I never personally liked Yami Yugi. I don’t hate him and if someone where to go off on some ridiculous tangent about how bad a character he is, I would defend him, because he IS a good character. I just never really cared for how much he stepped in for others.
Yet, one thing about him will never leave me alone.
Imagine when he first woke up in his own body season 5. He has been nothing but a spirit for 3000 years and more recently, he’s shared a body with a Japanese high schooler.
I picture him staring at himself and not seeing himself, but a stranger. His body may be his technically, but he’s come to know and accept Yugi’s body as a part of him too. They both have, I think.
Can you imagine him seeing the slight details of his skin and just thinking “that shouldn’t be there” or his dark fingers going over the wrinkles over his eyelids and thinking “this isn’t me. My eyes aren’t supposed to look like this.”
But they do, because he isn’t Yugi. He’s Atem.
I may not like Yami Yugi, but I can understand that he must’ve felt so empty and cold in season 5. It was only him in a body he doesn’t know. And for that, I will always say he is an amazing character.
(I could’ve just done with a little less spotlight stealing, even for a protagonist.)

“Yugi stares out of the living room window; heart stopping, then pumping impossibly fast. His throat closes up and nothing but the barest of gasps escapes his agape mouth. Cold chills run over him like ice water.
Something stares back.”
A little horror thing I wrote about early Yugi and Atem co-body sharing. Kinda.

You know what? I just realized that Kaiba’s actions in DSOD directly mirror Pegasus from Duelist Kingdom.
Going to Egypt to find some way to bring that one person back. The one they cannot live without. The one they just NEED. (Whether you ship Atem and Kaiba or not, it’s obvious he’s just as obsessed with getting him back as Pegasus was with Cecelia.)
They go to great lengths for their goals. They shove aside everyone they’re hurting to push forward. Then, once they’ve gotten the items in their grasp, an obstacle blocks them.
Pegasus had to acquire the millennium items by dueling Yugi. Kaiba had to make Yugi bring Atem out, since he couldn’t do that himself. They both force Yugi into a tournament with threats and demands that the poor guy honestly did not deserve (has anyone tried asking nicely? Yugi’s reasonable!)
They both get one last look at that person ina form they will never return in. A moment of hope before they’re gone again.
Then, their stories deviate a little. Pegasus loses and is forced to accept his grief and his actions that stemmed from it.
Kaiba, on the other hand, doesn’t stop. He shoots himself into the afterlife and duels Atem. It’s exactly what Pegasus wanted, but Kaiba actually went through with it. And now, it’s unclear if he ever even came back from it.
Fascinating!
Alright I’m on my Yugioh shit, but I think what Pegasus did to Seto Kaiba was waaaay more personal than any other Yugioh villain.
None of my thoughts are organized, but I’ll try to get it out in some kind of way that makes sense.
Let me first start by saying that Seto Kaiba is a minor through the whole series. This is important to his character, almost more than the others, because it is exactly what he’s trying to erase about himself.
Kaiba dresses himself up in outfits that accent his masculine features similar to how an adult will. His shoulder pads make his shoulders seem broader. His coat goes inward to give a very triangular shape to his torso. He’s got belts everywhere (and while yes, this is just the style of Yugioh, I believe it cannot be completely written off as just that).
At the base of it, Kaiba wants to be seen as an adult. He NEEDS to be. He runs a company and is in near constant threat of being taken advantage of by others. We see this many times throughout the show, especially by Pegasus.
Now, to connect things once again. Kaiba is a minor who was thrust into adulthood far too early, yet, he engages in child-like activities. Duel Monsters, while used for their ancient shadow games, is still just a game. A game Kaiba is OBSESSED with, to the point he becomes the face of the Blue Eyes White Dragon.
(Which is his symbol of power and autonomy over others, which further proves why he so badly hates the ancient talk, but that’s another essay)
Pegasus is the created (re-created, technically) of Duel Monsters. He made the paintings, the cards, the rules. He shows in many tournaments (assumed based off episode 2) and given how much Kaiba has won? I’m guessing they met before becoming business partners.
In short, it makes sense that Pegasus would be an important figure to Kaiba. Maybe an idol, an inspiration, or whatever it might be. Kaiba saw Pegasus and saw a man who’s game kept him alive through his years with Gozaburo, who gave him a connection to his own brother.
Pegasus is powerful. Pegasus has full control of his own actions. He is everything Kaiba wants and changed KaibaCorp. to be.
A little ways down the line, Pegasus becomes his business partner. Kaiba gets to work a littler closer with him. We never see what exactly that entailed besides letting Kaiba use the Blue Eyes (and other cards) without copyright issues and Pegasus using the holographic stages, but even that is a significant exchange.
(Makes me wonder if things hadn’t turned out the way they did, would Kaiba and Duke Devlin view him the same way?)
Then, Pegasus starts Duelist Kingdom. He uses Kaibams vulnerability to his advantage and steps in to take over. He kidnaps Mokuba, then takes his soul and shows it off like a trophy.
Pegasus has not just betrayed Kaiba’s trust, but he turned into a real person for Kaiba. It shows him that, just like everyone else, Pegasus is greedy and selfish. He takes what Kaiba worked so hard for, what he loves, just because he can. And he does so with the same smiles and teasing as before.
It’s beyond disappointment. This is heating your favorite person side with your abusers. This is a childhood hero watching you get kicked and laughing as he kicks you alongside them.
So, naturally, Kaiba won’t forgive him. We see in Battle City how bruised Kaiba’s ego is. He’s mad at Yugi, he’s mad at Izushi, no one is saved from his ire. Even Mokuba gets the short stick every so often. He is compensating BIG TIME and it’s directly connected to how things went over last season.
Might I add that Duelist Kingdom takes place less than a year after Kaiba took over KaibaCorp? This is a still pretty fresh CEO with some very big trauma that he simply has not dig into yet.
I think in a world where Pegasus was not so disillusioned by his own desperation to revive Cecelia, he would’ve been a good mentor to Kaiba. They both have a love for games, for the visual experience (painting and holograms) and they’re both very particular. Honestly, their traits would work relatively well, all things considered.
But it didn’t and we see Kaiba go through cycle after cycle of trying to get better and stumbling every step of the way.
Anyway, that’s my TedTalk. As a Pegasus enjoyed and Kaiba analysis, I found this topic very fascinating.

This is amazing characterization! When I came here for fem! Kaiba content, this is exactly what I wanted! Thank you op!
Fem! Seto Au
Seto doesn't believe what Isis said. Seto doesn't believe to be destined to duel Yugi for eternity. It was absurd and the duelist had told the woman that she needed a good psychiatrist.
Seto didn't believe her because it was a man depicted on the bas-relief. And she wasn't a man.
(Gozabouro wanted an son, not a daughter. He wouldn't have looked at her if he'd known she was a girl and not a boy. Seto, even at twelve, was willing to do anything to leave the orphanage and give a better life to her little brother, even pretending to be someone else.)
(Little did she know that in three thousand years things had changed little. A son was always worth more than a daughter, and the pharaoh's brother didn't know what to do with a girl. He abandoned his daughter without regrets, looking for another woman who could give him the son he wanted. Set had no choice but to pretend to be a boy to protect herself)

I have read fics with more realistic mental disorders than any other form of media. That on top of the stories being absolutely professional level
reblog if you’ve read fanfictions that are more professional, better written than some actual novels. I’m trying to see something

What’s sadder? Someone waking up to a future where all that’s left of their lover are the shrines and statues of them? The images of them that were made by those who worshipped but never truly knew them?
Or waking up to a future where your memory is the only proof they ever existed?

I really like how it turned out. I don’t consider myself an artist but this really felt worth the effort.
(Also, I adore this ship and everything with it so far! Consider me converted, as a Ram main!)

I have no idea if the community is still alive, but I’ve been slowly concerted toward Doomcio lately (as a lucio main of course).
So, naturally, my little hamster brain starts running. I wanna write a very specific fic about them but idk if anyone will read it. I’ll still do it, but I really do hope I haven’t missed my people.
The basic premise of this fic will be Talon taking Lucio not long after the re-call. They have a few files on his tech but after Lucio stole it back from Vishkar, Talon really wants to know what it can do. Besides, they’ve wanted that kid gone for a while.
So, they steal him during a mission or something. Moira then goes straight to work with her experiments while Sigma is left to figure out his tech, along with Sombra (idk who is more in character to be responsible for that).
Then -and this is the juicy part- Moira uses Pavlov’s dog style experiments to make it so Lucio CANNOT hurt Doomfist or allow anyone else to. His body reacts before his brain and he’s drawn to Doomfist immediately. She makes him physically and unknowingly emotionally reliant on his safety.
But unknowing tot hem, the same effect happens to Doomfist! He also CANNOT hurt lucio or allow him to be injured. Then starts the frustrating pull they both have physically but they still hate each others guts for lots of reasons.
It’s not the most healthy relationship ship, but it’s the start of this fic, so I’ll work more on how it develops. It may never be healthy, but I highly doubt that’s why the Doomcio fans are here to begin with. It’s juicy and opposites attract Toba dangerous level!

HERE IT IS!!
I may update twice a week, depending on when I have time to edit the sections. But I want to emphasize, this is a SLOW BURN! As in, a very light simmer all the way through! It’ll get to the juicy bloodweave very soon, I promise!
I’ve been working on a Bloodweave fic lately where Gale blows up just after Act 2 (you know which part) and gets sent back to the beginning to fix his mistake.
I don’t have much to show at the moment, but it’ll be a very slow burn type story. It starts with one-sided Gale x Tav (on Gale’s side) and then turns into Bloodweave.
If anyone wants some snippets and wips, just ask!
