The German language has quite a few animalistic verbs:

fuchsen ("to fox") = to annoy

hechten ("to pike") = to dive

reihern ("to heron") = to puke

dackeln ("to dachshund") = to walk slowly

aalen ("to eel") = to bask

vögeln ("to bird") = to have sex

einigeln ("to hedgehog in") = to curl up

hamstern ("to hamster") = to hoard

schlängeln ("to snake") = to wriggle

stieren ("to bull") = to goggle

unken ("to toad") = to gripe, augur doom

tigern ("to tiger") - to walk tigerishly

Do French schools have proms or any kind of school dances?

Hi!

They didn't really used to have any, but now it's not unusual for lycées to organise a party at the end of Terminale! They're not as developed as US proms though: people won't dress as fancily (typically guys may wear a suit/dress trousers and a shirt, and girls a nice dress, but not necessarily floor length), and the budget will be much, much smaller. Typically, it would take place in a large space at school e.g. the gym, or a salle des fêtes in smaller cities (community centre).

All the prom traditions like the promposals, getting corsages... Don't happen though (and fun fact, a corsage in French is actually a blouse or the bodice of a dress! Nothing to do with flower bouquets!).

there’s a category of verbs in french called verbes défectifs and while it just means that they dont have complete conjugations, i cant help but imagine a verb factory where this sometimes happens:

factory worker 1: i have made an Impersonal Verb

factory worker 2:  you fucked up a perfectly good verb is what you did. look at it. it’s only got a 3rd person singular conjugation

I teach French I at a public high school and i LOVE the errors my students make– it tells me a lot about what they hear, understand, and connect to. here’s a few of my favorites so far:

J'ai ça avec Baby-sittor (le film avec Vin Diesel), la version canadienne est la seule version que j'accepte de regarder ! J'avais d'ailleurs jamais vraiment remarqué que c'était la version canadienne, je trouvais juste qu'ils disaient certains mots bizarrement du style "J'ai oublié mon cellulaire" pour dire "j'ai oublié mon téléphone portable"

Quand t'as vu un film tellement de fois en version canadienne que même 15 ans après tu peux pas le voir en VO ou en VF

I hate those videos titles that are basically "stop saying this word" or "If you keep using this word stop RIGHT NOW" that some YouTubers use

I know the videos are meant to expand your vocabulary but

a) 90% of the time natives overuse those words too so???

b) it activates the "don't tell me what to do" bratty attitude on me

You can use so many different alternatives like 🙄
