We went to Greasby's auctions. It didn’t take long to find a luggage tag still attached on one of the cases. It had a name, ‘Teresa’, along with a phone number and a town, which we researched and it was in Madrid. Rosie found out the Spanish area code and called the number. Teresa answered, and luckily spoke enough English to understand and communicate with us.

We created an airport check in desk for the crit to show how the bag would work. The bag itself is the bag tag so would have less chance of being lost.

This bag would be sent back to Teresa on the Madrid flight.

Teresa had lost her bag because the luggage label had been ripped off somewhere in the airport once it had been checked in. This had caused Teresa some emotional distress, as her favourite ornamental hedgehog was in the bag, which he had picked up on a trip to Preston to see her aunt. We therefore decided we needed to create a bag that would mean this wouldn't happen again.

A recording of picking up the memory card to try and recover the data off the cards. Unfortunately there wan’t a great deal of interest on them. It was definitely worth an attempt. We could have gone to boot sales and got more, however we decided to move past this route back onto lost luggage.

I remembered that I had picked up some memory cards a while back from a lady on Freecycle. I emailed her and asked if she had any more. She emailed me back very promptly and said that I could pick up some more which she didn’t need. We ran data recovery software on them to see what we could find! It wasn't wildly successful...

We found another auction room in North London for that day. We rang the auction house and they said they were on the first few lots, so we took our chances and headed to North London. Despite the woman on the phone telling us that the luggage definitely wouldn't be sold before 11am, it was. Rosie spoke to the owner of the auction house who told us the best place to buy lost luggage was at Greasby's auctioneers in Tooting.

Whilst looking round however, we came across a Sony A9v camera which was worth about £2000. It turned out it had been seized in a police raid, along with lots of other expensive technology such as Macs and PCs. This got us thinking about the data that could potentially be left behind on these kinds of items, and if we could somehow steal the data? We spoke to an assistant who told us that the police are very careful to destroy any evidence of the old owners, and so there was no chance of getting anything like this from this auction room. We could potentially go to charity shops or boot sales to get memory cards, usb etc because they are less regulated.

After an intense research session, we found out how we could get lost luggage, which led us to, the same day, going to an auction house in Guildford. Unfortunately by the time we got there, the luggage had already been sold, but it was still a very interesting experience.
