Felix wasn't exactly a wanted child, he was conceived and kept as an attempt for his mother to manipulate his dad. His dad left as soon as he could once he recognized the toxicity of his lover and well before fef could build any fond memories of him. From there he was left neglected until his mom came for his life. As a little boy, he was left half dead but by some miracle was picked up by a children's home nearby. They nursed him back to health but he never quite recovered fully. Because of behavior issues he lived at the children's home until he was 18 when he packed up and signed up for the military. He has not forgiven his mother and dreams of paying her back for that some day

Felix used to be pretty close with cats as a kid, especially ferral strays. He found that he related much more to these animals than to the people around him. After a fight with one of the other kids over some kittens that were used against him, Felix hid any and all genuine affection as he learned that he couldn't trust people not to use it or his feelings against him. He still likes cats and some dogs, but not to the extent that he'll feel bad kicking one in front of someone or outright killing one if it serves his purposes.

he couldn’t help but turn his glare at his mentor. It wasn’t like it was unreasonable for Qrow to find someone, but the fact that the bastard didn’t even invite him lit something in Felix, something he couldn’t quite explain. Something that came out as direct anger and a feeling of abandonment.
