Some people might think that's less heartfelt, to just buy presents in bulk so you always have something available, but in reality it was the only way to keep up with this vixen.

Damon made a mental note to go poke holes in all of Stef's k-cups.

Today is Katherine's birthday because she said it was.

Taking the presents one by one she humms a pleased little hum. She loves being spoiled after all.

There is an answer to Lizzy's question but she just doesn't have the heart to say she doesn't have anyone that loves her as much as Lizzy does. That would make everyone else look bad and Lizzy would most likely go beat up the salvatores about it.... actually never mind.

"Because your father and uncle don't love me enough."

Katherine couldnt help but crack a small smile at his comment about being disheveled and she glanced to look him over, smiling a little more.

"Well I happen to think you look sexy like this too."

There wasn't a look on Elijah Katherine didn't love... well maybe the cop mustache look would be a poor choice, but really thats on anyone.

He's right. Really the only people he does things he doesnt want to do for are his stupid siblings. So the fact that he stays, that he picked her at all means he wants her. Why she can't for the life of her figure out. Sure on most days she would boast and say its obvious why he wants her look at her- but that was surface level confidence and contrary to popular belief that confidence doesn't run all the way through her. Once you dig deep enough Katherine is pretty insecure and afraid of abandonment... but can you blame her?

Since she can't figure out why he wants her she can't promise that he'll stay. She can't make sure that he'll KEEP wanting her. No one else does. Everyone else drops her at the first sign of trouble. Hell sometimes they drop her before she has the chance to be trouble.

You're still the same lying manipulative BITCH that you've always been.

But did anyone ask her WHY she had to be that way? Did anyone stop to think maybe it wasn't a choice she makes because its fun, but one she had to make because it was necessary? They don't know because they don't ask. But Elijah knows, because he was there. He knew Katerina before Katherine. He knows everything his brother has ever put her through. A large part of Katherine thinks that the reason he works so hard to learn this broken mess of a girl is because his brother is the major contributing factor to it, and he has a lot of guilt there. She's never asked to confirm, but it's her working theory.

Maybe he's only with her out of guilt altogether....

Katherine swallowed hard at the thought, trying to push it down so she could fake a smile and nod when he asked if she was feeling better. She doesn't want to be more work for him tonight, after all he already crawled out of bed looking a hot mess for her.

Katherine gave his hand a quick squeeze and put on that forced smile like she was on set.

"Yea. Yea." The vampire nodded. "I'm feeling better, thank you..."

             the longer he watched her and the longer she struggled with tears, the clearer it became that she was emotionally upset. he did not know the reasons for this, as he had the impression that everything was okay. as far as he could remember, nothing extraordinary had happened. but he knew that emotions and thoughts can be a tricky place if it starts to spiral in the wrong direction which seemed to be the case right now. all he could do was reassure her that she didn't need to have doubts.

             "if you weren't worth it, i wouldn't be here right now. in my sleeping outfit. without styled hair." the corner of his lips curled upwards, trying to lighten up her mood. he doesn't look neat, he looks disheveled because he had already fallen asleep before he noticed her absence. under other circumstances, he would never feel comfortable to face someone while he looks like that. but he did now because she was worth it.

             "you can also be sure that i am not someone who makes such a decision lightly. i choose you, katerina. because you are worth it. because i do enjoy being with you although you can be strenuous sometimes." it's no secret that she can be strenuous sometimes, especially if she feels like he doesn't give her enough attention. and yes, when she's like that or decides to be a brat, it can be draining for him. but he manages it nonetheless because she's worth the trouble and because he knows that she's not doing it to upset him (at least not in a vicious sense).

             "and i'm still here," he added with a smile before he placed a gentle kiss on the back of her hand. "are you feeling better?"

"You can stop twirling your knife Rambo, if I wanted to hurt you I would have already. The macho threat display isn't necessary." Katherine stated with a sarcastic tone and smile to match.

"Abomination am I?" Her head tilted with a small smirk. "I prefer apex predator." Eyes darken just a little, a warning, not a threat. At least not for now. He must be a hunter of some sort. Her circling stops and she remains in place just beside the body, giving it a look over.

"Seems like such a waste." The vampire nudged the body with the tip of her boot. "What's funny is that I had been planning on eating this guy later, and now you've stolen my dinner. What's a girl to do?" Katherine sighed heavily to be dramatic.

"I'm not going to eat it off the floor- so it looks like you owe me a meal."

This flicker of guilt won't survive. Like a muffled scream from deep within of the buried part that wants this madness to stop, to resist once more. Katherine's insistence on the dead man standing in some closer relation to him strikes Cain as mildly vexing at best, nothing worth any discussion. May she think whatever she pleases. Brave, however, this woman must be for lingering around; all under keen observation. Both hands still hanging idle by his sides, he splays the fingers of one and the knife zips back up into the swiftly closing grip. " Call it a sixth sense if you will ", accompanies a languid shrug, ere he starts to amble around the corpse, ever remaining across from her.

" Demons, werewolves, vampires... I recognize every abomination. " Takes one to know one, right? Twirling the knife in his hold like it's some fun-item you'd play with, he keeps staring Katherine down. Expectation surfacing where regret managed to crawl across one minute prior. " Well, now that you've sated your curiosity... I prefer to clean up my messes alone. "
