I have a feeling the top Femslash ship of Breath of the Wild is going to be Zelda and Urbosa.

Zelda is 17 and Urbosa’s age is ambiguous but I’m pretty sure she’s an adult so no. I really hope not.

We Need to Talk about Breath of the Wild’s Racism

a.k.a. “Wah, wah, the brown girl is oppressing me because she dares talk about a serious issue that she noticed when she was 7″

This is going to be an entire breakdown of every racist piece of shit thing going on in botw and believe me, there’s a lot of it. In fact, my brain feels like it’s going to herniate through the base of my skull from how oblivious people are to this. Then again, what do I expect from a fandom that’s continually been exotifying the Gerudo and calling it “empowerment” for the last 2 years? This is the same fandom that jumped on Jim Sterling for giving botw a good score but not a good enough score, so apparently it’s littered with people who can’t stand anyone criticizing their favorite video game.

Note, that the Gerudo have both “Middle Eastern/South Asian” and black coding, so the stereotypes for those two things will overlap in this analysis. (I am not black, so I won’t go too much into the anti-blackness here)

Also, I’m aware the creators of this game are Japanese, for those of you who come crying to me about how “they’re not white! they’re Japanese! they can’t be racist!!! *sad boner*” and if you honestly think that I’m as uneducated as you that I wouldn’t know the goddamn creators of the franchise I’ve been playing since I was seven, and you really think that Japanese people can’t be racist well…this conversation is entirely too advanced for you.

And lastly, note that this is supposed to be a concise criticism (and it’s still so long, oops) so I will cover every topic, but I won’t go into every detail (ie. going into every line of dialogue from every NPC).

It would probably be helpful to read this first, and perhaps go through my Gerudo tag.

Anyway, here we go.

I decided that I wanted to try Inktober, but I didn’t have my supplies with me so I just used my aunts ballpoint pens. That counts, right?

Anyways I love Midna, but unfortunately I have a really hard time drawing her.

Halloween Midzel

Chooses the pumpkin: Zelda found the perfect one; by tripping over it.

Carves the pumpkin:Midna insists on showing off her knife skills… which end up being nonexistant, as the resulting face looks, at best, cartoonish.

Gets scared and clings the other in a haunted house: Midna fakes it a couple times for a laugh, and Zelda rolls her eyes… until she (Zelda) gets scared for real and ends up practically jumping on Midna for safety.

Matching costume idea: Daphne and Velma

Makes a cozy bed-fort to cuddle in: Midna starts it, hoping for it to be a surprise, only to end up being surprised herself when Zelda starts helping out of nowhere.

Steal’s the other’s candy: Midna keeps reporting on kitchen emergencies that aren’t really happening because by god, she WILL get her hands on the Kit-Kats.

Accidentally gets lost in a corn maze: "I’m very good with mazes!“ Proclaims Zelda, who gets lost about ten minutes in. She never lives it down.

Tells spooky stories to scare the other: Midna starts it when the power goes out during a storm. It ends up turning into a competition, and when the lights come back on, they shut them back off and resume storytelling.

Collects cool-looking leaves: Zelda, who ends up pulling cheesy but sweet lines comparing it to Midna’s hair.
