This is 100% my ADHD experience. I was diagnosed at a young age. Yet I learned that all of my symptoms were "excuses". I was lucky to get diagnosed early, but diagnosis does not always translate into understanding or support.
My parents and I were talking about job hunting, cause I need a summer job, and how I need to be reminded to do things cause ADHD. So I chime in with “I have executive dysfunction,” and my dad I kid you not replies “no you don’t,” with a straight face.
My good sir, what do you think the ADHD does!

Fork, why do you betray me!!!
TW: rant about sensory sensitivities around eating and utensils
The forks at one of my favorite restaurants have betrayed me.
For some reason these forks' outer tines have sharp corners on their edges. If I close jaw a little too much the corner can scrape across my teeth.
The rasping sensation travels through my tooth into my jaw and then straight into my brain. It is like a nail file being scraped across my exposed nerves.
If you think that is be the worst part. You would be wrong. The worst part is that the feeling persists in my tooth. Then I become horribly and completely aware of every sensation in my mouth. Especially, fixated on the single tooth involved. It is awful. Makes me never want to eat food again, with a side order of ripping out the adult tooth in question.
Fortunately, their food is good enough for me to continue eating, most of the time.
Nearly had a meltdown today. Excused myself to the restroom to regulate and it had clearly been carpet bombed with air "freshener". The cloying scent at least gave me a different sensory hell and distracted me from my teeth.
I survived without crying, and I finished brunch. I will call that a win.
TLDR do not become hyper-aware of your teeth and mouth sensations

I bought the guild poster from @ssavaart not knowing how I would display it. I bought it because I wanted the coloring page and I have always loved their work.
Today I remembered that I had an old plastic frame from the 90's that held a kitschy name art from a tourist spot in Hawaii. Short story long, it worked beautifully. Now I have the poster hanging on my wall and I am getting hyped to start my coloring project!
The picture is low quality. If you do not know the artist, I recommend you check out their art on tublr or on youtube. The process videos for this piece were such a joy to watch!

Asking for accommodations around time blindness is so hard!
My workplace had a group meeting where management said that all client meetings should be 15min long. When they asked what help the support staff or management could provide to make this happen, this was the conversation:
Me: I have ADHD. I cannot track time in my head. Can we get clocks in the meeting rooms?
Them: No, checking the time during a session is rude to the client. I don't want to see you checking watches or phones either.
Me: can the front desk who assigned the meeting tap us when time is up?
Them: No, that is not their job. (Managing flow and environment is literally their job. They even tap you when you have a new walk-in. This had just been described to us and they were asking for more ways the front desk could help out.)
When I mentioned that most of my clients have more complicated problems due to the nature of my field they said, "Yes is is fine if you go a little over time just make sure you are done in 30 minutes."
Me: I think you misunderstand my problem. I have no idea how much time has passed when I am focused on a client. 😅
Them: Don't worry, you have been doing fine. This is not about your meeting length.
Me to myself: WTF you mean it isn't about my meeting length? I know I go over 15 minutes regularly! Is this a RULE that you are trying to enforce or not.
I continued to do as I had before without any complaints. I think they just wanted to keep me because I was one of the few in my specialty.

PSA: tomatoes are not spicy. Tomatoes and tomato products should not be spicy. Pizza sauce isn’t inherently spicy. Tomato-based pasta sauce is not spicy. Ketchup is NOT spicy.
If tomatoes are spicy, you have an allergy to tomatoes.
This announcement brought to you by my almost 29-year-old husband learning for the first time in his 2.8 decades of putting food products into his mouth that spaghetti and saucy pizza aren’t spicy foods

At some point in your life, you were taught that being slightly annoying is an unforgivable sin. Maybe it was by your parents or a teacher or a friend or a bully or an older sibling. But someone taught you that being slightly annoying is a crime punishable by death.
You must unlearn this.
You must accept that all people will be annoying at some point or another in their lives, maybe all of their lives, and that this is okay. It is okay for strangers on the bus, it is okay for children in the grocery store, it is okay for people on social media, and it is okay for you.
If you ever want to truly love your fellow humans, if you ever want to truly love yourself, you must have forgiveness for being annoying.

Adults: Following rules is good, not following rules is bad
Little me: Okay :] *follows a rule*
Adults: Oh my god look at this loser. He doesn't know that this rule is Secretly Okay To Not Follow. Dumbass. Let's all laugh at him

Neurodivergence rant
*undiagnosed parents eddition*
Let me start this off by saying, I love my parents and genuinely feel they did their best.
There is a form generational trauma that comes from undiagnosed neurodivergent parents. My parents struggled in school. They both had areas of excellence and areas of extreme weakness. My father is classic ADHD hyperactive presentation. My mom is the AuDHD combo pack with OCD. They are dyslexic and discalcliac with varying presentations.
So no surprise, I am a wonderful blend of their genetics. When it was clear that I was struggling in school and social life they tried to get me help. That was how I got my ADHD diagnosis (the ASD diagnosis was considered mutually exclusive with ADD at the time which dates me a bit). Even then my father refused to accept it.
My father hated seeing me struggle in similar ways to his own struggles. He hated it even more when it was pointed out that those struggles were due to ADD. His additude was, "I don't have ADD, and I struggled like that so obviously you are doing something wrong"
I got yelled at constantly for things I did that were identical to my parent's behavior.
At the same time my mom enabled him because he wasn't "as bad" as her alcoholic father. He was not "as volatile". She also dismissed any struggles that were similar to her own.
I was the dark mirror of their own failings. My father saw in me behaviors he hated in himself and that anger got directed at me. My mother saw my struggles and dismissed their severity because I was still coping.
Incomplete lust of nurodivergent behaviors I got in trouble for and the parent who does the same thing:
- losing things (father)
- not looking people in the eye (mother)
- struggling with perfectionism (mother)
- not completing tasks (father)
- losing track of time (father)
- getting absorbed in a task to the exclusion of all else (both)
- flat affect / sounding sad (mother)
- leaving the dinner table as soon as I was done with a meal (father)
I saw the hypocrisy as a child. I learned quickly that it was worse if I pointed it out. So I learned to mask, people please, and minimize my own struggles. This was all in the context of a loving household where my parents truly had my back from external problems like bullying. They even wanted to help me with my obvious struggles.
They got me diagnosed and then continued to punish me for behaviors that were due to my diagnosis. "Don't use your ADD as an excuse." Was a common refrain in their house. Or, "I hope you can grown out of your ADD and be normal."
If I am not normal, and struggled in similar ways as they do, then that means they are "not normal". It scares them. I took on the brunt of that fear.

Whenever I see a post talking about how it's okay to steal from huge corporations, when they have shit like self checkout, I always want to jump up and say they have cameras and are collecting your information and you need to be so careful because yeah like they're inflating the prices and running monopolies and price fixing with competitors but everybody is caring about shoplifters more and that's really fucked up, but you also need to consider that Target might be keeping track of every time you don't scan something or intentionally scan it wrong, and just waiting for it to add up to a felony.
Which feels entirely beside the point and almost inappropriate to bring up when the point is that the customer is already a victim of theft, but I feel like there are people encouraging others to do stuff that can absolutely end up with them in jail without mentioning at all that it's a risk.

So Netflix is releasing this animated movie but here’s the thing - all backgrounds are done in AI. No actual BG artists were hired or credited for this work.
And here’s the kicker - I gave them too much credit. I realized that not even the AI users are credited apparently.
Check this out:

“+Human”. No names, no nothing.

I know it’s tempting, but please don’t hate-watch this thing. Numbers equal profit even if the people watching are just doing it to mock. Don’t give Netflix and other studios even more incentive to fire more animators and replace them with machines trained on their work and skill. Hilariously, the excuse used is ‘there aren’t enough artists’. That’s not true - there are more than enough artists, but the real issue is that no one wants to pay a living wage. Here’s a short video about the reality of animation in Japan.

The biggest winners in this equation at the end of the day are the AI infrastructure owners - owners of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. Do not feed this machine, it creates more monopolization of entire industries, raises a powerful few and dehumanizes the rest.
EDIT: a lot of people are unsure what the anime’s called - it’s The Dog and the Boy.
