OK BUT WHAT IF-

Cars 3 villain/rookie swap au:

In which Jackson and Cruz switch places.

Cruz is the next gen rookie. In which she appears very friendly and nice at first. Taking selfies with the little kids, having that incredibly perfect smile, even having nice small talk with Lightning. As we near the Florida 500 however, when Jackson replaces McQueen in the race, we can see her crack, see her break down. She shows her true colors as a manipulative b*tch who pretended to be nice to get close to people.

Jackson on the other hand, isn't a trainer, but instead is training to be a racer, whom Sterling has selected to replace Lightning. As Lightning and Jackson train, we discover that Jackson's incredibly insecure about racing, and never wanted to replace Lightning. He was told by Sterling that Lightning purposely stepped down, before Lightning even met the guy. And thus, took Jackson in to train, despite Jackson not being confident about driving down an actual race track. (He's used to ESports)

Idk, I came up with this after reading a fic where Doc and Chick swap places. I'll link it when I find it again.

Random Cal headcanon if it’s not already sort of canon. Cal Weathers was orphaned at a young age and was raised by his uncle, The King and his wife.
