usually, you like the rain. today is an exception.

the droplets resounding against the roof only anger your already worked-up self, and you merely lean against the railing in exasperation. after a long day of misery, you simply don't have the strength to hold onto the thin thread about to snap in half. unfortunately, the universe isn't kind enough to take pity on you today, because the sunny weather forecast prediction and the gloomy weather in front of you don't seem to match up, and you're left to hold back tears under the bus stand.

the cold wind whips past your bare skin, and you mentally curse yourself for not listening to your gut and wearing a jacket this morning. the last bus left an hour ago, and your cell phone is dead in your pocket, so the only thing that can save you now is quite literally a miracle.

thankfully, that miracle arrives in the form of lee sangyeon.

"did you forget your umbrella? again?" he asks, standing on the sidewalk in front of you with a blue umbrella in hand. "you could've at least called me."

"the weather forecast said it was going to be sunny," you argue pitifully, knowing that it's very well your fault for not listening to your brain and the clouds in the sky. "and my phone died. why are you even here anyway? your class ended two hours ago."

your friend sighs, tugging your arm so you can stand under his umbrella. he probably noticed that the railing wasn't protecting you very well due to your drenched hoodie, but he doesn't scold you about it. instead, he merely watches you step closer as another cold gust of air makes its way between you two.

"i was looking for you. we were supposed to get coffee today."

"if you wanted coffee that badly, you could've gone without me," you try to joke, although the humor doesn't seem to convey properly through your chattering voice.

he rolls his eyes, wrapping an arm around your side to pull you close as he walks you to his car. for warmth, you tell yourself, but the way you clutch onto the side of his jacket suggests anything but.

"just please charge your phone next time, okay? searching for you for two hours is not how i wanted to spend my day."

your breath hitches.

"are you still cold?" he asks, misinterpreting your breath, "i'm sorry, i should've been there for you. i knew something was wrong when you didn't respond in five seconds like you usually do—"

"you searched for me for two hours?" you interrupt, wide-eyed with surprise. "are you actually crazy? why would you do that? you could've been cozy at home instead of spending two hours in the cold!"

you stop him in the middle of the road, hands on his shoulders as you make eye contact with him. the only sounds you hear are the pitter-patter of the rain against the umbrella and your heavy breathing, but the world around you is drowned out in this moment where only you and him exist. the distance between you two is far too intimate for an argument, but as his gaze flickers down to your lips and back up, you don't even remember what point you're supposed to be proving anymore. if anything, you're far too distracted by the cocky grin he now sports on his face as he leans in to whisper into your ear.

"well if i didn't come to save you, who would?"

sunwoo doesn't think too much of it when he sees the firetruck pulled up at his apartment complex. his neighbor's cat, missy, tends to get stuck in the trees a lot, so seeing a lone firefighter every other month or so is a normal occurrence for him.

he does get a little worried though when he sees the smoke floating out of the window. especially since he lives on the fourth floor and that window has suspiciously familiar curtains framing it.

the elevator's preoccupied by the firefighters, so he has to jog up the stairs. by the time he's reached his floor, with a sinking feeling that the universe has it out for him today, he's out of breath and heaving.

he stops breathing though once he sees you, sitting on the bench next to the elevators.

his steps become urgent, and before he knows it, he's kneeling down in front of you. your head is in your hands, so you don't really notice his presence until he places a hand on your shoulder.

"what happened?"

the hands framing your face fall to the side, and you gaze at him with a guilty expression.

"i was trying to make something nice for you. a strawberry cake, since it's your birthday, but it kind of backfired."

you stare at his opened door, watching the firefighters jostling around, but his eyes never leave your frame, scanning incessantly to make sure you're okay.

"you didn't get hurt, right?" he asks, even though he already knows the answer. you suppose it'll help him feel reassured if you say it out loud though, so that's exactly what you do.

"i'm fine. i called the emergency department as soon as i noticed the fire. your kitchen might be worse in shape though..." you trail off, already failing to meet his gaze.

you two sit there in silence for a couple of minutes. you think he's going to hate you, break up with you, chew you out and then kick you out of his life, but instead, he does the opposite.

he brings you in for a hug.

"i'm sorry," you say, voice shaky against the lapels of his coat, "i'm really, really sorry. for fucking up your birthday and your apartment. if you never want to see me again—"

"stop it," he interrupts, clutching onto you a little tighter, "don't even think about saying that. i love you, and yes it'll be an inconvenience having to find another apartment, but you and your safety is a thousand times more important to me."

he listens as your erratic breathing slows, until you're calm and your sniffling stops.

"happy birthday. and i love you too," you murmur. "i love you more than that stupid strawberry cake i was trying to make."

he laughs as he pulls away, resting his palms on your shoulders.

"we can get that cake from the store, baby. and we can light the candles in your apartment instead and passionately make out afterwards. it'll be like nothing went wrong."

"knew i started dating the right guy. we can gaslight ourselves into thinking this never happened, if you ignore the big dent in your bank account from insurance."

he deadpans, standing up.

"just do me a favor, okay? let me be the housewife in the relationship. stay far away from the kitchen, please."

the last thing you expect to happen at 3 in the morning is for your arch nemesis to show up at your apartment door, soaking wet from the downpour outside and sporting a big bruise on his face.

"jay? what are you doing here?" you ask, voice riddled with sleep as you fight back a yawn wanting to escape your mouth.

"sorry, um— i got into a fight and my roommate won't answer the door. i didn't know where else to go."

you sigh, pulling him inside and closing the door so the rain won't soak his figure any longer. even in your half asleep state, you notice how his wet shirt clings to his muscles, making him incredibly attractive in the moment, but you force yourself not to ponder over the thought too long and instead grab a towel from your bathroom so he can dry off.

he gladly accepts the fluffy cloth once you bring it to him, running it through his hair and down his neck. you notice him focus your attention on you and smirk, as if something about you seems amusing enough to bring that expression onto his face.

"nice outfit," he comments, clarifying what caught his attention as you look down and mentally groan at your patterned pajamas.

"you know, i could kick you out at any second. be glad i let you come inside, because you could be out walking in the rain right now."

"okay okay, geez, sorry," he starts, putting his free hand up as a sign of retreat, "why did you let me in anyway? i thought you hated me."

"i do hate you," you clarify, seeing his eyebrow raise, "but i'm not a monster. it's 3am for gods sake, why were you out fighting? are you out of your mind?"

"aww, are you worried about me?" he retorts, brushing past your shoulder and stepping into your living room, "but just so you'll stop nagging me, i wasn't planning on fighting until 3am either. i was just trying to stop this guy from stealing an old lady's purse, but things escalated."

"aren't you the friendly neighborhood spiderman," you grumble, walking toward your bedroom, "and god, you're getting water all over my carpet! go wait in the bathroom, i'll bring you some oversized clothing i have."

when you open the door to the bathroom, you immediately wish you hadn't, because seeing jay shirtless with wet stringy hair and black jeans sitting on the counter was not on your checklist for the day. but you have no choice but to look, and you place the clothes on the counter and tell him that you've placed a blanket on the couch before turning to leave.

"hey, hey wait! where are you going?" he asks, as if you were forgetting something.

"oh right! the first aid kit is under the cabinet to your left," you reply, racking your brain for anything else you missed, "and i think that's it. if you're hungry or something you can raid my pantry or wake me up—"

you're interrupted by jay pulling you by the arm, forcing you to find a place between his legs as he looks down at you. it takes everything in your power not to let your gaze wander down to his uncovered chest.

"stay up with me a little longer? i really like spending time with this nice version of you. let me cherish this before we go back to hating each other tomorrow, yeah?

HI ALLY 😘😘 ok so i'm ngl i have four fics on my blog and i don't like half of them LMAOSIWJFLKWE so i'm gonna do a mix of drabbles and fics if that's okay :3

insignificance — i feel like if anything is a representation of my current writing style, it's this. i wrote this in a haze i swear but i really like my storybuilding with this!! it was also a venture into more suggestive and mature topics (and i would say i did pretty good for my first time)

in each other's arms — this fic blew up for a reason!! it's funny and silly and yes maybe i wrote this on a whim but i think the idea was creative! it was very domestic and comforting too, genuinely if u need a short, funny read this is the right one for u. (also not this foreshadowing my return as an atiny..)

it takes 2 to mango — this was my first really long fic and i literally wrote this on vacation over the span of two months 😭 i usually write fics in a couple of sittings but this one was a little different and i think it paid off! i had a chance to proofread it and i think it's really really cute, something i'd been meaning to write for awhile <3

12:00 am — if there's one thing that's my brand, it's a sunwoo birthday drabble! i still think about this one all the time cause i feel like it's very domestic and representative of a real relationship. plus sunwoo falling asleep is so cutesie ☹️💖

best friend — i don't usually like my angst drabbles but this one hits home, especially since i graduated last year and went through something very similar 😞 this is more of my old writing style but it still reads well enough to make the waterworks flow Idk.. unrequited love </3
