisis aren't really anything to hold grudges over.

But that's his kid. Except not. He found that robot on a beach and raised them himself. And then they died in his arms, asking him whether they should be glad that they were born. Whether their life was something to regret.

On some level, he knows that Gemerl doesn't have anything in them that's Emerl. Emerl's body crumbled to ash in his hands, and Eggman built copies of the design before. Gemerl is obviously just a refined version of the E-121 designs. But they're still painted in Eggman's colour scheme, they still have Eggman's mockery of Emerl's name. He visits Cream and sees this shadow of what he once loved, more robotic than Emerl ever was. It doesn't bother Cream. Why does it bother him so much?

(He still has the Emerald that was all that remained of Emerl. If he convinced Tails to install it in Gemerl's chassis, would it bring Emerl back? Is that even a good idea?)

So he stays away whenever he can.

Sage asks him to look after her 'father' when she goes. The angry, vicious, vindictive part of him, the part that only ever came out he was Darkspine Sonic, wants to spit back that Eggman offered only further torment when he killed Sonic's kid, why does he deserve anything besides scorn? He stomps it down. It won't help anyone if he lets it out.

(Sage comes back, of course. Like she never left, Eggman pushes a few buttons and he gets her back. Of course he gets the get-out clause. Gaias forbid Eggman experience consequences.)

This is actually the third time I've drawn this picture.

I drew the first iteration of this in January 2022. At the time, this blog mainly posted joke content and I did all the lineart in MS Paint with a mouse. I

The first remake was drawn in November 2022, a little under a year later. At this point I'd learned how to use Krita, but was still using a mouse. I would until like four months ago lol.

Anyways, thank you again so much for sticking with me through all of my nonsense. I really appreciate you guys.

I honestly and truly believe all good AUs should be a little “”””ooc”””” in the sense that good characterisation involves understanding that changes a characters backstory and circumstances will have an effect on how they respond to the world around them

Good characterisation isn’t about creating a perfect 1:1 canon replica it’s about understanding why a character is different in your work and about grounding the changes you do deliberately choose to make in canon character traits

Does anyone here feel like explaining this "no note bungus" thing?

So...

There's this post by @itwashotwestayedinthewater from the 13th of August 2016 that just says "bungus" followed by a reblog by the same user saying "welcome to 'no note bungus'. reblog and you will feel a sense of accomplishment and goodwill wash over you". No matter how many people replied to it, reblogged it or liked it, none of those replies, reblogs or likes would appear on the post's notes, not even the OP's reblog where they added the second part of the post.

It became even weirder in the last couple of days, when some likes actually started appearing on the notes and the note counted became a number other than zero for the first time in almost eight years. Those likes are also very strange by themselves: the users appearing in the list of likes to the No Note Bungus post also change depending on where you're reading the post.

And something even crazier is that, on the 20th of September 2022, one reblog had appeared on the notes, been screen-capped, and then disappeared again.

I know some people here know about websites and other internet & computer science stuff, and they might be able to provide at least some possible answers to why such a thing as the No Note Bungus post even exists. A few of them already explained successfully other bizarre Tumblr phenomena, like a bunch of posts with special letter fonts and text effects that became famous for losing their absolute s*** when someone tried to read them on Tumblr's mobile app. If anyone with actual technical knowledge of how Tumblr works reads this, please come out and enlighten us, so we can go to sleep with the peace of mind of knowing that this mystery is solved and isn't gonna haunt our dreams or something.

A poll for Rouge the Bat fans (and Sonic fans in general)

I just wanna do a little... "thought experiment", if you will.

Feel free to vote and reblog this poll so it reaches more people, as well as going into more detail in case you chose Option 3.

[After the Read More, I've added some summarized arguments in favour of each of the first two options.]

I've seen people making some variation of the following arguments for both options (I apologize in advance if they feel rushed, I tried not to make this a massive wall of text):

Some who assign more blame to SEGA/ST pointed out Rouge's 3D model in Sonic Adventure 2 having The Physics™ and generally looking even more provocative than the official art made by Yūji Uekawa, which would prove that SEGA/ST were fully aware of what they were doing with/to the character and shouldn't be neither surprised nor offended by all the... interesting Rouge fanart because "they had it coming". Her treatment by SEGA/ST story-wise in other appearances of the character after SA2 is sometimes compared to Samus Aran's treatment by Yoshio Sakamoto around the time Metroid: Other M was released (and the way Nintendo at large treated her when she debuted in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and re-appeared in Smash 4).

Meanwhile, others are more inclined to hold fans responsible for this. They point out that people who would be "sexy" according to society's beauty standards/conventions should just be seen as normal instead of being so blatantly objectified, in the same way that people who don't conform to those same beauty standards and are therefore labelled "ugly" (or merely "average" or "uninteresting" or "not really noteworthy") should be treated as actual human beings; as for when other fans respond to this trend by trying to convince everyone else of de-sexualizing Rouge, that would actually be a knee-jerk reaction from people with rather puritanical morals. They also posit that SEGA/ST designing Rouge like that might actually be genius and something they did on purpose, because it "challenges" the audience's preconceived ideas, makes them think whether or not their reaction to Rouge's figure is actually okay, and encourages them to unlearn some toxic behaviour when interacting with women in real life. As for the comparisons with Samus Aran, they draw a different comparison between some Sonic fans' attempts at de-sexualizing Rouge and some extreme reactions to Metroid: Other M where fans would try to make Samus less feminine in an attempt to fix the damage done by Other M; they point out that Rouge is still badass, smart and competent at her job while being sexy, in the same way that Samus was always meant to be simultaneously sexy and badass ever since the Metroid series started back in 1986, and people (both those being horny for Rouge and those trying to stop others from being horny for Rouge) should learn that –as someone else has succinctly put it– "Being attractive does not devalue as a person".
