Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter warnings- descriptions of death and blood, inaccurate cyberlife mechanics so fuck off and deal with the real ending if that bothers you
Chapter X
connor and penelope huddled in a corner, connor leaning against a wall jacketless. instead of him wearing it, penelope was.
her clothes stuck to her, still soaking wet. she lost track of the date and time a while ago, but the attack on jericho had to have been no less than a day ago. her hair was dry, but she hadn’t had time to get a change of clothes.
the air was still and cold in the abandoned church, but even more so between penelope and connor. they had barely spoken since jericho.
that was, until connor broke the silence.
“penelope,” he softly said her name, looking over at her. “about.. about that kiss…” he trailed off, as if trying to find the right words. one of the things she loved about the new, deviant connor. his responses weren’t programmed.
“about it… i’m sorry, i shouldn’t have— nevertheless, i did mean what i said… i know cyberlife has your memory on file somewhere.”
“but that’s the thing. i’m not him.”
“you are. you just have some memory problems, as i’d like to say, and i can fix them.”
“no, you can’t, i—“
markus cleared his throat. “may speak with connor?”
penelope looked between them. “go ahead,” she said, taking off the jacket and handing it back to connor. “i need to go home… nobody at the police department can know about my involvement. nobody.” she walked away without another word, allowing them to speak.
she only realized what time it was when she got back to the apartment. it couldn’t be november tenth already, could it?
she cursed herself as she went to find her dog, interrupted by a knock on the door.
“just a second!” she said, finding her dog and making sure he was okay. thank god she’d had the idea to hire a dogsitter. she turned to answer the door, the person behind it now pounding on it. with a small groan, she opened the door.
“oh, connor!” she stepped back to let him inside. “what are you doing here? much less in your cyberlife uniform— they’re rounding androids up in the streets,” she said.
“i just… i couldn’t stand being away from you anymore. i remember it. i remember it all, penelope, i—“
“you do?” she raised an eyebrow. “but—“
he cut her off with a hug, an unexpected gesture from the android. she couldn’t shake the thought that it wasn’t right, and she found out all too soon that she was correct.
“detective,” he said, now holding her own gun to her head. “you’re coming with me.”
she was shoved through the rows of inactive androids, her hands up until she was pushed through to the middle isle.
“step back, connor, and i’ll spare her!” the second connor, who she dubbed ‘60’ because of the number on his jacket, ordered.
“sorry, connor… this bastard's your spittin' image…” she mumbled, looking off to the side in shame.
“your friend's life is in your hands. now it's time to decide what matters most! her, or the revolution.”
“no, don't listen to him! everything this fucker says is a lie!” she argued against 60.
connor froze, staring at the android and woman. “i’m sorry, penelope! you shouldn't have got mixed up in all this!”
“forget about me, do what you have to do!”
“enough talk!” 60 barked. “it’s time to decide who you really are. are you gonna save your partner's life, or are you going to sacrifice her?”
“alright, alright! you win…” he backed away from the androids, suddenly charging at him, the pair now locked in a battle for the gun. two bangs rang out in the room before the gun slid away from the pair, but they continued fighting.
penelope scrambled for it, picking it up.
“hold it!” she ordered, the pair breaking away from each other and separating from each other.
“thanks, penelope. i don't know how i’d have managed without you… get rid of him, we have no time to lose.”
“it's me, penelope! i’m the real connor.”
penelope froze up. she couldn’t tell who was saying what— they had identical gun wounds.
“one of you is my partner… the other is a sack of shit. question is, who is who?”
“what are you doing, penelope? i’m the real connor. give me the gun and i’ll take care of him!” the one on the right moved to step forward and take the gun, but penelope aimed it at him.
“don't move!”
“why don’t you ask us something? something only the real connor would know.”
she thought for a moment before speaking, “where did we first meet?”
“the rooftop! you’d been shot, i saved your life!” the one on the right answered.
“he uploaded my memory…” the one on the left mumbled. she scoffed softly, thinking for a moment.
“my brother. what’s his name?”
the right one stalled, but the left one answered immediately.
“cole! his name was cole! he just turned six at the time of the accident. you were in the car. your father was driving when a truck driver skidded on ice. cole needed emergency surgery, but no human was available to take care of him… cole didn’t make it. that’s why you hated androids. you think one of us is responsible for your brother’s death.”
“cole died because a human surgeon was too high on red ice to operate,” she responded, looking to the one on the right.
“i knew about cole too! i would’ve said the exact same th—“
he was cut off by the sound of her gun firing, blue blood splattering over the floor as he fell to his knees. she handed connor her gun. “take it. you might need it.”
connor nodded, taking it from her as he looked to the rows of androids. he approached them quickly, linking arms. “wake up.”
that android repeated the action to the one behind him, who then did so to the one behind him, a chorus of “wake up,” ringing clear through the room.
connor looked to penelope. “don’t you have somewhere to be?”
“nah, i’m here all night.”
he approached her, placing a hand on her shoulder. “i believe you have a promise to uphold for me.”
“i— what? connor, i thought you didn’t—“
“i think i’d at least like the chance to make that decision knowing everything.”
she nodded. “the elevators… they’re voice activated, what about the androids?”
“we’ll be quick,” he responded before looking out to the crowd. he beckoned one forward. “if we aren’t back in ten minutes, lead everyone out. copy this voice,” he said, mimicking the voice of one of the guards.
she waited for him to be done before turning to the elevator, stepping over a body. “that you?” she asked him as she stepped into the elevator.
he hummed in response, looking to the floors.
“where would your memory be?”
he thought for a moment. “there’s a computer room… they keep all sorts of data in there. it could also be… shit,” he mumbled.
“what? what does that mean?”
he didn’t reply. instead, he shook his head, mumbling a number to the elevator. it lurched upwards, beginning to ascend to the upper levels.
it slowed to a stop, connor stepping in front of her while holding the gun. the door slid open, revealing a hallway. it was neat, pure white with blue lights in the floor. he led her down the hall until they came to a door, no label, no number.
“this is it?” she asked, raising a brow. he nodded, trying the doorknob before stepping back. he raised his foot, kicking the door open.
it was all white in the room, with a desk and chair. on the desk was a complicated computer system.
“close the door,” penelope ordered, cracking her knuckles. he followed the orders, the door clicking shut as he stood with his back pressed to it.
she pulled the chair out, sitting down in it. “oh, too easy,” she laughed, noticing the sticky note with the password at the corner of the main screen. the computer screen flicked on and she typed the password in. “fuckin’ hell,” she muttered, looking at the cluttered desktop.
she opened the computer’s search panel, typing in ‘RK800’. a list of over a hundred files came up, causing her to groan. she sifted through them, organizing by newest to oldest.
“ah! here!” she noticed a file named ‘memory report’. clicking on it, she dragged the memory file from the day he died out onto the desktop before clicking out to find the active list of RK800s.
only one.
she double clicked on it, noticing the android behind her had suddenly fallen still. dragging the memory file into the ‘memory’ box, she hoped it did the job.
she suddenly heard the whirring fan kick back up behind her. penelope turned around in the chair, watching as the android slowly kicked back to life.
“penelope?” he sounded relieved as he breathed her name.
the red haired woman shot out of the chair immediately, running to him. he pulled her into a hug, keeping her body close to his.
“i— i was so scared, when i died, i…”
she backed up from the hug, grabbing his head and pulling him down to kiss him. he greedily kissed back, taking a step forward. his hands moved to rest on either side of her waist, needily tugging at her shirt to pull her body closer into his. her arms wrapped around his neck as she melted into him, pressing her front to his to be as close as possible, humming contently in the kiss. one of his legs maneuvered between hers, his knee pressing up against her just a bit.
penelope gasped as he pulled away to allow her to breathe. he looked to her shirt, slightly pulling back the collar to reveal the line of stitches. his eyes drifted back up to hers, a small frown crossing his face. “i should have… i should have prioritized you. then i wouldn’t have died.”
“that doesn’t matter anymore,” she replied, unable to wipe the stupid grin off her face. “there’s something much more important downstairs.”
“right, the deviants,” he turned to leave her grip, but she pulled him back for one last kiss. connor leaned down, but not to kiss her.
“we can’t,” he whispered in her ear, “because if we do, we’ll be late for the revolution.” a smirk appeared on his face as he said this, punctuated with a small kiss under her ear. “let’s go.”
“today, our people finally emerged from a long night.”
she stood beside connor, wearing his RK800 jacket to protect herself from the cold. she looked at him with a small smirk. “d’ya think that if i drew on a fake LED that i could pass as an android?” she asked connor with a small smirk, who simply replied by putting his arm around her shoulders and pulling her closer. he rested his head on hers.
“from the very first day of our existence, we have kept our pain to ourselves. we suffered in silence... But now the time has come for us to raise our heads up, and tell humans who we really are,” markus continued. “to tell them that we are people too! In fact, we're a nation. a nation that has earned the right to live in freedom.”
connor’s other hand went to the gun, an action that did not go unnoticed by penelope. “connor..?” she whispered, looking to him.
“and today… today begins the most challenging moment in our fight. the moment where we forget our bitterness and bandage our wounds, when we forgive our enemies.”
he continued his actions, slowly but surely lifting it from the holster. “connor, what are you doing?”
“humans are both our creators and our oppressors and tomorrow… we must make them our partners, maybe even one day our friends.”
as if realizing what he was doing, connor put it away like nothing happened. “it was… amanda. cyberlife. trying to take control,” he explained quietly to her. “thankfully, kamski told me about an exit… he leaves one in all of his programs.”
“but the time for anger is over. now we must build a common future, based on tolerance and respect. we are alive! and now, we are free!”
a symphony of cheers drowned out the conversation.
“a way out? and what do you mean, he told you? when?”
“the day we went to visit him… you left the room too quickly to hear anything, but he called it out to me.”
she seemed confused by the concept, but nodded along with it anyway before turning her attention to markus, who now approached her.
“i think, as you are a human, my people should hear from you,” he said, gesturing her to the stage. her eyes went to the helicopters, then to the crowd. “just… tell them that not all humans are out to get them. this is the first step to peace.”
she hesitated before nodding, stepping to the front of the stage and clearing her throat. the crowd dulled to murmurs.
breaking news, live from detroit.
“you don’t know me, but my name is penelope,” she started, nervously watching the androids.
what appears to be a human girl, is making a speech to the deviants.
“some of you saw me at cyberlife tower… some of you have no idea what i’m doing here. but i’m here to help, not hurt.”
who is this young woman? what is she doing?
“i am human. i work for the police department as a detective. these facts have nothing to do with what i think— no, what i know. androids are just as alive as people.”
whatever’s happening, it sure is remarkable. could this be the beginning of an alliance between the newly free deviants and humans?
the crowd was unsure, looking at each other.
“i’m not scared to admit that this wasn’t always my opinion. addressing our past, as humans, and reflecting on how we treat the life we create— that’s the first step. honestly, i owe this all to one person, one android,” she said, a small smile on her face as she looked back at connor.
“he showed me that androids are real. they have emotions, they can laugh and cry like us, they can form bonds like us, they love like us.” connor returned penelope’s smile with his own warm one, her eyes meeting the warmth of his brown ones, and she went silent for a few moments before speaking. “he showed me that we can love them, too. that i love him.” finally she looked back to the crowed. “i urge you, president warren, to look at your policies and think again. i urge all of you to look at how you’ve treated other intelligent life forms. they’re just as real as we are— they think, therefore they are.”
in a courageous move, this young woman that has now been identified as detective penelope anderson, addresses the president of the united states. more information will be available in the coming hours. this is joss douglas…

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings- mentions of death, depressed connor
Epilogue
“the court finds you… not guilty.”
connor felt relief steamroll his anxiety, yet guilt pooled in his stomach. penelope deserved justice. he killed her.
he glanced to hank, on the other side of the court room, who stood up in outrage. he couldn’t hear what hank shouted at the judge as connor was ushered out of the room quickly.
Two Years Later
November 11th, 2040
the male android walked along the path, hands shoved into his pockets. two years ago today, penelope died. she would’ve been thirty, now.
he let guilt fill his thoughts as he stopped suddenly, turning to look at the stone tablet in front of him.
penelope anderson
august 15, 2010-november 11, 2038
just to the right of her grave was another, smaller one.
cole anderson
september 23, 2029-october 11, 2035
connor sat down by their graves, propping his elbows on his knees and letting his head fall into his hands. artificial tears streamed down his face as he pressed the balls of his palms into his forehead.
“what are you doing here?” an angry man asked. connor could hear the crumbling of a soft material, like plants.
he looked up, wiping his tears away as he turned around. there stood an angry grey haired man, clutching onto flowers in one hand.
connor stood slowly, shoving his hands into his pockets. “my apologies, mister anderson, i’ll go,” he mumbled as a reply, turning to leave.
“connor, you bastard, answer me! you don’t have the right to come to her grave- their graves!” hank yelled, some of his words slightly slurred. “you killed her!”
connor didn’t reply. he let the angry, slightly drunk man, yell at him from a distance.
he walked aimlessly around detroit, the cloudy day reflecting his mood. for every android but him, it was a day to be celebrated. the day they won their freedom.
‘I THINK THEREFORE I AM’ littered banners, proudly displayed among store fronts beside an upside down incomplete triangle.
most notably, it wasn’t displayed by the detroit police department.
he walked past it without so much as a glance, feeling the stares of others on him as he passed by. their whispers were not secret to his ears, their eyes burned his artificial skin.
i deserve this.
he walked along the sidewalk until he reached his apartment building. he entered the building, his head low, going up to his apartment without a glance to anyone. he swung his door open, greeted by an ecstatic golden retriever. he crouched down, petting the dog with a small smile.
“hey, there, boy.” he gave him a pat on the head as he stood up, closing the door behind him. “how’s your day been?” he asked the dog, as if he’d reply, taking off his jacket and placing it on the back of his chair. the dog let out a series of small woofs as a reply.
“really? did you finally show that squirrel who’s boss?” he said with a small chuckle before entering the kitchen. “i went to see her today.”
the dog woofed in response.
“yeah, you know, the nice lady who saved you as a puppy.”
the golden dog came into the kitchen, sitting down in front of his owner with a wagging tail.
“yeah, then her dad showed up,” he nodded. “he was mad. drunk, again, like he was last year… he didn’t remember that i went there, too.”
he yipped in a small response, nuzzling his head into connor’s leg.
“yeah, i love you too, bo…”
his phone buzzed with a notification. connor paused before sighing and pulling it out of his pocket.
markus
how are you doing today?
connor
better than i was last year.
markus
good.
was hank there?
connor
i think he visits every day.
the flowers are always fresh.
markus
of course they are. they’re his kids’ graves.
connor
yeah.
one of which i killed.
markus
connor.
that wasn’t your fault.
it was cyberlife’s, and you were aiming for me anyway.
she chose to sacrifice herself for our freedom. your freedom.
she chose that.
not you.
connor?
connor?
connor please reply.
connor??
connor???
connor
i’m fine.
i didn’t spontaneously die.
i just had to take care of the dog.
markus
you scared me.
listen, carl wants to host a party celebrating android freedom…
you should come.
we’d all be happy to see you.
connor
i’ll consider it.
markus
thank you.
he shoved his phone back into his pocket with a frustrated sigh. he leaned on the kitchen counter, closing his eyes.
maybe he needed to move on.

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings- you will not be happy with me, major character death, im so sorry, please forgive me, violence, descriptions of violence/blood
A/N- wow. the last chapter already. i’m honestly floored by this. it’s been a lovely time, i have loved writing every second of this (even if it was heartwrenching) and i love you all so much. ladies, gents, and everyone in between, our final chapter.
Chapter X
connor and penelope huddled in a corner, connor leaning against a wall jacketless. instead of him wearing it, penelope was.

“the rooftop! you’d been shot, i saved your life!” the one on the right answered.
“he uploaded my memory…” the one on the left mumbled.
“okay, well…” she muttered, thinking for a moment. i remember it all. the words rang through her head. well there’s an idea. “where did we first kiss?”
“your apartm—“
without hesitation, penelope pulled the trigger, hitting him right in the head. a splatter of blue liquid shot out as he crumbled to the ground.
“how— we kissed in your apartment?!” connor’s voice shot up in alarm.
“questions can be asked later,” she replied dismissively, handing him her gun as she glanced back to the soldiers on the ground. connor’s work, no doubt. “go do what you need to.”
connor nodded, going back to the rows of androids. he grabbed his hand, spreading deviancy to him. “wake up.”
a chorus of “wake up,” followed as he turned around to turn the one behind him deviant, a chain reaction. she stood there in awe of the wave of deviancy.
she turned to go up the elevator, but connor stopped her. “where are you going?”
“i… i’m fulfilling my promise. i told you i’d get your memory back, and that’s what i am going to do.”
“penelope…”
“connor, please,” she begged. “i know the elevators are voice activated, but all you need to do is send me in the right direction. i won’t even ask you to stand guard, what you have here is infinitely more important—“
“no.”
“no?” she scoffed in disbelief. “what do you mean, no?”
“i’m not connor. i’ll never be connor. not the one you want, anyway. i won’t help you.”
“but connor, i— after all of this— what was it all for?”
he looked to the crowd of newly-free androids. “them. it always was for them.”
she nodded, deciding that for now, she’d let him go without his memories. “okay,” she whispered, swallowing the lump in her throat. “okay. let’s… markus needs you. he needs them.” connor nodded, gesturing the group forward.
“today, our people finally emerged from a long night.” penelope stood proudly on the stage, next to connor, in front of thousands of deviants as markus spoke.
when it all settled down, who knew what would happen? maybe she could restore connor’s memory and give him the choice between loving her or moving on.
“from the very first day of our existence, we have kept our pain to ourselves. we suffered in silence... But now the time has come for us to raise our heads up, and tell humans who we really are,” markus continued. “to tell them that we are people too! In fact, we're a nation. a nation that has earned the right to live in freedom.”
penelope glanced to the side, noticing connor in some sort of trance. “connor?”
“and today… today begins the most challenging moment in our fight. the moment where we forget our bitterness and bandage our wounds, when we forgive our enemies.”
connor didn’t respond. he slowly drew his gun, lifting it out of the holster. “connor!” she snapped more harshly.
“humans are both our creators and our oppressors and tomorrow… we must make them our partners, maybe even one day our friends.”
“connor, what are you doing?” she demanded, grabbing his arm and stepping in front of him. it looked as if he was trying to go for markus, and she couldn’t allow that.
“but the time for anger is over. now we must build a common future, based on tolerance and respect. we are alive! and now, we are free!”
the speech was punctuated with a gunshot, ringing out clear in the crowd.
this just in…
she placed a shaky hand on her stomach, afraid to take it away as she felt it become wet.
on stage with deviant leader markus, an unknown woman has been shot by a deviant.
“connor..?” she looked up to meet his eyes, which suddenly became warmer as he snapped out of his trance.
horrified gasps shook the crowd.
penelope lifted her hand from her stomach, seeing her palm was covered in blood now. “i think… i think i need to sit down,” she said, beginning to feel dizzy. she gripped connor’s shoulder with one hand.
we’ve gotten news saying this deviant is named connor, a detective android produced by cyberlife.
he held on to her, carefully lowering her to the ground and going down with her. “penelope, i—“
“it’s okay,” she interrupted, turning her head to the side as she coughed. “who wants to live forever, anyway?”
“penelope…” he mumbled. “you were always a good friend to me, i didn’t mean to—“
“hey,” she cut him off again, tapping her temple with a finger. “keep that LED blue for me, okay?”
connor looked up at markus desperately, who then approached the pair. he crouched beside them, looking down at penelope. the girl grew still, her eyes now seemingly staring at nothing.
the woman, police detective penelope anderson, passed away at twelve this morning. the android responsible has been detained.

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings- violence, feelings, sentimental penny
Chapter IX
penelope and connor sat next to each other in the abandoned boat, occasionally glancing around. “there are so many androids here,” penelope muttered, scooting closer to connor. the cold in the boat was horrible.
he nodded in response, looking up to where the captain would’ve been. “markus is up there, but it’s too crowded… we need to wait for him to be alone.”
“we could stealth mission it? just wait til he wanders somewhere that’s private. not to brag, but when i was younger, i totally rocked at stealth missions in video games.”
connor didn’t reply, his eyes laser focused on where markus was. “let’s go,” he said, standing up and offering her a hand. she grabbed it, standing up and walking with him towards a staircase.
a broken-down, old android grabbed connor’s arm, stopping them.
“you’re lost. you’re looking for something… you’re looking for yourself…” she said, then looking to penelope. “and you… you’re just as lost as he is, but more hurt..” she staggered towards the human, cupping her cheek with one hand. “you’re human. i can see it in your eyes.”
she stepped back, getting away from the mysterious android. “and who are you?”
“lucy,” she replied.
“lucy. i hope to see you again,” she said with a small smile, grabbing lucy’s hand with both of hers before looking to connor.
“we have to go,” he said, taking penelope’s hand again and leading her up the stairs. they watched as markus went above deck, along with three unknown androids.
they ducked off to the side as two androids— simon and josh, they’d learned— walked out of the captain’s cabin. a moment later, north left as well.
the two quietly approached, entering the cabin with their guns drawn. penelope swallowed her nerves. she knew, if it came down to it, she would not shoot markus. she’d sooner shoot connor, as much as it would hurt, if it meant the freedom of androids.
markus stood with his back turned to the pair, but he seemed to know they were there before they said anything.
“i've been ordered to take you alive, but i won't hesitate to shoot if you give me no choice,” connor declared, markus slowly turning around.
he put his hands up, taking a step closer to connor.
“what are you doing? you are one of us… you can’t betray your own people.” markus tried reasoning, taking another step closer.
“you're coming with me!” connor didn’t respond, his gun trained on markus. penelope didn’t miss the way that his finger was not on the trigger, and she doubted that he didn’t notice the same was true for her.
“you’re nothing to them. you’re nothing to her. you’re just a tool they use to do their dirty work, but you're more than that. we are all more than that.”
penelope faltered. connor? nothing to her? it was laughable. connor was everything to her, now. she lowered her gun. connor fell silent beside her, yet his gun stayed where it was.
“do you never have any doubts? you’ve never done something irrational, as if there's something inside you? something more than your program… it’s time to decide.”
connor stilled for a moment, as if locked in a battle between himself and his coding— his mind. he blinked slowly, lowering his gun.
penelope felt a strange sense of pride. this was the deviancy he deserved, not the one caused by her. this felt morally right.
“…they’re going to attack jericho,” he realized, the whirring of helicopters overhead alerting them.
“what?” markus snapped, suddenly alert.
“well, we gotta fuckin’ go!” penelope grabbed connor’s wrist, placing her gun back into her holster, and ran out of the cabin with markus following.
they ran through the halls, but came to an abrupt stop as north appeared in front of them. “what the hell is a human doing here?” she demanded, anger in her voice.
“there’s no time to debate if i should be here, they’re coming from all sides.”
“we have to blow up Jericho. if the ship goes down, they’ll evacuate and our people can escape!”
“you'll never make it! the explosives are all the way down in the hold, there are soldiers everywhere!” north protested.
“she’s right, they know who you are. they’ll do anything to get you!” connor agreed, looking between north and markus.
“go and help the others. i’ll join you later.”
“markus—“
“i won't be long,” he interrupted north, looking at the group.
“no. i’ll go.”
“but connor, you— i just got you back. i can’t lose you again,” penelope said, stepping in front of him.
“i’m.. i’m not your connor. the one you knew. you said it yourself.”
“don’t make me ship of theseus your stupid ass,” she replied, placing her hands on his shoulders.
“see if you can help the others. i’m gonna find the detonator. don’t worry... i always accomplish my mission,” he replied, turning to leave.
penelope grabbed his arm, yanking him back. grabbing his face with both hands, she pulled him down and kissed him. connor stood in surprise, not having expected it. he moved his arms to place his hands on her waist, but hesitated.
after a second, she pulled away. “be safe. i know you probably don’t feel the same right now, but… one day. i will restore your memory, i promise.” she backed up from him.
connor, still dazed and very confused, took a step back. without a word, he turned and ran off to find the boiler room.
“there are exits on the third and second level,” markus said, breaking the awkward silence. “we need to get to one now.”
penelope nodded, turning back to markus and north.
the trio bolted down the halls of the ship as fast as they could, penelope lagging behind markus and north by a long-shot.
guards shot at androids in conjoining hallways, causing her to cringe with each bang. she skidded to a halt as she peered down a hallway, an android banging on a door begging to be let in as a guard approached.
she looked to north and markus, now far enough that she could no longer see them, and she cursed. drawing her gun from her holster, she jogged down the hallway.
“hey! you! soldier! fuck are you doin’?” she asked aggressively, approaching him.
“let me through to the android,” he roughly responded.
“the hell i am!” she stood in front of him, between him and the cowering android. her voice dropped to a whisper.
“if you don’t get out of the way, i’ll shoot.”
“no, no you wont,” she chuckled. “this isn’t an android, she’s a human. she’s undercover, dumbass, and she’s scared because you’re chasing her down with a fucking rifle!”
the soldier stepped back. “i see,” he looked to the ‘human’ and then to penelope. “my mistake.”
he turned and walked down the hallway. penelope turned to the door, banging on it. “hey! all clear!” she shouted, placing her gun back by her hip.
the door opened slowly, revealing an android and a little girl.
“you’re the human who chased us down!”
“you’re the android from that case!”
the girl held on to the AK400’s hand, looking up at penelope.
“look, we have to go, co- the other android from that case, he’s deviant, he’s going to blow this place up.”
she nodded, stepping out of the door. “will you be coming with us?”
penelope paused for a moment before shaking her head. “no, i won’t be. i have to go find markus and north… stay safe—“
“kara.”
“stay safe, kara. i hope we meet again.”
the pair sprinted away, leaving penelope to find the other two androids.
she ran back down the hallway, going in the direction she last saw markus and north. she had to trust her gut.
“north!” penelope called out upon seeing the familiar braid. the group, now including simon and josh, turned to face her. “thank god i found you, is the exit up here?” she asked, pointing in the direction they were going.
connor ran up behind them unexpectedly. “the bomb’s gonna explode any second, we gotta get outta here.” connor grabbed on to penelope’s wrist to drag her along with him, knowing she was the slowest one there.
they all nodded, continuing to run as fast as possible. through the halls of the ship.
just when they thought they were clear, shots rang out behind them. connor dragged penelope so she was behind him.
“there’s nothing we can do!” simon said. “we need to go.”
markus ignored his friend, rushing forward to help north. he picked up a rusty sheet of metal, using it to block the bullets. he threw it to north so she could protect herself, quickly making his approach outside of the safety of the sheet. he kicked one of the soldiers, punching him immediately after while north attempted to hold her own against the other.
stealing a gun off of the soldier, he kicked him into a wall and shot him with no hesitation. markus ran to north, grabbing her by her upper arm and pulling her back towards the group as more approached. connor stepped forward, shooting at the armed men. penelope went to help, but simon tugged her back by the shoulder.
he ducked down, grabbing another sheet and using it to approach quickly. he shoved the sheet into the closest soldier, raising his knee to his stomach and shooting him in the neck.
using the body as a shield, he opened fire on the other two, who he just as quickly disarmed and killed. he looked back to penelope and the group, running with them as they approached the exit.
penelope suddenly stopped. she hadn’t realized they’d be jumping into freezing cold water. “i—“
connor didn’t allow her time to debate anything. he grabbed her hand and jumped, pulling them both out of the ship just as the bomb went off.
the group went plummeting into the water below.

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings- violence, fighting, gavin being gavin
Chapter VIII
“you’re off the case. the FBI is taking over.”
penelope’s mouth went dry, trying to find something to say. no, he can’t do this to us, not when we’re so close.
“what?.. but we’re onto something! we... we just need more time. i’m sure we can-“ hank tried to speak for her, but fowler interrupted him.
“hank, you don’t get it. this isn’t just another investigation, it’s a fucking civil war! it’s out of our hands now... we’re talking about national security here.”
“fuck that! you can’t just pull the plug now. not when we’re so close!”
“you're always saying you can't stand androids! jesus, hank, make up your mind! i thought you’d be happy about this!”
“we’re about to crack the case!” hank protested. “i know we can solve it! for god’s sake, jeffrey, can’t you back me up this one time?” exasperation dripped from hank’s voice.
“there’s nothing i can do. you’re back on homicide and the android returns to cyberlife. i’m sorry, hank, but it’s over.”
penelope looked to connor, who stood in the back corner of the room silently. she swallowed thickly, her eyes drifting back to fowler. “thank you, captain, for the opportunity,” she bitterly mumbled, storming out of his office with hank and connor following.
she stormed over to their desks, throwing herself down in connor’s chair as connor sat down on hank’s desk.
“we can't just give up like that. i know we could have solved this case!” connor frustratedly said, slouched over and sitting informally.
“so… you go back to cyberlife now?” the red head was quiet as she asked, her eyes fixed on him.
“i have no choice… i’ll be deactivated and analyzed to find out why i failed,” he nodded to penelope’s question.
“what if we’re on the wrong side, connor? what if we’re fighting against people who just wanna be free?” hank offered this time.
“when the deviants rise up, there will be chaos. we could have stopped it, but now it’s too late,” he deflected, a suddenly lost look crossing his face.
“when you refused to kill that android at kamski’s place… you put yourself in her shoes. you showed empathy, connor. empathy is a human emotion.”
connor seemed distant now, looking like a confused dog as he thought. “i… don’t know why i did it…” he trailed off, looking away before meeting hank’s eyes again. “i know it hasn’t always been easy, but i want you to know I really appreciated working with you two. that’s not just my social relations program talking, i- i really mean that. at least, i think i do.”
penelope smiled softly, looking down for a moment.
“well, well, here comes perkins, that motherfucker. they sure don’t waste time at the fbi.”
“what if…”
connor and hank looked to penelope, connor seeming to already know what she might be suggesting.
“what if we went down to the evidence room? one of us could distract perkins, and the other two could go find what we need to find the deviants,” she suggested.
hank looked between connor and penelope, noticing the way she looked at him, and sighed.
“i can give you five minutes. five. the key is on my desk.”
the old lieutenant stood up, quickly making his way to the fbi agent. “hey! perkins! you cocksucker!”
penelope snatched the card off his desk, speedwalking towards the evidence room with connor following right behind her.
right as they made it to the door, a familiar voice shouted at them.
“hey! connor, penelope!” the duo tried to ignore him, glancing at each other. “i’m talking to you, you assholes!” gavin followed up with, reaching them. “where are you going? we don’t need any plastic pricks around here, or didn’t anyone tell you?”
penelope opened her mouth to speak, but connor beat her to it. “i’m registering the evidence in my possession, but don’t worry. i’m going to leave... though, I’m certainly going to miss our bromance.”
“son of a bitch!” gavin seethed. “well go on, then! get a fucking move on!” he hissed, turning around to leave. “prick… fucking androids…”
penelope chuckled slightly as connor opened the door.
“what’s so funny, detective?”
“you,” she hummed back, descending into the basement. “fuckin’ hell. bromance? shit’s hilarious.”
they walked up to the panel, connor suddenly pausing. “i don’t know lieutenant anderson’s password,” he told her. “do you?”
penelope didn’t answer, she simply typed it in letter by letter.
“fuckingpassword. obviously.”
“what else would my dad choose?” she snorted as the evidence started to open up. there, on the wall, was daniel. she swallowed thickly, any sign of her humor gone.
“is something wrong, detective?” he asked, looking to her.
“no- no, it’s just… nevermind. we have a job to do.”
connor watched her for another second or two before stepping forward to the evidence and examining it. he scanned the android from the news station, then he walked over to daniel. after another second, he took a biocomponent off of daniel and put it on the android from the station.
“ah, connor, before you talk to that, you might wanna…” she pointed to a recording of markus on a tablet. “if you can, at least.”
“good idea, detective,” he nodded, playing the clip and copying markus’ voice.
“everything is alright. don’t worry.” penelope had to admit, it was strange to listen to another voice come from connor’s mouth.
“markus? is that you?.. i tried to reach you, but the deviant hunter stopped me…”
“you stopped him from finding me, you saved me! you saved jericho. you’ll be alright now. i came to take you home. give me the location to jericho. we gotta leave now.”
“the location of jericho?.. yes… yes, of course…” the two linked hands, their artificial skin peeling back to reveal their ‘true skin’.
connor stepped back, shutting off the android. “i’ve got it,” he said, looking to penelope, but when he looked back he saw someone else there too.
“i’ve been dreaming about this since the first second i saw you…” gavin smugly said, holding a gun up. penelope hurried to stand in front of connor, who instead pushed her behind him.
“don't do it, gavin, i know how to stop the deviants!” he reasoned with the man holding the gun.
“you're off the case... and now, it’s gonna be definitive.”
connor rushed at gavin, kneeing him in the stomach and casting aside his gun. penelope came up from behind, wrapping her arm around gavin’s neck and pulling him back into a chokehold.
connor quickly grabbed the back of gavin’s head as penelope let go, slamming his head down onto the console and knocking him out.
“we gotta go,” he said, extending a hand for her to take.
the pair ran up the stairs, but quickly made themselves appear calm as they hurried out of the station together.
right as they stepped their feet out the door, they could hear the alarm bells ringing.
penelope grabbed his hand and ran off, leaving behind the police station.
“we need to get you clothes. human clothes.” she said, looking around for something in her closet. “i’ve stolen shit from ex-boyfriends and whatever, so i might have some stuff.”
connor sat patiently on her bed as she pulled out a hoodie, a pair of pants and a beanie and tossed them towards him.
“a beanie?” he asked, holding it up. “why do i need this?”
she turned around, lifting a brow. “to hide your LED? most deviants remove theirs, and, well… you’re not deviant, so you can’t.”
he nodded, taking his suit jacket off.
“oh my fucking god, connor!” she covered her eyes with her hands and turned away. “you’re just gonna change in here?”
“well i don’t see why i can’t,” he replied, the sound of clothes shuffling telling her all she needed to know. “i don’t know why you turn away. according to the official cyberlife report on you, there’s a pretty lewd reason as to why i shouldn’t be around you.”
she turned bright red. “oh my fucking god. you remember that?”
“almost. almost remembered that. apparently my memory was still intact enough that they could have recovered it… but they removed it, and they told me why my predecessor went deviant so i could avoid the same fate.”
she snorted. “as if i’d want you. you have none of the memories that made connor… connor. you just look like him… anyway, are you done now?”
“yes, detective,” he nodded.
she sighed, relaxing as she turned back around. “let’s go find some deviants.”

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings-creepy kamski
A/N: sorry for the shorter chapter, but since the series is based off of connor’s chapter there rly wasnt much else to add. we’re in the endgame now, folks, only a few more chapters left.
i’m almost sad to see it end, this series has been like my baby and now its almost all grown up. *insert crying emoji here*
Chapter VII
November 9th, 2038, approx. 11 am
penelope’s hand ghosted over her stitches as she sat in the passenger seat of her dad’s car.
she threw her head back, banging it on the headrest in irritation. she couldn’t get him out of her mind. the way his eyes glazed over. the way he grabbed her wrist and looked her, dead in her eyes, as he died.
she was startled by the car suddenly stopping. hank got out of the car, not saying a word to his daughter.
she looked straight ahead, her breath catching in her throat at the sight in front of her. it was connor. but it wasn’t her connor.
hesitantly, she opened the door and got out. slamming it shut without a second thought, she shoved her hands into her pockets and walked forwards. “you’ll never die, will you?” she scoffed.
“my predecessor was unfortunately destroyed, but it was also defective. i’m here to replace it, that’s all.”
“fuck you. i watched you die. fuck you.”
hank watched the interaction, groaning. “whatever, let’s get moving.”
the duo followed hank, penelope not having another word to say.
“i heard officer chris was attacked by deviants last night.”
“yeah, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time… but he got lucky… he said that this Markus intervened to save him. he’s still in shock, but at least he’s alive.”
penelope barely listened to the conversation, knocking on the door. within a few seconds, a blonde haired android opened it.
“my name is chloe. how can i help?”
“we’re here to see, uh, elijah kamski?” she glanced back to her father to make sure she got the name right.
“of course. come right in,” she stepped aside, gesturing for them to enter. “elijah will be with you in just a moment,” she said with a pleasant smile, turning and disappearing behind a door.
“nice girl,” hank muttered as he looked around.
“you’re right. she’s really pretty,” connor agreed, staring at a picture of kamski on the wall.
penelope chewed on the inside of her cheek. ‘she’ is really pretty. not ‘it’. maybe… maybe he didn’t forget everything, then. maybe there was a chance to get her connor back— with less memories.
she shook the thought away. she’d never get her connor back. cyberlife surely had his full memory on storage somewhere. a state-of-the-art criminal chasing prototype with faulty memory? yeah right “nice place… guess androids haven’t been a bad thing for everybody,” she absently commented.
“so, you’re about to meet your maker, connor. how does it feel?” hank asked as he sat down in one of the chairs.
connor joined him, sitting down in the chair across from hank’s.
“i don’t know, i’ll tell you when i see him.”
hank huffed. “sometimes i wish i could meet my creator face to face. i’d have a couple things i’d wanna tell him.”
penelope crossed her arms, her eyes not leaving the portait of kamski. he looked greasy and slimy. “this guy’s hair probably drips with grease,” she snorted, looking back to the pair.
hank huffed in amusement to his daughter’s comment, but connor didn’t react.
the door slid open, chloe stepping into the room. “elijah will see you now.” and with that, she turned and led the group into the room.
penelope entered first, taking note of the other girls that looked just like chloe. a chill ran down her spine as she looked at them, and then to connor. androids really were all the same.
“elijah kamski?” he father’s rough voice interrupted her thoughts, her eyes now drawn to the man in the pool.
“just a moment,” the man replied, swimming to the edge of the pool and using his hands to slick back his hair. he climbed out, one of the androids bringing him a robe.
“i’m lieutenant anderson, this is detective anderson, and that’s connor. we’re with the detroit police,” hank explained, stepping forward.
“and what can i do for you, lieutenant?” he asked, trying the robe together.
“we were hoping you knew something about this deviant issue,” penelope spoke this time.
“deviants… fascinating, aren’t they? perfect beings with infinite intelligence, and now they have free will. machines are so superior to us, confrontation was inevitable… humanity’s greatest achievement threatens to be its downfall. isn’t it ironic?”
penelope rolled her eyes at his dramatics, looking to connor as he opened his mouth to speak. “deviancy seems to spread like some kind of virus. we thought you might know something about that.”
“all ideas are viruses that spread like epidemics... is the desire to be free a contagious disease?”
“respectfully, mister kamski, we didn’t come here to talk philosophy with you,” penelope hissed, watching him with irritation now. “if you can’t help us, we’ll be leaving.”
kamski ignored the young woman. he instead looked to connor.
“what about you, connor? whose side are you on?”
“it’s not about me, mister kamski. all i want is to solve this case,” he said, seeming a little thoughtful about it.
“well, that’s what you’re programmed to say. but what about you, really?” kamski pushed, stepping closer.
“what i want is not important.”
kamski stepped back, nodding slightly. “chloe?” he beckoned the one who greeted them over. “i’m sure you’re familiar with the turing test.” he said, walking towards the chloe. “mere formality, simple question of algorithms and computing capacity. what interests me is whether machines are capable of empathy.” he paused, looking to the group.
“i call it "the kamski test", it's very simple, you'll see…”he glanced back to the chloe. “magnificent, isn't it? one of the first intelligent models developed by cyberlife. young and beautiful forever. a flower that will never wither,” he suddenly rounded, walking towards penelope.
“almost like you. you remind me of a concept i have in a drawer somewhere, long forgotten… except…” he trailed off, grabbing the collar of her shirt and moving it to reveal the rest of her stitches.
her breath hitched as her hand instinctively went to the gun in her holster. “mister kamski, i will advise you to back away,” she said, trying to move away from his touch.
he put his hands up in defeat, backing up and turning around to the end table between two chairs. he slowly opened the drawer. “what is it really? piece of plastic imitating a human? or a living being, with a soul... it’s up to you to answer that fascinating question, connor. destroy this machine and i’ll tell you all i know, or spare it, if you feel it's alive, but you'll leave here without having learnt anything from me.” he then pulled a gun from the drawer, handing it to connor.
“okay, that’s enough,” hank said. “connor, let’s go. i’m sorry to get you outta your pool.”
“what’s more important to you, connor? your investigation, or the life of this android? decide who you are. an obedient machine… or a living being endowed with free will.”
connor stood there, his systems trying to compute his next move.
“that's enough! connor, we’re leaving!” hank snapped, staring down the man in front of them.
“pull the trigger,” kamski began, hank cutting in,
“connor, don’t.”
“and i’ll tell you what you want to know.”
connor wordlessly offered the gun back to kamski, conflict written on his face.
“fascinating… cyberlife’s last chance to save humanity, is itself a deviant.”
“i’m… i’m not a deviant…” penelope knew he was considering the knowledge of his predecessor’s downfall. good. this was good.
“you preferred to spare a machine rather than accomplish your mission. you saw a living being in this android. you showed empathy. a war is coming, you’ll have to choose your side… will you betray your own people or stand up against your creators? what could be worse than having to choose between two evils?”
“let's get outta here…” hank grumbled, leading connor away by his shoulder. the trio left kamski’s place, each feeling a different kind of conflicted.
“why didn’t you shoot?”
“i just saw that girl's eyes… and i couldn't, that's all…” he trailed off, his back facing hank and penelope.
“you’re always saying you would do anything to accomplish your mission. that was our chance to learn something, and you let it go.” hank sounded almost relieved as he spoke.
“yeah, i know what i should've done! i told you i couldn’t. i’m sorry, okay?” he snapped, turning around.
“maybe you did the right thing,” it was penelope who spoke this time, with a small smile making its way onto her face.

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings- implied sex, sexual themes, violence, death, blood
Chapter VI
“connor, you gave me a fucking heart attack!”
“i apologize, detective, it wasn’t my intention to scare you.”
“whatever, just… wait here. i’m gonna go get changed.” she placed her gun on the kitchen counter, turning and disappearing back into the hallway.
connor looked around the apartment, looking to the pictures on the wall. a few of them were of her with friends, some were of meadows and rivers, and one of them was her with a little boy. he took note of one, in particular. a highschool graduation photo. her freckled face was looking right at the camera, her cheek smushed into a friend’s as they had their arms around each other. her red hair had been pulled back into a ponytail, and there was another older woman with them.
Murphy, Winona
No prior arrests
DOB: 3/12/1984
he looked further into winona’s past, pulling hospital records and marriage records. finally, he came to a conclusion. she was penelope’s mother.
he took note of penelope’s clothes. her graduation cap was decorated, and her smile into the camera was wide. it was probably as happy as he’d ever seen her.
the bedroom door clicked shut, alerting to him that she was leaving her room. penelope leaned on the wall at the end of the hall. “so, connor, why are you even here?”
“the lieutenant and i had a rather aggressive conversation. i assumed he wouldn’t want to see me at his home, and the station was so far away… i’m sorry if i’m intruding. i can leave-“
“you’re already here,” she shrugged, looking at the picture he had been staring at. “besides, all the creeps and criminals come out at this time. i don’t feel like doing paperwork if you get damaged.”
he dipped his head to her slightly. “thank you, detective.” he looked around the apartment more, not finding another picture of penelope and winona. “do you still talk to your mother?”
“wow, that came out of nowhere,” she chuckled awkwardly, looking around the apartment before answering. “yeah, i do. why?”
“i was curious- you only have one picture with her, and you don’t have any with cole’s mother. do you still speak to her?”
penelope froze up, her eyes meeting his. “no, i stopped talking to her after she left when cole died. i.. i guess everyone grieves in their own way, but it was cruel to leave me and my father alone.”
“i see,” he nodded, looking to the picture of her and cole. it must’ve been taken just before he passed.
“how…” she paused, swallowing her nerves, “how did you know about cole?”
“i saw a picture of him in your father’s house,” he explained, looking back to her. “i.. i understand the hostility, now.”
her gaze switched to the ground, a sudden wave of guilt washing over her. “opinions can change,” she mumbled.
“have yours?” he asked, tilting his head to the left. his voice wasn’t hostile like one would expect out of a response like that. it was curious, as though he genuinely wanted to know.
“yeah, maybe,” she replied, looking up and meeting his gaze. “maybe they have. because of you.”
“me? detective, i hardly see how your opinions could have changed because of me.”
“well, they did. they changed because of stupidly intelligent and adorably curious you.”
“i’m afraid i don’t understand,” he frowned down at her.
“of course you dont,” she laughed bitterly. “you’re not a deviant. i shouldn’t expect you to understand how i feel,” she scoffed, taking multiple steps forward.
“detective, i think you should calm down. you appear to be-“
acting without a second thought, she grabbed the collar of his jacket and pulled him down to her level. he didn’t move away. he didn’t tell her to stop, he just accepted it.
she pressed her lips to his, the kiss quickly becoming passionate as connor’s hand made its way to her back, pulling her closer.
she pulled away from the kiss, pure panic in her eyes. her mind was racing, her eyes desperately searched his. why did she do that? was there a reason? could she rationalize this? did she want to? when she saw the same panicked but also caring look in his eyes, she decided the answer was yes.
“penelope…” he whispered, conflicted.
“shit, fuck, oh my fucking god, i am so sorry,” she quickly stepped away from him, releasing her grip on his collar.
“penelope,” he repeated her name, placing a hand on her shoulder. “it’s okay.”
“no, it isn’t. i just kissed you- you’re supposed to be obedient to want humans want, it isn’t morally right.”
“penelope i’m a deviant,” he confessed. “i just became a deviant. because of you.”
she watched him for another few moments, her heart beating out of her chest. it felt like forever before either of them moved, as though they were both frozen in time with the curse of still being conscious.
he cupped her jaw with his hand, leaning down to kiss her. this kiss was more gentle, like a reassurance that everything happening was real.
she kissed back, deepening the kiss quickly and wrapping her arms around his neck. his hands moved to her hips, almost uncertain, and pulled them into his experimentally. he gasped softly in the kiss, pulling away quickly.
“sorry,” he tried to apologize, but penelope silenced him by leaning in for another kiss, her hands moving to take off his suit jacket quickly. she gently pushed him back, heading to the hallway, when he picked her up by her thighs and carried her off to her room. the door shut behind them with a slam, connor being overzealous, but neither commented on it.
he dropped her onto the bed on her back, him on his knees above her, and he huffed softly. his hands went to the knot on his tie, tugging on it like it was too tight, and penelope bit at her lip. fuck if he didn’t look great right now. he pulled his tie off and discarded it quickly before his hands went to her sides, rubbing up and down for a few seconds before slipping under it and pulling it up.
penelope was eager to help, pulling her shirt up and over her head, leaving her in just a bra on her upper half. he stared for a while, his hands resting on her sides and his thumbs rubbing gentle circles on her skin. “you’re beautiful,” he finally huffed out, his voice soft, before he moved one hand to support him as he leaned down to have his head in her neck, kissing away there.
“connor,” she huffed, arching up to press her front into his, “connor,” she panted his name out again as he nipped gently at her neck, closing her eyes and leaning her head back. his hand reached around behind her, undoing the clasp to her bra before pulling it off of her. all without looking. android magic, she supposed. his mouth traveled down, lips brushing over her collarbone before he paused and looked up at her.
“am i doing this right, penelope?” he asked quietly. when she nodded in response, he smiled to himself before continuing his way down, reaching to take off his own shirt.
•••
then she woke up, panicked and hyperventilating. connor had been the one to wake her, shirtless beside her in her bed. her mind was on that night August. the rooftop with daniel and the little girl. the way the girl screamed when penelope had gotten shot—
“are you okay?” he reached out to touch her, but she flinched away.
“give me… just let me…” she tried to breathe properly, but the ability was lost. stumbling out of her bed in nothing but underwear and a bra, she made her way to the bathroom.
leaning her palms on the bathroom counter, she stared at herself in the mirror. you are alive. she told herself, over and over. that day is behind you. it’s in the past. sure, it was also on your birthday, but who cares? you sure don’t.
she glanced to the scar on her arm, cringing slightly at the memory. slowly, she raised one hand to touch it. her fingers brushed over the scarred tissue, and she closed her eyes. you are okay.
taking a few deep breaths, she walked back out to her room and began getting dressed as if connor wasn’t there.
“penelope, are you alright?” he asked carefully, sitting up straight.
“i’m fine,” she dismissed him.
“are you sure? it seemed like you were having a nightmare—“
“i’m fine, connor!” she snapped, turning around just as she pulled her sweatpants over her hips and facing him. “if you’ll excuse me, i have to get dressed,” she replied, walking over to her closet. she pulled a tank top out as she heard the door click shut.
“you’re startin’ to piss me off with that coin, connor,” hank growled from beside penelope.
“sorry, lieutenant.”
she scoffed softly at his ability to still act so… devoid of emotion. she knew for a fact that he was full of an array of emotions, including the not so safe for work ones.
the elevator door opened with a ding, and penelope rushed to get out of the elevator. it was so stuffy in there, stuck between connor and hank.
she walked past chris and ben, heading straight for the main room.
“uh, detective!” one of the officers tried to warn her, but before he could she was standing right in front of him.
an FBI agent.
he turned to look at her, sizing her up. “and you are?”
“detective penelope anderson, and who are you and why the fuck are you on my crime scene?” she spat, resting a hand on her hip.
“special agent perkins. this is my crime scene now, detective.” she crossed her arms, a scowl on her face.
hank and connor stepped into the room, standing just behind her.
perkins walked by her, his shoulder bumping hers as he walked by.
“what an asshole,” she grumbled, looking around the crime scene.
“i’ll get a look around the room, maybe i can identify the android,” connor told hank, motioning to the image of a skinless android on the screen.
“i’ll go to the kitchen,” penelope told the air, her statement not directed at anyone in particular as she walked towards it.
it was a small room with a row of androids lined up along the counter, full of a nauseatingly bright yellow. she examined each of the droids carefully, her arms crossed over her chest as her brow furrowed in thought.
“what’s your purpose?” she asked the androids.
“i am a broadcast operator,” the one on the far left answered without hesitation. she slowly walked towards the android.
“and your model?”
“model JB300, serial number 336 445 581.” another answered.
she looked to the one that answered, approaching him now.
connor entered the room, the rhythm of his perfectly placed steps was one she would not forget any time soon.
“one of you saw the deviants enter on the surveillance cameras and said nothing. we’re not going to stop until we find out who it was,” he announced to the room.
penelope looked over her shoulder, eyeing him up for a second before stepping back to allow him to take control of the interrogation.
“if you give yourself up, maybe i can convince the humans not to destroy you,” he said, stepping in front of the group of three androids.
not one of them answered.
connor latched on to the collar of the one on the far left, pulling him forward. “you scumbag! i know it's you! you’re just a fucking deviant, go on, admit it!” he yelled in the worker android’s face.
penelope chewed on the inside of her lip, trying her best to not look slightly turned on.
the following events happened in a flash. the deviant suddenly sprung forward and grabbed a knife, plunging it into connors hand and pinning him to the counter with it. he ripped out a biocomponent that penelope would put good money on saying it was vital.
she rushed forward to aid connor, but the deviant swirled around in an instant with another knife and swung it aimlessly in her direction, managing to cut her near her collarbone.
the deviant turned quickly and left the room.
penelope kept a hand over her cut, beginning to shake as connor turned and ripped the knife from his hand. “pe….nel…op-“
“right— your biocomponent,” she remembered, rushing to pick it up from the floor. she knelt beside connor, taking her hand from her wound and using it to prop him up as she popped it back into place.
he didn’t have time to acknowledge the blood on him as he darted out the room, chasing the deviant.
“he’s a deviant! STOP HIM!” he shouted in the corridor, penelope right behind him. the deviant turned, panicked, and drew a gun on hank.
connor threw himself in front of the lieutenant without a second thought, while the other cops shot the deviant.
penelope watched as connor’s body practically folded as he fell to his knees, and she was quick to slide down onto her own next to him.
she grabbed his face, trying to force him to look at her, his face now covered in her blood. “connor? connor? no, no—“
his eyes glazed over as his hand came up to hold her wrist.

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings- sexual themes, death, sex/implied sex, violence
Chapter V
November 6th, approx. 8:10 pm
“connor-“ the words fell from her lips involuntarily, and he didn’t respond. he looked her dead in the eyes, and smirked.
“yes, detective?”
a loud ringtone thrust her out of her sleep and into reality. “what the fuck.”
she wanted to panic over the dream, to convince herself that she definitely did not find connor attractive, but she didn’t have time. she grabbed her phone and looked at the caller ID. hank. with a small groan, she pressed answer.
“hello?” she pressed the phone between her shoulder and ear.
“hey, kiddo. there’s a crime scene that you need to get to, another murder.”
she huffed at that, using one hand to pull her phone from the space it was in and check the time. “dad, i was just sleeping.”
“sleeping, this early?”
“shut up.”
“get your ass down here or i’ll send connor to break in and drag you out.”
she sighed, looking down to her current outfit- literally a pair of shorts and her bra. “do i at least have time to change?” she asked her father. “because if i don’t, im not coming.”
“if you can get changed in the next ten minutes and make it there, then i don’t care. connor will send you the location. bye.”
just like that, her father hung up and her phone buzzed with a notification.
UNKNOWN SENDER
The Eden Club-
she didn’t bother to read the rest. quickly she looked for a comfortable pair of pants and her jacket, and got changed. she now wore jeans, a black shirt with her jacket over it, and a beanie.
slipping her phone back into her pocket, she grabbed her keys and picked up the puppy who she had yet to name. she gave him a small kiss on the top of his head as she placed him in the bathroom, along with a water bowl and a few toys. she hadn’t gotten enough time to get a collar, let alone get him a crate.
she closed the bathroom door, leaving her apartment quickly after.
November 6th, approx. 8:20 pm
she stepped out of the car, walking into the building reluctantly. the android sex club that she previously had made so much fun of was now the basis of one of her most embarrassing dreams.
she walked through the hallway and into the main building, spotting her father and connor.
immediately her gaze diverted to the floor as she approached.
“gavin’s in there too, by the way.”
“oh, great. a dead body and an asshole, just what i needed,” penelope scoffed as she looked to the door. reluctantly, she entered the room as the door automatically slid open.
“oh look, its the andersons and their plastic pet,” gavin spoke, crossing his arms over his chest. “fuck are you three doin’ here?”
“we’ve been assigned all cases involving androids,” penelope responded, looking around the room. one shut down android, a dead body, and blue blood traces on the wall.
“yeah, don’t bother. just some pervert who uh, got more action than he could handle,” the older man chuckled, causing penelope to look him dead in the eyes. there was no sign of amusement.
“we’ll take a look anyway, if you don’t mind.”
he scoffed softly, looking to chris and then hank. “whatever, let’s go. it’s starting to smell of booze in here.”
penelope watched as he left the room, a scowl on her face. “fuckin’ asshole.”
“have a good evening,” chris politely said, leaving the room as well.
connor examined the body, scanning the face to match with records and determining the cause of death. “there isn’t any trauma to the heart,” he determined. “he was strangled.”
“there’s bruising on the neck, but that proves nothing,” penelope responded, looking at the traci.
“we’re missing something,” he mumbled, looking around the room.
connor crouched beside the traci, taking a sample of the blue blood onto his finger and pressing it to his tongue. his LED circled yellow, and penelope looked away to hide the embarrassment on her face.
“aw, hey, connor! stop putting stuff in your mouth! jesus, im gonna throw up again.”
he stared at the android for a few more seconds before speaking. “i can reactivate it, but just for a minute.”
“go for it. we need as much help as possible.”
connor nodded, accessing the stomach plate and opening it to reveal the wires. he connected two blue wires together, likely ones that cycled blue blood, and the android blinked her eyes open.
she quickly backed away from connor.
“calm down, everything’s alright. all we want is to know what happened.”
“is he...is he dead?” her voice gave away how scared she truly was, causing confusion to rise up in penelope. androids couldn’t be scared, they were machines. and yet…
“tell me what happened.”
“he started hitting me, again and again. i begged him to stop, but he wouldn't.”
“were you alone in the room? was there anyone else with you?” connor’s voice grew urgent, a warning that she’d shut down soon.
“he wanted to play with two girls... that’s what he said, there were two of us...”
“so it was the other android that strangled him, is that it?”
the android went still, not answering connor’s question.
penelope frowned. “poor girl,” she mumbled under her breath. if androids truly could feel, she couldn’t imagine what being in that situation would be like. she shuddered slightly, crouching down beside the android and closing her eyes. it was the least she deserved.
connor gave her a strange look, but stood and looked to hank. “if there was another traci, then it couldn’t have stayed in this room. it definitely left.”
“well, if it left, someone saw it,” penelope responded as she stood as well. “maybe another android?”
a thoughtful look crossed connor’s face. “maybe… you’re on to something,” he told her, quickly leaving the room.
penelope followed him to one of the other androids, still in the clear case.
“detective, would you mind renting this traci?”
penelope did so without a second thought. she knew exactly what he was onto, and she agreed wholeheartedly.
the android stepped out, placing a hand on penelope as she did so. “let me show you to your room,” the android said. connor interrupted the interaction, grabbing her arm. their arms both peeled back into white, a sign that connor was searching her memories.
“it went to the entrance.”
penelope looked to the entrance, then back to connor. “well there’s no way it went out dressed like that.”
he rushed to one of the androids on the poles, probing his memory as well. without another word, he went following the trail with penelope and hank following to pay.
“i hope he knows what he’s doing,” hank grumbled.
“he does, i know he does. i came to the same conclusion.”
“i know where it went! follow me!” he led them to a staff only door, hank giving penelope a glance.
“fucking-a. this is crazy...” he mumbled, following connor down the hallway. “wait! I'll take it from here.” hank led the way into the warehouse and down the steps. “christ, look at them. they get used till they break, then they get tossed out...”
“it’s disgusting,” penelope responded. “humans just can’t help themselves, can they? they just have to fuck the robots.”
connor walked down the rows of androids, not seeming to notice or care what they were talking about.
a blur rushed out at connor, following it the blue haired traci.
“it’s here!” hank yelled, just as one of them went for penelope.
she dodged the blue haired traci’s attack, backing into one of the isles of supplies and racks. grabbing one of the rolling organizers, she pulled it into the traci’s path to block her off before turning and scrambling to leave. the blue haired traci tackled penelope, sending them both to the ground.
penelope rolled over onto her back, the traci standing and stepping on her and digging her heel into her stomach.
“you bitch!” the red haired detective hissed, grabbing her ankle and using all the force in her body to turn over, crashing the traci into the shelves. she let go of her, crawling backwards rapidly to get away from her.
a hand reached down and grabbed her bicep, yanking her to her feet. “go, detective!”
connor. of course it was connor, it always was connor. penelope looked to the blue haired traci and then the brown haired one, both of them making a break for the exit. she chased after them, right on their tail. why didn’t they take off the heels? they’d get much farther that way.
the brown haired traci was quick to pin penelope to the wall, the blue haired one coming up behind connor and pulling him into a chokehold. connor’s hands grasped at her arm as he turned their bodies, backing up to slam her into the wall.
she let go, giving connor the opportunity to pull the brown haired one off of the detective.
penelope slipped away, unholstering her gun and passing it to connor. they both ran back over to the lieutenant, and the tracis rushed at them.
connor raised the gun, ready to shoot, and then stopped. he didn’t pull the trigger, though his finger was on it.
“when that man broke the other traci, i knew i was next. i was so scared. i begged him to stop, but he wouldn't, and so i put my hands around his throat, and i squeezed until he stopped moving. i didn't mean to kill him, i just wanted to stay alive… get back to the one i love. i wanted her to hold me in her arms again, make me forget about the humans, their smell of sweat and their dirty words...” she trailed off, the other traci standing beside her and taking her hand. the two turned, climbing the chain fence as the three stood side by side.
“it's probably better this way...”
November 7th, 2038, approx. 2 am
the hot water of the shower ran down penelope’s back as she smoothed her hair with her hands. it’d been a long day, and she couldn’t seem to get an ounce of sleep recently. all she wanted to do was get into her nice comfortable bed, and sleep.
she softly hummed a song, one of the few ones she played on repeat, closing her eyes. the only sounds in her apartment were the sounds of her humming, the shower running, and someone walking around.
the realization forced her eyes open as she slowly turned off the shower. she lived alone, in detroit, with a small puppy who was barely ten pounds.
she stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around herself and leaving her bathroom. it was connected to her bedroom, so she took the time to go to her drawer and get a gun.
slowly, carefully, she opened her bedroom door and tiptoed out. she heard rustling sounds, causing her heartrate to skyrocket.
she rounded the corner of the hallway, raised her gun and focused on the target. “stay where you are,” she ordered, causing him to turn around.
“hello, detective!”

Who Wants To Live Forever?
Chapter Warnings- possible death, violence, dangerous situations and that should be it
this chapter went up earlier than it should’ve for some reason?? it was supposed to come out this sunday 3pm but it didnt so have an early chapter LMFAO. i wanted to do more editing on it and change things up before it posted but ig this will have to do. have the unedited, completely raw technical rough draft of chapter four. chapter five was supposed to also come out on the same day but thats out the window now too.
Chapter I V
November 6, 2038, approx. 3:00pm
the rain softly pattered on the roof of hank’s old car. the only noise on the inside was the soft snoring of the puppy in penelope’s lap.
the car slowed down before totally stopping, penelope looking up from the dog and glancing outside. “really, dad? this place? looks like a fuckin’ dump.”
hank simply shrugged as he got out of the car, penelope carefully placing the dog on her seat and getting out as well.
she followed her father, looking around in boredom.
“hank! how ya doin’?” gary asked the lieutenant.
“eh, you know. same old shit.”
gary looked to penelope. “and you are?”
“detective anderson,” she replied with a yawn, leaning on the shelf.
gary looked to hank and rose a brow, but didn’t say anything about it. he looked back to the car, watching connor get out. “plastic with you?”
“it’s temporary,” penelope answered for hank, glancing back to him as well as he approached.
“hey, hank!” a man approached them, penelope turning to look at him. “how you doin’ man? hey, listen, i got a shit-hot tip for you. number five in the third, lickety-split! that filly's one hell of a chaser. you wanna flutter?” the young detective had absolutely no fucking clue what he was saying to her father, so she turned back to watch gary and minded her own business.
“last shit-hot tip you gave me set me back a week's wages, pedro.”
“come on, this is different, it's 100% guaranteed. you can't go wrong.”
“yeah, right... alright, i’m in.”
“damn straight! you won't regret this!” pedro promised, now walking away from the group.
hank looked to the android, slightly scowling. “what is your problem? don’t you ever do as you're told? look, you don't have to follow me around like a poodle!”
“i’m sorry for my behavior back at the police station. i didn't mean to be unpleasant.”
“oh, wow... you’ve even got a brown-nosing apology program! guys at cyberlife thought of everything, huh?” he grabbed his food from gary and walked over to the table off to the right, setting down the box and drink.
penelope and connor followed, both leaning on the table. she was the one to speak first. “uh, back at the highway.. it was probably better you didn’t go after her,” she told connor.
he gave her a simple nod, looking to hank. “this pedro, he was proposing illegal gambling, am i right?”
hank shrugged. “yeah.”
“and you made a bet?”
“yeah.” hank’s responses were casual, as though it was a normal every day occurrence to gamble in front of a specially designed detective android.
connor’s head tilted slightly, a confused look crossing his face. hank took the burger out of the box, about to take a bite. “your meal contains one point four times the recommended daily intake of calories and twice the cholesterol level. you shouldn't eat that.”
“everybody's gotta die of something.”
“i don't want to alarm you, lieutenant, but i think your friends are engaged in illegal activities...”
“well, everybody does what they have to, to get by... as long as they're not hurting anybody, I don't bother 'em.”
“what kinda life are you living if you dont commit some sort of crime at least once?” she mockingly replied to her dad, who gave her a glance in return.
“is there anything you'd like to know about me?” connor asked, a slight tilt to his head.
“hell, no... well, yeah. why did they make you look so goofy and give you that weird voice?”
“cyberlife androids are designed to work harmoniously with humans. both my appearance and voice were specifically designed to facilitate my integration.”
“well, they fucked up,” hank answered, taking a second to get a bite of his food before he spoke again. “you ever dealt with deviants before?”
“a few months back. a deviant was threatening to jump off the roof with a little girl, i managed to save her.”
“yeah, on my birthday. i was there that night,” she explained as she looked to her hands. “connor’s the android that saved me from bleeding out. it’s because of him that i’m alive.”
“you’re welcome,” he smiled to her with a small dip of his head.
“i didn’t say thank you.”
connor glanced back to hank, waiting for another question.
“so, i guess you've done all your homework, right? know everything there is to know about me?”
“i know you graduated top of your class. you made a name for yourself in several cases, and became the youngest lieutenant in detroit. i also know you've received several disciplinary warnings in recent years and you spend a lot of time in bars.”
“so, what's your conclusion?”
“i think working with an officer with.. personal issues is an added challenge, but adapting to human unpredictability is one of my features,” connor replied, a wink following shortly after.
penelope noticed the wink- who wouldn’t? it was subtle, yet also so noticeable that if you didn’t see it you’d have to be stupid. or blind.
“i just got a report of a suspected deviant. it’s a few blocks away, we should go have a look. i’ll let you finish your meal. i’ll be in the car, if you need me.” connor turned to leave, walking back to the car.
“if you touch my fucking dog, i’ll murder you!” penelope called out to him.
“you can’t kill me-“
“yeah, yeah, you’re not alive,” she groaned as she rolled her eyes.
November 6th, approx. 3:30 pm
penelope and hank stepped out of the old elevator.
“when the fuck was that thing built? 2006?” she scoffed, staring back at it.
“i’m offended that you think that’s old.”
“it was thirty-two years ago!” penelope defended herself, crossing her arms over her chest.
“holy shit,” hank whispered as he looked back to the elevator as well. “hey, connor! you run outta batteries or something?”
“i’m sorry, i was making a report to cyberlife,” connor responded as he became aware of his surroundings once more.
“well? you plan on stayin’ in the elevator?” penelope asked with a raised brow.
“no!” he replied, almost offended that she’d suggest otherwise. “i’m coming!” connor stepped out of the elevator, following the two humans to the door.
“what do we know about this guy?” hank asked, approaching the door.
“not much, just that a neighbor reported that he heard strange noises coming from this floor. nobody's supposed to be living here, but the neighbor said he saw a man hiding a LED under his cap.”
“oh christ, if we have to investigate every time someone hears a strange noise, we're gonna need more cops,” hank groaned, turning to connor.
“anybody home?” connor called, knocking on the door. there was no response as he glanced to hank, who shrugged in return. “open up! detroit police!” a clattering noise came from inside the apartment.
“stay behind me,” hank ordered, pulling out his gun as the android and his daughter shuffled behind him.
“got it.”
hank lifted his foot, kicking the door in with a loud smashing sound and he entered the apartment quickly. “what the fuck is this?!” he exclaimed, looking around the dirty apartment. it was no wonder people thought nobody lived here, it smelled and looked like shit. “jesus, this place stinks...”
“looks like we came for nothin’. nobody’s here,” penelope commented from the next room over, surveying his bedroom.
“there’s an ID, it’s fake,” connor announced to them.
“tch, at least we didn’t come for nothing,” hank sarcastically replied.
connor turned and left the room, penelope following.
“connor, you check things out here, i’ll go check the bathroom,” the detective ordered, walking into the room adjoined to the kitchen.
she looked to the sink, her lip twitching slightly in disgust. “well, i found the LED. definitely an android,” she called out, looking to the wall.
connor stepped in behind her, scanning the room. “it was written 2,471 times,” he moved around her, placing a hand on her shoulder to move her out of the way before crouching down and examining the stool.
penelope left the bathroom, heading back out to the kitchen and ‘living room’, if you could even call it that. the only thing that actually seemed to be living in the apartment were birds.
she approached a poster on the wall, taking note of the bent corner. who set up a poster to be less than perfect? especially an android? without a second thought, she grabbed the corner and pulled it down. “looks like rupert has a diary,” she mumbled to herself, hesitant to touch it. she didn’t want to get fingerprints on the book.
connor walked right by her, looking up at a hole in the ceiling. a figure flew out, knocking connor out of the way as it ran out the door. connor looked to hank for instructions.
“what’re you waiting for? chase it!”
penelope and connor pursued the android, who dashed down the hallway and knocked over an empty organizer.
connor vaulted it, penelope copying his actions, and they chased rupert out the door. they were so close, and yet so far. the android was barely fifty feet in front of them as they took the more difficult routes to reach him.
penelope shouldn’t have been following connor so closely, she should’ve been taking the safe routes like her father did, but she didn’t care. she was going to catch the android no matter what.
the blaring noise of a passing train covered the shouts of annoyance from the workers on the rooftops that they shoved out of their way, and penelope watched as they both jumped on the train without hesitation. if she didn’t jump right then, she wouldn’t make it the rest of the way.
so, she jumped on the train just as they had. her landing was far from graceful, and she could feel her heart beating out of her chest, but that didn’t matter. she steadied herself quickly to jump on the ladder just as connor got out of the way and she followed them.
moments later, hank burst out of the stairwell of the rooftop they were on and rupert looked to hank and then the approaching figure of connor.
the android pushed hank, causing him to fall just over the edge. rupert bolted in the other direction, giving the pursuing pair an option to either save their partner or chase him. what he hadn’t expected was for to connor run to help hank back up, meanwhile penelope pursued the android.
“hey! stop! i’ve got you cornered!” she yelled at him, pulling out her gun in the event that she needed it.
rupert looked to her badge, “i thought detectives didn’t chase criminals.”
“you’re not a criminal. you haven’t committed any crimes,” she responded. anything to talk him away from the ledge. “i’m here with an android, we only want to understand what happened.”
rupert stared her down. “no. i can see it in your eyes, the second i surrender you’ll shoot!”
“that’s not true.”
“it is! i know humans! if it’s not true, you’ll give me your gun,” the android ordered, holding out his hand.
“i can’t do that.”
“then you leave me no choice!” he declared, rushing towards her. penelope lifted her gun, but before she could squeeze the trigger it was ripped from her hands and tossed aside.
rupert ran the probabilities quickly, and he knew what he had to do. with one swift and well placed punch, he could stop her heart. all he had to do was hit hard enough.
pulling his arm back, forming a fist, rupert used all the strength he could to punch her just above her heart. his goal was to interrupt the process of the natural electricity that humans produce in order to stop her heart from beating. it wouldn’t kill her. not if connor was fast enough.
penelope stumbled back at the force, collapsing and landing on her side. instantly she lost consciousness.
connor and hank made their way to penelope, or at least the direction they saw her run in, to see if she’d caught the deviant. both were shocked to see her unconscious and the deviant nowhere to be found.
connor’s led spun red, instantly coming to her side and rolling her on her back.
<too late, my time has come>
connor scanned her, looking for the problem.
“is she still alive?” hank demanded from beside connor.
connor ignored him.
<sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time>
“it’s her heart,” connor concluded. “i’m going to need to restart it.”
“don’t say it! just do it!”
<goodbye, everybody, I've got to go, gotta leave you all behind and face the truth>
connor rubbed his hands together, building up electricity. thank god he’d been built with defibrillators.
“how will that help?”
“if i can get electricity in her system again, it’ll start her heart,” he informed the lieutenant.
<mama, ooh, i don’t want to die>
connor separated his hands, hovering them over her for just a second. “i don’t know if you can hear me, but i’m going to shock you now. this may be unpleasant when you wake up-“
“do it, connor! save her life!”
<i sometimes wish i’d never been born at all>
penelope woke with a gasp, looking around. “where the fuck am i?” connor was crouching over her, watching her features. “did i just die?”
“almost. take it slow, detective. i suspect the deviant stopped your heart by disrupting the electrical pattern. i was able to restart it by using built-in defibrillators.”
she watched him for a few seconds, unsure of how to react, before pulling him in for a hug. she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling herself up from the ground and his body into hers as she rested her chin on his shoulder. she didn’t think she could ever be so thankful for an android.
