I've been wanting to draw something inspired by this song for a long time. To me, it represents the tragic cycle of C-PTSD, especially as a result of abuse. It doesn't matter how many times you try to bandage the wounds, they always get ripped open again, and the cycle of pain repeats anew.

This one isn't that different from the original, I just drew over the original sketch and filled in with markers instead of colored pencils. A Lot of details in the original illustration bothered me, so I figured I'd just fix those up while I'm trying to get back into drawing. I think it's a vast improvement! At least I can more clearly see what's going on!

Marker Test

My mom got me a great set of markers the other day, and I've been playing around with it! I can't believe how much faster they are than my trusty colored pencils whilst looking a lot less grainy, and the best part is they're compatible with my other supplies! I think I'll continue to use a combination of different art supplies for my illustrations, and I also think the new comic I'm planning will use primarily these markers. If only I had an actual baby pink color. All my pink stuff keeps running out because I use them so often.

Say No to AI Art

I think it was probably obvious what my stance on this was, but yeah. Until there are more legal protections for artists, I don’t think it’s ethical to support these AI programs.

In case you haven't heard it yet, as it currently stands, AI art is art theft. This is because AI generated images are only made by feeding regular images into their programs, and there are currently no legal protections for artists who have their copyrighted images fed into these programs to make new ones. This means people can become more slippery art thieves by turning a copyrighted image into a very similar non-copyrighted image, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Human artists don't need AI, because humans can take inspiration and then use their own creativity to make something completely new, being smart enough to reference other things without copying them outright, but AI needs human art in order to chew it through its program and spit out nothing more than a cheap imitation of human creativity. Most other types of programs that generate art at least have the sense to limit their scope to the public domain only, but visual art doesn't currently have this limitation.

The thing that's fascinating about this whole thing to me is that it reminds me of a certain type of cricket that evolved to be silent. It relied on the sound of regular crickets to find mates, which spread their genes throughout the population. This is common on islands with parasitic flies, who also rely on the calls of noisy crickets to find their victims.

So what happens when the noisy males completely disappear? Will the crickets be able to survive without the noise they relied on?

Art theft is already such a problem in online art spaces, and artists are routinely overworked and underpaid.

Let's at least not make this bludgeoning problem worse.
