so, great news! i'm booked into surgery on friday 3rd of May and i'm looking to have a couple of weeks to a month for recovery.

had he, though? times were busy for him, so busy in fact that he's been yelled at by both maya and pearl for not taking the time to reach out to others ( see: them ) for updates on their personal lives. while this wasn't exactly a social call, phoenix was socially awkward enough to not turn it into one - it was as easy as asking about the weather while they were both standing under clear blue skies, feeling the effects of the western winds bringing in a slight chill into the early spring mornings.

the boltund running around both their legs certainly had some thoughts about this being a social meetup anyway.

within the attorney's left hand holds a small case of duplicated evidence while the brown leather bag strapped to his back has various notes for a case he's presenting and arguing in court in the next few days. he's thankful, really, having an extension given due to the severe complexity surrounding it, but knowing that means the prosecution has time to solidify their own findings to spit right back. it was the main reason he contacted ryunosuke in the hopes SOMETHING would crack between the two heads.

it's secluded enough, goldenrod's park on the city's outskirts, enough that finding a table and bench with no prying eyes or ears was found with relative ease, phoenix's own anxieties dwelling slightly. " were you able to find any notes about this case I mentioned about? it's been difficult finding anything public about the Tsunagu or Ējento families. "

collected. as much as char attempts to keep her cool demeanour about this entire conversation, about this situation, phoenix can hear the way her tone changes ever so slightly and the wariness which covers and weighs it down like syrup. he hates it; a pang in his heart from something he was unable to help with regardless of the fact he hadn't known about her situation back then.

granted, it wasn't as if people knew about his upbringing either, and phoenix would like to think others would extend the same empathy as he does - but he had known char back then, and quite frankly, a lot of what she was saying now made a lot more sense to him. like something clicked. he just wishes this wasn't something she had to go through, both in childhood and now to be reminded of it during a trial of all things.

he hates knowing that secrets are kept from him but if that secret was better off buried as to not recall any trauma? it was easy enough to brush that off and carry on ignorant.

" that makes sense. you were always angrily vocal about your full name being spoken out loud - even a few of the guards had mentioned this on the way down, " it's an attempt to make her feel teased but at home, knowing that no matter what he would always treat her the same - that even in this predicament he would never treat her any differently.

regardless of the relevance to the case it wouldn't be wise to think the prosecution wouldn't use this to their advantage. perhaps a potential motive in the back of their books ready to pull out at any moment as a shock factor, one which they have full belief will change the tide back to their side. god, he hates them.

at least one of the saving graces of this case was that klavier would be prosecuting, not one of the paynes or blackquill. after writing that down, he smiles again at char, notepad put to the side. " thank you for telling me. it won't be easy, and I can't promise the prosecution might not throw that out as a motive if discovered the victim was known to the hargreeves or you but... Oh she hates this. Every fiber of her being is screaming at her to stop, to keep the secret, because once he knows he can't not know and things are going to be weird and different and-

Even sent some fancy-pants lawyer down here so this whole thing wouldn't sully the family name or some bullshit, can you believe that? Like I'd ever want to be associated to-"

Char cuts herself off sharply and turns, hands curled around the backrest of the chair as she faces Phoenix again, though her gaze remains fixed firmly at her feet. "Look, I just...it's not relevant to any of this, but if the prosecution lawyer is any good at their job - which is a long-shot anyway, I know - they'll dig it up somehow and bring it up at trial, so you need to know before it becomes an issue. I'm...I'm a Hargreeves."

went to get my ears unblocked today just to discover that the blockage is behind my eardrum so nothing could be done by them and instead have to go to the GP.

however! lucas lore unlocked: apparently my ear canal takes a nosedive down instead of going across or up as the majority of the population has. so that's pretty cool

he thinks for a few moments. thoughts collecting of all the trials he's defended or been a part of in the past decade or so, trying to wrack the memories for any mention of spirit mediums who passed through the system when he wasn't a lawyer ( he swears he remembers kristoph mentioning one or two he'd "defended" during that time ).

" let's see... truth to be told, maya would take up a vast percentage of mediums, being taken to court no less than three times - "

four, if you're counting our fever trip to London; five if you're counting the time godot made her stand trial to testify why she wouldn't be the murderer after dahlia took control of her body.

" iris had been, though she's more spiritualist than medium, likely due to never having the training considering the fey blood, meaning... uh... dahlia should count on that front also. ms. morgan fey I believe is the only one out of that trio who I knew had medium abilities who not only was charged with one murder and an attempted murder, but was found guilty of it as well.

he's surprised it's not more given the amount of time he'd spent in khura'in, expecting more or at least to cross paths with more during his stay there, but in hindsight he couldn't be more thankful for that.
